Physics - Instrumentation and Detectors - Abstract
Xenon dual-phase time projections chambers (TPCs) have proven to be a successful technology in studying physical phenomena that require low-background conditions. With 40t of liquid xenon (LXe) in the TPC baseline design, DARWIN will have a high sensitivity for the detection of particle dark matter, neutrinoless double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$), and axion-like particles (ALPs). Although cosmic muons are a source of background that cannot be entirely eliminated, they may be greatly diminished by placing the detector deep underground. In this study, we used Monte Carlo simulations to model the cosmogenic background expected for the DARWIN observatory at four underground laboratories: Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) and SNOLAB. We determine the production rates of unstable xenon isotopes and tritium due to muon-included neutron fluxes and muon-induced spallation. These are expected to represent the dominant contributions to cosmogenic backgrounds and thus the most relevant for site selection.

Every Web session involves a DNS resolution. While, in the last decade, we witnessed a promising trend towards an encrypted Web in general, DNS encryption has only recently gained traction with the standardisation of DNS over TLS (DoT) and DNS over HTTPS (DoH). Meanwhile, the rapid rise of QUIC deployment has now opened up an exciting opportunity to utilise the same protocol to not only encrypt Web communications, but also DNS. In this paper, we evaluate this benefit of using QUIC to coalesce name resolution via DNS over QUIC (DoQ), and Web content delivery via HTTP/3 (H3) with 0-RTT. We compare this scenario using several possible combinations where H3 is used in conjunction with DoH and DoQ, as well as the unencrypted DNS over UDP (DoUDP). We observe, that when using H3 1-RTT, page load times with DoH can get inflated by $>$30\% over fixed-line and by $>$50\% over mobile when compared to unencrypted DNS with DoUDP. However, this cost of encryption can be drastically reduced when encrypted connections are coalesced (DoQ + H3 0-RTT), thereby reducing the page load times by 1/3 over fixed-line and 1/2 over mobile, overall making connection coalescing with QUIC the best option for encrypted communication on the Internet., Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures and 2 tables

Developers expend a significant amount of time in editing code for a variety of reasons such as bug fixing or adding new features. Designing effective methods to predict code edits has been an active yet challenging area of research due to the diversity of code edits and the difficulty of capturing the developer intent. In this work, we address these challenges by endowing pre-trained large language models (LLMs) of code with the knowledge of prior, relevant edits. The generative capability of the LLMs helps address the diversity in code changes and conditioning code generation on prior edits helps capture the latent developer intent. We evaluate two well-known LLMs, Codex and CodeT5, in zero-shot and fine-tuning settings respectively. In our experiments with two datasets, the knowledge of prior edits boosts the performance of the LLMs significantly and enables them to generate 29% and 54% more correctly edited code in top-1 suggestions relative to the current state-of-the-art symbolic and neural approaches, respectively.

This research paper describes a realtime system for identifying American Sign Language (ASL) movements that employs modern computer vision and machine learning approaches. The suggested method makes use of the Mediapipe library for feature extraction and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for ASL gesture classification. The testing results show that the suggested system can detect all ASL alphabets with an accuracy of 99.95%, indicating its potential for use in communication devices for people with hearing impairments. The proposed approach can also be applied to additional sign languages with similar hand motions, potentially increasing the quality of life for people with hearing loss. Overall, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of using Mediapipe and CNN for real-time sign language recognition, making a significant contribution to the field of computer vision and machine learning., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables

With the phenomenal growth in renewable energy generation, the conventional synchronous generator-based power plants are gradually getting replaced by renewable energy sources-based microgrids. Such transition gives rise to the challenges of procuring various ancillary services from microgrids. We propose a distributed optimization framework that coordinates multiple microgrids in an active distribution network for provisioning passive voltage support-based ancillary services while satisfying operational constraints. Specifically, we exploit the reactive power support capability of the inverters and the flexibility offered by storage systems available with microgrids for provisioning ancillary service support to the transmission grid. We develop novel mixed-integer inequalities to represent the set of feasible active and reactive power exchange with the transmission grid that ensures passive voltage support. The proposed alternating direction method of multipliers-based algorithm is fully distributed, and does not require the presence of a centralized entity to achieve coordination among the microgrids. We present detailed numerical results on the IEEE 33-bus distribution test system to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach and examine the scalability and convergence behavior of the distributed algorithm for different choice of hyperparameters and network sizes.

