Abstract Introduction The interleukin-23p19 subunit inhibitor, guselkumab, has demonstrated improvements in clinical and patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures in patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis. Understanding the relationship among clinical response, PRO measures and baseline characteristics could help clinicians individualize treatment plans. The objective of this analysis was to examine changes in signs, symptoms and quality-of-life (QoL) PRO measures in patients who maintained complete skin clearance through ≥ 3 years in the phase 3 VOYAGE 1 trial. Methods A descriptive post hoc analysis of data from VOYAGE 1 was conducted to compare baseline characteristics of patients who maintained complete skin clearance (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index [PASI] = 0 for ≥ 156 consecutive weeks) versus patients who did not. Mean scores for individual domains of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Psoriasis Symptom and Sign Diary (PSSD) were evaluated in patients who maintained complete skin clearance, and baseline characteristics of patients who achieved PRO scores of DLQI = 0/1 and PSSD = 0 were compared with those who did not. Results Of the 329 patients included in this post hoc analysis, 73 (22.2%) maintained PASI = 0 for ≥ 156 weeks. This group had a numerically lower proportion of patients at baseline with obesity, depression or previous biologic treatment and a higher proportion who had never smoked. Patients who maintained PASI = 0 generally achieved positive DLQI and PSSD outcomes, though some impact of residual disease was observed, largely related to the DLQI “Symptoms and feelings” sub-scale and PSSD components “Dryness,” “Redness” and “Itch.” Patients reporting continued disease impact (despite sustaining PASI = 0) had greater disease severity at baseline versus those achieving DLQI = 0/1 and PSSD = 0. Conclusion Clinical measures alone do not capture the full patient experience. While both QoL and clinical symptoms are responsive to highly effective treatment, a subset of patients with complete clinical response is still impacted by their psoriasis. Abstract Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) have a high reproductive rate because they reach sexual maturity very early. This short rearing time results in increasing interest among breeders and consumers. The aim of the study was a comparative analysis of two genotypes and sexes of Japanese and Pharaoh quails and their impact on body weight, carcass composition, meat quality, digestive system morphometry and leg bone dimensions. For many safety-related applications such as hazard mapping or road management, well-documented avalanche events are crucial. Nowadays, despite the variety of research directions, the available data are mostly restricted to isolated locations where they are collected by observers in the field. Webcams are becoming more frequent in the Alps and beyond, capturing numerous avalanche-prone slopes. To complement the knowledge about avalanche occurrences, we propose making use of this webcam imagery for avalanche mapping. For humans, avalanches are relatively easy to identify, but the manual mapping of their outlines is time intensive. Therefore, we propose supporting the mapping of avalanches in images with a learned segmentation model. In interactive avalanche segmentation (IAS), a user collaborates with a deep-learning model to segment the avalanche outlines, taking advantage of human expert knowledge while keeping the effort low thanks to the model's ability to delineate avalanches. The human corrections to the segmentation in the form of positive clicks on the avalanche or negative clicks on the background result in avalanche outlines of good quality with little effort. Relying on IAS, we extract avalanches from the images in a flexible and efficient manner, resulting in a 90 % time saving compared to conventional manual mapping. The images can be georeferenced with a mono-photogrammetry tool, allowing for exact geolocation of the avalanche outlines and subsequent use in geographical information systems (GISs). If a webcam is mounted in a stable position, the georeferencing can be re-used for all subsequent images. In this way, all avalanches mapped in images from a webcam can be imported into a designated database, making them available for the relevant safety-related applications. For imagery, we rely on current data and data archived from webcams that cover Dischma Valley near Davos, Switzerland, and that have captured an image every 30 min during the daytime since the winter of 2019. Our model and the associated mapping pipeline represent an important step forward towards continuous and precise avalanche documentation, complementing existing databases and thereby providing a better base for safety-critical decisions and planning in avalanche-prone mountain regions.

