Parents raising children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) experience greater family, health, and psychosocial dysfunction due to the compounding nature of children's NDD and disease manifestations. Furthermore, the experiences of fathers and mothers are significantly different, and there is a paucity of consolidated evidence on fathers' experiences. A systematic review and meta-synthesis were conducted using Sandelowski and Barroso's approach. Six electronic databases were searched for relevant articles published between November 2011 and November 2021. Thirty-eight studies were included in this review. An overarching theme "Out of the Shadows, and Into the Sunshine" emerged along with four main themes: (a) "The Illness Is All the Time": An Overwhelming Experience, (b) "Navigating health care and Education Systems," (c) "Strong Alone, Stronger Together," and (d) "My Child Is Different Not Less: A Different Perspective." This meta-synthesis analyzed the facilitators and barriers married fathers of children with NDD faced and suggested a paradigm shift where these fathers are becoming more actively involved in the care of their children. Effective communication skills in nursing are necessary for high-quality nursing care, but given the decline in nursing students' attitudes and their low self-confidence in effective communication with patients, a participatory and experiential training method is needed. Therefore, a virtual counseling application was developed using artificial intelligence and a three-dimensional avatar to facilitate learning of communication skills. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this theory-based virtual intervention on nursing students' learning attitudes, communication self-efficacy, and clinical performance. A longitudinal quasi-experimental study was conducted. Ninety-three undergraduate nursing students received virtual patient trainings with four clinical scenarios over 2 years. Data were analyzed using McNemar test and analysis of variance. Virtual patient training improved students' learning attitudes toward communication skills for scenarios involving the pregnant woman (20.4%, P = .03) and depressed patient (17.1%, P = .01) and enhanced perceived self-efficacy for scenarios involving the pregnant woman (22.6%, P = .002) and stressed nursing student (18.3%, P = .002). Students received lower clinical communication scores for pediatric, obstetric, and medical practicums compared with a previous cohort who received no training. Background: Men's involvement in antenatal care is critical for the family's overall well-being, yet remains low in many low-income and middle-income countries. The goal of this study was to consolidate and synthesize currently available literature on men's experiences of antenatal care services in low-income and middle-income countries., Methods: PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, and Scopus were searched through December 2020. Qualitative studies were included exploring the antenatal care experiences of men whose pregnant partners utilized antenatal care services, regardless of ethnicity, race, and education levels. Studies examining men's participation in antenatal care that specifically focused on certain conditions such as the human immunodeficiency virus, known pregnancy complications, as well as contraception/fertility treatment, were excluded. Quality appraisal of the included studies was conducted using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program checklist, and Sandelowski and Barroso's two-step approach was used to meta-summarize and meta-synthesize the extracted data., Results: Four themes were derived from the 27 studies included: (a) Factors enabling men's participation in antenatal care; (b) Barriers affecting men's participation in antenatal care; (c) Men's self-perceived care roles; and (d) Recommendations to improve men's involvement., Conclusions: Men's involvement in antenatal care depended on community perceptions, traditional gender roles, and work commitments. Although men often regarded antenatal care services as exclusive to women, some expressed their willingness to participate. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to poor sexual health outcomes such as sexually transmitted diseases, sexually transmitted infections, human immunodeficiency virus, and unintended pregnancy. While school-based sexual health education (SBSHE) can address adolescents' needs, they are often insufficient. Hence, their perception of SBSHE should be explored to improve current education. This review aims to consolidate the available evidence on perceptions, experiences, and needs of adolescents about SBSHE. Six electronic databases were searched from their inception date till June 2022. The included studies were assessed using the method of the Critical Appraisal Skills Program tool, and findings were meta-synthesized using Sandelowski and Barroso (2007). This review was registered via the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. Overall, 51 studies were included, and three themes were identified: (1) teachings of SBSHE and its impact, (2) adolescents' preferred approach to SBSHE, and (3) importance of engaging and safe SBSHE. In conclusion, adolescents had mixed reactions toward SBSHE. They expressed the need for inclusivity (gender identity and racial, ethnic, and cultural groups). Having a "safe space," well-trained educators, and interactive approaches were important and hence should also be considered. More qualitative studies from different geographical regions are needed. Diverse topics (e.g., mutual consent, sexual abuse, and violence) should also be discussed. The use of multiple educators (e.g., schoolteachers, specialist teachers, and peers) should also be deliberated in future SBSHE research. Background: Breastfeeding has multiple positive impacts on infants, mothers, and the economy., Problem: However, the global breastfeeding rates fall short of the World Health Organization's recommendations. Telelactation interventions have been shown to improve breastfeeding outcomes, yet this field has not been systematically reviewed., Aim: This mixed-studies systematic review aims to consolidate and synthesize findings on the available evidence of telelactation interventions on breastfeeding outcomes, uptake of these interventions, and provide recommendations for future lactation interventions., Methods: A literature search was conducted in six electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane, and Scopus) and one gray literature (Mednar) from their inception date to October 2021. Thirteen articles met the selection criteria, and thematic synthesis was conducted to consolidate and synthesize findings from the included studies., Findings: Three themes and nine subthemes were identified: (1) Attributes and receptivity of telelactation interventions, (2) Benefits associated with telelactation interventions, and (3) Recommendations and improvement opportunities., Discussion: Telelactation interventions were well-received by stakeholders (mothers, fathers, and healthcare providers), and receptivity was found to be influenced by primiparity and the perceived usefulness of telelactation consultations (extrinsic motivation). These interventions showed promising improvement in the provider-user relationship and breastfeeding outcomes. Future studies should make telelactation user-friendly, secure their telelactation platforms, increase communication options and built-in functions, and improve care continuity., Conclusion: This review highlighted the advantages, recommendations, and future considerations for telelactation interventions. Background: Sleep apnea (SA) is a prevalent chronic disease with significant morbidity that negatively impacts a patient's perception of health and quality of life (QoL)., Objective: This review synthesized qualitative evidence on the experiences of patients living with SA to understand the disease's impacts on QoL., Methods: We performed a systematic review of qualitative studies and searched eight electronic databases from inception dates to 22 September 2020. We analyzed the data using Sandelowski's proposed method of meta-synthesis, and applied Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) and GRADE-Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative research (GRADE-CERQual) criteria to appraise the studies' qualities, and synthesized findings, respectively., Results: Fourteen qualitative studies met the selection criteria. Four themes and 16 subthemes emerged: (1) sleep-related manifestations (n = 14) with four subthemes (sleep disruptors; sleepiness & napping; fatigue & low energy level; decreased cognition), (2) reduced psychological well-being and functioning (n = 14) with seven subthemes (anxiety & feeling vulnerable; hostility; sadness, sense of hopelessness & depression; embarrassment, shame & diminished self-concept; guilt & self-blame; maladaptive coping; self-stigma, (3) impaired physical and role functioning (n = 13) with three subthemes (reduced activities & routine disruption; reduced sexual activities & desire; reduced job performance & participation), (4) impaired social and relational functioning (n = 13) with two subthemes (strained interpersonal relationships; social isolation & loneliness)., Conclusions: SA patients experienced sleep-disrupting symptoms and daytime sleepiness/fatigue which adversely impacted physical, psycho-cognitive, and social aspects of their lives in complex interactive ways. Background: Infertile individuals desire support, as they are highly vulnerable to multi-dimensional distress. However, support from family, friends and professionals has been found to be inadequate for their needs. Online peer support communities are avenues where infertile individuals come together virtually to share experiences and provide peer support. Though they are known to fulfil the major need of understanding and sharing experiences, little is known about their actual role in supporting individuals struggling with infertility., Objective: To systematically consolidate and explore the role of online peer support communities for infertile individuals., Design: This is a systematic mixed-studies review., Methods: Eight published and unpublished databases were screened for English studies from inception to October 2022: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Scopus and ProQuest. Forty-nine studies were included, and quality was appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Data-based convergent qualitative (narrative and thematic) synthesis was conducted., Results: An overarching theme titled: Online peer support, a 'double-edged sword' and four themes were identified: 1) Receiving varied types of support with mutual benefits; 2) convenient and "safe haven" with diverse options for struggling couples; 3) herd mentality and negative collective emotions; and 4) credibility, confidentiality, and misinformation. The online communities