Sign language is a visual language that enhances communication between people and is frequently used as the primary form of communication by people with hearing loss. Even so, not many people with hearing loss use sign language, and they frequently experience social isolation. Therefore, it is necessary to create human-computer interface systems that can offer hearing-impaired people a social platform. Most commercial sign language translation systems now on the market are sensor-based, pricey, and challenging to use. Although vision-based systems are desperately needed, they must first overcome several challenges. Earlier continuous sign language recognition techniques used hidden Markov models, which have a limited ability to include temporal information. To get over these restrictions, several machine learning approaches are being applied to transform hand and sign language motions into spoken or written language. In this study, we compare various deep learning techniques for recognising sign language. Our survey aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the most recent approaches and challenges in this field., Comment: 6 pages, 1 table

Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
Over the last decade, Web traffic has significantly shifted towards HTTPS due to an increased awareness for privacy. However, DNS traffic is still largely unencrypted, which allows user profiles to be derived from plaintext DNS queries. While DNS over TLS (DoT) and DNS over HTTPS (DoH) address this problem by leveraging transport encryption for DNS, both protocols are constrained by the underlying transport (TCP) and encryption (TLS) protocols, requiring multiple round-trips to establish a secure connection. In contrast, QUIC combines the transport and cryptographic handshake into a single round-trip, which allows the recently standardized DNS over QUIC (DoQ) to provide DNS privacy with minimal latency. In the first study of its kind, we perform distributed DoQ measurements across multiple vantage points to evaluate the impact of DoQ on Web performance. We find that DoQ excels over DoH, leading to significant improvements with up to 10% faster loads for simple webpages. With increasing complexity of webpages, DoQ even catches up to DNS over UDP (DoUDP) as the cost of encryption amortizes: With DoQ being only ~2% slower than DoUDP, encrypted DNS becomes much more appealing for the Web.

Computer Science - Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition - Abstract
Depth completion from RGB images and sparse Time-of-Flight (ToF) measurements is an important problem in computer vision and robotics. While traditional methods for depth completion have relied on stereo vision or structured light techniques, recent advances in deep learning have enabled more accurate and efficient completion of depth maps from RGB images and sparse ToF measurements. To evaluate the performance of different depth completion methods, we organized an RGB+sparse ToF depth completion competition. The competition aimed to encourage research in this area by providing a standardized dataset and evaluation metrics to compare the accuracy of different approaches. In this report, we present the results of the competition and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the top-performing methods. We also discuss the implications of our findings for future research in RGB+sparse ToF depth completion. We hope that this competition and report will help to advance the state-of-the-art in this important area of research. Gravitational lensing by massive objects along the line of sight to the source causes distortions of gravitational wave-signals; such distortions may reveal information about fundamental physics, cosmology and astrophysics. In this work, we have extended the search for lensing signatures to all binary black hole events from the third observing run of the LIGO--Virgo network. We search for repeated signals from strong lensing by 1) performing targeted searches for subthreshold signals, 2) calculating the degree of overlap amongst the intrinsic parameters and sky location of pairs of signals, 3) comparing the similarities of the spectrograms amongst pairs of signals, and 4) performing dual-signal Bayesian analysis that takes into account selection effects and astrophysical knowledge. We also search for distortions to the gravitational waveform caused by 1) frequency-independent phase shifts in strongly lensed images, and 2) frequency-dependent modulation of the amplitude and phase due to point masses. None of these searches yields significant evidence for lensing. Finally, we use the non-detection of gravitational-wave lensing to constrain the lensing rate based on the latest merger-rate estimates and the fraction of dark matter composed of compact objects., Comment: 28 pages, 11 figures

Persistent craniopharyngeal canal (PCPC) is a rare congenital anomaly arising from the incomplete closure of the craniopharyngeal canal during embryological development. Imaging plays a crucial role in identifying and understanding the anatomical characteristics and guiding appropriate management strategies. We present a series of four cases of PCPC with varied and unexpected clinical presentations along with details of imaging nuances and management implications, emphasizing the importance of radiodiagnosis in guiding appropriate management strategies. From incidental diagnosis in an asymptomatic adult to a symptomatic syndromic child, the PCPC has a wide clinico-radiological spectrum of presentation as well as management challenges.

