O cuidar em oncologia pediátrica é desafiador, pois requer, além de recursos materiais e terapêuticos específicos, uma equipe multidisciplinar atenta para o que se passa no universo infantil. Exige profissionais com responsabilidade, compromisso, preparo e sensibilidade para cuidar da criança que ali se encontra doente. Apresenta-se como objetivo analisar artigos que contenham pesquisas acerca da formação do enfermeiro e nas dificuldades encontradas por enfermeiros onco-pediátricos na vida profissional. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica integrativa de abordagem qualitativa. Observou-se que a maioria das universidades brasileiras seguem o mínimo exigido da grade curricular de enfermagem, e isso acarreta consequências para os egressos recém-formados, ainda sem especialização que tentam entrar no mercado de trabalho oncológico. Os que conseguem ingressar e não estão totalmente preparados para a realidade da oncologia-pediátrica, durante o curso generalista, tem como incentivo e gastos extras dentro do mercado de trabalho, os estudos continuados oferecidos pelos contratantes e podem também ter como consequência em suas vidas, doenças ocupacionais.

Background Carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is an evergreen tree that belongs to the Leguminosae family and is typical of the Mediterranean basin. It is well known for its valuable locust bean gum obtained from carob seeds. However, the food industry can obtain different carob products from carob fruit after processing. Carob products are good sources of dietary fibre, sugars, and a range of bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and D-pinitol. Scope and approach Bioactive compounds present in carob fruit and its derived products help control many health problems such as diabetes, heart diseases, and gastrointestinal disorders due to their anti-hyperglycaemic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. So, carob products have a great potential to be used as a functional food ingredient. Key findings and conclusions This article focuses on carob characteristics and processing, chemical composition, health benefits, and applications in food formulations to explore the potential of carob in developing a wide variety of health-beneficial food products.

It is uncertain whether myocardial fluorodeoxyglucose uptake occurs solely due to physiological features or if it represents a metabolic disarrangement under chemotherapy.To investigate the chemotherapy effects on the heart of patients with lymphoma by positron emission tomography associated with computed tomography scans (PET/CT) with 2-deoxy-2[18F] fluoro-D-glucose (18F-FDG PET/CT) before, during and/or after chemotherapy.Seventy patients with lymphoma submitted to18F-FDG PET/CT were retrospectively analyzed. The level of significance was 5%.18F-FDG cardiac uptake was assessed by three measurements: left ventricular maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), heart to blood pool (aorta) ratio, and heart to liver ratio in all the exams. Body weight, fasting blood sugar, post-injection time, and the injected dose of18F-FDG between the scans were also compared.Mean age was 50.4 ± 20.1 years and 50% was female. The analysis was carried out in two groups: baseline vs. interim PET/CT, and baseline vs. post-therapy PET/CT. There was no significant difference in clinical variables or protocol scans variables. We observed an increase in left ventricular (LV) SUVmax from 3.5±1.9 (baseline) to 5.6±4.0 (interim), p=0.01, and from 4.0±2.2 (baseline) to 6.1±4.2 (post-therapy), p0.001. A percentage increase ≥30% of LV SUVmax occurred in more than half of the sample. The rise of cardiac SUV was accompanied by an increase in LV SUVmax/Aorta SUVmax and LV SUVmean/Liver SUVmean ratios.This study showed a clear increase in cardiac18F-FDG uptake in patients with lymphoma during and/or after chemotherapy. The literature corroborates with these findings and suggests that18F-FDG PET/CT is a sensitive and reliable imaging exam to detect early metabolic signs of cardiotoxicity.Ainda não está estabelecido se a captação de fluorodesoxiglicose no miocárdio ocorre exclusivamente por características fisiológicas ou se representa um desarranjo metabólico causado pela quimioterapia.Investigar os efeitos da quimioterapia no coração dos pacientes com linfoma por tomografia por emissão de pósitrons associada a tomografia computadorizada (PET/CT) com 2-[18F]-fluoro-2-desoxi-D-glicose (18F-FDG PET/CT) antes, durante e/ou após a quimioterapia.Setenta pacientes com linfoma submetidos a 18F-FDG PET/CT foram retrospectivamente analisados. O nível de significância foi de 5%. A captação de 18F-FDG foi avaliada por três medidas: captação máxima no ventrículo esquerdo ( standardized uptake value , SUV max), razão SUV cardíaco / aorta e SUV cardíaco / SUV no fígado. Também foram comparados peso corporal, glicemia de jejum, tempo pós-injeção e dose administrada de 18F-FDG entre os exames.A idade média foi de 50,4 ± 20,1 anos e 50% dos pacientes eram mulheres. A análise foi realizada em dois grupos – PET/CT basal vs. intermediário e PET/CT basal vs pós-terapia. Não houve diferença significativa entre as variáveis clínicas e do protocolo dos exames entre os diferentes momentos avaliados. Nós observamos um aumento na SUV máxima no ventrículo esquerdo de 3,5±1,9 (basal) para 5,6±4,0 (intermediário), p=0,01, e de 4,0±2,2 (basal) para 6,1±4,2 (pós-terapia), p0,001. Uma porcentagem de aumento ≥30% na SUV máxima no ventrículo esquerdo ocorreu em mais da metade da amostra. O aumento da SUV cardíaca foi acompanhado por um aumento na razão SUV máxima no ventrículo esquerdo / SUV máxima na aorta e SUV média no ventrículo esquerdo /SUV média no fígado.O estudo mostrou um aumento evidente na captação cardíaca de 18F-FDG em pacientes com linfoma, durante e após quimioterapia. A literatura corrobora com esses achados e sugere que a 18F-FDG PET/CT pode ser um exame de imagem sensível e confiável para detectar sinais metabólicos precoces de cardiotoxicidade.

