Large language models (LLMs) have revolutionised numerous fields, with LLM-as-a-service (LLMSaaS) having a strong generalisation ability that offers accessible solutions directly without the need for costly training. In contrast to the widely studied prompt engineering for task solving directly (in vivo), this paper explores its potential in in-vitro applications. These involve using LLM to generate labels to help the supervised training of mainstream models by (1) noisy label correction and (2) training data augmentation with LLM-generated labels. In this paper, we evaluate this approach in the emerging field of empathy computing -- automating the prediction of psychological questionnaire outcomes from inputs like text sequences. Specifically, crowdsourced datasets in this domain often suffer from noisy labels that misrepresent underlying empathy. By leveraging LLM-generated labels to train pre-trained language models (PLMs) like RoBERTa, we achieve statistically significant accuracy improvements over baselines, achieving a state-of-the-art Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.648 on NewsEmp benchmarks. In addition, we bring insightful discussions, including current challenges in empathy computing, data biases in training data and evaluation metric selection. Fock states of the quantum harmonic oscillator are fundamental to quantum sensing and information processing, serving as key resources for exploiting bosonic degrees of freedom. Here, we prepare high Fock states in a high-overtone bulk acoustic wave resonator (HBAR) by coupling it to a superconducting qubit and applying microwave pulses designed using quantum optimal control. We characterize the experimentally realized states by employing a criterion for genuine quantum non-Gaussianity (QNG) designed to reveal multiphonon contributions. Although energy relaxation and decoherence limit the achievable fidelities, we demonstrate genuine QNG features compatible with Fock state $\vert 6\rangle$, confirming that the prepared states cannot be generated through Gaussian operations on states with up to Fock state $\vert 5\rangle$ contributions. We further investigate the robustness of these QNG features to losses and their utility in sensing displacement amplitudes. In particular, we introduce a hierarchy based on the quantum Fisher information and show that, despite decoherence and measurement imperfections, the prepared states achieve a displacement sensitivity surpassing that of an ideal Fock state $\vert 3\rangle$. Our results have immediate applications in quantum sensing and simulations with HBAR devices.

The increasing cybersecurity threats to critical manufacturing infrastructure necessitate proactive strategies for vulnerability identification, classification, and assessment. Traditional approaches, which define vulnerabilities as weaknesses in computational logic or information systems, often overlook the physical and cyber-physical dimensions critical to manufacturing systems, comprising intertwined cyber, physical, and human elements. As a result, existing solutions fall short in addressing the complex, domain-specific vulnerabilities of manufacturing environments. To bridge this gap, this work redefines vulnerabilities in the manufacturing context by introducing a novel characterization based on the duality between vulnerabilities and defenses. Vulnerabilities are conceptualized as exploitable gaps within various defense layers, enabling a structured investigation of manufacturing systems. This paper presents a manufacturing-specific cyber-physical defense-in-depth model, highlighting how security-aware personnel, post-production inspection systems, and process monitoring approaches can complement traditional cyber defenses to enhance system resilience. Leveraging this model, we systematically identify and classify vulnerabilities across the manufacturing cyberspace, human element, post-production inspection systems, production process monitoring, and organizational policies and procedures. This comprehensive classification introduces the first taxonomy of cyber-physical vulnerabilities in smart manufacturing systems, providing practitioners with a structured framework for addressing vulnerabilities at both the system and process levels. This paper introduces the Adaptive Context-Aware Multi-Path Transmission Control Protocol (ACMPTCP), an efficient approach designed to optimize the performance of Multi-Path Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) for data-intensive applications such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) streaming. ACMPTCP addresses the limitations of conventional MPTCP by leveraging deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for agile end-to-end path management and optimal bandwidth allocation, facilitating path realignment across diverse network environments.

