The aim of the study is explore the association between serum uric acid (UA) and acute pancreatitis (AP) risk in a Chinese population.We included 124,316 participants who enrolled in the Kailuan cohort from 2006 to 2009. We fitted Cox models to estimate the correlation between UA and AP.During an average follow-up of 11.97 years (standard deviation, 2.16 years), 396 AP developed. The incidence rates from quartile 1 to quartile 4 of AP were 20.76, 18.78, 30.58, and 36.79 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed a significantly increased risk in quartile 3 (hazard ratio [HR], 1.42; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.05-1.91) and quartile 4 (HR, 1.61; 95% CI, 1.19-2.17) compared with quartile 1. The association may be modified by alcohol use (P for interaction = 0.017). The quartile 4 group with excessive alcohol consumption showed an enormously increased risk of AP (HR, 9.09; 95% CI, 1.18-70.21) than those without (HR, 1.46; 95% CI, 1.07-2.00).Elevated serum UA is an independent risk factor for AP. Surveillance of serum UA, especially among heavy drinkers, may be helpful for AP prevention.

Salivary exosomes contain various components and may play important roles in oral diseases. The purpose of this study was to verify the possible function of miR-223-3p from salivary exosomes in periodontitis. We isolated the salivary exosomes and found that the miR-223-3p content of salivary exosomes from periodontitis was less than the healthy control. Furthermore, we performed dual-luciferase reporter assay and real-time PCR to verify that (NOD)-like receptor (NLR) pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) was the target of miR-223-3p. When we knocked down the miR-223-3p expression in THP-1-derived macrophages, the expression of NLRP3 and the downstream inflammatory mediators interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and IL-6 were upregulated. By using integrated bioinformatics analysis, we found that pyroptosis and cytokine secretion participated in inflammatory gingival tissues. In addition, NLRP3, and the pyroptosis executioner, gasdermin D (GSDMD) was highly active in inflammatory gingival tissues compared with healthy controls by western blotting and immunohistochemistry. In summary, we speculated that miR-223-3p in salivary exosomes might regulate GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis by targeting NLRP3 in periodontitis. Detection of miR-223-3p expression in salivary exosomes could be used as an important non-invasive method to diagnose and evaluate the severity of periodontitis.

BACKGROUND Implanted intravenous infusion port (IVAP) is indicated for patients undergoing chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition and long-term antibiotic treatment. Among their complications, the rupture and migration of the catheter of an IVAP via internal jugular vein represents a very rare but potentially severe condition. CASE SUMMARY A 43-year-old woman was identified with a spontaneous fracture and migration of catheter of an IVAP via right internal jugular vein after adjuvant chemotherapy for left breast cancer. A computed tomography showed the fractured catheter of the IVAP in the pulmonary artery. Therefore, we conducted an emergency procedure to remove the catheter fragment by a pigtail catheter combined with a gooseneck trap. CONCLUSION When the fractured catheter of an IVAP was detected, the special shape of the pigtail catheter in combination with the gooseneck trap successfully facilitated the removal of the dislodged catheter.

To investigate the effects of inflammatory microenvironment on proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament cells(PDLCs) in vitro.Human PDLCs were isolated and characterized. MTT was used to investigate the proliferation rate of PDLCs under different concentration of lipopolysaccharide（LPS）. The PDLCs' osteogenic differentiation was investigated using real-time PCR and Western blot. The date were statistically analyzed with SPSS 13.0 software package.Treatment with 0.1 μg/mL LPS increased proliferation of PDLCs and enhanced the expression of osteogenic gene and protein. The proliferation of PDLCs and expression of alkaline phosphatase(ALP), RUNX2, Collagen-I, BMP2 were significantly decreased by 10 μg/mL LPS.The inflammatory microenvironment (10 μg/mL LPS) inhibits the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human PDLCs.

Objective To investigate whether early life exposure to the Great Chinese Famine of 1959-1961 is associated with the risk of RA development in adulthood. Methods This study included 101,510 participants who were enrolled in the Kailuan Study in 2006. RA cases were confirmed by medical record review. Logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for RA according to famine exposure status (exposed in utero or between ages 0 and 3 years, between ages 3 and 6 years, or at age 6 years or older), in comparison to participants born after 1961 who were not exposed to famine. Results During 12 years of follow-up (2006-2018), we identified 187 RA cases. Individuals exposed to famine in utero or between ages 0 and 3 years had a higher prevalence of RA relative to other groups (0.2-0.35% versus 0.08-0.20%). After adjustment for potential confounders, the OR for RA was 2.95 (95% CI 1.55-5.59) for individuals exposed in utero, 4.53 (95% CI 2.72-7.54) for those exposed between ages 0 and 3 years, 2.55 (95% CI 1.43-4.57) for those exposed between ages 3 and 6 years, and 2.72 (95% CI 1.70-4.36) for those exposed at age 6 years or older versus individuals born after 1961. Similar associations with the risk of RA were observed for men and women when subjects were stratified by sex (P for interaction = 0.89). Conclusion Individuals exposed to famine in utero or in early childhood (between ages 0 and 3 years) were more likely to develop RA in adulthood, highlighting the importance of early life as a vulnerable developmental period.