The novel carbon allotrope with particular and unique 2D arrangement of carbon atoms similar to a Cairo pentagonal tiling, with interplay of $sp^{3}$ and $sp^{2}$ hybridized carbon atoms is called of Penta-graphene (PG). Previous theoretical investigations have shown that PG monolayer is mechanically and thermodynamically stable, possessing also a large band gap of $3.25eV$. This new carbon allotrope with unique carbon atom arrangement in a network (non-coplanar pentagons) is the focus of the theoretical investigations in this work. Using the non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with reactive modern force field ReaxFF, we performed computational modeling of the nanostructural, dynamics e mechanical properties of penta-graphene monolayer under high temperature conditions. We obtained in our results the effect of the temperature in mechanical properties of penta-graphene monolayer up to $2000K$, where our results show that strain rate was strong effect on the mechanical properties with reduction of the $67$\%, reduction in the Ultimate Tensile Streght (UTS) $ 35.88 - 11.83GPa.nm $ and Young's Modulus ($Y_{Mod}$) of the $ 227.15 - 154.76GPa.nm $. In this work we also calculated the reactive degradation of monolayer of penta-graphene at temperatures changes of $10K$ up to $2000K$. Thus, our averages show that penta-graphene monolayer loss atomic configurations with temperature effect up to $600K$, where the monolayer show nanostructural transition with several islands of graphene, large regions of porosity, small 1D carbon chains, and also negative curved layer., Submitted to ChemPhysLetters

In a biased random-key genetic algorithm, a deterministic decoder algorithm takes a solution represented by a vector of real numbers (random-keys) and builds a feasible solution for the problem at hand. Selection is said to be biased not only because one parent is always a high-quality solution, but also because it has a higher probability of passing its characteristics to its offspring. Path-relinking is a search intensification strategy to explore trajectories connecting high-quality solutions. In this work, we show how path-relinking can be applied in the space of the random-keys and successfully explored as a progressive crossover strategy in biased random-key genetic algorithms. The efficiency of the newly proposed improved crossover strategies, combining multiple crossover operators with the progressive crossover strategy by path-relinking, is illustrated by applications on two problems: the single-round divisible load scheduling problem and the multi-round divisible load scheduling problem. The computational results show that the improved crossover strategies, combining multiple crossover operators with the progressive crossover strategy by path-relinking, are able not only to improve the running times of the original BRKGA, but also to find better solutions in the same running times.

