101. Connecting M-theory and type IIB parameterizations in Exceptional Field Theory

Abstract: In the exceptional field theory, there are two natural parameterizations for the generalized metric; in terms of bosonic fields in the eleven-dimensional supergravity (M-theory parameterization) and the type IIB supergravity (type IIB parameterization). In order to translate various results known in the M-theory to the type IIB theory or vice versa, an explicit map between the two parameterizations will be useful. In this note, we present such a linear map. Comparing the two parameterizations under the linear map, we reproduce the known T-duality transformation rules for the supergravity fields. We also obtain the T-duality rules for non-geometric $\beta$-/$\gamma$-fields appearing in the type II theory on a torus., Comment: 33 pages; v2: typos corrected, a reference added, to appear in PTEP

Abstract: We report a search for a dark vector gauge boson U' that couples to quarks in the decay chain D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+), D-0 -> K-S(0) eta, eta -> U'gamma, U' -> pi(+)pi- No signal is found and we set a mass-dependent limit on the baryonic fine structure constant of 10(-3)-10(-2) in the U' mass range of 290 to 520 MeV/c(2). This analysis is based on a data sample of 976 fb(-1) collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract: This paper describes the intersection of converging lines of research on the social structural, psychosocial, and physiological factors involved in the production of stress and implications for the field of mental health. Of particular interest are the stress sensitization consequences stemming from exposure to adversity over the life course. Contemporary stress sensitization theory provides important clinical utility in articulating mechanisms through which these multiple levels exert influence on mental health. Stress sensitization models (a) extend understanding of neurobiological and functional contexts within which extreme stressors operate and (b) make clear how these can influence psychologically traumatic outcomes. The value of interventions that are sensitive to current contexts as well as life course profiles of cumulative stress are illustrated through recent treatment innovations.

Abstract: We search for lepton-flavor and lepton-number-violating τ decays into a lepton (l= electron or muon) and two charged mesons ( h , h ′ = π ± or K ± ) using 854 fb − 1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We obtain 90% confidence level upper limits on the τ → l h h ′ branching fractions in the range ( 2.0 – 8.4 ) × 10 − 8 . These results improve upon our previously published upper limits by factors of about 1.8 on average.

Abstract: We report the discovery of Ξc(3055)0, observed by its decay into the final-state ΛD0, and present the first observation and evidence of the decays of Ξc(3055)+ and Ξc(3080)+ into ΛD+. We also perform a combined analysis of the ΛD+ with the Σc++K- and Σc∗++K- decay modes to measure the ratios of branching fractions, masses and widths with improved accuracy. We measure the ratios of branching fractions B(Ξc(3055)+→ΛD+)/B(Ξc(3055)+→Σc++K-)=5.09±1.01±0.76, B(Ξc(3080)+→ΛD+)/B(Ξc(3080)+→Σc++K-)=1.29±0.30±0.15, and B(Ξc(3080)+→Σc∗++K-)/B(Ξc(3080)+→Σc++K-)=1.07±0.27±0.04, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The analysis is performed using a 980 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Abstract: The process gamma gamma -> p (p) over barK(+)K(-) and its intermediate processes are measured for the first time using a 980 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The production of p (p) over barK(+)K(-) and a Lambda(1520)(0) ((Lambda) over bar (1520)(0)) signal in the pK(-) ((p) over barK(+)) invariant mass spectrum are clearly observed. However, no evidence for an exotic baryon near 1540 MeV/c(2), denoted as Theta(1540)(0) ((Theta) over bar (1540)(0)) or Theta(1540)(++) (Theta(1540)(--)), is seen in the pK(-) ((p) over barK(+)) or pK(+) ((p) over barK(-)) invariant mass spectra. Cross sections for gamma gamma -> p (p) over barK(+)K(-), Lambda(1520)(0)(p) over barK(+) + c.c. and the products sigma(gamma gamma -> Theta(1540)(0)(p) over barK(+) + c.c.)B(Theta(1540)(0) -> pK(-)) and sigma(gamma gamma -> Theta(1540)(++)(p) over barK(-) + c.c.)B(Theta(1540)(++) -> pK(+)) are measured. We also determine upper limits on the products of the chi(c0) and chi(c2) two-photon decay widths and their branching fractions to p (p) over barK(+)K(-) at the 90% credibility level.

