110. Metal-insulator transition and intermediate phases in the kagome lattice Hubbard model

Abstract

Motivated by the recent discovery of metallic kagome lattice materials, AV$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$ (A=K, Rb, Cs), we investigate the ground state of the half-filled kagome lattice Hubbard model by employing the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. We identify a metal-insulator transition around $U \thicksim U_{c1}$ and four distinct phases as a function of $U/t$ on narrower cylinders, including a metallic phase at $U < U_{c1}$, two insulating intermediate phases: a translational symmetry breaking phase at $U_{c1} < U < U_{c2}$ and a quantum spin liquid phase at $U_{c2} < U < U_{c3}$, and the kagome antiferromagnetic phase at $U>U_{c3}$. We confirm that the translational symmetry breaking phase is robust for wider cylinders, while the quantum spin liquid phase is smoothly connected to the kagome antiferromagnetic phase with increasing the system width. Moreover, our numerical observations indicate a continuous metal-insulator transition at $U_{c1}$, whose nature is consistent with Slater's transition scenario. The magnetic phase transition between two insulating intermediate phases at $U_{c2}$ is first order. Abstract

Silicone rubber is widely used in industry, dairy products, medical, defense support, and other fields due to its excellent comprehensive properties, which have become one of the most important research objects of high-performance elastomer. Cationic-[pi] dynamic noncovalent bond has attracted more and more attention from material researchers due to its dynamic reversibility and design flexibility and has been applied to different material systems, giving new characteristics to traditional materials. Cationic-[pi]/covalently crosslinked silicone rubber was prepared by one-step method with glycidol propyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane (DMS-E21) as basic polymer, epoxy indole monomer (IN) as crosslinking structure modifier, Europium ion ([Eu.sup.3+]) as cation donor and triethylenetetramine (TETA) as a crosslinking agent. The influence of the reversibility of [Eu.sup.3+]-[pi] interaction on the static and dynamic mechanical behaviors of silicone rubber was studied. The results show that the elongation at break of cationic-[pi]/covalent hybrid crosslinked silicone rubber increases by more than 60% compared with pure covalent crosslinked silicone rubber when the breaking energy reaches the maximum, while the tensile strength increases by more than 100% and the introduction of [Eu.sup.3+]-[pi] dynamic bond can weaken the Mullins effect and the Payne effect on the high temperature of silicone rubber with obvious creep resistance. It shows an excellent mechanical strengthening effect with the characteristic of strengthening and toughening simultaneously and attractive nonlinear mechanical behavior on elastomers. 125. Complex Phase Diagram of Doped XXZ Ladder: Localization and Pairing

Abstract

How the ground state nature can be dramatically changed by the distinct underlying spin correlation is a central issue of doped Mott insulators. The two-leg XXZ ladder provides a prototypical spin background, which can be tuned from a long-range N\'{e}el order to a short-range ``spin liquid'' via the superexchange anisotropy, giving rise to a complex phase diagram at finite doping. By density matrix renormalization group method, we show that although the charge is always self-localized in the N\'{e}el ordered phase, a second insulating phase emerges, in which the doped holes become paired but remain localized while the transverse spin-spin correlation reduces to short-ranged one to make the N\'{e}el order classical. Only when the N\'{e}el order totally disappears by further reducing anisotropy, does the pairing become truly coherent as characterized by a Luther-Emery state. In sharp contrast, the pairing is totally absent in the in-plane ferromagnetic XXZ regime, where a direct transition from the charge self-localization in the N\'{e}el ordered phase to a Fermi-gas-like state in the spin liquid phase is found. Abstract

Abstract Background Chemokines, a group of small and structurally related proteins, mediate chemotaxis of various cell types via chemokine receptors. In mammals, seven different CXC chemokine receptors denoted as CXCR1 to CXCR7 have been reported. However, the chemokine receptor CXCR5 has not been reported in other vertebrates. Results In the present study, the genomic sequence of CXCR5 was isolated from the grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella. The cDNA sequence of grass carp CXCR5 (gcCXCR5) consists of 1518 bp with a 43 bp 5' untranslated region (UTR) and a 332 bp 3' UTR, with an open reading frame of 1143 bp encoding 381 amino acids which are predicted to have seven transmembrane helices. The characteristic residues (DRYLAIVHA) and conserved cysteine residues are located in the extracellular regions and in the third to seventh transmembrane domains. The deduced amino acid sequence shows 37.6-66.6% identities with CXCR5 of mammals, avian and other fish species. The grass carp gene consists of two exons, with one intervening intron, spaced over 2081 bp of genomic sequence. Phylogenetic analysis clearly demonstrated that the gcCXCR5 is clustered with those in other teleost fish and then in chicken and mammals. Real-time PCR analysis showed that gcCXCR5 was expressed in all tested organs/tissues and its expression level was the highest in trunk kidney, followed by in the spleen. The expression of gcCXCR5 was significantly modulated by immunostimulants such as peptidoglycan (PGN), lipopolysaccharide (LPS), polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid sodium salt (Poly I:C) and phytohaemagglutinin (PHA). Conclusion The cDNA and genomic sequences of CXCR5 have been successfully characterized in a teleost fish, the grass carp. The CXCR5 has in general a constitutive expression in organs/tissues examined, whereas its expression was significantly up-regulated in immune organs and down-regulated in brain, indicating its potential role in immune response and central nervous system.

Abstract

Information processing in the brain depends on specialized organization of neurotransmitter receptors and scaffolding proteins within the postsynaptic density. However, how these molecules are organized in situ remains largely unknown. In this study, template-free classification of oversampled sub-tomograms was used to analyze cryo-electron tomograms of hippocampal synapses. We identified type-A GABA receptors (GABAARs) in inhibitory synapses and determined their in situ structure at 19-Å resolution. These receptors are organized hierarchically: from GABAAR super-complexes with a preferred inter-receptor distance of 11 nm but variable relative angles, through semi-ordered, two-dimensional receptor networks with reduced Voronoi entropy, to mesophasic assembly with a sharp phase boundary. These assemblies likely form via interactions among postsynaptic scaffolding proteins and receptors and align with putative presynaptic vesicle release sites. Such mesophasic self-organization might allow synapses to achieve a 'Goldilocks' state, striking a balance between stability and flexibility and enabling plasticity in information processing.