were mainly utilised by couples in their late 20s to early 30s and the users were predominantly females. Online communities were mostly on forums and popular social media sites, public and unmoderated. Findings revealed that there were two-way benefits for both providers and receivers of peer support. Online communities were also found to be convenient and "safe haven" with diverse options for struggling couples. Conversely for some couples, online communities led to negative collective emotions and feelings of "unrelatedness" despite being among "similar others". Lastly, some couples raised concerns around the credibility, confidentiality, and misinformation from the online communities., Conclusions: Whilst online communities are crucial in the individuals' journey through infertility, they can act as a 'double-edged' sword if not managed by professionals. Background: Many adults suffer from depression and peer support has been shown to reduce depressive symptoms., Aim: To examine the effectiveness of peer support interventions for adults with depressive symptoms., Methods: Five electronic databases were searched until February 2021. A random-effect meta-analysis was conducted. The I statistics and Cochran's 2 statistics and Cochran's Q chi-squared test assessed heterogeneity. Quality appraisal was conducted by the Cochrane risk of bias tool and the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach at the study and outcome level, respectively., Results: Seventeen studies conducted in most Western countries and on the maternal population were included. Three types of peer support interventions (peer-delivered psychotherapy, individualized peer mentoring, and peer support group discussions) were identified. Significant effects of peer support interventions were found when compared to standard care. However, professional-led psychotherapy and exercise programs showed more effectiveness compared to peer support group discussions., Conclusions: Future trials could be improved by engaging trained healthy peers (peers with and without prior history of depression) to deliver interventions, encouraging online methods of communication between participants and peers, and facilitating the building of deeper connections between participants and peers. Considering the low-quality rating by the GRADE approach, future research is needed to corroborate current findings.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women were identified as a high-risk and vulnerable group. To reduce risk of transmission, maternity healthcare services were modified to limit exposure but maintain services for pregnant women. However, the change in hospital practice may have compromised quality maternal care standards. Therefore, this review aims to explore parental experiences and views with maternity care received from healthcare institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: A mixed studies systematic review was conducted. Six electronic databases (Medline, CINAHL, Embase, PsycInfo, Web of Science, and Maternity and Infant Care) were searched for qualitative, observational, and mixed method studies from the year 2019 to February 2022. Study quality was appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Quantitative findings were converted to narrative findings. Data was synthesised thematically using a convergent synthesis design., Results: Fifty-eight articles were included. Four themes were generated: (1) Distress associated with COVID-19 regulations (perception of hospital restrictions, confusion with ever changing policies), (2) adaptability with maternity services (prenatal: changes in birth plans, prenatal: altered antenatal appointments, education, and care, intrapartum: medicalization of birth, postpartum: varied views on care received and Breastfeeding woes, postpartum: skin-to-skin contact and mother infant bonding) (3) importance of support persons, and (4) future direction for maternity services., Conclusions: Parental experiences highlighted how maternity care during the COVID-19 pandemic did not adhere to WHO standards of quality maternity care. Background: Even when maternity care facilities are available, some women will choose to give birth unassisted by a professional (freebirth). This became more apparent during the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), as women were increasingly concerned they would contract the virus in health care facilities. Several studies have identified the factors that influence women to seek alternative places of birth to hospitals, but research focusing specifically on freebirth is limited., Methods: Eight databases were searched from their respective inception dates to April 2022 for studies related to freebirth. Data from the studies were charted and a thematic analysis was subsequently conducted., Results: Four themes were identified based on findings from the 25 included studies: (1) Geographical and socio-demographic determinants influencing freebirth, (2) Reasons for choosing freebirth, (3) Factors hindering freebirth, and (4) Preparation for and varied experiences of freebirth., Discussion: More women chose to give birth unassisted in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) compared with high-income countries (HICs). Overall, motivation for freebirth included previous negative birth experiences with health care professionals, a desire to adhere to their birth-related beliefs, and fear of contracting the COVID-19 virus. Included studies reported that study participants were often met with negative responses when they revealed that they were planning to freebirth. Most women in the included studies had positive freebirth experiences. Oxytocin (OT) plays a pivotal role in early parent-child relationship formation and bonding that is critical for the social, cognitive, and emotional development of the child. Therefore, this systematic review aims to consolidate all available evidence regarding the associations of parental OT concentration levels with parenting behavior and bonding within the past 20 years. A systematic search was conducted in five databases from 2002 to May 2022, and 33 studies were finalized and included. Due to the heterogeneity of the data, findings were presented narratively based on the type of OT and parenting outcomes. Current evidence strongly suggests that parental OT levels are positively related to parental touch and parental gaze and affect synchrony and observer-coded parent-infant bonding. No gender difference in OT levels was observed between fathers and mothers, but OT strengthens affectionate parenting in mothers and stimulatory parenting in fathers. Child OT levels were also positively associated with parental OT levels. Background: Previous studies have investigated the various effects of parenting on infant developmental outcomes. In particular, parental stress and social support have been found to significantly affect the growth of the newborn. Although many parents today use mobile apps to obtain more support in parenting and perinatal care, few studies have examined how these apps could affect infant development., Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Supportive Parenting App (SPA) in improving infant developmental outcomes during the perinatal period., Methods: This study adopted a 2-group parallel prospective longitudinal design and recruited 200 infants and their parents (N=400 mothers and fathers). The parents were recruited at 24 weeks of gestation for a randomized controlled trial conducted from February 2020 to July 2022. They were randomly allocated to either the intervention or control group. The infant outcome measures included cognition, language, motor skills, and social-emotional development. Data were collected from the infants when they were aged 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 months. Linear and modified Poisson regressions were used to analyze the data to examine between- and within-group changes., Results: At 9 and 12 months post partum, the infants in the intervention group were found to have better communication and language skills than those in the control group. An analysis of motor development revealed that a larger proportion of the infants in the control group fell under the at-risk category, where they scored approximately 2 SDs below the normative scores. The control group infants scored higher on the problem solving domain at 6 months post partum. However, at 12 months postpartum, the infants in the intervention group performed better on cognitive tasks than those in the control group. Despite not being statistically significant, the intervention group infants were found to have consistently scored better on the social components of the questionnaires than the control group infants., Conclusions: Overall, the infants whose parents had received the SPA intervention tended to fare better in most developmental outcome measures than those whose parents had received standard care only. The findings of this study suggest that the SPA intervention exerted positive effects on the communication, cognition, motor, and socioemotional development of the infants. Objectives: To consolidate the available evidence around ethnic minority women's experiences and needs when accessing maternity care., Methods: A qualitative systematic review and meta-aggregation of qualitative data were conducted. Nine electronic databases were searched for qualitative or mixed-methods studies from the inception of each database until January 2022. Using the Nested-Knowledge software, meta-aggregation was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) data synthesis approach to identify all potential intersections between different themes. Methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the JBI Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument (JBI-QARI) and the mixed-methods appraisal tool (MMAT) checklists for qualitative and mixed-methods studies, respectively., Results: Twenty-two studies (nineteen qualitative and three mixed-methods) were included. All studies were of good methodological quality. An overarching theme 'the struggles and fears of ethnic minority women' was identified. The negative experiences with maternity care were attributed to barriers including ineffective communication, cultural and religious insensitivity, inattentiveness and disregard for women's needs, and isolation-related impact due to the COVID pandemic., Conclusions: Overall, our review highlighted several significant gaps between the care provided and the expected care among ethnic minority women accessing maternity care services. This mismatch between their expectations and care resulted in negative experiences, as the women reported being discriminated against and disrespected. Background: The transition experience of newly graduated registered nurses is highly stressful and associated with high attrition rates., Objectives and Design: This qualitative systematic review aims to consolidate the available evidence on the