Abstract

This paper investigates the dynamics of development in the area of Basso Ferrarese, in Italy. The area is a relatively underdeveloped zone located in the wealthy region of northern Italy. In the first part of the paper, we perform several CGE simulations to take area-specific factors into account. The simulations are mainly on productivity gains, which is the key element for the developnent of the area. We then discuss the policy implications in Rural Tourism, better trade and financial infrastructure.

Nanoparticles containing noscapine were prepared from these biodegradable and biocompatible copolymers using the nanoprecipitation method. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized for size and drug entrapment efficiency, and their morphology and size were checked by transmission electron microscopy imaging. Artificial neural networks were constructed and tested for their ability to predict particle size and entrapment efficiency of noscapine within the formed nanoparticles using different factors utilized in the preparation step, namely polymer molecular weight, ratio of polymer to drug, and number of blocks that make up the polymer. Using these networks, it was found that the polymer molecular weight has the greatest effect on particle size. On the other hand, polymer to drug ratio was found to be the most influential factor on drug entrapment efficiency. This study demonstrated the ability of artificial neural networks to predict not only the particle size of the formed nanoparticles but also the drug entrapment efficiency. This may have a great impact on the design of polyethylene glycol and polylactide-based copolymers, and can be used to customize the required target formulations. Abstract

The present study was focused on the morphology of the diencephalic nuclei (likely involved in reproductive functions) as well as on the distribution of GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) in the rhinencephalon, telencephalon and the diencephalon of the brain of bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) by means of immunohistochemistry. Bluefin tuna has an encephalization quotient (QE) similar to that of other large pelagic fish. Its brain exhibits well-developed optic tecta and corpus cerebelli. The diencephalic neuron cell bodies involved in reproductive functions are grouped in two main nuclei: the nucleus preopticus-periventricularis and the nucleus lateralis tuberis. The nucleus preopticus-periventricularis consists of the nucleus periventricularis and the nucleus preopticus consisting of a few sparse multipolar neurons in the rostral part and numerous cells closely packed and arranged in several layers in its aboral part. The nucleus lateralis tuberis is located in the ventral-lateral area of the diencephalon and is made up of a number of large multipolar neurones. Four different polyclonal primary antibodies against salmon (s)GnRH, chicken (c)GnRH-II (cGnRH-II 675, cGnRH-II 6) and sea bream (sb)GnRH were employed in the immunohistochemical experiments. No immunoreactive structures were found with anti sbGnRH serum. sGnRH and cGnRH-II antisera revealed immunoreactivity in the perikarya of the olfactory bulbs, preopticus-periventricular nucleus, oculomotor nucleus and midbrain tegmentum. The nucleus lateralis tuberis showed immunostaining only with anti-sGnRH serum. Nerve fibres immunoreactive to cGnRH and sGnRH sera were found in the olfactory bulbs, olfactory nerve and neurohypophysis. The significance of the distribution of the GnRHimmunoreactive neuronal structures is discussed.

Abstract

The innervation of the coypu foot pads (digital, metacarpal and metatarsal) is represented by an autonomic and a sensitive components. The former is constituted by isolated or grouped ganglion cells located along the course of nerve bundles, while the latter is composed by free and encapsulated nerve endings morphologically classified as Pacini, Pacini-like and Golgi-Mazzoni corpuscles. The above named corpuscles show the typical structure and can be found isolated or grouped to organize simple and complex flower-sprays, opposite-polar corpuscles and poikilomorphous fibres. The AA. notice the morphological variability of the encapsulated receptors found in this and previous similar investigations but point out also that they are functionally mechanoreceptors and so compatible with the role of the considered anatomical district.

Abstract

The autonomic and sensitive innervation of the ostrich copulatory organ was studied. The former consisted by isolated and grouped ganglion cells, located along the course of nerve bundles or in the convegence point of two or more of these fascicles. The latter is represented by free and encapsulated nerve terminations. These last one, morphologically classified as Pacini, Pacini-like and genital corpuscles,showed the typical structure and could be found isolated or assembled to organize flower-sprays, opposite-polar corpuscles or poikilomorphous nerve fibres. The Pacini corpuscles were numerically prevalent, while the Pacini-like terminations represented the less numerous receptorial type.

Abstract

Smyrnium olusatrum L. is a horticultural crop cultivated during the Roman age for culinary and curative uses. The essential oil extracted from this plant (AEO) is rich in bioactive constituents such as isofuranodiene and germacrone. Several previous studies revealed that AEO and its isolated components possess interesting therapeutic features, such as antiproliferative, neuritogenic, hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties. Nevertheless, AEO has stability problems because of the high concentration of its main components. This issue makes AEO very difficult to handle and use. Thus, AEO was formulated as microemulsions known for their thermodynamic stability and easiness of preparation. AEO was hydrodistilled from inflorescences of S. olusatrum and its composition determined by different chromatographic methods. The microemulsions were developed using a central composite design and their activity tested using the MTT assay. The present study demonstrated the possibility to formulate stable AEOmicroemulsionswhere the crystallization of isofuranodiene is avoided, and the AEO biological activity is maintained.