Abstract: International audience; Crystallographic preferred orientations (CPOs) of olivine within natural peridotites are commonly depicted by pole figures for the [100], [010], and [001] axes, and they can be categorized into five well-known fabric types: A, B, C, D, and E. These fabric types can be related to olivine slip systems: A with (010)[100], B with (010)[001], C with (001)[001], D with {0kl}[100], and E with (001)[100]. In addition, an AG type is commonly found in nature, but its origin is controversial, and could involve several contributing factors such as complex slip systems, non-coaxial strain types, or the effects of melt during plastic flow. In this paper we present all of our olivine fabric database published previously as well as new data mostly from ocean floor, mainly for the convergent margin of the western Pacific region, and we introduce a new index named Fabric-Index Angle (FIA), which is related to the P-wave property of a single olivine crystal. The FIA can be used as an alternative to classifying the CPOs into the six fabric types, and it allows a set of CPOs to be expressed as a single angle in a range between −90° and 180°. The six olivine fabric types have unique values of FIA: 63° for A type, −28° for B type, 158° for C type, 90° for D type, 106° for E type, and 0° for AG type. We divided our olivine database into five tectonic groups: ophiolites, ridge peridotites, trench peridotites, peridotite xenoliths, and peridotites enclosed in high-pressure metamorphic rocks. Our results show that although our database is not yet large enough (except for trench peridotites) to define the characteristics of the five tectonic groups, the natural olivine fabrics vary in their range of FIA: 0° to 150° for the ophiolites, 40° to 80° for the ridge peridotites, −40° to 100° for the trench peridotites, 0° to 100° for the peridotite xenoliths, and −40° to 10° for the peridotites enclosed in high-pressure metamorphic rocks. The trench peridotites show a statistically unimodal distribution of FIA consisting of the high peak equivalent of the A type, but with some FIAs close to the AG and D types. The variations in the olivine fabrics in the trench peridotites could result from variations in deformation within the supra-subduction uppermost mantle, possibly related to evolution of the mantle since the subduction initiation of the Pacific plate.

Abstract: We report the analysis of the three-body e(+)e(-) -> B (B) over bar pi(+/-), B (B) over bar*pi(+/-), and B*(B) over bar* pi(+/-) processes, including the first observations of the Z(b)(+/-)(10610) -> [B (B) over bar* + c.c.](+/-) and Z(b)(+/-)(10650) -> [B*(B) over bar*](+/-) transitions that are found to dominate the corresponding final states. We measure Born cross sections for the three-body production of sigma(e(+)e(-) -> [B (B) over bar* + c.c.](+/-)pi(-/+)) = [17.4 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 1.9(syst)]pb and sigma(e(+)e(-) -> [B*(B) over bar*](+/-)pi(-/+)) = [8.75 +/- 1.15(stat) +/- 1.04(syst)] pb and set a 90% C.L. upper limit of sigma(e(+)e(-) -> [B (B) over bar](+/-)pi(-/+)) < 2.9 pb. The results are based on a 121.4 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at a center-of-mass energy near the Upsilon(10860) peak.

Abstract: We measure the decay Bs0→K0K0 using data collected at the ?(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 121.4 fb-1. We measure a branching fraction B(Bs0→K0K0)=[19.6-5.1+5.8(stat)±1.0(syst)±2.0(NBs0Bs0)]×10-6 with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations. This measurement constitutes the first observation of this decay.