experiences of newly graduated registered nurses' role transition from nursing students to registered nurses., Data Sources: English language research published between 2010 and 2022 was searched using PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Embase, PsycInfo and ProQuest Dissertations and Thesis databases., Review Methods: Data were extracted using a data extraction form and appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool for published studies or the Authority, Accuracy, Coverage, Objectivity, Date, Significance checklist for unpublished studies or grey literature, respectively., Results: The review included 25 studies and the meta-synthesis identified four themes: (a) Knowledge deficit, (b) Overwhelming clinical practise, (c) Importance of workplace support, and (d) Meaning of "being a nurse"., Conclusions: Newly graduated registered nurses experienced facing knowledge deficits in the clinical setting and felt overwhelmed with work, especially for newly graduated registered nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic. Support from colleagues was invaluable, and they wished for better support through standardised transition programs. Despite nursing being mentally and physically exhausting, many newly graduated registered nurses regarded their profession satisfying and meaningful, however some eventually resigned. Background: Hospital at Home (HaH) programs have been shown to improve clinical outcomes, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. However, how Asian patients experience HaH remained underexplored., Objective: To explore the perceptions and experiences of patients and caregivers admitted to a hospital-at-home program in Singapore., Design: Descriptive qualitative study design., Participants: Purposive sampling was used to conduct 36 interviews with 13 patients, nine Legally Acceptable Representatives (LARs), and 14 caregivers until data saturation was achieved., Interventions: NUHS@Home is a HaH program providing care through a multi-disciplinary team, enabled by remote vital signs monitoring through a tablet and wireless blood pressure and oxygen meters., Approach: This study used in-depth semi-structured individual interviews. Interviews were transcribed and thematically analyzed using Braun and Clark's six-step inductive approach., Key Results: The overarching theme identified was "Enablers, difficulties, and improvements to the HaH experiences" which was supported by three key themes: (1) Perceived better care at home, (2) Importance of social support, and (3) Organizational structures required to support HaH. Participants described overall HaH experiences around factors contributing to their impeding engagement, overall satisfaction, and quality of care., Conclusions: Although HaH is unfamiliar to the Singapore population, most of the participants in this study had an overall positive experience. The key challenges found in this paper were the stress and inconvenience caused to caregivers. The enablers for positive HaH experiences were (1) consideration of patient's family members as key participants in the patients' therapeutic alliance; (2) the HaH care team must be accessible, approachable, and reassuring, and communicate frequently and timely with patients and their families; and (3) financing strategies to ensure HaH out-of-pockets costs remain affordable which are critical to keeping HaH as an option for patients and families., (© 2022. Background: Documentation of the voices of nurses provided valuable insight and a greater understanding of the nursing experience in Singapore., Aim: To record nurses' experiences of journey of nursing profession in the acute care setting in Singapore from the early days of formalisation of nursing education to today's practice as a profession with various specialisation and career tracks., Method: An oral history research approach was adopted, with purposive and snowball sampling to recruit nurses (both current and retired) who had trained in Singapore from 1956 which marked the beginning of the founding of the School of Nursing to current. Interviews were conducted with an interview guide. Thematic analysis was utilised to analyse the audio-recorded data., Results: The 54 participants with a range of 10-54 years of nursing experience were interviewed and they completed their nursing training between 1952 and 2006. Four themes were generated: essence of nursing, inevitable changes across nursing profession, resilience and future outlook in nursing., Conclusions: Understanding the experiences of these nurses generated an in-depth understanding of the personal, social and historical events that were at play in fostering today's nursing practice. With the evolution of the roles in nursing, compassion in current practice needs to be re-evaluated. Background: Adjusting to new or additional parenting responsibilities increases stress and affects parental well-being. Existing research has highlighted both parents' desire to receive more support. It has also been found that receiving sufficient social support enhances parenting outcomes. With the increasing popularity of mobile health apps, a Supportive Parenting App (SPA) intervention was developed to fulfill the support needs of parents during the perinatal period., Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the SPA on parental outcomes during the perinatal period., Methods: A 2-group pretest and repeated posttest randomized controlled trial was conducted wherein 200 couples (N=400 mothers and fathers) were recruited from 2 public health care institutions in Singapore. Parents were randomly assigned to intervention (100/200, 50%) or control (100/200, 50%) groups. The SPA intervention consisted of a mobile app-based psychoeducation and peer support program to support parents from pregnancy to 6 months post partum. The outcome measures included postnatal depression, anxiety, parental bonding, parental self-efficacy, perceived social support, and parenting satisfaction. Data were collected at baseline (at >24 weeks of gestation-age of viability in Singapore) and at the first, second, fourth, sixth, ninth, and 12th month post partum. Linear mixed models were used to compare parental outcomes between the groups, and a linear mixed model for repeated measures was used to examine within-group changes., Results: Parents in the intervention group mostly showed better outcomes compared with those in the control group. Parents in the intervention group had higher perceived social support than those in the control group at the first (effect size=1.59, 95% CI 0.38-2.80; Cohen standardized effect size=1.31; P=.01), second (effect size=1.98, 95% CI 1.09-2.88; Cohen standardized effect size=2.21; P=.003), and fourth (effect size=2.57, 95% CI 1.62-3.51; Cohen standardized effect size=2.72; P=.048) months post partum. However, parents in the intervention group showed significantly poorer parental bonding (effect size=1.67, 95% CI 0.24-3.11; Cohen standardized effect size=1.16; P=.02). The other parental outcomes did not differ significantly between groups. The scores of mothers and fathers also differed significantly for all outcomes except parental self-efficacy., Conclusions: Parents in the intervention group generally fared better, especially regarding perceived social support. However, the lack of statistical significance in most outcomes showed the limited effectiveness of the SPA intervention, which may be because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Parental differences in outcome scores suggest that mothers and fathers have different support needs; therefore, interventions should be tailored accordingly. Further improvements and evaluations are needed to examine the effectiveness of the SPA intervention in enhancing parental outcomes. Objectives: The use of Standardized Patients (SPs) as a supplement to traditional clinical experience is of interest in the advanced practice nursing curriculum. Yet, evidence exploring this area is limited. This systematic review aims to consolidate and synthesize findings on the available evidence of using standardized patients (SPs) on advanced practice nurse (APN) students' learning and assessment experiences., Design: Mixed-studies systematic review., Data Sources: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses from the inception of each database to May 2022., Review Methods: Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method studies involving the use of SPs for education and assessments among APN students were included in this review., Results: Twenty studies were included. Three themes were identified through thematic synthesis: (1) Benefits associated with standardized patients, (2) Uniqueness of standardized patient experience, and (3) Preference and way forward. Overall, these students benefited from refining knowledge, clinical skills, and communication skills, and perceived a boost in confidence in their nursing competencies through SP simulations. More studies with rigorous methodology are needed to ascertain the causal relationships between SP simulations and APN students. Future studies should evaluate the cost-effectiveness of SP, especially in low-income countries. Inter-professional SP simulations and hybrid simulations should be explored further. Health care providers are often "second victims" of traumatic childbirth events and should be adequately supported by their organizations to alleviate occupational stress and burnout. Therefore, this review aimed to explore and understand the vicarious traumatic childbirth experiences of health care providers, including obstetricians, midwives, nurses, and students. A systematic review of qualitative studies was conducted. Seven electronic databases, namely, PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science, were searched from each database's inception to May 2020. In total, 1,575 studies were retrieved and screened according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Seventeen studies were included in this review and were meta-summarized and then meta-synthesized using the Sandelowski and Barroso approach. The overarching theme of "Tunneling through the trauma with a hope of finding an end" was derived, and four main themes along with 15 subthemes were identified. The four main themes were (1) "instantaneous response to the trauma," (2) "finding hope in the midst of chaos," (3) "dealing with the aftermath," and (4) "resolution to move on." Communication and teamwork among health care team members were identified as challenges contributed by professional hierarchy and lack of role clarity. Midwives and labor and delivery nurses expressed powerlessness in advocating for women on many occasions, and health care providers often had feelings of guilt and self-blame after adverse events. Health care providers also reported inadequate support from their colleagues and organizations, which influenced their ability to cope with the aftermath of trauma and their decision to stay in the profession.