BURP domain-containing proteins are a plant-specific protein family with diverse functions in plant development and response to stress. Overexpression of certain BURP genes were confirmed to improve crop yield or resistance to abiotic stress in multiple plant species. However, detailed expression profiling of BURP genes has never been reported for wood plant. In this study we report the characterization and organ-specific expression profiling of 27 PdPapBURP genes identified in the de novo genome of an important Chinese hybrid poplar cultivar ‘Shanxin yang’ (Populus davidiana × P. alba var. pyramidalis). Constitutive expression profile suggested that 11 BURP genes had important roles in poplar secondary growth, nine were important for root maintenance and seven were specifically active in the young developing tissues of poplar. Organ-specific expression profiling of PdPapBURP genes under each treatment among salt, alkali, desiccation stress, the infecting of five major soil-borne plant fungal pathogens and the inducing of three stress-related plant hormone demonstrated differential regulation pattern of each PdPapBURP gene. Regulation patterns of PdPapBURP gene expression showed highest diversity in poplar root during fungal infection. Comparative motif analysis with previously reported BURP proteins suggested particular importance of the motifs specific to the PG1-β phylogenic subclass for poplar development and short repeated peptide sequences were one of the important structural bases for stress-resistant/stress-responsive functions of BURP proteins. This study is a thorough discovery of BURP genes in hybrid poplar. Our results present important information for understanding the growth and stress-response mechanisms of woody plants involving the BURP genes and provide profound insights into improving woody plant growth and stress/pathogen resistance.

In this perspective, we outline that a space borne gravitational wave detector network combining LISA and Taiji can be used to measure the Hubble constant with an uncertainty less than 0.5% in ten years, compared with the network of the ground based gravitational wave detectors which can measure the Hubble constant within a 2% uncertainty in the next five years by the standard siren method. Taiji is a Chinese space borne gravitational wave detection mission planned for launch in the early 2030 s. The pilot satellite mission Taiji-1 has been launched in August 2019 to verify the feasibility of Taiji. The results of a few technologies tested on Taiji-1 are presented in this paper. Gravitational wave astronomy has opened the door to test general relativity and the effect of gravity in the Universe. The authors present the capabilities of an overlap between space gravitational wave detectors LISA and Taiji to constrain the Hubble constant to 0.5%, in 10 years, and what can be learned from the satellite pilot Taiji-1 launched in 2019.

The demand for high-quality forages is increasing in tropical regions, and could be filled with legume species of the genus Grona, which have good nutritive value. In this study, a comparison of the forage production and nutritive value of 10 accessions of Grona spp. was carried out in the field at Danzhou, Hainan from 2016 to 2018. Yield, plant height, survival rate, leaf:stem ratio and concentrations of crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat (ether extract), nitrogen free extract, crude ash, calcium and phosphorus were measured. Results showed that Grona strigillosa (syn. Desmodium strigillosum) cv. Reyan No. 27 and G. heterocarpa subsp. ovalifolia (syn. Desmodium ovalifolium) cv. Maquenque displayed the best performance, owing to their 261.3% and 235.6% higher dry matter yields, respectively, compared with the Control germplasm, G. heterocarpa subsp. ovalifolia cv. Quantum key distribution (QKD)1,2 has the potential to enable secure communication and information transfer3. In the laboratory, the feasibility of point-to-point QKD is evident from the early proof-of-concept demonstration in the laboratory over 32 centimetres4; this distance was later extended to the 100-kilometre scale5,6 with decoy-state QKD and more recently to the 500-kilometre scale7-10 with measurement-device-independent QKD. Several small-scale QKD networks have also been tested outside the laboratory11-14. However, a global QKD network requires a practically (not just theoretically) secure and reliable QKD network that can be used by a large number of users distributed over a wide area15. Quantum repeaters16,17 could in principle provide a viable option for such a global network, but they cannot be deployed using current technology18. Here we demonstrate an integrated space-to-ground quantum communication network that combines a large-scale fibre network of more than 700 fibre QKD links and two high-speed satellite-to-ground free-space QKD links. Using a trusted relay structure, the fibre network on the ground covers more than 2,000 kilometres, provides practical security against the imperfections of realistic devices, and maintains long-term reliability and stability. The satellite-to-ground QKD achieves an average secret-key rate of 47.8 kilobits per second for a typical satellite pass-more than 40 times higher than achieved previously. Moreover, its channel loss is comparable to that between a geostationary satellite and the ground, making the construction of more versatile and ultralong quantum links via geosynchronous satellites feasible. Finally, by integrating the fibre and free-space QKD links, the QKD network is extended to a remote node more than 2,600 kilometres away, enabling any user in the network to communicate with any other, up to a total distance of 4,600 kilometres.