Reinforcement learning (RL) has shown great promise in simulated environments, such as games, where failures have minimal consequences. However, the deployment of RL agents in real-world systems such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, UAVs, and medical devices demands a higher level of safety and transparency, particularly when facing adversarial threats. Safe RL algorithms have been developed to address these concerns by optimizing both task performance and safety constraints. However, errors are inevitable, and when they occur, it is essential that the RL agents can also explain their actions to human operators. This makes trust in the safety mechanisms of RL systems crucial for effective deployment. Explainability plays a key role in building this trust by providing clear, actionable insights into the agent's decision-making process, ensuring that safety-critical decisions are well understood. While machine learning (ML) has seen significant advances in interpretability and visualization, explainability methods for RL remain limited. Current tools fail to address the dynamic, sequential nature of RL and its needs to balance task performance with safety constraints over time. The re-purposing of traditional ML methods, such as saliency maps, is inadequate for safety-critical RL applications where mistakes can result in severe consequences. To bridge this gap, we propose xSRL, a framework that integrates both local and global explanations to provide a comprehensive understanding of RL agents' behavior. xSRL also enables developers to identify policy vulnerabilities through adversarial attacks, offering tools to debug and patch agents without retraining. Our experiments and user studies demonstrate xSRL's effectiveness in increasing safety in RL systems, making them more reliable and trustworthy for real-world deployment. People exhibit unique emotional responses. In the same scenario, the emotional reactions of two individuals can be either similar or vastly different. For instance, consider one person's reaction to an invitation to smoke versus another person's response to a query about their sleep quality. The identification of these individual traits through the observation of common physical parameters opens the door to a wide range of applications, including psychological analysis, criminology, disease prediction, addiction control, and more. While there has been previous research in the fields of psychometrics, inertial sensors, computer vision, and audio analysis, this paper introduces a novel technique for identifying human traits in real time using brainwave data. To achieve this, we begin with an extensive study of brainwave data collected from 80 participants using a portable EEG headset. We also conduct a statistical analysis of the collected data utilizing box plots. Our analysis uncovers several new insights, leading us to a groundbreaking unified approach for identifying diverse human traits by leveraging machine learning techniques on EEG data. Our analysis demonstrates that this proposed solution achieves high accuracy. Moreover, we explore two deep-learning models to compare the performance of our solution. Consequently, we have developed an integrated, real-time trait identification solution using EEG data, based on the insights from our analysis. To validate our approach, we conducted a rigorous user evaluation with an additional 20 participants. Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown significant potential in automating software engineering tasks, particularly in code generation. However, current evaluation benchmarks, which primarily focus on accuracy, fall short in assessing the quality of the code generated by these models, specifically their tendency to produce code smells. To address this limitation, we introduce CodeSmellEval, a benchmark designed to evaluate the propensity of LLMs for generating code smells. Our benchmark includes a novel metric: Propensity Smelly Score (PSC), and a curated dataset of method-level code smells: CodeSmellData. To demonstrate the use of CodeSmellEval, we conducted a case study with two state-of-the-art LLMs, CodeLlama and Mistral. The results reveal that both models tend to generate code smells, such as simplifiable-condition and consider-merging-isinstance. These findings highlight the effectiveness of our benchmark in evaluating LLMs, providing valuable insights into their reliability and their propensity to introduce code smells in code generation tasks.

Early management and better clinical outcomes for epileptic patients depend on seizure prediction. The accuracy and false alarm rates of existing systems are often compromised by their dependence on static thresholds and basic Electroencephalogram (EEG) properties. A novel Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)-based method for seizure start prediction is proposed in the article to overcome these limitations. As opposed to conventional techniques, the proposed system makes use of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to extract temporal correlations from unprocessed EEG data. It enables the system to adapt dynamically to the unique EEG patterns of each patient, improving prediction accuracy. The methodology of the system comprises thorough data collecting, preprocessing, and LSTM-based feature extraction. Annotated EEG datasets are then used for model training and validation. Results show a considerable reduction in false alarm rates (average of 6.8%) and an improvement in prediction accuracy (90.2% sensitivity, 88.9% specificity, and AUC-ROC of 93). Additionally, computational efficiency is significantly higher than that of existing systems (12 ms processing time, 45 MB memory consumption). About improving seizure prediction reliability, these results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed RNN-based strategy, opening up possibilities for its practical application to improve epilepsy treatment.

Retrieval from graph data is crucial for augmenting large language models (LLM) with both open-domain knowledge and private enterprise data, and it is also a key component in the recent GraphRAG system (edge et al., 2024). Despite decades of research on knowledge graphs and knowledge base question answering, leading LLM frameworks (e.g. Langchain and LlamaIndex) have only minimal support for retrieval from modern encyclopedic knowledge graphs like Wikidata. In this paper, we analyze the root cause and suggest that modern RDF knowledge graphs (e.g. Wikidata, Freebase) are less efficient for LLMs due to overly large schemas that far exceed the typical LLM context window, use of resource identifiers, overlapping relation types and lack of normalization. As a solution, we propose property graph views on top of the underlying RDF graph that can be efficiently queried by LLMs using Cypher. We instantiated this idea on Wikidata and introduced CypherBench, the first benchmark with 11 large-scale, multi-domain property graphs with 7.8 million entities and over 10,000 questions. To achieve this, we tackled several key challenges, including developing an RDF-to-property graph conversion engine, creating a systematic pipeline for text-to-Cypher task generation, and designing new evaluation metrics.