RICD involves a decline in cognitive abilities such as memory and attention, likely due to damage to brain white matter, inflammation, and oxidative stress. The multifactorial nature of RICD poses challenges including different mechanisms of injury (neurogenesis, oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, dendritic structure alterations and vascular effects) and confounding factors like advanced age, and pre-existing conditions. Despite these challenges, several potential solutions exist. Neuroprotective agents like antioxidants can mitigate radiation damage, while cognitive rehabilitation techniques such as cognitive training and memory strategies improve cognitive function. Advanced imaging techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) help identify vulnerable brain areas, and proton therapy offers precise targeting of cancer cells, sparing healthy tissue. Multidisciplinary care teams are crucial for managing RICD’s cognitive and psychological effects. Personalized medicine, using genetic and molecular data, can identify high-risk patients and tailor treatments accordingly. Emerging therapies, including stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine, offer hope for repairing or replacing damaged brain tissue. The use of three-dimensional (3D) gait analysis to image femorotibial translation can aid in the diagnosis of pathology and provide additional insight into the severity of KOA (knee osteoarthritis). Femorotibial translation is of particular importance in patients undergoing UKA (unicompartmental knee arthroplasty), as the absence or elongation of ligamentous structures results in changes in the kinematic alignment. The aim of the study was to evaluate the parameters of femorotibial translation in patients with MOA (medial unicompartmental OA). An artificial model was employed to develop a method for calculating femorotibial translation in vitro. In a prospective cohort study, gait data using three-dimensional gait analysis were collected from 11 patients (68.73 ± 9.22 years) with severe OA scheduled for UKA and 29 unmatched healthy participants (22.07 ± 2.23 years). The discrete variables characterising femorotibial translation were compared for statistical significance (p < 0.05) using the Student’s t-test and the Mann–Whitney U-test. The results of the study validated an artificial model to mimic femorotibial translation. The comparison of patients scheduled for UKA and a healthy unmatched control group showed no statistically significant differences concerning femorotibial translation in all three planes (p > 0.05). However, the PROMs (patient-reported outcome measures), spatiotemporal, and kinematic parameters showed statistically significant differences between the groups (p < 0.001). The data presented here demonstrate typical changes in PROMs as well as spatiotemporal and kinematic outcomes for MOA as seen in knee OA. The results of the clinical gait analyses demonstrate individualised femorotibial translation. The extent of individual femorotibial translation may prove to be an important parameter for altered joint kinematics in patients with MOA, especially prior to UKA implantation.

Abstract Local interaction patterns play an important role in the structural and functional organization of complex networks. Here we propose a method for obtaining parsimonious decompositions of networks into higher order interactions which can take the form of arbitrary motifs. The method is based on a class of analytically solvable generative models which in combination with non-parametric priors allow us to infer higher order interactions from dyadic graph data without any prior knowledge on the types or frequencies of such interactions. We test the presented approach on simulated data for which we recover the set of underlying higher order interactions to a high degree of accuracy. For empirical networks the method identifies concise sets of atomic subgraphs from within thousands of candidates that cover a large fraction of edges and include higher order interactions of known structural and functional significance. Being based on statistical inference the method also produces a fit of the network to analytically tractable higher order models opening new avenues for the systematic study of higher order interactions.

Abstract Background Sex trafficking victims often have touchpoints with salons for waxing, styling, and other body modification services required by traffickers. Recently, some states have administered laws requiring salon professionals to receive intimate partner violence (IPV)-related training, with even fewer states mandating training on identifying sex trafficking. This study aimed to understand how salon professionals have witnessed evidence of violence, including IPV and sex trafficking, in the workplace and to explore the differences in their approach to each type of victim. Methods In-depth interviews were conducted with salon professionals (N = 10) and law enforcement professionals/policymakers (N = 5). Content and thematic analysis techniques were used. Results Salon professionals typically identified potential violence through signs such as bruises, odd behavior, and client disclosures, prompting them to engage in cautious conversations. Yet, few were trained to identify and intervene. Often, they responded to suspected violence by talking with the client, sharing concerns with salon leadership, directly intervening on the client’s behalf, or contacting the police. Law enforcement and salon professionals had suggestions about improving salon professionals’ recognition of and response to violence, including training on victim-focused resources, creating a safe environment, and building relationships with law enforcement. They also suggested strengthening community partnerships to increase resource advocacy and reporting. Conclusions One-on-one salon services may provide a unique opportunity to intervene and identify victims of violence, especially when empowered through additional training and collaborative partnerships with community-oriented policing initiates. Implementing training and community-based initiatives could aid salon professionals in gaining greater confidence in knowing what to do when serving a client who is a victim of IPV or sex trafficking.