Problem: Peer support is a form of social support that can address the complexities of support needs and challenges of parenting children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDDs). However, there is paucity of research on the roles and influences of peer support experienced amongst parents of neurodivergent children. This qualitative systematic review therefore aimed to consolidate and synthesize the experiences of peer support amongst parents caring for neurodivergent children., Eligibility Criteria: Articles were selected if they reported primary qualitative findings on the experiences of peer-support amongst parents of children diagnosed with at least one NDD as classified by DSM-5., Sample: Eleven articles were finalised and included in the review., Results: Four themes emerged: (1) reasons for seeking peer support, (2) different roles of peer support, (3) contributing elements of successful peer support, and (4) barriers against facilitating peer support. The findings of this review revealed that peer support was a valuable social support resource that met the complex support needs of parents. Objective: Parents face many challenges during the perinatal period and are at risk for mental health issues, especially during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Mobile application-based interventions can help parents to improve their psychosocial well-being in a convenient and accessible manner. This review aims to examine the effectiveness of mobile application-based perinatal interventions in improving parenting self-efficacy, anxiety, and depression (primary outcomes), as well as stress, social support, and parent-child bonding (secondary outcomes) among parents., Methods: Seven electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest Thesis and Dissertations) were searched from their respective inception dates until August 2021. The Cochrane Risk of Bias-2 tool was used to conduct quality appraisals. Results were narratively synthesized due to the high heterogeneity of intervention and participant types., Findings: A total of 6164 articles were retrieved from the seven electronic databases and citation searching. After excluding duplicate records and irrelevant titles/abstracts, 105 full texts were examined. Full-text screening excluded another 93 articles, leaving 12 included studies in this review. All studies were rated as having some concerns or a high overall risk of bias. Mobile application-based interventions were found to be feasible and promising in improving parents' overall well-being post-intervention during the perinatal period. Further research would be needed to determine their long-term effects., Key Conclusions and Implications for Practice: Parental well-being was shown to improve using the following intervention components: educational resources on perinatal and infant care, psychotherapy, and support from peers and healthcare professionals. Hence, future interventions could aim to include these components and evaluate all inter-related parenting outcomes (parenting self-efficacy, stress, anxiety, depression, social support, and parent-child bonding). Parents could be provided with experiential learning exposure by using computer animations and virtual reality. Aim: To consolidate the evidence around the experiences of nursing undergraduates and faculty members navigating through remote and online education during the COVID-19 pandemic., Background: The Coronavirus disease 2019 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Virus (COVID-19) has placed massive pressure on healthcare, economic and education systems globally. Restrictive social distancing policies and public health measures necessitated educational institutions to switch from face-to-face to remote and online education to sustain the learning process. These changes have created an uncertain path and undue stress for healthcare learners and faculty, especially for professional roles that traditionally require more hands-on and access to clinical practice particularly pre-licensure nursing students. As such, there is an urgent need to consolidate evidence on the experiences of nursing undergraduates and faculty members as they navigate the rapid transition from face-to-face to remote and online education to ensure continuity of learning in achieving optimal learning outcomes and to support them during current and future public health crises., Design: A systematic review and meta-synthesis of the qualitative literature was undertaken using Sandelowski and Barroso's approach., Methods: Six electronic databases, CINAHL, Embase, ERIC, PsycINFO, PubMed and Scopus, were searched systematically using the eligibility criteria from December 2019 to September 2022. The Critical Appraisal Skills Program checklist for qualitative studies was used to conduct the critical appraisal of the selected articles., Results: Forty-seven studies were included in this review, which encapsulates the experiences of 3052 undergraduates and 241 faculty members. Resilience training is gaining attention as a strategy to build students' resistance to adversity and promote their mental well-being. However, owing to inconsistencies and variations in the content and delivery of resilience training, more work is needed to examine students' experiences and preferences to address issues relating to intervention fidelity. This study adopted a qualitative approach in exploring students' experience of synchronous and asynchronous versions of a digital resilience training program. Seventeen students were interviewed using a semi-structured virtual face-to-face interview via Zoom. The thematic analyses unveiled four themes: embarking on a journey toward resilience, discovering strategies to develop resilience, finding a balance to benefit from resilience skill enhancement, and instilling resilience in the everyday. Future resilience training should consider students' workload and interactivity to enhance their engagement. As being resilient is associated with better mental well-being, the findings of this study may support the development of future wellness programs.

Protective factors that build students' resilience are known. A six-week digital resilience training program was developed on the basis of theory, evidence, and contextual information. The feasibility study sought to evaluate the acceptability, appropriateness, demand, implementation, and limited efficacy of a digital resilience skills enhancement program for undergraduate students. A single group, pre-test, post-test, concurrent mixed methods design among 10 undergraduate students was conducted in one university in Singapore. The content analysis concluded that students accepted and perceived the digital resilience skills enhancement program as appropriate. Students also proposed several improvements, such as the initiation of the program and revisions to the content. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test found significant improvements in resilience ( p = 0.02) and meta-cognitive self-regulation ( p = 0.01) scores with medium (d = 0.79, 95% CI: -0.15 to 1.74) and very large effect sizes (d = 1.31, 95% CI: 0.30-2.33), respectively. Students found the digital resilience program appropriate and were able to apply their newly acquired skills to promote their resilience and learning. Although, several improvements are proposed to enhance the rigor of the digital resilience program, the findings of this study suggests that digital resilience programs are important for students' well-being.