With advances in foundational and vision-language models, and effective fine-tuning techniques, a large number of both general and special-purpose models have been developed for a variety of visual tasks. Despite the flexibility and accessibility of these models, no single model is able to handle all tasks and/or applications that may be envisioned by potential users. Recent approaches, such as visual programming and multimodal LLMs with integrated tools aim to tackle complex visual tasks, by way of program synthesis. However, such approaches overlook user constraints (e.g., performance / computational needs), produce test-time sample-specific solutions that are difficult to deploy, and, sometimes, require low-level instructions that maybe beyond the abilities of a naive user. To address these limitations, we introduce MMFactory, a universal framework that includes model and metrics routing components, acting like a solution search engine across various available models. Based on a task description and few sample input-output pairs and (optionally) resource and/or performance constraints, MMFactory can suggest a diverse pool of programmatic solutions by instantiating and combining visio-lingual tools from its model repository. In addition to synthesizing these solutions, MMFactory also proposes metrics and benchmarks performance / resource characteristics, allowing users to pick a solution that meets their unique design constraints. From the technical perspective, we also introduced a committee-based solution proposer that leverages multi-agent LLM conversation to generate executable, diverse, universal, and robust solutions for the user. Experimental results show that MMFactory outperforms existing methods by delivering state-of-the-art solutions tailored to user problem specifications. We implement a network-based approach to study expertise in a complex real-world task: operating particle accelerators. Most real-world tasks we learn and perform (e.g., driving cars, operating complex machines, solving mathematical problems) are difficult to learn because they are complex, and the best strategies are difficult to find from many possibilities. However, how we learn such complex tasks remains a partially solved mystery, as we cannot explain how the strategies evolve with practice due to the difficulties of collecting and modeling complex behavioral data. As complex tasks are generally networks of many elementary subtasks, we model task performance as networks or graphs of subtasks and investigate how the networks change with expertise. We develop the networks by processing the text in a large archive of operator logs from 14 years of operations using natural language processing and machine learning. The network changes are examined using a set of measures at four levels of granularity - individual subtasks, interconnections among subtasks, groups of subtasks, and the whole complex task. We find that the operators consistently change with expertise at the subtask, the interconnection, and the whole-task levels, but they show remarkable similarity in how subtasks are grouped. These results indicate that the operators of all stages of expertise adopt a common divide-and-conquer approach by breaking the complex task into parts of manageable complexity, but they differ in the frequency and structure of nested subtasks. Operational logs are common data sources from real-world settings where people collaborate with hardware and software environments to execute complex tasks, and the network models investigated in this study can be expanded to accommodate multi-modal data. Therefore, our network-based approach provides a practical way to investigate expertise in the real world.

In high-risk environments where unlawful surveillance is prevalent, securing confidential communications is critical. This study introduces a novel steganographic game-theoretic model to analyze the strategic interactions between a defending company and an adversary. By framing the scenario as a non-cooperative game, there is systematic evaluation of optimal strategies for both parties, incorporating costs and benefits such as implementation expenses, potential data leaks, and operational advantages. The derived equilibrium probabilities enable the assessment of success rates, illustrating conditions under which the company benefits from hiding messages or faces increased risks when not implementing steganography. Sensitivity analysis explores how changes in key parameters impact these strategies, enhancing the understanding of decision-making in secure communications. Furthermore, the introduction of an adversary model that quantifies the adversary's advantage using conditional probabilities derived from success rates allows for a quantitative measure of the adversary's effectiveness based on the defender's strategies. By integrating the adversary's advantage into a novel risk analysis framework and employing Monte Carlo simulations, dynamic interactions are captured across advantage scenarios, considering factors like impact factor, steganography effectiveness, and equilibrium probabilities. Human behavior and interactions are profoundly influenced by visual stimuli present in their surroundings. This influence extends to various aspects of life, notably food consumption and selection. In our study, we employed various models to extract different attributes from the environmental images. Specifically, we identify five key attributes and employ an ensemble model IMVB7 based on five distinct models for some of their detection resulted 0.85 mark. In addition, we conducted surveys to discern patterns in food preferences in response to visual stimuli. Leveraging the insights gleaned from these surveys, we formulate recommendations using decision tree for dishes based on the amalgamation of identified attributes resulted IMVB7t 0.96 mark. Addressing the growing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics requires new computing approaches. In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable hardware accelerator designed specifically for AI and data-intensive applications. Our architecture features a messaging-based intelligent computing scheme that allows for dynamic programming at runtime using a minimal instruction set. To assess our hardware's effectiveness, we conducted a case study in TSMC 28nm technology node. The simulation-based study involved analyzing a protein network using the computationally demanding PageRank algorithm. The results demonstrate that our hardware can analyze a 5,000-node protein network in just 213.6 milliseconds over 100 iterations. These outcomes signify the potential of our design to achieve cutting-edge performance in next-generation AI applications.