Abstract We here introduce the Aquamarine (AQM) dataset, an extensive quantum-mechanical (QM) dataset that contains the structural and electronic information of 59,783 low-and high-energy conformers of 1,653 molecules with a total number of atoms ranging from 2 to 92 (mean: 50.9), and containing up to 54 (mean: 28.2) non-hydrogen atoms. To gain insights into the solvent effects as well as collective dispersion interactions for drug-like molecules, we have performed QM calculations supplemented with a treatment of many-body dispersion (MBD) interactions of structures and properties in the gas phase and implicit water. Thus, AQM contains over 40 global and local physicochemical properties (including ground-state and response properties) per conformer computed at the tightly converged PBE0+MBD level of theory for gas-phase molecules, whereas PBE0+MBD with the modified Poisson-Boltzmann (MPB) model of water was used for solvated molecules. By addressing both molecule-solvent and dispersion interactions, AQM dataset can serve as a challenging benchmark for state-of-the-art machine learning methods for property modeling and de novo generation of large (solvated) molecules with pharmaceutical and biological relevance.

Introduction: The Singapore Institute of Technology-University of Glasgow (SIT-UofG) Nursing Programme has traditionally taken a didactic teaching approach in the delivery of the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) module. A hybrid approach was introduced using Game-Based Learning (GBL) to encourage active learning through gameplay. Methods: A Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) was undertaken encompassing a cohort of 100 Nursing students taking the EBP module in their first year at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) in the 2021/22 academic year. The experimental group (n=27) worked through the online GBL intervention and the EBP module, while the control group (n=27) took the EBP module alone. The GBL included five Learning Quests and three case studies. Results: High levels of satisfaction were reported by both the experimental group (n=22) and the control group (n=15) on the traditional content and delivery of the EBP module. This qualitative study aims to analyse the personal qualification, attitudes and the pedagogical concepts of German teachers as experts in their profession regarding basic life support (BLS) education in secondary schools. Thirteen (n = 13) secondary school teachers participated in semi-structured expert interviews and were interviewed for at least 20 to 60 min regarding BLS student education. Interviews were semi-structured with guiding questions addressing (1) personal experience, (2) teacher qualification for BLS and (3) implementation factors (e.g., personal, material and organisational). Audio-recorded interviews were analysed by content analysis, generating a coding system. School teachers provided a heterogeneous view on implementation-related processes in BLS education. Many teachers were educated in first aid, acknowledge its importance, but had no experience in teaching BLS. They want to assure being competent for teaching BLS and need tailored trainings, materials, pedagogical information and the incorporation into the curriculum. Also, the management of time constraints, unwilling colleagues, or young students being overwhelmed were commonly mentioned considerations. Concluding, teachers reported to be willing to teach BLS but a stepwise implementation framework incorporating practice-oriented qualification and educational goals is missing.

This paper demonstrates the observation of wind shear and veer directly from the operational response of a wind turbine equipped with blade load sensors. Two independent neural-based observers, one for shear and one for veer, are first trained using a machine-learning approach and then used to produce estimates of these two wind characteristics from measured blade load harmonics. The study is based on a dataset collected at an experimental test site featuring a highly instrumented 8 MW wind turbine, an IEC-compliant (International Electrotechnical Commission) met mast, and a vertical profiling lidar reaching above the rotor top. The present study reports the first demonstration of the measurement of wind veer with this technology and the first validation of shear and veer with respect to lidar measurements spanning the whole rotor height. Results are presented in terms of correlations, exemplary time histories, and aggregated statistical metrics. Measurements of shear and veer produced by the observers are very similar to the ones obtained with the widely adopted profiling lidar while avoiding its complexity and associated costs.