During face mask ventilation, invariably, some air enters the esophagus rather than the airways; this results in gastric insufflation while the esophagus is intact or loss of tidal volume in patients with a cervical esophagostomy (Cx-esophagostomy). OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to report the indigenous use of an electrocardiography (ECG) electrode in successfully occluding the Cx-esophagostomy to prevent inadvertent loss of tidal volume. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-nine observations were recorded on 27 patients (mean age: 10.9 months; male:female = 2.6:1). The oral cavity, pharynx, and Cx-esophagostomy were cleared of saliva. Peristomal area was cleaned with dry gauze and dried with alcohol. Latex-free, 50 mm, ECG electrode was pasted symmetrically over the Cx-esophagostomy. The efficacy of the electrode was assessed using a five-point algorithm: (i) collapse of reservoir bag, (ii) chest expansion, (iii) ballooning of electrode, (iv) cotton-wisp test, and (v) change in compliance with manual compression of the electrode. Subgroup analysis was conducted for laterality and health of Cx-esophagostomy. Results: Study cohort: Cx-esophagostomy was located on the left in 58.26% (n = 17/29) patients. The health of Cx-esophagostomies was graded from I to IV (n = 9, 16, 3, and 1, respectively). The collapse of the reservoir bag and chest rise indicated successful ventilation. Ballooning of the electrode with each breath was observed in 79% (23/29) patients. Partial separation of the electrode from the skin (exaggerated with each breath) was observed in 10.3% (3/29) patients (Group I: n = 1, Group III: n = 1, and Group IV: n = 1). This was related to poor local preparation or pooling of saliva (n = 1; Group I: resolved with procedural re-application of a fresh electrode) and underlying skin condition (n = 2; Groups III and IV: resolved only temporarily with re-application). The cotton-wisp test was positive in two additional patients (1 each in Groups II and III) and was related to the pooling of saliva. No change in compliance was observed with manual compression of the electrode. No difference in success was observed between left and right Cx-esophagostomies. Overall success with this technique was 82.8% with a potential for 100% in those with peristomal health graded I–III. Conclusions: The ECG electrode is a technically simple, cost-effective, and widely available device, instrumental in addressing the problem of air leak through Cx-esophagostomy during face mask ventilation before intubation.

Background: The footfall and admission rates post-COVID-19 scenario have come down in the case of patients with cardiac problems with larger delays leading to complications as per several studies. Studies have primarily focused on the disruptions due to lockdown but not much study has been done to understand how it has affected the lifestyle of the patients and changed the mentality leading to lower patient arrivals. Objectives: The current study deals with understanding how the patient arrival pattern has changed and what are the factors affecting the same during COVID-19 times. Materials and Methods: Analysis of the data for patients with acute coronary syndrome from April to June for pre (2019)- and post (2020)-COVID-19 times admitted to a government cardiology and cardiac care hospital is studied for patient-based and accessibility-based parameters. Results: A significant reduction in admissions (4230-880) with higher arrival times from the onset of symptom (80% rise) although the overall mean distance traveled reduced (63.8–47.4 km) leading to greater health risks. Furthermore, problems due to physical inactivity, diabetes, smoking, and drinking have also risen by about 3%–5% in each case. Conclusion: The need for better health-care system connectivity and the need for online platforms-based consultation systems, especially in times of such a pandemic have been highlighted. The results from this study will be helpful in addressing the issues related to delayed care for heart patients, thereby helping in reducing the mortality rate and improving overall health.

