Abstract

Context. Pluto's tenuous nitrogen (N2) atmosphere undergoes strong seasonal effects due to high obliquity and orbital eccentricity, and has been recently (July 2015) observed by the New Horizons spacecraft. Goals are (i) construct a well calibrated record of the seasonal evolution of surface pressure on Pluto and (ii) constrain the structure of the lower atmosphere using a central flash observed in 2015. Method: eleven stellar occultations by Pluto observed between 2002 and 2016 are used to retrieve atmospheric profiles (density, pressure, temperature) between $\sim$5 km and $\sim$380 km altitude levels (i.e. pressures from about 10 microbar to 10 nanobar). Results: (i) Pressure has suffered a monotonic increase from 1988 to 2016, that is compared to a seasonal volatile transport model, from which tight constraints on a combination of albedo and emissivity of N2 ice are derived; (ii) A central flash observed on 2015 June 29 is consistent with New Horizons REX profiles, provided that (a) large diurnal temperature variations (not expected by current models) occur over Sputnik Planitia and/or (b) hazes with tangential optical depth of about 0.3 are present at 4-7 km altitude levels and/or (c) the nominal REX density values are overestimated by an implausibly large factor of about 20% and/or (d) higher terrains block part of the flash in the Charon facing hemisphere., 21 pages, 11 figures

Abstract

Much of our understanding of gas giant exoplanets come from those transiting in front of bright stars at small orbital separations (P 3 days, a 0.05 au). These hot Jupiters are coupled to their host star: stellar irradiation impacts the chemistry and temperature structure of their atmospheres and tidal interactions affects the orbital dynamics and may even impact the star itself. In contrast, gas giant exoplanets with long orbital periods and large separations (P > 30 days, a > 0.2 au) are much less coupled to their host star and provide ideal benchmarks to study gas giant planets in general. However, only a few transiting "cold Jupiters" orbiting bright stars are known to date. In the past years, we conducted the ASTEP experiment (Antarctica Search for Transiting ExoPlanets) to search and characterize transiting exoplanets from Dome C, Antarctica and to qualify this site for photometry in the visible. One instrument, ASTEP South, is a 10 cm diameter lens equipped with a CCD camera in a thermalised box pointing continuously towards the celestial South pole. We analysed four winters of data collected with this instrument and identified about 30 transit candidates around relatively bright stars (9 < V < 13) with orbital periods up to 80 days. We performed photometric follow-up with the Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) 0.4m telescopes to investigate these signals. Most of these stars are also observed by TESS and their lightcurves can be extracted from the full frame images. In this poster, we present our set of candidates, the first results of the photometric follow-up, and discuss the use of TESS data to investigate these objects.

Abstract

The ASTEP project (Antarctic Search for Transiting ExoPlanets), aims at testing the quality of the Dome C site in Antarctica for photometry in the visible, as well as detecting and characterizing transiting exoplanets. A dedicated telescope, ASTEP400, has been developped and installed at Concordia. The first campaign took place during the winter 2010, and the telescope functionned nominally during all the winter. A first analysis of the data leads to a precision of 189 and 205 ppm for WASP-19 and WASP-18 respectively, for continuous observations during 1 month. This shows that extremely high precision photometry is achievable from Dome C.

Abstract

In the present paper we report the discovery of a new hot Jupiter, EPIC211089792 b, first detected by the Super-WASP observatory and then by the K2 space mission during its campaign 4. The planet has a period of 3.25d, a mass of 0.73 +/- 0.04 Mjup, and a radius of 1.19 +/- 0.02 Rjup. The host star is a relatively bright (V=12.5) G7 dwarf with a nearby K5V companion. Based on stellar rotation and the abundance of Lithium, we find that the system might be as young as about 450 Myr. The observation of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect shows the planet is aligned with respect to the stellar spin. Given the deep transit (20mmag), the magnitude of the star and the presence of a nearby stellar companion, the planet is a good target for both space- and ground-based transmission spectroscopy, in particular in the near-infrared where the both stars are relatively bright., Submitted to ApJ

Abstract

Summary: The erythrodermic ulcerated form of mycosis fungoides (MF) is exceptional, and treatment of refractory cases is challenging. Brentuximab vedotin (BV) is a monoclonal antibody combined with monomethyl auristatin E, recently approved for the treatment of refractory CD30+ cutaneous T‐cell lymphoma. We report a case of refractory MF in a 56‐year‐old man with a long history of large‐plaque parapsoriasis, as revealed by psoriasiform erythroderma, treated initially with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone (CHOP) polychemotherapy, inducing a 2‐year complete response. After relapse, interferon and gemcitabine were unsuccessful. Finally, treatment with BV was decided upon, despite the absence of CD30 expression. After three infusions of BV 1·8 mg kg−1, we achieved a complete and stable response, allowing an allogeneic stem cell transplant. The patient is still in complete remission, 19 months after the graft. This case illustrates the possibility of using BV in refractory CD30–MF as a salvage therapy. Abstract

In this paper we report a new transiting warm giant planet: KOI-1257b. It was first detected in photometry as a planet-candidate by the Kepler space telescope and then validated thanks to a radial velocity follow-up with the SOPHIE spectrograph. It orbits its host star with a period of 86.647661d+/-3s and a high eccentricity of 0.772+/-0.045. The planet transits the main star of a metal-rich, relatively old binary system with stars of mass of 0.99+/-0.05M⊙ and 0.70+/-0.07M⊙ for the primary and secondary, respectively. This binary system is constrained thanks to a self-consistent modelling of the Kepler transit light curve, the SOPHIE radial velocities, line bisector and full-width half maximum (FWHM) variations, and the spectral energy distribution. However, future observations are needed to confirm it. The PASTIS fully-Bayesian software was used to validate the nature of the planet and to determine which star of the binary system is the transit host. By accounting for the dilution from the binary both in photometry and in radial velocity, we find that the planet has a mass of 1.45+/-0.35Mjup, and a radius of 0.94+/-0.12Rjup, and thus a bulk density of 2.1+/-1.2g/cm3. The planet has an equilibrium temperature of 511+/-50K, making it one of the few known members of the warm-Jupiter population. The HARPS-N spectrograph was also used to observe a transit of KOI-1257b, simultaneously with a joint amateur and professional photometric follow-up, with the aim of constraining the orbital obliquity of the planet. However, the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect was not clearly detected, resulting in poor constraints on the orbital obliquity of the planet. (3 data files).