We consider a massive vector Boson in a static patch of $D$-dimensional de Sitter space (dS$_D$). We argue that this field is controlled by an effective physical (squared) mass $\mu_{\mathrm{v}}^2 = m_{\mathrm{v}}^2 + 2(D-1)\ell_{\mathrm{dS}}^{-2}$ which differs from the naive "Lagrangian" (squared) mass $m_{\mathrm{v}}^2$ that appears in the usual form of the Proca Lagrangian/action. In particular, we conjecture that the theory remains well-defined in the naively tachyonic Lagrangian mass range $-2(D-1) < m_{\mathrm{v}}^2\ell_{\mathrm{dS}}^2 < 0$. We identify several interesting physical features of the "edge of stability" $m_{\mathrm{v}}^2\ell_{\mathrm{dS}}^2 = -2(D-1)$. Fixing a static patch breaks the $D$-dimensional de Sitter isometries down to a "static patch subgroup", which explains why our theory may continue to be well-defined in the above mass range despite not fitting into a unitary irreducible representation of SO$(D,1)$. We conjecture that for situations such as ours, the usual $\mathrm{SO}(D,1)$ "Higuchi bound" on unitarity is replaced by the concept of the edge of stability. In $D = 3$ spacetime dimensions, the $s$-wave sector of our theory remarkably simplifies, becoming equivalent to the $p$-wave sector of an ordinary massive scalar. In this case we can explicitly check that the $D = 3$ $s$-wave sector remains well-defined -- both classically and quantum mechanically -- in the above mass range. In the course of our analysis, we will derive the general classical solution and the quasinormal frequency spectrum for the massive vector Boson in the static patch of dS$_D$, generalizing previous work by Higuchi [1], which was done for the special case $D = 4$. In an era where digital security is crucial, efficient processing of security-related inquiries through supply chain security questionnaires is imperative. This paper introduces a novel approach using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to automate these responses. We developed QuestSecure, a system that interprets diverse document formats and generates precise responses by integrating large language models (LLMs) with an advanced retrieval system. Our experiments show that QuestSecure significantly improves response accuracy and operational efficiency. By employing advanced NLP techniques and tailored retrieval mechanisms, the system consistently produces contextually relevant and semantically rich responses, reducing cognitive load on security teams and minimizing potential errors. This research offers promising avenues for automating complex security management tasks, enhancing organizational security processes.

Text compression shrinks textual data while keeping crucial information, eradicating constraints on storage, bandwidth, and computational efficacy. The integration of lossless compression techniques with transformer-based text decompression has received negligible attention, despite the increasing volume of English text data in communication. The primary barrier in advancing text compression and restoration involves optimizing transformer-based approaches with efficient pre-processing and integrating lossless compression algorithms, that remained unresolved in the prior attempts. Here, we propose a transformer-based method named RejuvenateForme for text decompression, addressing prior issues by harnessing a new pre-processing technique and a lossless compression method. Our meticulous pre-processing technique incorporating the Lempel-Ziv-Welch algorithm achieves compression ratios of 12.57, 13.38, and 11.42 on the BookCorpus, EN-DE, and EN-FR corpora, thus showing state-of-the-art compression ratios compared to other deep learning and traditional approaches. Furthermore, the RejuvenateForme achieves a BLEU score of 27.31, 25.78, and 50.45 on the EN-DE, EN-FR, and BookCorpus corpora, showcasing its comprehensive efficacy. In contrast, the pre-trained T5-Small exhibits better performance over prior state-of-the-art models.