The Internet of things (IoT) is a wireless network designed to perform specific tasks and plays a crucial role in various fields such as environmental monitoring, surveillance, and healthcare. To address the limitations imposed by inadequate resources, energy, and network scalability, this type of network relies heavily on data aggregation and clustering algorithms. Although various conventional studies have aimed to enhance the lifespan of a network through robust systems, they do not always provide optimal efficiency for real-time applications. This paper presents an approach based on state-of-the-art machine-learning methods. In this study, we employed a novel approach that combines an extended version of principal component analysis (PCA) and a reinforcement learning algorithm to achieve efficient clustering and data reduction. The primary objectives of this study are to enhance the service life of a network, reduce energy usage, and improve data aggregation efficiency. We evaluated the proposed methodology using data collected from sensors deployed in agricultural fields for crop monitoring. Our proposed approach (PQL) was compared to previous studies that utilized adaptive Q-learning (AQL) and regional energy-aware clustering (REAC). Our study outperformed in terms of both network longevity and energy consumption and established a fault-tolerant network.

Abstract Objective To identify variables associated with a patients’ ability to reproducibly hold their breath for deep-inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) radiotherapy (RT) and to develop a predictive model for DIBH eligibility. Methods This prospective, single-institution, IRB-approved observational study included women with left-sided breast cancer treated between January 2023 and March 2024. Patients underwent multiple breath-hold sessions over 2–3 consecutive days. DIBH waveform metrics and clinical factors were recorded and analysed. Logistic mixed modelling was used to predict DIBH eligibility, and a temporal validation cohort was used to assess model performance. Results In total, 253 patients were included, with 206 in the model development cohort and 47 in the temporal validation cohort. The final logistic mixed model identified increasing average breath-hold duration (OR, 95% CI: 0.308, 0.104–0.910. p = 0.033) and lower amplitude (OR, 95% CI: 0.737, 0.641–0.848. p

Abstract The escalating antibiotic resistance in mycobacterial species poses a significant threat globally, necessitating an urgent need to find alternative solutions. Bacteriophage-derived endolysins, which facilitate phage progeny release by attacking bacterial cell walls, present promising antibacterial candidates due to their rapid lytic action, high specificity and low risk of resistance development. In mycobacteria, owing to the complex, hydrophobic cell wall, mycobacteriophages usually synthesize two endolysins: LysinA, which hydrolyzes peptidoglycan; LysinB, which delinks mycolic acid-containing outer membrane and arabinogalactan, releasing free mycolic acid. In this study, we conducted domain analysis and functional characterization of a novel LysinB from RitSun, an F2 sub-cluster mycobacteriophage from our phage collection. Several key properties of RitSun LysinB make it an important antimycobacterial agent: its ability to lyse Mycobacterium smegmatis from without, a higher than previously reported specific activity of 1.36 U/mg and its inhibitory effect on biofilm formation. Given the impermeable nature of the mycobacterial cell envelope, dissecting RitSun LysinB at the molecular level to identify its cell wall-destabilizing sequence could be utilized to engineer other native lysins as fusion proteins, broadening their activity spectrum.

Patients with metastatic breast cancer often have respiratory symptoms due to various causes. Trastuzumab is a drug used in the treatment of HER2/neu over-expressing breast cancer patients. Organising pneumonia is a type of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia that mimics infection or progressive disease and can be difficult to diagnose in the setting of malignancy. Making a correct diagnosis is of extreme importance since any delay in the treatment can result in significant adverse patient outcome. Here, we have described a case of organising pneumonia associated with the use of trastuzumab in metastatic breast cancer patients. On the basis of clinical data, including findings such as a decreased PaO2 level and findings on chest CT scan, these patients were diagnosed with drug-induced organising pneumonia. Although it is a rare adverse event associated with trastuzumab, it may cause rapid deterioration without preceding symptoms; hence, even though it is very rare, with an incidence of less than 2%, it is still crucial to intervene so as to prevent the occurrence of such an unfavourable outcome by means of close observation and early diagnosis along with an early withdrawal of the drug and an immediate commencement of corticosteroid therapy.