Abstract: We report inclusive and exclusive measurements for chi(c1) and chi(c2) production in B decays. We measure B(B -> chi X-c1) = (3.03 +/- 0.05 (stat) +/- 0.24(syst)) x 10(-3) and B(B -> chi X-c2) = (0.70 +/- 0.06 (stat) +/- 0.10(syst)) x 10(-3). For the first time, chi(c2) production in exclusive B decays in the modes B-0 -> chi(c2) pi K--(+) and B-0 -> chi(c2) pi(-)pi K-+(+) has been observed, along with first evidence for the B-0 -> chi(c2) pi K--(s)0 decay mode. For chi c1 production, we report the first observation in the B+ -> chi(c1) pi(-)pi K-+(+), B-0 -> chi(c1) pi(-)pi K-+(s)0 and B-0 -> chi(c1) pi(-)pi K-+(+) decay modes. Using these decay modes, we observe a difference in the production mechanism of chi(c2) in comparison to chi(c1) in B decays. In addition, we report searches for X(3872) and chi(c1) (2P) in the B+ -> (chi(c1) pi(+)pi(-))K+ decay mode. The reported results use 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the lepton forward-backward asymmetry AFB as a function of the squared four-momentum of the dilepton system, q2, for the electroweak penguin process B→Xsl+l- with a sum of exclusive final states, where l is an electron or a muon and Xs is a hadronic recoil system with an s quark. The results are based on a data sample containing 772×106 BB¯ pairs recorded at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Abstract: We report a measurement of the B-0 -> psi(2S)pi(0) branching fraction based on the full Upsilon(4S) data set of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain B(B-0 -> psi(2S)pi(0)) = (1.17 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.08(syst)) x 10(-5). The result has a significance of 7.2 standard deviations and is the first observation of the decay B-0 -> psi(2S)pi(0).

Abstract: We search for the process B-0 -> pi(-) tau(+)nu(tau) using the full Belle data set of 711 fb(-1), corresponding to 772 x 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs, collected at the gamma (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We reconstruct one B meson in a hadronic decay and search for the B-0 -> pi(-)tau(+)nu(tau) process in the remainder of the event. No significant signal is observed and an upper limit of B(B-0 -> pi(-) tau(+)nu(tau)) < 2.5 x 10(-4) is obtained at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the differential cross section of $\pi^0$ pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions, $\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0$, in $e^+ e^-$ scattering. The cross section is measured for $Q^2$ up to 30 GeV$^2$, where $Q^2$ is the negative of the invariant mass squared of the tagged photon, in the kinematic range 0.5 GeV < W < 2.1 GeV and $|\cos \theta^*|$ < 1.0 for the total energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the $\gamma^* \gamma$ center-of-mass system. The results are based on a data sample of 759 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The transition form factor of the $f_0(980)$ and that of the $f_2(1270)$ with the helicity-0, -1, and -2 components separately are measured for the first time and are compared with theoretical calculations., Comment: 36 pages, 37 figures, 11 tables, Belle Preprint 2015-15, KEK Preprint 2015-24

Abstract: We report new measurements of the total cross sections for e(+)e(-) -> Upsilon(nS)pi(+)pi(-) (n = 1, 2, 3) and e(+)e(-) -> b (b) over bar from a high-luminosity fine scan of the region root s = 10.63-11.05 GeV with the Belle detector. We observe that the Upsilon(nS)pi(+)pi(-) spectra have little or no nonresonant component and extract from them the masses and widths of Upsilon(10860) and Upsilon(11020) and their relative phase. We find M-10860 = (10891.1 +/- 3.2(-1.7)(+0.6)) MeV/c(2) and Gamma(10860) = (53.7(-5.6)(-5.4)(+7.1)(+1.3)) MeV and report first measurements M-11020 = (1098(-2.5)(-2.1)(+6.4)(+9.0)) MeV/c(2), Gamma(11020) = (61(-19)(-20)(+9)(+2)) MeV, and phi(11020) - phi 10860 = (-1.0 +/- 0.4(-0.1)(+1.4)) rad.