Vision transformers (ViTs) have dominated computer vision in recent years. However, ViTs are computationally expensive and not well suited for mobile devices; this led to the prevalence of convolutional neural network (CNN) and ViT-based hybrid models for mobile vision applications. Recently, Vision GNN (ViG) and CNN hybrid models have also been proposed for mobile vision tasks. However, all of these methods remain slower compared to pure CNN-based models. In this work, we propose Multi-Level Dilated Convolutions to devise a purely CNN-based mobile backbone. Using Multi-Level Dilated Convolutions allows for a larger theoretical receptive field than standard convolutions. Different levels of dilation also allow for interactions between the short-range and long-range features in an image. Experiments show that our proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) mobile CNN, ViT, ViG, and hybrid architectures in terms of accuracy and/or speed on image classification, object detection, instance segmentation, and semantic segmentation. Our fastest model, RapidNet-Ti, achieves 76.3\% top-1 accuracy on ImageNet-1K with 0.9 ms inference latency on an iPhone 13 mini NPU, which is faster and more accurate than MobileNetV2x1.4 (74.7\% top-1 with 1.0 ms latency). Due to more population congestion and car ownership, the provision of parking spaces for vehicles is becoming a crucial factor. This paper aims to present a novel Internet of Things (IoT)--based smart car parking system that can effectively manage these problems with the help of sensor technology and automation. Infrared (IR) sensors, DHT22 sensors, MQ-2 gas sensors, and servo motors are used in the parking space. An OLED display shows the status of parking slots in real-time. Communicating with a mobile application through the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol enables the efficient exchange of data. As a result, this innovative solution optimizes parking space, increases efficiency, and makes the parking lot more comfortable. This IoT system allows real-time monitoring and automation of parked cars as well as fast response to dynamic changes in environmental conditions, setting a new standard for smart parking systems.

Semantic location prediction from multimodal social media posts is a critical task with applications in personalized services and human mobility analysis. This paper introduces \textit{Contextualized Vision-Language Alignment (CoVLA)}, a discriminative framework designed to address the challenges of contextual ambiguity and modality discrepancy inherent in this task. CoVLA leverages a Contextual Alignment Module (CAM) to enhance cross-modal feature alignment and a Cross-modal Fusion Module (CMF) to dynamically integrate textual and visual information. Extensive experiments on a benchmark dataset demonstrate that CoVLA significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving improvements of 2.3\% in accuracy and 2.5\% in F1-score. Ablation studies validate the contributions of CAM and CMF, while human evaluations highlight the contextual relevance of the predictions. Additionally, robustness analysis shows that CoVLA maintains high performance under noisy conditions, making it a reliable solution for real-world applications. These results underscore the potential of CoVLA in advancing semantic location prediction research.

The increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within cybersecurity has necessitated stronger encryption methods to ensure data security. This paper presents a comparative analysis of symmetric (SE) and asymmetric encryption (AE) algorithms, focusing on their role in securing sensitive information in AI-driven environments. Through an in-depth study of various encryption algorithms such as AES, RSA, and others, this research evaluates the efficiency, complexity, and security of these algorithms within modern cybersecurity frameworks. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative analysis, this research explores the historical evolution of encryption algorithms and their growing relevance in AI applications. The comparison of SE and AE algorithms focuses on key factors such as processing speed, scalability, and security resilience in the face of evolving threats. Special attention is given to how these algorithms are integrated into AI systems and how they manage the challenges posed by large-scale data processing in multi-agent environments. Our results highlight that while SE algorithms demonstrate high-speed performance and lower computational demands, AE algorithms provide superior security, particularly in scenarios requiring enhanced encryption for AI-based networks. Time-series foundation models have the ability to run inference, mainly forecasting, on any type of time series data, thanks to the informative representations comprising waveform features. Wearable sensing data, on the other hand, contain more variability in both patterns and frequency bands of interest and generally emphasize more on the ability to infer healthcare-related outcomes. The main challenge of crafting a foundation model for wearable sensing physiological signals is to learn generalizable representations that support efficient adaptation across heterogeneous sensing configurations and applications. In this work, we propose NormWear, a step toward such a foundation model, aiming to extract generalized and informative wearable sensing representations. NormWear has been pretrained on a large set of physiological signals, including PPG, ECG, EEG, GSR, and IMU, from various public resources. For a holistic assessment, we perform downstream evaluation on 11 public wearable sensing datasets, spanning 18 applications in the areas of mental health, body state inference, biomarker estimations, and disease risk evaluations. We demonstrate that NormWear achieves a better performance improvement over competitive baselines in general time series foundation modeling. In addition, leveraging a novel representation-alignment-match-based method, we align physiological signals embeddings with text embeddings. This alignment enables our proposed foundation model to perform zero-shot inference, allowing it to generalize to previously unseen wearable signal-based health applications. Finally, we perform nonlinear dynamic analysis on the waveform features extracted by the model at each intermediate layer. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) represents a significant global health challenge, characterized by the progressive decline in renal function, leading to the accumulation of waste products and disruptions in fluid balance within the body. Given its pervasive impact on public health, there is a pressing need for effective diagnostic tools to enable timely intervention. Our study delves into the application of cutting-edge transfer learning models for the early detection of CKD. Leveraging a comprehensive and publicly available dataset, we meticulously evaluate the performance of several state-of-the-art models, including EfficientNetV2, InceptionNetV2, MobileNetV2, and the Vision Transformer (ViT) technique. Remarkably, our analysis demonstrates superior accuracy rates, surpassing the 90% threshold with MobileNetV2 and achieving 91.5% accuracy with ViT. Moreover, to enhance predictive capabilities further, we integrate these individual methodologies through ensemble modeling, resulting in our ensemble model exhibiting a remarkable 96% accuracy in the early detection of CKD. This significant advancement holds immense promise for improving clinical outcomes and underscores the critical role of machine learning in addressing complex medical challenges.