Aims and Objectives: To consolidate and synthesise the current available literature regarding the experiences of endometriosis-associated infertility among women and their partners., Background: Endometriosis is highly associated with infertility which in turn affects many women and their partners in their prime reproductive age., Design: A qualitative systematic review and meta-synthesis was conducted using the PRISMA checklist., Methods: Seven electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses) were searched until October 2020. Qualitative studies exploring the experiences of women and/or their partners aged 18 years and above with endometriosis-associated infertility regardless of marital or co-inhabitation status and sexual orientation were included. Studies examining women and/or partners without clinical diagnosis of endometriosis and studies which only focused on the psychosocial experiences of endometriosis were excluded. The Critical Appraisal Skills Program checklist was used to conduct quality appraisal while the Sandelowski and Barroso's two-step approach was used to meta-summarise and meta-synthesise the data from the included studies., Results: Thirteen studies were included. Five themes (1) Emotional response to the diagnosis, (2) Influence on family planning, (3) Desperation to gradual acceptance, (4) Revision of expected life trajectories and (5) Altered dynamics within the couple unit were derived., Conclusion: Endometriosis causes great psychological distress among women and their partners. Family planning decisions were especially challenging to make for the couples. Background: Contents and mode of delivery of antenatal educational programs differed considerably. Yet there is a lack of high-level evidence about the delivery of these programs., Objective: We aimed to understand the experiences and needs of parents who have attended antenatal educational programs., Design: Six databases were searched from each database. Included studies were appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program tool. Qualitative data were meta-summarized and meta-synthesized., Findings: Seventeen studies were included, and three themes were developed: (1) Contradicting views on antenatal educational programs, (2) Feeling 'well prepared' after attending the antenatal educational programs, and (3) Parents' expectations and way forward for the antenatal educational programs., Discussion: Findings revealed that the description of contents of antenatal educational programs needed to be more specific. Mindfulness strategies were well-received by parents in the included studies. Educators should take into account inclusivity and increase educational resources related to individual, cultural and community needs. Learning needs can be assessed before and after classes. Parents with specific needs that were not addressed should be identified and referred to the relevant professionals for continued support. More deliberate actions were needed during the programs to foster social and professional networks for attendees to support them throughout antenatal and postnatal periods., Conclusion: We consolidated the experiences and needs of parents who have attended antenatal educational programs. Background: Entrustable professional activity (EPA) framework has gained popularity within competency-based healthcare education programmes across disciplines, professions, and countries. As opposed to traditional time-based approach, EPAs bridge the gaps between competency framework and clinical practice, however, limited information on nursing EPAs highlights a need to develop EPAs specific to graduate nursing education to promote patient safety and quality patient care., Objectives: This paper described comprehensively the four-stage approach used to develop and pilot test a set of core EPAs for advanced practice nurse (APN) education., Method: The four-stage approach used to develop and pilot the EPAs included: 1) team formation, 2) development of conceptual framework, 3) identifying and reviewing core EPAs, and 4) pilot testing the EPAs. Post pilot test and surveys were conducted for the EPA developers, APN preceptors and interns to explore their perceptions and experiences using the EPAs., Results: A framework of nine core EPAs was developed for APN education, including: 1) perform an initial assessment and formulate management plans, 2) manage follow-up care for a clinical encounter, 3) plan, perform and evaluate care procedures, 4) recognise and manage patients requiring urgent care, 5) manage care transitions within and between health care organisations, 6) recognise and manage pharmacological needs of patients, 7) collaborate with patients, families, and community to improve health through disease prevention and health promotion, 8) participate in health quality improvement initiative, and 9) develop self and others for professional practice., Conclusion: Despite the stakeholders having generally positive attitudes towards the use of EPAs, it has its drawbacks. More research is needed to examine the psychometric properties of the EPA assessment tools and evaluate the effectiveness of EPAs in graduate nursing education. Background: Peer feedback is an effective learning tool for students, improving academic performance and learning satisfaction. In nursing education, it has been widely used in the assimilation of clinical skills. However, the effectiveness of peer feedback as an educational intervention needs to be evaluated holistically beyond intervention research, considering students' perception to garner valuable insights to guide the successful implementation of peer feedback., Objective: This review aimed to consolidate the qualitative evidence exploring perceptions and experiences of nursing students who have used peer feedback as a learning tool., Design: Qualitative systematic review., Data Sources: Nine databases were searched from their respective inception dates until December 2021., Review Methods: Data were extracted using a modified Joanna Brigg's qualitative data extraction tool, and the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool was used to appraise the quality of included studies. Meta-synthesis was done using Sandelowski and Barroso's two-step approach., Results: The review included 14 studies and the synthesis identified an overarching theme: 'feeling lost to finding ways' and four themes: (1) An uncomfortable learning experience; (2) confronting disagreements; (3) greater engagement with learning; and (4) value added beyond learning., Conclusion: The present review summed up the wide range of nursing students' experiences, from feeling inadequate and having little confidence in the usefulness of peer feedback to reaping valuable benefits in terms of teamwork and leadership skills. The nursing curriculum could include peer feedback; however peer students adequate training and support. Background and Objectives: Current evidence is lacking on physical activity and nutrition-based interventions focusing on the management of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and health-related quality of life among children. To assess the effects of physical activity interventions and nutrition-based interventions for children with T1DM., Methods: Data sources include the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medline, clinicaltrials.gov, the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, CINAHL through January 2022. Study selection includes randomized controlled trials of children aged 18 years and below with T1DM comparing either a physical activity intervention, a nutrition-based intervention, or hybrid physical activity and nutrition-based intervention with placebo or no-treatment control. Data were pooled using a random-effects model. Primary outcomes were hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and health-related quality of life., Results: Eighteen trials were included. Physical activity compared with the no-treatment group showed a lack of effect on HbA1c (mean difference = -0.58, 95% confidence interval -1.20 to 0.05; P value = .07). Nutrition-based intervention compared with no-treatment control for HbA1c level revealed a lack of effect (mean difference = -0.61, 95% confidence interval -1.48 to 0.26; P value = .17). Limitations include paucity of studies and low quality of evidence caused by the risk of bias., Conclusions: Despite the lack of significant evidence, the generally favorable results highlight the potential of such interventions in enhancing glycemic control and health-related quality of life. Childbirth is usually a joyous occasion. However, a significant proportion of parents experienced traumatic childbirths and suffered post-traumatic consequences, which needs urgent attention. Therefore, this review aimed to explore and understand the traumatic childbirth experiences of parents. A systematic review of qualitative studies was done. The consolidated evidence was meta-summarized and meta-synthesized based on Sandelowski and Barroso's approach for synthesizing qualitative research. Seven electronic databases, including PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science, were searched from each database's inception to April 2020. Retrieved studies were screened using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, and 19 studies were included in this review. All included studies were meta-summarized and meta-synthesized. An overarching theme, "traumatic birth: an evolving voyage," with three main themes, (1) "proceedings to traumatic birth," (2) "internal and external battles," and (3) "muddling through to beating the odds," and 10 subthemes were identified. Overall, parents felt fluctuations of emotions that seemed to be never-ending journeys. They expressed that various factors led to their traumatic birth experiences, especially health care providers' dismissive attitudes. Parents commonly reported feelings of powerlessness and fear for the safety of mothers and infants. Their constant battles to overcome traumatic experiences affected some of their relationships. To deal with the trauma, some mothers displayed avoidance behaviors while others relied on social support. As health care providers play important roles in influencing outcomes of childbirth, they should be mindful of the care provided during labors and childbirths.