Abstract: We measure the decay B_{s}^{0}→K^{0}K[over ¯]^{0} using data collected at the ϒ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^{+}e^{-} collider. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 121.4 fb^{-1}. We measure a branching fraction B(B_{s}^{0}→K^{0}K[over ¯]^{0})=[19.6_{-5.1}^{+5.8}(stat)±1.0(syst)±2.0(N_{B_{s}^{0}B[over ¯]_{s}^{0}})]×10^{-6} with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations. This measurement constitutes the first observation of this decay.

Abstract: Neosporosis and toxoplasmosis are two important infections in young and adult sheep, leading to low production and abortion. This study aimed to determine the frequency of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum in sheep from the eastern region of Sao Paulo State, Brazil. Serum samples (382) were collected from the sheep and assayed for T. gondii through modified agglutination test (MAT) and indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT), and for N. caninum antibodies, through IFAT, with cut-off titers equal to 16 (T. gondii) and 25 (N. caninum). All frozen samples were sent to the Center for Zoonoses Research (NUPEZO), Department of Veterinary Hygiene and Public Health (DHSVP), FMVZ, UNESP, for serological tests. A total of 71/382 (18.6%) samples reacted to T. gondii, especially at titers 16 (28; 39.4%), 64 (15; 21.1%), 256 (21; 29.6%) and 1024 (6; 8.5%) by MAT, and 16 (34; 47.9%), 64 (18; 25.4%), 256 (14; 19.7%) and 1024 (5; 7%) by IFAT. As regards N. caninum, 49/382 (12.8%) samples reacted at titers 25 (17; 34.7%), 50 (11; 22.5%), 100 (11; 22.5%), and ≥200 (10; 20.4%). These animals presented infection but no clinical signs. Six and ten animals had high titers for toxoplasmosis and neosporosis. No significant association was observed between antibodies for both parasites (P = 0.535) according to Fisher's exact test, and no correlation was found between T. gondii (MAT) and N. caninum antibody titers (r = −0.0068; P = 0.895), T. gondii (IFAT) and N. caninum antibody titers (r = −0.0025; P = 0.961). Thus, T. gondii and N. caninum infections were observed in farms located in Sao Paulo State, where sheep play an important economical role for the national and regional business.

Abstract: The cross sections for the reactions e+ e- → φ{symbol} η, φ{symbol} η′, ρη, ρ η′ have been measured using a data sample of 516 fb- 1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. The corresponding values of the cross sections are: 1.4 ± 0.4 ± 0.1 fb (φ{symbol} η), 5.3 ± 1.1 ± 0.4 fb (φ{symbol} η′), 3.1 ± 0.5 ± 0.1 fb (ρ η) and 3.3 ± 0.6 ± 0.2 fb (ρ η′). The energy dependence of the cross sections is presented using Belle measurements together with those of CLEO and BaBar. © 2009 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: We search for lepton-flavor-violating τ decays into a lepton (electron or muon) and an f0 (980) meson using 671 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. No events are observed and we set the following 90% C.L. upper limits on the branching fraction products: B (τ- → e- f0 (980)) × B (f0 (980) → π+ π-) < 3.2 × 10- 8 and B (τ- → μ- f0 (980)) × B (f0 (980) → π+ π-) < 3.4 × 10- 8. Abstract: We report results from a study of the charmed double strange baryons Ωc 0 and Ωc * 0 at Belle. The Ωc 0 is reconstructed using the Ωc 0 → Ω- π+ decay mode, and its mass is measured to be (2693.6 ± 0.3-1.5 +1.8) MeV / c2. The Ωc * 0 baryon is reconstructed in the Ωc 0 γ mode. The mass difference MΩc* 0 - MΩc0 is measured to be (70.7 ± 0.9-0.9 +0.1) MeV / c2. The analysis is performed using 673 fb-1 of data on and near the Υ{hooked} (4 S) collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: HyHEL-8, HyHEL-10, and HyHEL-26 (HH8, HH10, and HH26, respectively) are murine monoclonal IgG(1) antibodies which share over 90% variable-region amino acid sequence identity and recognize identical structurally characterized epitopes on hen egg white lysozyme (HEL). Previous immunochemical and surface plasmon resonance-based studies have shown that these antibodies differ widely in their tolerance of mutations in the epitope. While HH8 is the most cross-reactive, HH26 is rigidified by a more extensive network of intramolecular salt links and is highly specific, with both association and dissociation rates strongly affected by epitope mutations. HH10 is of intermediate specificity, and epitope mutations produce changes primarily in the dissociation rate. Calorimetric characterization of the association energetics of these three antibodies with the native antigen HEL and with Japanese quail egg white lysozyme (JQL), a naturally occurring avian variant, shows that the energetics of interaction correlate with cross-reactivity and specificity. These results suggest that the greater cross-reactivity of HH8 may be mediated by a combination of conformational flexibility and less specific intermolecular interactions. Thermodynamic calculations suggest that upon association HH8 incurs the largest configurational entropic penalty and also the smallest loss of enthalpic driving force with variant antigen. Much smaller structural perturbations are expected in the formation of the less flexible HH26 complex, and the large loss of enthalpic driving force observed with variant antigen reflects its specificity. The observed thermodynamic parameters correlate well with the observed functional behavior of the antibodies and illustrate fundamental differences in thermodynamic characteristics between cross-reactive and specific molecular recognition.