Knee osteoporosis weakens the bone tissue in the knee joint, increasing fracture risk. Early detection through X-ray images enables timely intervention and improved patient outcomes. While some researchers have focused on diagnosing knee osteoporosis through manual radiology evaluation and traditional machine learning using hand-crafted features, these methods often struggle with performance and efficiency due to reliance on manual feature extraction and subjective interpretation. In this study, we propose a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for knee osteoporosis, combining transfer learning with stacked feature enhancement deep learning blocks. Initially, knee X-ray images are preprocessed, and features are extracted using a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). These features are then enhanced through five sequential Conv-RELU-MaxPooling blocks. The Conv2D layers detect low-level features, while the ReLU activations introduce non-linearity, allowing the network to learn complex patterns. MaxPooling layers down-sample the features, retaining the most important spatial information. This sequential processing enables the model to capture complex, high-level features related to bone structure, joint deformation, and osteoporotic markers. The enhanced features are passed through a classification module to differentiate between healthy and osteoporotic knee conditions. Extensive experiments on three individual datasets and a combined dataset demonstrate that our model achieves 97.32%, 98.24%, 97.27%, and 98.00% accuracy for OKX Kaggle Binary, KXO-Mendeley Multi-Class, OKX Kaggle Multi-Class, and the combined dataset, respectively, showing an improvement of around 2% over existing methods.

Frames Per Second (FPS) significantly affects the gaming experience. Providing players with accurate FPS estimates prior to purchase benefits both players and game developers. However, we have a limited understanding of how to predict a game's FPS performance on a specific device. In this paper, we first conduct a comprehensive analysis of a wide range of factors that may affect game FPS on a global-scale dataset to identify the determinants of FPS. This includes player-side and game-side characteristics, as well as country-level socio-economic statistics. Furthermore, recognizing that accurate FPS predictions require extensive user data, which raises privacy concerns, we propose a federated learning-based model to ensure user privacy. Each player and game is assigned a unique learnable knowledge kernel that gradually extracts latent features for improved accuracy. We also introduce a novel training and prediction scheme that allows these kernels to be dynamically plug-and-play, effectively addressing cold start issues. To train this model with minimal bias, we collected a large telemetry dataset from 224 countries and regions, 100,000 users, and 835 games. Event cameras provide a compelling alternative to traditional frame-based sensors, capturing dynamic scenes with high temporal resolution and low latency. Moving objects trigger events with precise timestamps along their trajectory, enabling smooth continuous-time estimation. However, few works have attempted to optimize the information loss during event representation construction, imposing a ceiling on this task. Fully exploiting event cameras requires representations that simultaneously preserve fine-grained temporal information, stable and characteristic 2D visual features, and temporally consistent information density, an unmet challenge in existing representations. We introduce Labits: Layered Bidirectional Time Surfaces, a simple yet elegant representation designed to retain all these features. Additionally, we propose a dedicated module for extracting active pixel local optical flow (APLOF), significantly boosting the performance. Our approach achieves an impressive 49% reduction in trajectory end-point error (TEPE) compared to the previous state-of-the-art on the MultiFlow dataset. In recent years, there has been growing interest in leveraging machine learning for homeless service assignment. However, the categorical nature of administrative data recorded for homeless individuals hinders the development of accurate machine learning methods for this task. This work asserts that deriving latent representations of such features, while at the same time leveraging underlying relationships between instances is crucial in algorithmically enhancing the existing assignment decision-making process. Our proposed approach learns temporal and functional relationships between services from historical data, as well as unobserved but relevant relationships between individuals to generate features that significantly improve the prediction of the next service assignment compared to the state-of-the-art.