Aim: To evaluate the characteristics and methodology consistency in nursing research with descriptive phenomenological design., Design: Scoping review methodology., Data Sources: Three electronic databases (CINAHL, Embase, PubMed) were systematically searched for qualitative studies with a descriptive phenomenological design published in nursing journals between January 2021 and December 2021., Review Methods: Quality appraisal of each study was conducted using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklist. Data were extracted and presented narratively based on research objective, design justification and consistency, theoretical framework, sampling method and sample size, data collection method, data analysis approach and presentation of findings., Results: One hundred and three studies were included in the review. Overall, the characteristics of the studies are mostly consistent with Husserl's phenomenology approach in terms of research objectives, the use of other theoretical frameworks, sampling and data collection methods. However, the findings revealed several inconsistencies between research design and data analysis techniques, the lack of design justification and the lack of mention of bracketing., Conclusions: Apart from the need for more research and standardized guidelines to clarify the various qualitative research methods, future nurse researchers are urged to provide more methodological details when publishing a descriptive phenomenological study so that readers can examine the effectiveness and quality of the method., (© 2022 The Authors. Parents of children with developmental disabilities are susceptible to mental health problems. Mindfulness-based and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)-based interventions can improve their mental well-being. This review examined the effectiveness of mindfulness-based and ACT-based interventions in improving mental well-being and mindfulness among parents of children with developmental disabilities. Six electronic databases were searched, resulting in the inclusion of ten studies published between 2014 and 2020. Meta-analysis was conducted using the random-effect model. The results suggest that mindfulness-based and ACT-based interventions were effective in decreasing parental stress, anxiety and depression, however, the effectiveness of these interventions in increasing parental mindfulness was inconclusive. Based on these findings, we discussed considerations for implementing interventions and identified areas which warrant further research., (© 2021. Objective: Adolescence is a formative and turbulent phase where physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive changes leave adolescents vulnerable to psychological disorders. Given the lack of reviews that consolidate and compare worldwide prevalence of depression among adolescents, this review aims to examine the global prevalence of major depressive disorders, dysthymia, and elevated depressive symptoms among adolescents., Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. Six databases were searched for studies published from 2001 to December 2020. Seventy-two studies were included. Subgroup analysis were performed for year of publication, geographical region, gender, and assessment tools used., Results: The global point prevalence rate of elevated self-reported depressive symptoms from 2001 to 2020 was 34% (95% CI: 0.30-0.38). Point prevalence for major depressive disorder (MDD) and dysthymia was 8% (95% CI: 0.02-0.13) and 4% (95% CI: 0.01-0.07), respectively. The pooled one-year prevalence and lifetime prevalence for MDD were 8% (95% CI: 0.05-0.12) and 19% (95% CI: 0.12-0.26). Point prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms among adolescents increased from 24% (95% CI: 0.19-0.28) between 2001 and 2010 to 37% (95% CI: 0.32-0.42) between 2011 and 2020. The Middle East, Africa, and Asia have the highest prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms, and female adolescents were reported to have a higher prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms than male adolescents., Conclusion: Besides targeting those with existing clinical depression, research and policies should also focus on educational and supportive mitigation efforts to curb depressive symptoms among adolescents before escalation. The findings encourage future research to develop more gender-specific and culturally relevant intervention programmes., Practitioner Points: 34% of adolescents globally, aged 10-19 years, are at risk of developing clinical depression, which exceeds the reported estimates of individuals aged 18 to 25 years. Background: End-of-Life care and experiencing death of infants, children, and teenagers remain one of the most difficult and traumatic events for nurses and nursing students, potentially leading to personal and professional distress. Although efforts have been made to alleviate stressors in these settings, improvements remain slow. Understanding nurses and nursing students' experiences of pediatric End-of-Life care and death in multiple care settings may direct interventions to better support quality of care and healthcare professionals in these areas., Objective: This review aimed to qualitatively synthesize existing literature to examine the nurses and nursing students' experiences of providing End-of-Life care to children and the death of pediatric patients., Design: The qualitative systematic review was conducted using Sandelowski and Barroso's guidelines. The included studies were appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skill Program., Data Sources: This qualitative systematic review was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. Six electronic databases (Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PubMed, Embase, PsychINFO, Scopus, and Mednar) were searched from the database inception date through May 2021., Results: Thirty articles were included to form three key themes: (1) Emotional impact of pediatric End-of-Life care and death, (2) Perspective of delivering optimal care: What works and what does not, and (3) The complex role of nurses in pediatric End-of-Life care. Overall, the findings suggested that in an emotionally taxing environment, clinical and emotional support were paramount. Furthermore, there is a need to examine nurses' role in End-of-Life decision making and provide more discussion on professional boundaries., Conclusion: This review offered nurses' and nursing students' perceptions of pediatric End-of Life care and death in the nursing profession. Objective: To explore the perceptions on physical activity during pregnancy among pregnant and postpartum women in Singapore., Design: A descriptive qualitative study. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews. A thematic analysis was conducted to identify the main themes associated with women's perceptions of physical activity during pregnancy., Participants and Setting: Twenty-two women were recruited from a tertiary hospital specializing in healthcare for women and children in Singapore., Findings: Two themes and five subthemes were generated. The themes were "From what I know" about physical activity to actual physical activity and "What keeps and stops me from moving". Women lacked awareness of the recommended guidelines for physical activity during pregnancy. Factors such as support systems, informational support and the benefits associated with physical activity influenced women's physical activity behavior. Factors such as fear of harming the fetus, physical discomforts and family commitments deterred women from participating in physical activity., Key Conclusions: Women lacked understanding of the optimal physical activity needed during pregnancy. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused extraordinary disruptions to education systems globally, forcing a rapid switch from conventional to online education. Although some qualitative studies have been carried out exploring the online education experiences of nursing students and faculty members during the COVID-19 pandemic, to our knowledge, no study has used the Photovoice approach., Objectives: To explore the experiences of nursing students and faculty members as related to online education during the COVID-19 pandemic., Design: A descriptive qualitative design using Photovoice was adopted., Setting: The study took place across five countries and one city in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Hong Kong)., Participants: Fifty-two nursing students and twenty-eight nursing faculty members who participated in online education during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: Each participant submitted one photo substantiated with written reflections. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Ethical approval was obtained from institution-specific ethics boards., Results: Three themes and eleven sub-themes emerged from the data. The three main themes were: 1) Psychological roadblocks to online education; 2) Developing resilience despite adversities; and 3) Online education: What worked and what did not., Conclusion: Through Photovoice, the reflections revealed that nursing students and faculty members were generally overwhelmed with the online education experience. At the same time, participants were satisfied with the flexibility and convenience, opportunities for professional and personal development and safety afforded by online education. However, concerns over academic integrity, practical skills and clinical competencies, engagement and participation, the duality of technology and social isolation out-shadowed the advantages. Purpose: This systematic review aims to consolidate the available qualitative evidence regarding the experiences of women with breast cancer while working or returning to work., Methods: Six electronic databases were searched until December 2020 for qualitative English-language articles examining the experiences of adult females with reproductive cancers while working or returning to work. The Critical Appraisal Skills Program checklist was used to assess the quality of included studies while the Sandelowski and Barroso's two step approach was used to meta-summarize and meta-synthesize the extracted data., Results: Four themes were derived from the 28 included studies: (i) being lost to finding meaning after the cancer diagnosis; (ii) concerns and considerations