Na tentativa de prover alternativas para a instabilidade climática da região semi-árida brasileira foi realizado um experimento para avaliar a composição bromatológica e a degradabilidade in situ da matéria seca de leguminosas arbóreas no semi-árido baiano. As leguminosas avaliadas foram Muquem (Albizia polyantha), Tamboril (Enterolobium contortisiliquum) e Leucena (Leucaena leucocephala). Foram coletadas amostras em três florestas do município de Bom Jesus da Lapa, no estado da Bahia, uma amostra composta em cada floresta. Determinaram-se os teores de matéria seca, proteína bruta, fibra em detergente neutro, fibra em detergente ácido, hemicelulose, matéria orgânica, material mineral e a degradabilidade in situ da matéria seca. As plantas estudadas apresentaram em torno de 45% de matéria seca. O teor de proteína bruta das leguminosas Muquem e Leucena, apesar da diferença estatística, foram muito próximos (17,0%). Houve diferença para a qualidade das fibras sendo o menor valor de fibra em detergente neutro observado para a Leucena, seguido do Muquem e Tamboril. A Leucena, durante todo o período de incubação, apresentou maior digestibilidade ruminal seguido do Muquem e do Tamboril. Pode-se concluir que, apesar da superioridade da Leucena, a leguminosa Tamboril, bem como o Muquem, podem ser alternativas para a alimentação de bovinos no ecossistema caatinga.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a influência de diferentes níveis do pedúnculo de caju desidratado na alimentação de vacas mestiças da raça Girolando na produção de leite e perfil hematobioquímico. O experimento foi realizado com oito vacas distribuídas aleatoriamente em um quadrado latino (4 × 4), com tratamentos que consistiram de quatro níveis de suplementação com pedúnculo de caju desidratado (PCD) em dietas de animais, a saber: 0% PCD (dieta controle), 1,0 kg de PCD, 1,5 kg de PCD e 2,0 kg de PCD na matéria seca total. O leite e os animais foram pesados e a condição corporal dos animais foi avaliada durante sete dias em cada período experimental. Para determinar a bioquímica sérica e hemograma das vacas, três amostras de sangue foram colhidas em cada período, aos 7, 14 e 21 dias antes do fornecimento diário de suplementação com amostras de 5 ml de sangue coletadas por punção da veia jugular. A suplementação com 2 kg de PCD reduziu a produção de leite e os níveis de glicose e proteínas totais no plasma em relação ao grupo controle, devido ao nível mais elevado de tanino deste grupo. A suplementação com PCD aumentou a contagem total de eritrócitos, reduziu o volume corpuscular médio (VCM) e não alterou o número de leucócitos. Aumento dos níveis de compostos fenólicos na dieta inibiu a absorção de proteínas na dieta, o que diminuiu a produção de leite.. This paper aims to evaluate the influence of different levels of supplemental product-dehydrated cashew in the feed for crossbred Girolando cows on milk production and hemato-biochemical profile. The experiments were conducted using eight cows that were randomly distributed in a Latin square design (4×4), in which treatments consisted of four supplementation levels with product-dehydrated cashew (PDC) in animal diets, namely: 0% PDC (control diet), 1.0 kg of DCP, 1.5 kg of PDC and 2.0 kg of PDC in total dry matter . The milk and animals were weighed and the body condition of the animals were evaluated within seven days of milk collection during each experimental period. To determine the serum biochemistry and blood count of cows, three blood samples were taken in each period, at 7, 14 and 21 days before the daily supply of supplementation with samples collected from 5 ml of blood by puncturing the jugular vein. Supplementation with 2 kg of PDC reduced milk production and the levels of glucose and total plasma protein compared to the control group, due to the higher level of tannin in this group. Supplementation with PDC raised the total count of the erythrocytes, reduced the mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and non-changed number of leukocytes. Increased levels of phenolic compounds in the diet inhibited the absorption of dietary proteins, which decreased milk production.

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of concentrate supplementation on the ingestive behaviour of grazing ewes. Twelve pregnant pluriparous sheep were used, six of the Santa Ines breed and six of the Morada Nova breed. The supplement was formulated to supply the animals with two feed levels (0.5% and 1.5% of body weight) of nutrition. The experimental design was a randomized 2 x 2 x 2 factorial arrangement (two breeds, two supplementation levels and two feeding shifts, morning and afternoon) with six replicates per treatment, totalling 24 experimental units. Focal sampling was used to record the time spent on the adopted behaviour at 10-minute intervals for 10 continuous hours, with three replications, totalling 180 records per animal. Sampling started at 07:00. Time spent grazing, ruminating and resting did not correlate with the level of concentrate supplementation. It was expected that concentrate supplementation would reflect directly on forage intake owing to the substitution effect, which causes sheep where the supplement supplied a small proportion of net energy requirement, to have a greater grazing intensity. The two breeds differed in the time spent ruminating or lying, with the Santa Ines sheep spending more time in these activities. Greater intensity of grazing and ruminating occurred in the morning, which is directly related to the climatic conditions of the region. Time of day is a factor that imposes limitations on the feeding behaviour patterns of ewes that are supplemented on pasture. Keywords: Breed, Grazing, Morada Nova, Santa Ines, Season