Abstract: We measure the CP-violating asymmetries in decays to the D0 → K+ K- and D0 → π+ π- CP eigenstates using 540 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at or near the Υ{hooked} (4 S) resonance. Cabibbo-favored D0 → K- π+ decays are used to correct for systematic detector effects. The results, ACP K K = (- 0.43 ± 0.30 ± 0.11) % and ACP π π = (+ 0.43 ± 0.52 ± 0.12) %, are consistent with no CP violation. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We present results of a detailed study of the three-body over(B, )0 → Σc (2455)0 over(p, ) π+ decay. A significant enhancement of signal events is observed in the over(p, ) π+ invariant mass distribution near 1.5 GeV / c2 that is consistent with the presence of an intermediate baryonic resonance over(N, )0, where over(N, )0 is the over(N, ) (1440)0 P11 or over(N, ) (1535)0 S11 state, or an admixture of the two states. We measure the product B (over(B, )0 → Σc (2455)0 over(N, )0) × B (over(N, )0 → over(p, ) π+) = (0.80 ± 0.15 (stat .) ± 0.14 (syst .) ± 0.21) × 10-4, where the last error is due to the uncertainty in B (Λc + → p K- π+). The significance of the signal is 6.1 standard deviations. This analysis is based on a data sample of 357 fb-1, accumulated at the Υ{hooked} (4 S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: The deactivation of protein biocatalysts even at relatively low temperatures is one of the principal drawbacks to their use. To aid in the development of novel biocatalysts, we have derived an equation for both time- and temperature-dependent activity of the biocatalyst based on known concepts such as transition state theory and the Lumry-Eyring model. We then derived an analytical solution for the total turnover number (ttn), under isothermal operation, as a function of the catalytic constant kcat, the unfolding equilibrium constant K, and the intrinsic first-order deactivation rate constant(s) k(d,i). Employing an immobilized glucose isomerase biocatalyst in a CSTR and utilizing a linear temperature ramp beyond the Tm of the enzyme, we demonstrate an accelerated method for extracting the thermodynamic and kinetic constants describing the biocatalyst system. In addition, we demonstrate that the predicted biocatalyst behavior at different temperatures and reaction times is consistent with the experimental observations.