Introduction Instituto do Câncer do Estado de Sao Paulo (ICESP-HCFMUSP) is a public universitaryoncological hospital, with currently 43 thousand active patients. As an exception in Brazil, it deliversanticoagulants to outpatients to assure the continuation of treatment after hospital discharge.Anticoagulants are considered high vigilance medicines due to their potential to significantly jeopardizepatients health if misused. They are specially identified and stored to differentiate them from otherproducts, exhibit a special alert when prescribed and are delivered to patients with a folder containinginformation on them. In October 2018, a recommendation on the treatment of venous thromboembolism incancer patients was launched at ICESP-HCFMUSP aiming to optimize local resources, improve theanticoagulation management, overcome the irregular supply of enoxaparin and reduce the burden ofparenteral anticoagulation whenever possible. It's available at the intranet. Concomitantly, rivaroxabanbecame available and a 6-month period of dedicated pharmaceutical vigilance was started. Aim This report aims to show the relevance of pharmaceutical vigilance, how it can be carried out and itscontribution to refine the management of a new anticoagulant. Materials and methods 48 pharmacists and 2 hematologists (Thrombosis and Hemostasis team)handled the pharmaceutical vigilance process from October 2018 to April 2019. All professionals weretrained on the recommendation regarding the eligibility and exclusion criteria for prescribing rivaroxaban,its dosage, interactions and management details. The process comprised: evaluation of inpatients andoutpatients rivaroxaban prescriptions, investigation of adverse events, longitudinal evaluation of clinicalrecords of patients on rivaroxaban and medical support to anticoagulation management as requested. Anydiscrepancy between the recommendation and a prescription was considered a non conformity. Specialmaterials to identify the new anticoagulant and educate professionals and patients were developed. Allclinical documents were electronic (TASY) accessible only by authorized professionals by password.Results are described as frequencies. Results 762 evaluations were performed by the pharmacists in the 6-month period: 490 inpatients (100%)and 199 outpatients (44.6%) prescriptions, 69 recordings and 4 notified (100%) adverse events, resultingin 126, 13, 9 and 8 non conformities, respectively. Besides supporting the pharmacists, the hematologistsreplied to additional 22 requests, finding out 15 non conformities. Seven bleeding episodes and 7thrombosis recurrences were detected, none resulting in death. All except 1 recurrence were associated tosome non conformity. Clarification and/or educational actions were carried out whenever a non conformitywas found. Around 500 outpatients received the folder on rivaroxaban. Conclusions The comprehensive analysis of prescriptions and records with prompt interaction withprescribers facing non conformities could contribute to improve the management of a new anticoagulant ata cancer institution.