Objetivou-se avaliar o acúmulo de biomassa e o crescimento radicular da palma forrageira (Opuntia ficus indicaMill) em diferentes épocas de colheita. O delineamento estatístico foi inteiramente casualizado com dez tratamentos e três repetições por tratamento. Foi utilizada uma área de 12.100 m² com palma forrageira clone IPA 20. As avaliações procederam-se após 90 dias do estabelecimento da planta no campo, sendo que as demais avaliações foram feitas a cada 45 dias, realizando-as no 90º, 135º, 205º, 252º, 300º, 345º, 390º, 435º, 480º e 525º dias, correspondente aos tratamentos. Em cada período foi avaliado a parte aérea da planta e seu sistema radicular. No 345°dia após o plantio obteve biomassa verde de 2.079,3 g atingindo 1.118,3 g no 435º dia. No período de estiagem, a planta apresentou decréscimo no peso verde, perdendo aproximadamente 50% do seu peso. No 135º dia após o plantio, a raiz da palma atingiu 30 cm de profundidade. Nesse período a densidade radicular foi reduzindo com o aumento da profundidade do solo. De 0,075, 0,056 e 0,0017 mg/cm³ para 10, 20 e 30 cm de profundidade, respectivamente. Na época de colheita de 435 dias, encontrou-se densidade radicular de 0,44, 0,105, 0,065 e 0,048 mg/cm³ para 10, 20, 30 e 40 cm de profundidade, respectivamente. A biomassa seca da palma não se reduziu com o período de estiagem. A biomassa verde da parte aérea e o crescimento horizontal da raiz da palma são influenciados pela ocorrência de precipitação pluviométrica e variam ao longo do ano. A raiz da palma tem maior concentração próxima da planta, podendo atingir 40 cm de profundidade.

The objective was to determine chemical composition and in situ degradability for silages of dual-purpose sorghum hybrids. Twenty-five hybrids of double-purpose sorghum were investigated in a randomized block design with three replicates. Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), pH, chemical composition of the silage and in situ degradability were determined. Silage of the hybrids 9929012, 947216, 947030, 947254, 947072, 947252, 12F042066, 1141570 and 1141562 presented greater dry matter content, ranging from 402.9 to 470.7 g kg-1. The greatest crude protein content was presented by silages from the hybrids 9929036, 9929030, 12F042224, FEPAGRO19, FEPAGRO11, 9929026, 947030, 947072, 947252, 12F042226 and BRS Ponta Negra. The silage of hybrid 1141562 exhibited the lowest neutral detergent fiber content (588 g kg-1). The highest values of dry matter and crude protein degradability were observed in the silages of the hybrids 9929030, 947252, 947072, 12F042066 and 12F042226. The use of ensilage of the 9929030 and 12F042226 hybrids is recommended because these silages present a better chemical composition of dry matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber and better dry matter and crude protein degradability. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different planting densities and phosphorus fertilization on yield, chemical and mineral composition of Pornunça (Manihot sp.) cultivated under rainfed system, from May 2010 to October 2011. It was adopted the randomized blocks design in a factorial 4 x 4 with three replications, 4 spacing (1.5 x 1.5, 1.5 x 2.0, 2.0 x 2.0 and 2, 5 x 2.0 meters) and 4 phosphorus levels (0.0, 56.66, 113.32 and 169.98 g plant-1 superphosphate). The objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic divergence of 25 sorghum hybrids (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) in the semiarid region of Paraiba. A randomized block design with three replications was used for evaluation of plant height (PH), total natural matter production (TNMP) and total dry matter production (TDMP) and the percentage of components of DM (panicle, leaf blade, stem and dead matter) of the following hybrids: 866005, 866019, 866033, 866034, 866035, 866036, 866037, 866040, 866041, 866042, 866043, 866044, 870025, 870031, 870035, 870041, 870051, 870067, 870081, 870085, 870095, 1F305, BRS 610, Volumax, and XBS60329. Hybrid 1F305, followed by hybrid 866034, presented the highest average PH. There was a range from 7.679 to 20.948 kg/ha (average of 13,799 kg/ha) for TDMP. Hybrids 1F305, BRS 610 and Volumax presented less potential, and hybrids 866,041 and 866,042 were the most productive. Based on cluster analysis and subjective cut in 50% of dissimilarity, it was possible to establish four hierarchical groups, from which two stood out concerning productive characteristics. The group formed by hybrids Volumax, BRS 610, and XBS60329 presented lower averages for yield and lower percentage of panicle. Hybrids 866041 and 866042 show a higher total dry matter production, with values around 20,000 kg/ha.