before returning to work; (iii) reasons for returning to work; and (iv) life at work after cancer diagnosis and treatment., Conclusions: Current findings allowed a deeper understanding into the way the women with breast cancer coped during their cancer journey. Challenges and motivating factors faced by these women while working or returning to work were discussed. Objective: Hospital at Home (HaH) programs have been shown to improve quality of care and patient satisfaction, and reduce bed occupancy rate in hospitals. Despite the prevalence of HaH in Western countries, studies in Asia are limited and the perception of HaH remains underexplored in Asian context. Understanding the perceptions of stakeholders is vital before implementing HaH in any new settings. Thus, the aim of this study is to explore the perceptions of referring physicians, care providers, patients, and caregivers on HaH programs in a multiracial country such as in Singapore., Methods: This study used a descriptive qualitative design. Participants from 2 tertiary hospitals in Singapore, including 13 referring physicians, 10 care providers, 15 patients, and 3 caregivers, were interviewed between June 2020 and September 2020. Data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis., Results: The overarching theme titled "The stakeholders' perception on HaH" was pillared by 4 main themes: (1) patients suitable for HaH; (2) perceived advantages and benefits of HaH; (3) perceived risks, anxiety, and concerns about HaH; and (4) potential enablers of HaH. Overall, the findings reported that most of the stakeholders embraced HaH. Timely medical interventions and support from care providers were reportedly important factors to maintain patient safety and quality of care. Background and Objectives: Grandparenting trends have been increasing due to rises in female employment, economic stressors, and single-parent families. Because the level of grandparental involvement could either result in beneficial or adverse physical and mental health outcomes, this review aims to use a social-ecological model to compare the childcare experiences of primary and nonprimary grandparent caregivers and the effects of childcare on their physical and emotional health., Research Design and Methods: This is a systematic review. CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, PubMed, and Scopus were searched for qualitative papers. A thematic analysis was conducted, and data were framed using the social-ecological model., Results: Seventy-four qualitative studies were included. Four themes were generated: intrapersonal: attitudes and motivations (obligation and sense of responsibility, limited physical health, and emotional resources), interpersonal: relationships with grandchildren and adult children (grandparental roles and gendered differences, forging bonds with grandchildren, role ambiguities, conflicts and drawing boundaries, and support and relationships with others), organizational: social services and educational needs, and policy: financial and legal issues. Grandparental well-being is likely to be dependent on the context of the childcare provided, relational bonds with adult children and grandchildren, and the availability of a community and institutional, legal, and financial support., Discussion and Implications: The act of grandparenting is laden with cost and reward. Background: The risks and benefits of different birthing positions are commonly studied, but both paternal and maternal preferences and experiences of different birth positions are not examined. Therefore, this systematic review aims to explore the perceptions of women and their partners on birthing positions during the first and second stage of labor, so that maternity health care practitioners can provide better quality patient-centered care., Methods: Six databases were searched from each database's inception through November 2020. Qualitative or mixed-methods studies exploring perceptions of women and/or their partners on birthing positions were included in the review. Key information and findings of the studies were extracted; qualitative data were meta-summarized, then meta-synthesized using thematic analysis., Results: Seven studies were included, and four themes emerged: (a) Influences on choice and preference; (b) mixed experiences from "pain" to "more in control"; (c) impact on postpartum health; and (d) ways to empower couples in their choice., Conclusions: Women's preferences for birthing positions were influenced by a myriad of personal and socio-cultural beliefs and traditions. Problem: The lives of family members for children with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) after often shaped around the diagnosis as long-term/life-long care is needed. The combination of illness symptoms, treatment cost, and caregiving demands for T1DM negatively affects family functioning. While the experiences and needs of both parents and children suffering from T1DM are well documented, literature on healthy siblings of children with T1DM remains scarce., Purpose: This systematic review aims to consolidate and examine the experiences and needs of siblings of children with T1DM., Eligibility Criteria: Qualitative and quantitative studies exploring the experiences and needs of children under 18 years old whose siblings are diagnosed with T1DM., Sample: Six electronic databases (PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Scopus and ProQuest) were searched from inception till July 2021. Thirteen studies met the inclusion criteria and were subjected to narrative synthesis., Results: Four themes were generated from the synthesis: (1) emotional responses to sibling's condition, (2) stepping out of comfort zone, (3) changes in family dynamics, and (4) takeaways and a way forward., Conclusions: The impact of T1DM diagnosis on siblings of children with T1DM suggest a need for healthcare providers to provide them better emotional and informational support, and allow them more involvement in the care for their sibling with T1DM., Implications: Findings from this review will be able to inform policymakers on the development of future support programmes for children with T1DM and their families and encourage clinicians to revise T1DM care plans to be more family-centered. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the lives of many. Particularly, nursing students experience greater stress as their normal curriculum is interrupted and some of them face the risk of being infected as frontline workers. Nursing faculty members may face similar struggles, in addition to developing teaching materials for online learning. Thus, it is important to examine the faculty members' and students' views on their ability to adapt during the pandemic to obtain a holistic view of how learning and training has been affected., Design: The descriptive cross-sectional quantitative design was used., Settings: Data were collected from Southeast and East Asian Nursing Education and Research Network (SEANERN) affiliated nursing institutions from January 2021 to August 2021., Participants: A total of 1897 nursing students and 395 faculty members from SEANERN-affiliated nursing institutions in Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam were recruited for this study., Methods: Quantitative surveys were used to explore the satisfaction levels in education modalities, confidence levels, psychosocial well-being, sense of coherence and stress levels of nursing students and faculty members during the COVID-19 pandemic., Results: Participants were mostly satisfied with the new education modalities, although most students felt that their education was compromised. Both groups showed positive levels of psychosocial well-being, despite scoring low to medium on the sense of coherence scale and experiencing great stress. The participants' sense of coherence was positively correlated with their psychosocial well-being and negatively correlated with stress levels., Conclusions: While the COVID-19 pandemic had negatively impacted the lives of nursing students and faculty members, most of them had a healthy level of psychosocial well-being. Having a strong sense of coherence was associated with better psychosocial health and lower stress levels. As such, it may be helpful to develop interventions aimed at improving the sense of coherence of nursing students and staff to help them manage stressors better., (Copyright © 2022. This scoping review aims to explore nursing students' insights of learning evidence-based practice skills through the use of interactive online technology. Studies were obtained from seven electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global) until May 2021. This review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews and was guided by the Arksey and O'Malley framework (Scoping studies: Towards a methodological framework. International Journal of Social Research Methodology, 2005, 8(1), 19-32). Findings were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three themes were derived from the 22 included studies: (1) embracing new changes, (2) challenges to tackle, and (3) towards future improvement. Many nursing students reported positive learning experiences of evidence-based practice skills using interactive online technology. The challenges faced by students and suggestions for improvement were discussed. Future online evidence-based practice courses should consider blended pedagogies, providing students with effective scaffolding (step-by-step guidance) and allowing students to choose their preferred instructional strategies. Thorough planning, testing, and orientation should be conducted before the programs' implementation. This qualitative systematic review and meta-synthesis aims to examine nurses' barriers in adopting health-promoting behaviours., Methods: Six electronic databases were searched from their respective inception dates to October 2021: EMBASE, Web of Science, PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. The Critical Appraisal Skills Program checklist was used to appraise the quality of included studies. Data synthesis followed Sandelowski's and Barroso's two-step approach., Results: Fourteen studies were included in this review, and three themes were generated as follows: (1) work environment and workplace culture, (2) nature of the job and (3) intrinsic factors., Conclusion: This review synthesized