Abstract Background Treatment with regorafenib, a multiple-kinase inhibitor, to manage metastatic colorectal cancers (mCRCs) shows a modest improvement in overall survival but is associated with severe toxicities. Thus, to reduce regorafenib-induced toxicity, we used regorafenib at low concentration along with a dual JAK/HDAC small-molecule inhibitor (JAK/HDACi) to leverage the advantages of both JAK and HDAC inhibition to enhance antitumor activity. The therapeutic efficacy and safety of the combination treatment was evaluated with CRC models. Methods The cytotoxicity of JAK/HDACi, regorafenib, and their combination were tested with normal colonic and CRC cells exhibiting various genetic backgrounds. Kinomic, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, cell cycle, and apoptosis analyses were performed to evaluate the cellular functions/molecular alterations affected by the combination. Efficacy of the combination was assessed using patient-derived xenograft (PDX) and experimental metastasis models of CRC. To evaluate the interplay between tumor, its microenvironment, and modulation of immune response, MC38 syngeneic mice were utilized. Results The combination therapy decreased cell viability; phosphorylation of JAKs, STAT3, EGFR, and other key kinases; and inhibited deacetylation of histone H3K9, H4K8, and alpha tubulin proteins. It induced cell cycle arrest at G0-G1 phase and apoptosis of CRC cells. Whole transcriptomic analysis showed that combination treatment modulated molecules involved in apoptosis, extracellular matrix-receptor interaction, and focal adhesion pathways. It synergistically reduces PDX tumor growth and experimental metastasis, and, in a syngeneic mouse model, the treatment enhances the antitumor immune response as evidenced by higher infiltration of CD45 and cytotoxic cells. Pharmacokinetic studies showed that combination increased the bioavailability of regorafenib. Conclusions The combination treatment was more effective than with regorafenib or JAK/HDACi alone, and had minimal toxicity. A clinical trial to evaluate this combination for treatment of mCRCs is warranted.

Mathematics - Statistics Theory - Abstract
In various applied areas such as reliability engineering, molecular biology, finance, etc., the measure of uncertainty of a probability distribution plays an important role. In the present work, we consider the estimation of a function of the scale parameter, namely entropy of many exponential distributions having unknown and unequal location parameters with a common scale parameter. For this estimation problem, we have considered bowl-shaped location invariant loss functions. The inadmissibility of the minimum risk invariant estimator (MRIE) is proved by proposing a non-smooth improved estimator. Also, we have obtained a smooth estimator which improves upon the MRIE. As an application, we have obtained explicit expressions of improved estimators for two well-known loss functions namely squared error loss and linex loss. Further, we have shown that these estimators can be derived for other important censored sampling schemes. At first, we obtained the results for the complete and i.i.d. sample. We have seen that the results can be applied for (i) record values, (ii) type-II censoring, and (iii) progressive Type-II censoring. Finally, a simulation study has been carried out to compare the risk performance of the proposed improved estimators.

General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology - Abstract
The global network of gravitational-wave observatories now includes five detectors, namely LIGO Hanford, LIGO Livingston, Virgo, KAGRA, and GEO 600. These detectors collected data during their third observing run, O3, composed of three phases: O3a starting in April of 2019 and lasting six months, O3b starting in November of 2019 and lasting five months, and O3GK starting in April of 2020 and lasting 2 weeks. In this paper we describe these data and various other science products that can be freely accessed through the Gravitational Wave Open Science Center at https://gwosc.org. The main dataset, consisting of the gravitational-wave strain time series that contains the astrophysical signals, is released together with supporting data useful for their analysis and documentation, tutorials, as well as analysis software packages., Comment: 27 pages, 3 figures

Mathematics - Number Theory - Abstract
We answer a number of questions of Erd\H{o}s on the existence of arithmetic progressions in $k$-full numbers (i.e. integers with the property that every prime divisor necessarily occurs to at least the $k$-th power). Further, we deduce a variety of arithmetic constraints upon such progressions, under the assumption of the $abc$-conjecture of Masser and Oesterl\'e.