Background: Cancer associated venous thrombosis (CAT) can affect 20% of oncologic patients. Its management is challenging due to coexistent risk of bleeding and thrombosis (VTE) recurrence, that are 6 and approximately 4 fold higher compared to non-cancer patients, respectively. Anticoagulant choice needs to be careful and can be guided by a recommendation to avoid those complications. Aim: To evaluate effectiveness and safety of anticoagulation according to a public cancer institution recommendation on CAT management. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study carried out from October 2018 to January 2020. The recommendation on CAT management included defined criteria to select the proper anticoagulant for each patient, to make adjustments and to handle anticoagulation in challenging situations, like thrombocytopenia, in the perioperative period and facing bleeding and thrombosis recurrence. A 3-month ambulatory was scheduled to evaluate eligibility of outpatients on enoxaparin to switch to rivaroxaban (new at the institution), based on criteria defined by the recommendation. All consecutive adult oncologic outpatients on therapeutic enoxaparin in the institution were considered eligible for the ambulatory. Retrospective data on cancer, comorbidities, bleeding, VTE recurrence and death during 1 year since the first visit were captured from an electronic recording. Cumulative incidence of bleeding and VTE recurrence were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Results: 326 patients were referred to the ambulatory and 268 were included in the analyses, with a median age of 63 years (IQR 53-71). Sixty-one percent were female and 86% had solid tumours (53% metastatic). The main sites were the gastrointestinal tract (27%), breast (12%) and lungs (10%). Forty-six percent of the patients switched to rivaroxaban and 6% were able to stop anticoagulation. From the 85 patients who remained on enoxaparin, 51.7% had some dosing adjustment (to 1.5 mg/kg/day or to prophylactic dose). The main reason for not switching to rivaroxaban was drug-drug interaction (27%). One-year cumulative incidence of VTE recurrence was 11.2% (95% CI 7.7-16.2) and of overall bleeding was 13.4% (95% CI 9.4-18.7). Major bleeding occurred in 8 out of 268 patients (2.9%). Death rate was 32%, with no one due to bleeding. No significant difference in outcomes was observed between patients who had switched or not. Discussion: Severity of cancer status was considered relevant for the high rate of deaths. Cumulative incidence of bleeding as well as thrombosis recurrence were similar to the described in the literature, although many clinical trials on direct oral anticoagulants in cancer patients had a shorter period of follow-up. Conclusions: Recommendation-based decision on anticoagulant choice and management showed similar effectiveness and safety independently of the chosen anticoagulant. No relevant hazards due to anticoagulation were observed during the follow-up period.

Background: A wide variety of social, cultural and economic factors may influence dietary patterns. This work aims to identify the main determinants of food consumption and barriers for healthy eating at the workplace, in a university setting. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with 533 participants. Data were obtained through the application of a self-administered questionnaire that included socio-demographic information, food consumption determinants and the main perceived barriers for healthy eating at the workplace. Results: The respondents identified “price” (22.5%), “meal quality” (20.7%), and “location/distance” (16.5%). For women, the determinant “availability of healthy food options” was more important than for men (p &lt, 0.001). The food consumption determinants at the workplace most referred to by respondents were related to the nutritional value. Smell, taste, appearance and texture, and good value for money, were also considered important for choosing food at the workplace. Respondents referred to work commitments and lack of time as the main barriers for healthy eating at the workplace. Conclusions: Identification of determinants involved in food consumption, and the barriers for healthy eating, may contribute to a better definition of health promotion initiatives at the workplace aiming to improve nutritional intake.

A justificativa para o desenvolvimento desta investigação fundamenta-se na irrefutável relevância da conceção das Cidades Educadoras, reportando ao entendimento da cidade como território educativo, que pode ser dotada de lugares com capacidade de desenvolvimento e transformação cidadã, com o fomento de políticas públicas educativas e culturais permanentes, que diligencia uma cultura vibrante, e coopera para o aprendizado dos seus habitantes ao longo de toda a vida. Este conceito foi inspirado no movimento das Cidades Educadoras, que teve início em 1990, com o I Congresso Internacional de Cidades Educadoras, realizado em Barcelona, Espanha. Esta investigação distinguiu três cidades de três países membros da Associação Internacional de Cidades Educadoras (AICE), que assumiram o compromisso de reger-se pelos princípios inscritos na Carta das Cidades Educadoras. Suas ações, publicadas no Banco Internacional de Documentos de Cidades Educadoras (BIDCE), corroboram o entendimento da necessidade de reestruturação dos vínculos urbanos a partir de políticas públicas por elas concebidas. As práticas compartilhadas por estas cidades assumidas como Cidades Educadoras foram: Programa de Conservação da Biodiversidade de Vila Real, Vila Real, Portugal; Plano Plurianual Participativo (PPA) da cidade de São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brasil; e Itinerário de Viladecavalls a Can Sanahuja, com código QR, uma experiência de aprendizagem-serviço, Espanha. As experiências compartilhadas validam, através dos exemplos das suas ações educativas, a possibilidade de observar o processo de construção dos municípios em redes educativas, com a incumbência de transmutar políticas públicas educativas antiquadas, numa nova visão de cidade, onde a educação, a convivência plural, o desenvolvimento sustentável, a desigualdade social e os direitos humanos sejam reconhecidos, e o direito à cidadania seja exercido.