We propose a deep learning approach for high-resolution species distribution modelling (SDM) at large scale combining point-wise, crowd-sourced species observation data and environmental data with Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. What makes this task challenging is the great variety of controlling factors for species distribution, such as habitat conditions, human intervention, competition, disturbances, and evolutionary history. Experts either incorporate these factors into complex mechanistic models based on presence-absence data collected in field campaigns or train machine learning models to learn the relationship between environmental data and presence-only species occurrence. We extend the latter approach here and learn deep SDMs end-to-end based on point-wise, crowd-sourced presence-only data in combination with satellite imagery. Our method, dubbed Sat-SINR, jointly models the spatial distributions of 5.6k plant species across Europe and increases the spatial resolution by a factor of 100 compared to the current state of the art. We exhaustively test and ablate multiple variations of combining geo-referenced point data with satellite imagery and show that our deep learning-based SDM method consistently shows an improvement of up to 3 percentage points across three metrics. The current study sought to better understand how leisure boredom is associated with alcohol use and how peer factors moderated the relationship between state and trait leisure boredom and past month alcohol use. The 2004 to 2008 multi-cohort study sample included 3,837 high school students (50% female; 91% mixed race; M[subscript age] = 14 years; SD = 0.83) in the Cape Town area of South Africa. Results of generalized multilevel models found peer factors (time spent with peers, injunctive friend norms, descriptive peer norms) and trait, but not state, leisure boredom significantly predicted past month alcohol use. Findings can inform alcohol prevention efforts and suggest both peer factors and trait leisure boredom are worthy targets for intervention. Specifically, supporting adolescents to effectively navigate experiences of leisure boredom may, in turn, reduce alcohol use.

Background: Emergence agitation is a common complication after nasal surgeries, marked by increased agitation and a heightened risk of injuries. Factors like urinary catheter, endotracheal tube, postoperative pain, and younger age contribute to its occurrence. Due to the variety of preventive approaches reported in the literature, a network meta-analysis is essential. Methods: This systematic review employs a network meta-analysis design, following Cochrane Handbook and PRISMA-NMA criteria. Inclusion criteria involve randomized controlled studies on pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for preventing emergence agitation in nasal surgeries. Electronic searches, including PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, without language or date restrictions, were conducted. Two independent reviewers selected studies, and data extraction was performed using standardized tables. Bayesian NMA, MetaInsight web app, and Cochrane Foundation Risk of Bias Assessment Tool were applied for data analysis and bias assessment. Results: After a rigorous selection process, 17 Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) encompassing 2,122 patients and 14 interventions were included. The best ranked treatments identified were intraoperative dexmedetomidine (1 μg.kg-1 for 10 minutes as a bolus, followed by 0.4 μg.kg-1.h-1), bilateral nasociliary and maxillary nerve block, ketamine (0.5 mg.kg-1 administered 20 minutes before the end of surgery), nasal compression for 40 minutes before anesthesia induction, and suction above the cuff of the endotracheal tube. Conclusions: Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions emerged as effective strategies in mitigating emergence agitation after nasal surgeries, offering clinicians valuable options for improving postoperative outcomes in this patient population.

INTRODUCTION: Historical reservations regarding stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) brain metastases include concerns for short-interval and diffuse central nervous system (CNS) progression, poor prognoses, and increased neurological mortality specific to SCLC histology. We compared SRS outcomes for SCLC and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) where SRS is well established. METHODS: Multicenter first-line SRS outcomes for SCLC and NSCLC from 2000 to 2022 were retrospectively collected (n = 892 SCLC, n = 4785 NSCLC). Data from the prospective Japanese Leksell Gamma Knife Society (JLGK0901) clinical trial of first-line SRS were analyzed as a comparison cohort (n = 98 SCLC, n = 814 NSCLC). Overall survival (OS) and CNS progression were analyzed using Cox proportional hazard and Fine-Gray models, respectively, with multivariable adjustment for cofactors including age, sex, performance status, year, extracranial disease status, and brain metastasis number and volume. Mutation-stratified analyses were performed in propensity score-matched retrospective cohorts of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) positive NSCLC, mutation-negative NSCLC, and SCLC. Below the surface layers of the ocean, there are ecosystems full of undiscovered life. Scientists love to ask questions like, “Who is there?” and “What are they doing?” An important question scientists are beginning to ask is, “How will these living things react to warmer waters, loss of oxygen, or pollution?” To answer these questions, scientists build equipment to observe life in the deep sea. We built an ocean lander named BEEBE, with a camera, sensors, and waterproof casing. BEEBE helped us study deep-sea ecosystems near the coast of California and learn about the animals that live there. We can use what we learned to recognize vulnerable communities and the threats some ocean animals face. An ocean lander like BEEBE can be a great tool to learn more about coastal, deep-sea ecosystems around the world!