Emergency communication systems face disruptions due to packet loss, bandwidth constraints, poor signal quality, delays, and jitter in VoIP systems, leading to degraded real-time service quality. Victims in distress often struggle to convey critical information due to panic, speech disorders, and background noise, further complicating dispatchers' ability to assess situations accurately. Staffing shortages in emergency centers exacerbate delays in coordination and assistance. This paper proposes leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to address these challenges by reconstructing incomplete speech, filling contextual gaps, and prioritizing calls based on severity. The system integrates real-time transcription with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to generate contextual responses, using Twilio and AssemblyAI APIs for seamless implementation. We present our work on leveraging low-frame-rate monochrome (blue light) videos of fingertips, captured with an off-the-shelf fingerprint capture device, to extract vital signs and identify users. These videos utilize photoplethysmography (PPG), commonly used to measure vital signs like heart rate. While prior research predominantly utilizes high-frame-rate, multi-wavelength PPG sensors (e.g., infrared, red, or RGB), our preliminary findings demonstrate that both user identification and vital sign extraction are achievable with the low-frame-rate data we collected. Preliminary results are promising, with low error rates for both heart rate estimation and user authentication. These results indicate promise for effective biometric systems. Phase-sensitive integrated photonic devices are highly susceptible to minor manufacturing deviations, resulting in significant performance inconsistencies. This variability has limited the scalability and widespread adoption of these devices. Here, a major advancement is achieved through continuous-wave (CW) visible light (405 nm and 520 nm) trimming of plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) silicon-rich nitride (SRN) waveguides. The demonstrated method achieves precise, bidirectional refractive index tuning with a single laser source in CMOS-compatible SRN samples with refractive indices of 2.4 and 2.9 (measured at 1550 nm). By utilizing a cost-effective setup for real-time resonance tracking in micro-ring resonators, the resonant wavelength shifts as fine as 10 pm are attained. Additionally, a record red shift of 49.1 nm and a substantial blue shift of 10.6 nm are demonstrated, corresponding to refractive index changes of approximately 0.11 and -0.02. The blue and red shifts are both conclusively attributed to thermal annealing. Hard probe tomography of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in heavy ion collisions has long been a preeminent goal of the high-energy nuclear physics program. In service of this goal, the isotropic modification of jets and high-energy hadrons has been studied in great detail at the leading-power (eikonal) level, with effects originating from sub-eikonal $\mathcal{O}(\mu/E)$ anisotropic interactions presumed to be small. We present the first investigation of sub-eikonal, collective-flow-induced asymmetric jet broadening (jet drift) in event-by-event $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV PbPb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider using the new Anisotropic Parton Evolution (APE) computational framework. We show that jet drift imparts a sizeable enhancement of elliptic flow ($v_2$) and increases the mean acoplanarity for low and intermediate energy particles ($p_T < 10$ GeV). Importantly, these novel modifications to hard probe observables are shown to survive averaging over events and collision geometry. They couple to the collective flow of the medium seen by the jet and encode information about the QGP dynamics inaccessible to studies considering only isotropic, eikonal level effects., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

