Abstract

Recent developments on Bifacial Photovoltaic (PV) modules have captured a significant amount of attention as this technology is becoming more affordable and is able to produce more output compared to the traditional monofacial solar panels, the advantage of this technology comes from its ability to absorb additional irradiance from the rear which the monofacial panel is in capable of. Despite being more affordable and able to produce more power, this technology is still not widely used as there is still many issues in predicting the output of the rear accurately through simulations. The rear irradiance is affected by many factors such as the albedo of the ground, reflectivity of the surrounding surfaces, the height from the ground, the tilt angle and the mounting structure.

Abstract

The Glasgow 'atomistic' simulator was used to perform the 3-D statistical simulations of random-dopant-induced threshold voltage variation in state-of-the-art 35- and 13-nm bulk MOSFETs consisting of statistical samples of [10.sup.5] or more microscopically different transistors. The results showed that the random-dopant-induced threshold voltage distribution is positively skewed with increasing asymmetry as the channel length of the device reduced.

Abstract

1/f noise and random telegraph signal (RTS) noise are increasingly dominant sources of low-frequency noise as the MOSFET enters the nanoscale regime. In this study, 1/f noise and RTS noise in the n-channel MOSFET are modelled in the time domain for efficient implementation in transient circuit simulation. A technique based on sum-of-sinusoids models 1/f noise while a Monte Carlo based technique is used to generate RTS noise. Low-frequency noise generated using these models exhibits the correct form of noise characteristics as predicted by theory, with noise parameters from standard 0.35-[micro]m and 35-nm CMOS technology. Implementation of the time-domain model in SPICE shows the utility of the noisy MOSFET model in simulating the effect of low-frequency noise on the operation of deep-submicrometer analog integrated circuits. Abstract

The intrinsic parameter fluctuations introduced by random discrete dopants, line edge roughness (LER), and oxide-thickness variation in realistic bulk MOSFETs scaled to 25, 18, 13, and 9 nm are studied using three-dimensional statistical numerical simulations. The scaling is based on a 35 nm MOSFET developed by Toshiba, which is also used for the calibration of the atomistic device simulator.

Abstract

The conventional method of diagnosing disorders of the human gastro-intestinal (GI) tract is by sensors embedded in cannulae that are inserted through the anus, mouth, or nose. However, these cannulae cause significant patient discomfort and cannot be used in the small intestine. As a result, there is considerable ongoing work in developing wireless sensors that can be used in the small intestine. The radiation characteristics of sources in the GI tract cannot be readily calculated due to the complexity of the human body and its composite tissues, each with different electrical characteristics. In addition, the compact antennas used are electrically small, making them inefficient radiators. This paper presents radiation characteristics for sources in the GI tract that should allow for the optimum design of more efficient telemetry systems. The characteristics are determined ,using the finite-difference time-domain method with a realistic antenna model on an established fully segmented human body model. Radiation intensity outside the body was found to have a Gaussian-form relationship with frequency. Maximum radiation occurs between 450 and 900 MHz. The gut region was found generally to inhibit vertically polarized electric fields more than horizontally polarized fields.