However, it is desirable to find new sustainable sources and synthesis for fingerprint developers, in order to reduce the production costs, to improve the sensitivity and to reduce environment impact after the disposal. This report describes a study involving the production of acetylated cashew-gum-based silver nanoparticles (ACG-AgNPs), using three concentrations of ACG (0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 mg/mL). The nanoparticles were characterized by UV-VIS spectroscopy, AFM (atomic force microscopy) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy). In addition, computer simulations and evaluation of their effect as a potential fingerprint developer on paper were studied, using ninhydrin as a positive control. The results showed that samples were able to reveal the lines contained in the fingerprint residues on paper. Positive results were obtained for all the samples in tests performed 1, 6 and 24 h after application. Howeverthe best performance was observed with the sample containing ACG 0.5 mg/mL. ACG-AgNPs have potential for practical and rapid latent fingerprint development on porous surfaces, which allows the development of a product to be used even at the crime scene. Another advantage was the synthesis process: simple, fast, low-cost and using a biocompatible and biodegradable material as stabilizer, providing a non-toxic material. In addition, this material, is likely to cause less environmental damage than the reagents used by conventional techniques. Several scientific studies point fruits as rich sources of antioxidants but mainly focus on their edible part. However, fruits wastes are abundant sources of bioactive compounds and nutrients, which are considered to be health beneficial. The main purpose was to characterise juice, pulp, peel and seeds of Piel de Sapo melon, in terms of several physicochemical characteristics (soluble solids content, titratable acidity, pH, potassium, colour and water activity), some bioactive compounds (total phenolics, vitamin C, chlorophylls and total carotenoids) and total antioxidant activity. Juice, pulp, peel and seeds represent 47, 19, 27 and 5% of melon total weight, respectively. Peel and seeds stood out by their higher concentration of total phenolics compounds and antioxidant activity when compared to edible parts. The highest potassium concentration was found in seeds. Chlorophylls were only detected in peel, while carotenoids were not detected in any part of the melon analysed. Juice and pulp contributed to 69% of vitamin C amount of the whole fruit. However, its concentration in peel was equivalent to the ones observed in juice and pulp. These results pointed out the importance of fruit wastes valorisation and the development of strategies for their re-utilisation.

Herein, we present the light-induced synthesis and characterization of a La3+/spiropyran derivative complex (LaMC) and its application as a catalyst when incorporated into electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) fibers. In addition to experimental methods, computational calculations were also essential to better understand the structure and electronic characteristics of LaMC. The LaMC complex was identified as a 10-coordinated structure with the La3+ ion coordinated by four oxygens from the phenolate and the carbonyl of the carboxyl acid group from both MC ligands and by six oxygens from three nitrate ligands. In addition, LaMC was capable of getting reversibly isomerized by UV or visible light cycling. All PCL fibers were successively obtained, and their morphologies, surface properties, and catalytic behavior were studied. Results showed that PCL/LaMC fibers were capable of catalyzing bis(2,4-dinitrophenyl)phosphate degradation efficiently. Complete hydrolysis was accomplished in only 1.5 days relative to the half-life time of 35 days for the uncatalyzed hydrolysis at pH 8.1 and 25 °C.