In the evolving landscape of machine learning (ML), Federated Learning (FL) presents a paradigm shift towards decentralized model training while preserving user data privacy. This paper introduces the concept of ``privacy drift", an innovative framework that parallels the well-known phenomenon of concept drift. While concept drift addresses the variability in model accuracy over time due to changes in the data, privacy drift encapsulates the variation in the leakage of private information as models undergo incremental training. By defining and examining privacy drift, this study aims to unveil the nuanced relationship between the evolution of model performance and the integrity of data privacy. Through rigorous experimentation, we investigate the dynamics of privacy drift in FL systems, focusing on how model updates and data distribution shifts influence the susceptibility of models to privacy attacks, such as membership inference attacks (MIA). Our results highlight a complex interplay between model accuracy and privacy safeguards, revealing that enhancements in model performance can lead to increased privacy risks. We provide empirical evidence from experiments on customized datasets derived from CIFAR-100 (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, 100 classes), showcasing the impact of data and concept drift on privacy. This project aims to develop a robust video surveillance system, which can segment videos into smaller clips based on the detection of activities. It uses CCTV footage, for example, to record only major events-like the appearance of a person or a thief-so that storage is optimized and digital searches are easier. It utilizes the latest techniques in object detection and tracking, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) like YOLO, SSD, and Faster R-CNN, as well as Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Long Short-Term Memory networks (LSTMs), to achieve high accuracy in detection and capture temporal dependencies. The approach incorporates adaptive background modeling through Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) and optical flow methods like Lucas-Kanade to detect motions. Multi-scale and contextual analysis are used to improve detection across different object sizes and environments. A hybrid motion segmentation strategy combines statistical and deep learning models to manage complex movements, while optimizations for real-time processing ensure efficient computation. Tracking methods, such as Kalman Filters and Siamese networks, are employed to maintain smooth tracking even in cases of occlusion. Detection is improved on various-sized objects for multiple scenarios by multi-scale and contextual analysis. Results demonstrate high precision and recall in detecting and tracking objects, with significant improvements in processing times and accuracy due to real-time optimizations and illumination-invariant features. X-ray computed tomography (XCT) is a key tool in non-destructive evaluation of additively manufactured (AM) parts, allowing for internal inspection and defect detection. Despite its widespread use, obtaining high-resolution CT scans can be extremely time consuming. This issue can be mitigated by performing scans at lower resolutions; however, reducing the resolution compromises spatial detail, limiting the accuracy of defect detection. Super-resolution algorithms offer a promising solution for overcoming resolution limitations in XCT reconstructions of AM parts, enabling more accurate detection of defects. While 2D super-resolution methods have demonstrated state-of-the-art performance on natural images, they tend to under-perform when directly applied to XCT slices. On the other hand, 3D super-resolution methods are computationally expensive, making them infeasible for large-scale applications. To address these challenges, we propose a 2.5D super-resolution approach tailored for XCT of AM parts. Our method enhances the resolution of individual slices by leveraging multi-slice information from neighboring 2D slices without the significant computational overhead of full 3D methods. Specifically, we use neighboring low-resolution slices to super-resolve the center slice, exploiting inter-slice spatial context while maintaining computational efficiency. Stochastic neurons are extremely efficient hardware for solving a large class of problems and usually come in two varieties -- "binary" where the neuronal statevaries randomly between two values of -1, +1 and "analog" where the neuronal state can randomly assume any value between -1 and +1. Both have their uses in neuromorphic computing and both can be implemented with low- or zero-energy-barrier nanomagnets whose random magnetization orientations in the presence of thermal noise encode the binary or analog state variables. In between these two classes is n-ary stochastic neurons, mainly ternary stochastic neurons (TSN) whose state randomly assumes one of three values (-1, 0, +1), which have proved to be efficient in pattern classification tasks such as recognizing handwritten digits from the MNIST data set or patterns from the CIFAR-10 data set. Adaptability is critical in cooperative multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), where agents must learn specialised or homogeneous behaviours for diverse tasks. While parameter sharing methods are sample-efficient, they often encounter gradient interference among agents, limiting their behavioural diversity. Conversely, non-parameter sharing approaches enable specialisation, but are computationally demanding and sample-inefficient. To address these issues, we propose HyperMARL, a parameter sharing approach that uses hypernetworks to dynamically generate agent-specific actor and critic parameters, without altering the learning objective or requiring preset diversity levels. By decoupling observation- and agent-conditioned gradients, HyperMARL empirically reduces policy gradient variance and facilitates specialisation within FuPS, suggesting it can mitigate cross-agent interference. Across multiple MARL benchmarks involving up to twenty agents -- and requiring homogeneous, heterogeneous, or mixed behaviours -- HyperMARL consistently performs competitively with fully shared, non-parameter-sharing, and diversity-promoting baselines, all while preserving a behavioural diversity level comparable to non-parameter sharing. These findings establish hypernetworks as a versatile approach for MARL across diverse environments.

In the developing topic of smart cities, Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) are crucial for providing successful interaction between vehicles and infrastructure. This research proposes a distributed Blockchain-based Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (DistB-VNET) architecture that includes binary malicious traffic classification, Software Defined Networking (SDN), and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to ensure safe, scalable, and reliable vehicular networks in smart cities. The suggested framework is the decentralized blockchain for safe data management and SDN-NFV for dynamic network management and resource efficiency and a noble isolation forest algorithm works as an IDS (Intrusion Detection System). Further, "DistB-VNET" offers a dual-layer blockchain system, where a distributed blockchain provides safe communication between vehicles, while a centralized blockchain in the cloud is in charge of data verification and storage. This improves security, scalability, and adaptability, ensuring better traffic management, data security, and privacy in VANETs. Furthermore, the unsupervised isolation forest model achieves a high accuracy of 99.23% for detecting malicious traffic. Additionally, reveals that our method greatly improves network performance, offering decreased latency, increased security, and reduced congestion, an effective alternative for existing smart city infrastructures.