ABSTRACT Pseudomonas alloputida KT2440 is a ubiquitous, soil-dwelling bacterium that metabolizes recalcitrant and volatile carbon sources. The latter is utilized by two redundant, Ca- and lanthanide (Ln)-dependent, pyrroloquinoline quinone-dependent alcohol dehydrogenases (PQQ ADH), PedE and PedH, whose expression is regulated by Ln availability. P. alloputida KT2440 is the best-studied non-methylotroph in the context of Ln-utilization. Combined with microfluidic cultivation and single-cell elemental analysis, we studied the impact of light and heavy Ln on transcriptome-wide gene expression when growing P. alloputida KT2440 with 2-phenylethanol as the carbon and energy source. Light Ln (La, Ce, and Nd) and a mixture of light and heavy Ln (La, Ce, Nd, Dy, Ho, Er, and Yb) had a positive effect on growth, whereas supplementation with heavy Ln (Dy, Ho, Er, and Yb) exerted fitness costs. These were likely a consequence of mismetallation and non-utilizable Ln interfering with Ln sensing and signaling. The measured amounts of cell-associated Ln varied between elements. Gene expression analysis suggested that the Ln sensing and signaling machinery, the two-component system PedS2R2 and PedH, responds differently to (non-)utilizable Ln. We expanded our understanding of the lanthanide (Ln) switch in P. alloputida KT2440, demonstrating that it adjusts the levels of pedE and pedH transcripts based on the availability of Ln. We propose that the usability of Ln influences the bacterium’s response to different Ln elements.IMPORTANCEThe Ln switch, the inverse regulation of Ca- and Ln-dependent PQQ ADH in response to Ln availability in organisms featuring both, is central to our understanding of Ln utilization. Although the preference of bacteria for light Ln is well known, the effect of different Ln, light and heavy, on growth and gene expression has rarely been studied. We provide evidence for a fine-tuning mechanism of Ca- and Ln-dependent PQQ ADH in P. alloputida KT2440 on the transcriptome level. The response to (non-)utilizable Ln differs depending on the element. Ln commonly co-occur in nature. Our findings underline that Ln-utilizing microbes must be able to discriminate between Ln to use them effectively. Considering the prevalence of Ln-dependent proteins in many microbial taxa, more work addressing Ln sensing and signaling is needed. Ln availability likely necessitates different adaptations regarding Ln utilization.

Protein quality refers to the evaluation of a food or a diet based on its amino acid composition, protein digestibility, and protein bioavailability. When these parameters are specified, either through direct measurement or estimation, the amino acids provided by the diet are compared to those required by a healthy individual, and based on this comparison, an adequacy ratio or score is assigned. Two widely used protein quality scoring systems are the protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) and the digestible indispensable amino acid score (DIAAS), neither of which account for the dietary source of the protein. In malnourished children, metabolic adaptations reduce the endogenous availability of amino acids and increase the demand for protein synthesis. These increased amino acid requirements are primarily driven by the presence of acute infection and the need for tissue accretion. This review examines two large clinical feeding trials involving moderately malnourished children, where dietary protein quality was carefully measured. The finding s suggest that protein quality scores alone do not reliably predict weight gain or recovery in these children and that consuming milk protein provides distinct advantages over vegetable-based proteins.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the implementation of the bedside medication preparation process in an Intensive Care Unit, following a quality improvement cycle. Method: A quasi-experimental study with non-paired samples, pre- and post-implementation, conducted in an Intensive Care Unit of a public hospital in southern Brazil, from September 2022 to April 2023, following the guidelines of the Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence 2.0. Adherence to bedside medication preparation, interruptions during preparation, adequate storage, identification and validity of multidose medications, and recording of storage refrigerator temperature were evaluated. Shapiro-Wilk and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for data analysis, and Carter's Positivity Index was used to determine compliance with observed practices. Results: Forty-five audits were conducted pre-intervention and 122 audits three months after the implementation of the improvement cycle. All variables showed significant improvements. Overall compliance increased from 46% to 80% in the pre- and post-implementation periods, respectively, indicating a transition from "undesirable" to "safe" care stratum. Conclusion: The study revealed a positive relationship between the implementation of a quality improvement cycle focused on medication preparation and improvements in patient safety.