This paper describes the scientific objectives and payloads of Tianwen-1, China’s first exploration mission to Mars. An orbiter, carrying a lander and a rover, lifted-off in July 2020 for a journey to Mars where it should arrive in February 2021. A suite of 13 scientific payloads, for in-situ and remote sensing, autonomously commanded by integrated payload controllers and mounted on the orbiter and the rover will study the magnetosphere and ionosphere of Mars and the relation with the solar wind, the atmosphere, surface and subsurface of the planet, looking at the topography, composition and structure and in particular for subsurface ice. The mission will also investigate Mars climate history. It is expected that Tianwen-1 will contribute significantly to advance our scientific knowledge of Mars.

Identification of molecular subtypes of clinically resectable triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is of great importance to achieve better clinical outcomes. Inter- and intratumor metabolic heterogeneity improves cancer survival, and the interaction of various metabolic pathways may affect treatment outcome of TNBC. We speculated that TNBC can be categorized into prognostic metabolic subtype according to the expression changes of glycolysis and cholesterol synthesis. The genome, transcriptome, and clinical data were downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas and Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium and subsequently analyzed by integrated bioinformatics methods. Four subtypes, namely, glycolytic, cholesterogenic, quiescent, and mixed, were classified according to the normalized median expressions of the genes involved in glycolysis and cholesterol synthesis. In the four subtypes, the cholesterogenic type was correlated with the shortest median survival (log rank P = 0.044), while patients with high-expressed glycolytic genes tended to have a longer survival. Tumors with PIK3CA amplification and dynein axonemal heavy chain 2 deletion exhibited higher expressions of cholesterogenic genes than other mutant oncogenes. This study explored an infrared/laser dual-mode compound detection mode. To be specific, the infrared system and laser radar were combined in common path, and the target at a far distance can be recognized, tracked and located using infrared-guided laser-detection mode. The combination of the two single-mode detection techniques, namely, infrared passive imaging and laser active detection, can complement their own advantages, thereby achieving the acquisition of multi-dimensional information of the target such as the azimuth angle, the pitch angle, the velocity, and the range. To enhance the laser’s coherent detection efficiency, a piezoelectric-driven double-sided fast-steering mirror was innovatively developed, which realized emission, receiving, and registration of laser with the use of two reflection sides of a mirror. This study proposed the system indexes and overall architecture in accordance with actual application requirements, and developed an infrared/laser compound detection prototype. The pointing range, the scanning velocity of the system, the infrared target detection, and recognition as well as the range and velocity measurement performances of the linear frequency modulation (LFM) continuous wave laser were examined in depth. Finally, an outdoor scaled experiment at a range of 40 m was designed. The experimental results proved that the designed system can meet the expectations in performance.

Emergent symmetry is one of the characteristic phenomena in deconfined quantum critical point (DQCP). As its nonequilibrium generalization, the dual dynamic scaling was recently discovered in the nonequilibrium imaginary-time relaxation dynamics in the DQCP of the $J$-$Q_3$ model. In this work, we study the nonequilibrium imaginary-time relaxation dynamics in the $J$-$Q_2$ model, which also hosts a DQCP belonging to the same equilibrium universality class. We not only verify the universality of the dual dynamic scaling at the critical point, but also investigate the breakdown and the vestige of the dual dynamic scaling when the tuning parameter is away from the critical point. An intermodal-nonlinearity-induced time-frequency evolution model of high-power near-single-mode continuous-wave fiber lasers (NSM-CWHPFLs) was proposed to simulate the evolution of spectral characteristics and beam quality under the combined action of intermodal and intramodal nonlinear effects. The influence of fiber laser parameters on intermodal nonlinearities was analyzed, and a suppression method involving fiber coiling and seed mode characteristic optimization was proposed. Verification experiments were conducted with 20/400, 25/400, and 30/600 fiber-based NSM-CWHPFLs. The results demonstrate the accuracy of the theoretical model, clarify the physical mechanisms of nonlinear spectral sidebands, and demonstrate the comprehensive optimization of intermodal-nonlinearity-induced spectral distortion and mode degradation.
