Abstract

The need to forecast solar irradiation at a specific location over short-time horizons has acquired immense importance. In this paper, we report on analyses results involving statistical and machine learning techniques to predict hourly horizontal solar irradiation at one-hour ahead horizon using data sets from three different cities in the U.S. with different climatic conditions. A simple forecast approach that assumes consecutive days are identical serves as a baseline model against which to compare competing forecast alternatives. One approach is to use seasonal ARIMA models. Surprisingly, such models are found to be poorer than the simple forecast. To account for seasonal variability and capture short-term fluctuations, cloud cover is an obvious variable to consider. Monthly models with cloud cover as regressor were found to outperform the simple forecast model. More sophisticated lagged moving average (LMX) models were also evaluated, and one of the variants, LMX2, identified at monthly time scales, proved to be the best choice. Finally, the LMX2 model is compared against artificial neural network (ANN) models and the latter proved to be more accurate. The companion paper will present algorithms and results of how such models can be used for 4-hr rolling horizon and 24-hr ahead forecasting.

Abstract

Herein, we synthesized some new 4-azaindole-thiazolidine-2,4-dione-1,2,3-triazole hybrids (6a-6n) via Knoevenagel condensation and copper(I) catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) as key approaches. These hybrids were then screened for their in vitro anticancer activity against three human cancer cell lines like MCF-7 (breast), A549 (lung) and HepG2 (hepatocellular) using erlotinib as standard drug. Out of all, compounds 6a, 6k and 6m were found to be more active against all cell lines with IC50 values <18 µM. As well, compounds 6a (IC50 = 0.40 µΜ), 6k (IC50 = 0.29 µΜ) and 6m (IC50 = 0.18 µΜ) showed higher potency ininhibiting tyrosine kinase EGFR than the erlotinib (IC50 = 0.41 µΜ). Further, molecular dockingof compounds 6a, 6k and 6 m on EGFR protein revealed that they have good binding energies with the target protein (−9.96 kcal/mol, −9.92 kcal/mol and −10.37 kcal/mol respectively) which were found to be supportive with the corresponding in vitro activities data. Abstract

Today's industries need to be more productive, especially those that shape and machine materials. As a result, engineers and scientists are seeking for cutting tool materials and technologies that have high hot hardness, chemical stability, wear resistance, and toughness while also improving tool life or contact time. Cryogenic treatment of cutting tools has been proven to be a good way for increasing the contact time of any cutting tool material. This study presents the results of turning alloy steel (EN24 grade) using P20 grade carbide inserts under various conditions under continuous machining. Cutting speeds varied from 100 to 500 m/min (in increments of 100 m/min), with feed rates ranging from 0.1 to 0.4 mm/rev in stages of 0.1 mm/rev and a constant radial depth of cut of 1.5 mm were considered under dry machining conditions. Cryogenic treated/coated inserts are better than other inserts in terms of tool life for optimized parameters such as cutting speed 100 m/min, feed rate 0.1 mm/rev, and depth of cut 1.5 mm, according to the study's findings. Under similar conditions of cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, coated/cryotreated inserts had a tool life increase of about 97.5% over uncoated/untreated inserts, a 50.58% increase over uncoated/crytreated inserts, and a 23.89% increase over coated and untreated inserts, respectively.