Menstruation is a worldwide biological phenomenon that can have differing impacts based on what women were taught by their family members and friends. The purpose of this investigation was to understand menstruation experiences and communication, from menarche through menopause, among a sample of cross-generational women living in Florence, Italy. In-depth interviews (n=28) were conducted in English in May and June 2022 to investigate different aspects affecting menstruation throughout a woman’s lifetime. Most participants reported having received limited preparation for menarche, menstruation, and menopause. Education typically came from the participants’ mothers rather than school, which can be attributed to the culture and religion ingrained within Italian society. and menstrual health is still seen as a taboo by older generations. However, discussing these topics with friends and family is becoming more common among younger generations. Results indicated Italian women’s experiences surrounding menarche, menstruation, and menopause, including preparation, education, and openness and discussion. Findings revealed the changing perceptions and generational differences within Italian culture regarding women’s menstruation. This will allow educators, healthcare providers, and families to better understand what education is currently being provided and where more is needed.

This study assesses the impact and potential enhancements of a Pharmacy Vending Machine (PhVM) program implemented at Purdue University since January 2021. Aimed at addressing the accessibility gap for essential healthcare items, particularly sexual and reproductive health products, and over-the-counter medications, the program has expanded from two to eight PhVMs on campus. A web-based survey was completed by a random University sample (n=469) to evaluate the program's efficacy and identify avenues for improvement. Survey responses and sales data from January 2021 to April 2023 were analyzed. Findings demonstrate a positive reception of the PhVMs, highlighting a preference for increased accessibility to sexual and reproductive healthcare items. Word-of-mouth remains a key source of awareness for vending machines, suggesting the significance of targeted marketing strategies and information dissemination within on-campus groups. Sales data trends underscore the necessity for ongoing assessment to optimize student access to PhVMs. This study is a comprehensive evaluation, emphasizing the importance of continual refinement in healthcare vending initiatives to cater effectively to campus community needs.

Abstract In recent years, cancer immunotherapy has undergone a transformative shift toward personalized and targeted therapeutic strategies. Bacteria‐derived outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) have emerged as a promising and adaptable platform for cancer immunotherapy due to their unique properties, including natural immunogenicity and the ability to be engineered for specific therapeutic purposes. In this review, a comprehensive overview is provided of state‐of‐the‐art techniques and methodologies employed in the engineering of versatile OMVs for cancer immunotherapy. Beginning by exploring the biogenesis and composition of OMVs, unveiling their intrinsic immunogenic properties for therapeutic appeal. Subsequently, innovative approaches employed to engineer OMVs are delved into, ranging from the genetic engineering of parent bacteria to the incorporation of functional molecules. The importance of rational design strategies is highlighted to enhance the immunogenicity and specificity of OMVs, allowing tailoring for diverse cancer types. Furthermore, insights into clinical studies and potential challenges utilizing OMVs as cancer vaccines or adjuvants are also provided, offering a comprehensive assessment of the current landscape and future prospects. Overall, this review provides valuable insights for researchers involved in the rapidly evolving field of cancer immunotherapy, offering a roadmap for harnessing the full potential of OMVs as a versatile and adaptable platform for cancer treatment.

Abstract There has been a plethora of experience in conducting organic reactions in solution, with little to no knowledge in organic reactions on surfaces. Broadening the horizon of organic on‐surface synthesis will enable creation of functional materials and direct integration into devices. Herein, we report an Ullmann reaction on thiol‐functionalized gold nanoparticles serving as reactant, stabilizing agent, catalyst and reducing agent in this transformation. The orientation of ligands and formation of Surface Assembled Monolayer (SAM) on the gold nanoparticles were exploited to attain selectivity of hetero‐ over homo‐Ullmann coupling, thus, expanding the toolbox of organic on‐surface synthesis to nanoparticles.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to compare analyze the quality of meat depending on the type of muscle: breast muscles (m. Pectoralis superficialis and m. Pectoralis profundus) and leg muscles (m. Sartorius and m. Femorotibialis) in relation to the sex of the common guinea fowl (Numida meleagris). For the study, pectoral muscles and leg muscles from 10 females and 10 males at 20 wk of age were used to determine their chemical composition, physicochemical properties, and texture characteristics of the pectoral muscle were determined. Overall, pectoral muscles were characterized by higher protein content, lightness (L*), and electrical conductivity (EC24), and lower redness (a*), and pH24 compared to leg muscles. Leg muscles, on the other hand, were characterized by higher, collagen, intramuscular fat and salt content. In terms of pectoral muscle texture characteristics, males were characterized by lower chewiness value and were less gumminess. In conclusion, it can be said that the sex of the birds affected some of the pectoral muscle texture traits, but did not affect the remaining analyzed features of the pectoral and leg muscles. However, from the consumer's point of view, breast muscles contained more protein and less fat, so they are more dietary compared to leg muscles.