Abstract: Recent commentary has advocated for epidemiological investigation as a foundational science for understanding disparities in the delivery of mental health care and for the development of early trauma-focused interventions. Few acute care investigations have examined the diversity of ethnic/racial heritages or compared variations in early posttraumatic distress in representative samples of injured trauma survivors. Hospitalized injury survivors at two United States level I trauma centers were randomly approached in order to document linguistic and ethnic/racial diversity. Approximately 12% of patients approached were non-English speaking with 16 languages represented. English speaking, inpatients were screened for posttraumatic stress disorder, peritraumatic dissociative, and depressive symptoms. For 269 English speaking study participants, ethnic/racial group status was clearly categorized into one group for 72%, two groups for 25%, and three groups for 3% of participants. Regression analyses that adjusted for relevant clinical and demographic characteristics revealed that relative to whites, patients from American Indian, African American, Hispanic, and Asian heritages demonstrated significant elevations in one or more posttraumatic symptom clusters. A remarkable diversity of heritages was identified, and posttraumatic distress was elevated in ethnic/racial minority patients. Policy-relevant clinical investigations that combine evidence-based treatments, bilingual/bicultural care-management strategies, and support for trauma center organizational capacity building may be required in order to enhance the quality of mental health care for diverse injured trauma survivors.

Abstract: A subchronic oral toxicity study of l-aspartic acid (l-Asp) was conducted with groups of 10 male and 10 female Fischer 344 rats fed a powder diet containing 0%, 0.05%, 1.25%, 2.5% and 5.0% concentrations for 90 days. Serum biochemistry showed treatment-related decreases of blood urea nitrogen, creatinine and uric acid levels in both sexes. In addition, incidences of urinary ketone and protein were significantly increased in treated both sexes, while relative kidney weight was significantly increased in the 5.0% male rat, and regenerative renal tubules with tubular dilation were histopathologically observed in male rats of the 2.5% or greater groups. The observed renal injury was confirmed not to be due to accumulation of alpha2u-globulin. Acinar cell hypertrophy of salivary glands was histopathologically evident in male and female rats of the 2.5% or greater groups. The present results indicate that l-Asp causes toxic effects on kidneys and possibly salivary glands at high dose levels in male and female Fischer 344 rats. Such toxic effects were observed only in animals given 2.5% and/or higher doses of l-Asp. In conclusion, the no-observed-adverse-effect-level (NOAEL) for l-Asp is 1.25% (696.6 mg/kg body weight/day for males and 715.2 mg/kg body weight/day for females) under the present experimental conditions.

Abstract: We report a precise measurement of the masses of the $\Xi_c(2645)$ and $\Xi_c(2815)$ baryons using a data sample of 414 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle collaboration at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The states $\Xi_c(2645)^{0,+}$ are observed in the $\Xi_c^{+,0}\pi^{-,+}$ decay modes, while the $\Xi_c(2815)^{0,+}$ are reconstructed in the $\Xi_c(2645)^{+,0}\pi^{-,+}$ decay modes. The following mass splittings are determined: $m_{\Xi_c(2645)^+} - m_{\Xi_c(2645)^0} = (-0.1 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.6 {(\rm syst})) {\rm MeV}/{\rm c}^2$ and $m_{\Xi_c(2815)^+} - m_{\Xi_c(2815)^0} = (-3.4 \pm 1.9 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.9 {(\rm syst})) {\rm MeV}/{\rm c}^2$ with a much better precision than the current world averages. We also observe a new decay mode, $\Xi_c(2980)^{0,+} \to \Xi_c(2645)^{+,0}\pi^{-,+}$.