Introdução: Há alimentos transgénicos (modificados geneticamente) a serem cultivados, comercializados e consumidos em Portugal. É importante que os médicos se mantenham ao corrente quanto aos impactos de tais alimentos na saúde. Este trabalho propõe-se identificar a opinião, conhecimento e necessidades de formação dos médicos face aos alimentos transgénicos. Material e Métodos: Foi aplicado um inquérito a 278 médicos. Resultados: Em relação à opinião, 85,8% apresentam uma posição neutra, 12,5 % negativa e uma minoria (1,7%) positiva. No entanto, 79,8% têm um nível de conhecimento baixo, 17,7% médio e 2,5% alto. De referir que 91,4% consideram útil existir algum tipo de formação durante a educação universitária e 65,1% destacaram ser muito útil ao longo da vida profissional a existência de formação continuada sobre esta temática. Emergiram dois perfis de médicos: um grupo (83%), interessado em saber mais sobre alimentos transgénicos e outro grupo (17%), desinteressado. Discussão: Os médicos são considerados fontes de referência fiável a quem a população opta por recorrer para obter informação sobre saúde, o que sugere a necessidade de se manter um conhecimento suficiente e atualizado sobre este tema. Conclusão: Este estudo é pioneiro no que se refere ao posicionamento de médicos portugueses relativamente a estes alimentos. Os resultados apontam para uma necessidade de formação específica., Introduction: Transgenic (genetically modified) foods are being grown, sold and eaten in Portugal. As such it is important that physicians stay up to date on any negative health consequences of such foods. This study aimed to identify their opinion, knowledge and training needs regarding transgenic foods. Material and Methods: A total of 278 physicians responded to a survey. Results: In terms of opinion, 85.8% of physicians had a neutral position, 12.5% had a negative view and a minority (1.7%) was positive. However, 79.8% had a low level of knowledge, 17.7% had an average level of knowledge and only 2.5% showed a high level of knowledge regarding the subject. It should be noted that 91.4% of physicians consider that it is useful to carry out some kind of training during their university education and 65.1% said that it would be very useful during the professional life to have continuing education concerning the issue. Most physicians (83%) could be grouped together according to their interest in learning more. The other group (17%) showed lack of interest. Discussion: Physicians are considered reliable sources, to whom the general population can turn to in order to access valuable health information, which suggests the need to stay up-to-date regarding transgenic foods. Conclusion: This is a pioneering study on Portuguese physicians and transgenic foods. Results point to a need for specific training concerning this issue.

In order to improve the overall quality of frozen carrots (Daucus carota L.), the degradation kinetics of several attributes were quantified during frozen storage under isothermal and nonisothermal conditions. The experimental results showed that the analyzed quality parameters were significantly affected by both tested frozen regimes. For both storage conditions, the degradation of color parameters and drip loss followed zero-order kinetics, and the texture was successfully described by a fractional kinetic model. A first-order kinetic model was adequate in describing total vitamin C decay under isothermal storage conditions. The storage temperature effect was adequately modeled by the Arrhenius law. The carrots shelf life under isothermal storage conditions of −18°C, using a threshold of 50% vitamin C content, will be of 118 days. Practical applications: The objective of this work was to evaluate the degradation kinetics of several quality attributes of carrots when subjected to various frozen storage temperature conditions that may occur along the distribution chain. The quality attributes degradation mechanisms are governed by chemical and/or physical changes that need to be systematically evaluated for further incorporation into product and process designs. O experimento foi realizado no Laboratório de Análises de Sementes do Instituto de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (LAS–ICA/UFMG). As cultivares foram Gigante Jaíba, Compridogrande rio, Morro redondo e Comprido verde-claro. Determinou-se o teor de umidade, massa de mil sementes, massa fresca e massa seca dos frutos e sementes, germinação, emergência, contagem de plântulas normais, além do índice de velocidade de germinação e emergência. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância, adotando-seo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. A cultivar Gigante Jaíba destacou-se por apresentar os maiores resultados para massa frescae seca e massade mil sementes. Os testes de germinação e vigor foi possível separar as sementes das cultivares em diferentes níveis de qualidade fisiológica, destacando-se as cultivares Gigante Jaíba e Comprido grande rio. The objective of the work was to determine the morphological aspects offruits and the physical and physiological quality of the seed of cultivars of jiloeiro (SolanumgiloRaddi). The experiment was carried out at the Laboratory of Production Analysis of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (LAS -ICA / UFMG). As cultivars were the Gigante Jaíba, the Compridogrande river, the Round Morro and the Long Green. Determination of moisture content, fresh and dry mass of fruits and seeds, germination, emergence, normal seedling counting, germination and emergence rate index. The experimental design wascompletely randomized with four replicates. The results were submitted to analysis of variance, thus adopting the 5% probability test. A cultivar Gigante Jaíba stood out for presenting the results of fresh dry mass and mass of one thousand seeds. The testes of germination and vigor were possible as cultivars of cultivars at different levels of physiological quality, standing out as cultivars Gigante Jaíba and Comprido Grande Rio.