As of March 31, 2023, more than 30,000 monkeypox (mpox) cases had been reported in the United States in an outbreak that has disproportionately affected gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender persons (1). JYNNEOS vaccine (Modified Vaccinia Ankara vaccine, Bavarian Nordic) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2019 for the prevention of smallpox and mpox via subcutaneous injection as a 2-dose series (0.5 mL per dose, administered 4 weeks apart) (2). To expand vaccine access, an Emergency Use Authorization was issued by FDA on August 9, 2022, for dose-sparing intradermal injection of JYNNEOS as a 2-dose series (0.1 mL per dose, administered 4 weeks apart) (3). Vaccination was available to persons with known or presumed exposure to a person with mpox (postexposure prophylaxis [PEP]), as well as persons at increased risk for mpox or who might benefit from vaccination (preexposure mpox prophylaxis [PrEP]) (4). Because information on JYNNEOS vaccine effectiveness (VE) is limited, a matched case-control study was conducted in 12 U.S. jurisdictions,† including nine Emerging Infections Program sites and three Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity sites,§ to evaluate VE against mpox among MSM and transgender adults aged 18-49 years. During August 19, 2022-March 31, 2023, a total of 309 case-patients were matched to 608 control patients. Adjusted VE was 75.2% (95% CI = 61.2% to 84.2%) for partial vaccination (1 dose) and 85.9% (95% CI = 73.8% to 92.4%) for full vaccination (2 doses). Adjusted VE for full vaccination by subcutaneous, intradermal, and heterologous routes of administration was 88.9% (95% CI = 56.0% to 97.2%), 80.3% (95% CI = 22.9% to 95.0%), and 86.9% (95% CI = 69.1% to 94.5%), respectively. Adjusted VE for full vaccination among immunocompromised participants was 70.2% (95% CI = -37.9% to 93.6%) and among immunocompetent participants was 87.8% (95% CI = 57.5% to 96.5%). JYNNEOS is effective at reducing the risk for mpox. Because duration of protection of 1 versus 2 doses remains unknown, persons at increased risk for mpox exposure should receive the 2-dose series as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP),¶ regardless of administration route or immunocompromise status.

Abstract Background The selection of data elements is a decisive task within the development of a health registry. Having the right metadata is crucial for answering the particular research questions. Furthermore, the set of data elements determines the registries’ readiness of interoperability and data reusability to a major extent. Six health registries shared and published their metadata within a German funding initiative. As one step in the direction of a common set of data elements, a selection of those metadata was evaluated with regard to their appropriateness for a broader usage. Methods Each registry was asked to contribute a 10%-selection of their data elements to an evaluation sample. The survey was set up with the online survey tool „LimeSurvey Cloud”. The registries and an accompanying project participated in the survey with one vote for each project. The data elements were offered in content groups along with the question of whether the data element is appropriate for health registries on a broader scale. The question could be answered using a Likert scale with five options. Furthermore, “no answer” was allowed. The level of agreement was assessed using weighted Cohen’s kappa and Kendall’s coefficient of concordance. Results The evaluation sample consisted of 269 data elements. With a grade of “perhaps recommendable” or higher in the mean, 169 data elements were selected. These data elements belong preferably to groups’ demography, education/occupation, medication, and nutrition. Half of the registries lost significance compared with their percentage of data elements in the evaluation sample, one remained stable. The level of concordance was adequate. Conclusions The survey revealed a set of 169 data elements recommended for health registries. When developing a registry, this set could be valuable help in selecting the metadata appropriate to answer the registry’s research questions. However, due to the high specificity of research questions, data elements beyond this set will be needed to cover the whole range of interests of a register. A broader discussion and subsequent surveys are needed to establish a common set of data elements on an international scale.