Abstract: We have searched for neutrinoless τ lepton decays into l and V0, where l stands for an electron or muon, and V0 for a vector meson (φ{symbol}, ω, K* 0, over(K, )* 0 or ρ0), using 543 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. No excess of signal events over the expected background has been observed, and we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (5.9 - 18) × 10-8 at the 90% confidence level. These upper limits are significantly more restrictive than our previous results for the lφ{symbol}, l K* 0, l over(K, )* 0 and l ρ0 modes. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: We have measured the cross section for π+π− production in two-photon collisions using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 85.9 fb−1 collected with the Belle detector. The f0(980) resonance is observed as a peak in the energy spectrum of the cross section. We also report preliminary results for γγ → π0π0 with two-photon center-of-mass energies ranging from 0.6 to 4.0 GeV, based on a 95 fb−1 data sample. We find at least four resonant structures including a peak from f0(980). In addition, there is evidence for χc0 production. We also make a preliminary discussion of the angular dependence and cross section ratio of γγ → π+π− and γγ → π0π0.

Abstract: We report a high-statistics measurement of the relative branching fraction Br(D0 --> pi+pi-pi0)/Br(D0 --> K-pi+pi0). A 357 inverse fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider was used for the analysis. The relative branching fraction Br(D0 --> pi+pi-pi0)/Br(D0 --> K-pi+pi0) is determined with an accuracy comparable to the latest world average value.

Abstract: We study the characteristics of the low mass p (p) over bar enhancements near threshold in the three-body decays B+ -> p (p) over barK(+) and B+ -> p (p) over bar pi(+). We observe that the proton polar angle distributions in the p (p) over bar helicity frame in the two decays have the opposite polarity, and measure the forward-backward asymmetries as a function of the p mass for the p (p) over barK(+) mode. We also search for the intermediate two-body decays, B+ -> (p) over bar Delta(++) and B+ -> p (Delta) over bar (0), and set upper limits on their branching fractions. These results are obtained from a 414 fb(-1) data sample that contains 449 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected near the Gamma(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. Abstract: KS 0 KS 0 production in two-photon collisions has been studied using a 397.6 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider. For the first time the cross sections are measured in the two-photon center-of-mass energy range between 2.4 GeV and 4.0 GeV and angular range | cos θ* | < 0.6. Combining the results with measurements of γ γ → K+ K- from Belle, we observe that the cross section ratio σ (KS 0 KS 0) / σ (K+ K-) decreases from ∼0.13 to ∼0.01 with increasing energy. Signals for the χc 0 and χc 2 charmonium states are also observed. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We have searched for lepton-flavor-violating $\tau$ decays with a pseudoscalar meson ($\eta$, $\eta'$ {and} $\pi^0$) using a data sample of 401 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. No evidence for these decays is found and we set the following upper limits on the branching fractions: ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\eta) < 9.2\times 10^{-8}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\eta) < 6.5\times 10^{-8}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\eta') < 1.6\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\eta') < 1.3\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\pi^0) < 8.0\times 10^{-8}$ and ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\pi^0) < 1.2\times 10^{-7}$ at the 90% confidence level. These results improve our previously published upper limits by factors from 2.3 to 6.3.

Abstract: A magnetoplated wire (MPW) is a copper wire whose circumference is plated with a magnetic thin film. The effects of using an MPW are a decrease in the proximity effect, an increase in inductance, and generation of more flux than when copper wire is used. The ratio of the linearity range Lo to the outer coil diameter D of the eddy current displacement sensor is extended by using MPW for the coil. However, the relationship between the Fe film thickness of MPWs and the linearity range characteristic has not been clarified. We measured the output voltage characteristics of MPW coils with Fe film thicknesses of 0.7 μm, 1 μm, and 1.1 μm, and calculated Lo/D ratios. As a result, we found that the Lo/D ratio of an MPW coil with a 1-μm-thick Fe film had a maximum value of 0.66.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the branching fraction of B+ -> tau(+) nu(tau) decays using a data sample of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs, collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We reconstruct the accompanying B meson in a semileptonic decay and detect the recoiling B candidate in the decay channel B+ -> tau(+) nu(tau). We obtain a branching fraction of B(B+ -> tau(+) nu(tau)) = [1.25 +/- 0.28(stat.) +/- 0.27(syst.)] x 10-(4). This result is in good agreement with previous measurements and the expectation from the calculation based on the Standard Model.