available evidence on the barriers nurses experienced while adopting health-promoting behaviours. Health-care institutions should target these factors when providing facilities and services to support nurses in adopting health-promoting behaviours. Policies should focus on workplace health promotion by advocating for healthy lifestyle policies. The meta-synthesis was completed according to Sandelowski and Barroso's guidelines., Results: Sixteen articles met the inclusion criteria. The overarching synthesized theme was "the intricacies of developing HaH," and the four main themes were (1) factors influencing patient selection, (2) advantages of HaH, (3) challenges of HaH, and (4) enablers for HaH development., Conclusion: Overall, high levels of satisfaction were expressed by various stakeholders. Continuity of care remains an important factor for patient-centeredness in HaH. Caregivers should be involved in the decision-making process and supported throughout the HaH duration to prevent caregiver burnout. Collaboration and coordination among healthcare professionals are vital and can be strengthened through training and technological advancements of remote patient monitoring. Objectives: To consolidate the available evidence regarding healthcare students' experiences of coaching interventions' effect on their mental well-being in tertiary educational institutions., Design: A mixed studies review., Data Sources: Seven electronic databases were searched for relevant studies from their inception dates until July 2021: PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global., Review Methods: This review observed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines and was guided by Pluye and Hong's (2014) framework for mixed studies review. Quality appraisal of included studies was conducted using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. A convergent qualitative synthesis design for mixed studies reviews was adopted to analyze all findings and thematic analysis was conducted according to Braun and Clarke's (2006) framework., Results: Three themes and seven subthemes are generated from the 12 included studies. The main themes are: 1) Receiving much-needed help, 2) Unlocking the secrets of success, and 3) Way forward for coaching in healthcare education., Conclusions: Many students benefited from the coaching interventions in terms of academic, emotional and psychological support and received guidance in professional development. However, careful preparation of both coaches and students is needed to improve the success of coaching interventions. Future coaching interventions could incorporate both group and individual sessions, assign students to coaches based on their clinical interests and consider conducting online coaching sessions using video calls. Improvement of study rigor would be required to achieve more accurate results. Resilience has been documented as an essential component in managing stress. However, understanding how undergraduate students with different sociodemographic characteristics perceive resilience remains understudied. This study aimed to explore how undergraduate students in one university define and build resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students' perception and preferences for receiving resilience training were additionally solicited. A descriptive qualitative cross-sectional study was conducted. Twenty-seven students were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide via Skype instant messaging. The thematic analysis generated five themes: resilience as enduring and withstanding; the building blocks of resilience; resilience: learning or earning; pedagogical considerations for resilience training; and a blended platform for resilience training. Participants described resilience as an enduring and withstanding trait essential for university students. Resilience can be built from intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors that enhanced resilience included desire to succeed and motivation. Extrinsic factors were relational in nature, and friends, family, teachers, and religion were found to boost resilience. Students had several recommendations in designing resilience training, and they recommended the use of a blended platform. Further, students suggested the use of videos, narratives from resilient individuals, and using reflective practice as a pedagogy in resilience training. Future resilience training should consist of personal and interpersonal factors and should be introduced early during the academic term of students' university life. In consideration of the adverse societal, physical, and psychological impacts of bullying on a child's development and future, many studies have developed anti-bullying programs and educational interventions to curb bullying occurrences. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to examine the effectiveness of such educational interventions at reducing the frequencies of traditional bullying or cyberbullying and cybervictimization among adolescents. A comprehensive search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Google Scholar, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. Only quantitative studies that reported the effects of educational interventions on reducing the frequencies of traditional bullying or cyberbullying victimization and perpetration were included. Seventeen studies ( N total = 35,694 adolescents, Range child age = 10-18 years) were finalized, and meta-analyses were conducted using a random effect model. Overall, the existing educational interventions had very small to small effect sizes on traditional bullying and cyberbullying perpetration (traditional: standardized mean differences [SMD] = -.30 and cyber: SMD = -.16) and victimization (traditional: SMD = -18 and cyber: SMD = -.13) among adolescents. Type of intervention (i.e., whole school-based or classroom-based), program duration, and presence of parental involvement did not moderate program effectiveness, but cyberbullying programs were more effective when delivered by technology-savvy content experts compared to teachers. Since existing educational interventions were marginally effective in reducing bullying frequencies, further research is needed to identify key moderators that enhance educational programs or develop alternative forms of anti-bullying interventions.

Background: Gestational breast cancer is diagnosed during pregnancy or within the first postpartum year. There is a lack of studies on the experiences of ethnically diverse Asian women with gestational breast cancer., Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of Asian women with gestational breast cancer so necessary support can be rendered., Methods: This qualitative descriptive study used purposive sampling to recruit 7 women with gestational breast cancer who were following up at the breast center of a tertiary women's hospital in Singapore. Semistructured, individual, face-to-face, audio-recorded interviews were used to explore the in-depth experiences of these women. Data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis., Results: Three main themes emerged from the thematic analysis: (1) being a sick woman, (2) juggling between being a mother and a patient, and (3) seeking normalcy. Women had to contend with disruptive changes from gestational breast cancer, both emotionally and physically. They were constantly distressed by their altered body images, and family support was vital to help these women cope with their treatments. Alternative support sources included healthcare professionals and the Internet., Conclusion: Gestational breast cancer experiences varied based on the women's encounter perceptions and existing support. Their experiences may be improved through further support to mediate their coping efforts. Background: The transition to parenthood can be challenging, and parents are vulnerable to psychological disorders during the perinatal period. This may have adverse long-term consequences on a child's development. Given the rise in technology and parents' preferences for mobile health apps, a supportive mobile health intervention is optimal. However, there is a lack of a theoretical framework and technology-based perinatal educational intervention for couples with healthy infants., Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the Supportive Parenting App (SPA) development procedure and highlight the challenges and lessons learned., Methods: The SPA development procedure was guided by the information systems research framework, which emphasizes a nonlinear, iterative, and user-centered process involving 3 research cycles-the relevance cycle, design cycle, and rigor cycle. Treatment fidelity was ensured, and team cohesiveness was maintained using strategies from the Tuckman model of team development., Results: In the relevance cycle, end-user requirements were identified through focus groups and interviews. In the rigor cycle, the user engagement pyramid and well-established theories (social cognitive theory proposed by Bandura and attachment theory proposed by Bowlby) were used to inform and justify the features of the artifact. In the design cycle, the admin portal was developed using Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, whereas the SPA, which ran on both iOS and Android, was developed using hybrid development tools. The SPA featured knowledge-based content, informational videos and audio clips, a discussion forum, chat groups, and a frequently asked questions and expert advice section. The intervention underwent iterative testing by a small group of new parents and research team members. Qualitative feedback was obtained for further app enhancements before official implementation. Testing revealed user and technological issues, such as web browser and app incompatibility, a lack of notifications for both administrators and users, and limited search engine capability., Conclusions: The information systems research framework documented the technical details of the SPA but did not take into consideration the interpersonal and real-life challenges. Ineffective communication between the health care research team and the app developers, limited resources, and the COVID-19 pandemic were the main challenges faced during content development. Quick adaptability, team cohesion, and hindsight budgeting are crucial for intervention development.