Phosphate esters and analogs thereof are well known in chemistry and biology by their formidable stability. We used a porous silica material (PSiM) functionalized with amino groups (8.4%) and lanthanum ions (1.5%) to catalyze the cleavage of bis(2,4-dinitrophenyl)phosphate (BDNPP). The functionalized PSiM attracted the substrate from solution and accelerated its hydrolysis by 38-fold in relation to the uncatalyzed reaction at pH 8.14. After an induction period associated to hydration of the catalyst during the first use, the catalytic activity increased in the first reuse to about 600-fold. Supramolecular effects were proposed to drive the catalytic process. Kinetic studies in different pH's showed that the lanthanum ion and amino groups acted mutually in the BDNPP hydrolysis and a reaction mechanism that took this into account was proposed.

This work reports the use of cellulose-TiO2 hybrids as photocatalysts for hydrogen production from aqueous ethanol solutions under simulated sunlight. The influence of cellulose loading on hybrids incorporated by impregnation was studied. The cellulose-TiO2 hybrids were characterized by elemental analysis (CHNS), thermo-gravimetric (TGA), N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental results show that cellulose loading influence on the physico-chemical properties and on photoactivity of cellulose-TiO2 hybrids for H2 production from ethanol solutions. All hybrids show a significant increase in the H2 production rate respect to that achieved on bare TiO2. The H2 production rate over cellulose-TiO2 hybrids depend on the cellulose coverage on TiO2, achieving the better photoactivity the hybrid formed with intermediate cellulose loading.

With the increasing industrialization, heavy metals concentration in soils has greatly increased. Phytoremediation is a low-cost, non-intrusive and aesthetically harmonious technology that uses plants to remediate contaminated sites by heavy metals. The aim of the study was to determine Cd, Pb and Zn concentration in the biomass of plant species growing on a multi-metal-contaminated site of lead smelter processing, to assess the workability of using these plants for phytoremediation purposes and highlight possible damage in morphological leaf changes. Two plant species, i.e., Ipomoea asarifolia and Urochloa decumbens and the associated soil samples were collected and analyzed Cd, Pb and Zn concentrations and then calculating the bioconcentration factor and translocation factor parameters for each element. Leaves and roots samples were observed by light microscopy. Metal concentrations varied greatly and majorly depend on site sampled, plant species and tissue. Cd, Pb and Zn in tissue ranged from 0 to 102.48, 0 to 381.04 and 12.84 to 295.02 mg Kg−1. However, none of the plant showed potential for hyperaccumulation. Both plants showed bioaccumulation factor more than one, where it was 7.66 and 6.82 for Pb and Zn in U. decumbens, respectively. Translocation factor was calculated below one for both plants and all metals. Morphological studies revealed development of adaptive features that strengthen the U. decumbens to grow in contaminated soil. Our study suggests that I. asarifolia and U. decumbens have potential for phytostabilization at multi-metal-contaminated site.