End-users are concerned about protecting the privacy of their sensitive personal data that are generated while working on information systems. This extends to both the data they actively provide including personal identification in exchange for products and services as well as its related metadata such as unnecessary access to their location. This is when certain privacy-preserving technologies come into a place where Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) plays a major role in incorporating such technologies at the fundamental level. Thus, this paper offers an overview of the privacy-preserving mechanisms for layer 3 (i.e. IP) and above that are currently under standardization at the IETF. This includes encrypted DNS at layer 5 classified as DNS-over-TLS (DoT), DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH), and DNS-over-QUIC (DoQ) where the underlying technologies like QUIC belong to layer 4. Followed by that, we discuss Privacy Pass Protocol and its application in generating Private Access Tokens and Passkeys to replace passwords for authentication at the application layer (i.e. end-user devices). Lastly, to protect user privacy at the IP level, Private Relays and MASQUE are discussed. This aims to make designers, implementers, and users of the Internet aware of privacy-related design choices., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, 1 table

Objective: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication after pediatric cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Serum creatinine and biomarkers cannot be continuously monitored. Near- infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) allows continuous assessment of regional tissue oximetry (rSO2) and reflects renal rSO2 when placed on flank overlying kidney. The aim of our study was to establish whether there is a relation between rSO2 values measured by NIRS in early AKI in infants following cardiac surgery. Methods: Renal NIRS was monitored continuously post-operatively for first 24 hours in sixty infants undergoing cardiac surgery. Patients were divided in AKI (n=21) and non-AKI (n=39) groups. Mean blood pressure, oxygen saturation, central venous oxygen saturation, serum lactate, serum uric acid, blood urea, fluid intake and urine output were measured at various time points. Poor outcome was defined as length of intensive care unit and hospital stays and raised mortality. Results: 21 patients developed AKI (35%) by AKIN criteria. AKI group patients had significantly prolonged CPB time (p=0.03) and aortic cross-clamp time (p

Thin films of Ni:ZnO were successfully synthesized by sol-gel spin coating system for 0.5 % and 2.5 % Ni doping concentration on FTO coated substrate. The synthesized films were annealed at 540 °C for 4 h. The annealed thin films were characterized for its electrical, optical and chemical characteristics using UV–Vis, Micro Raman, and FTIR spectroscopy, respectively. The UV–Vis spectra analysis reveals that the energy band gap of deposited films found to be 3.58 eV and 3.51 eV for 0.5 % and 2.5 % Ni:ZnO thin films, respectively. Two significant characteristic peaks identified at 424 cm−1 and 563 cm−1 in Raman spectra. These peaks are attributed to E2high and LO(A1 and E1) modes, which confirms the hexagonal wurtzite phase of Ni:ZnO thin films. Furthermore, the absorption peaks observed at 530 cm−1 and 635 cm−1 in the FTIR spectra are attributed to the characteristic stretching vibrational modes of Zn-O and Ni-O bonds, respectively.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the usual ways the networking research community operates. This article reviews experiences organising and participating in virtual conferences during the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020-2021. Thanks to the broader scope of the Dagstuhl seminar on 'Climate Friendly Internet Research' held in July 2021, here we focus the discussion on state-of-the-art in technologies and practices applied in online events such as conferences, teaching, and other meetings and identify approaches that are successful as well as others that need improvement. We also present a set of best practices and recommendations for the community.

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena ,Astrophysics - Cosmology and Nongalactic Astrophysics - Abstract
We describe a search for gravitational waves from compact binaries with at least one component with mass 0.2 $M_\odot$ -- $1.0 M_\odot$ and mass ratio $q \geq 0.1$ in Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo data collected between 1 November 2019, 15:00 UTC and 27 March 2020, 17:00 UTC. No signals were detected. The most significant candidate has a false alarm rate of 0.2 $\mathrm{yr}^{-1}$. We estimate the sensitivity of our search over the entirety of Advanced LIGO's and Advanced Virgo's third observing run, and present the most stringent limits to date on the merger rate of binary black holes with at least one subsolar-mass component. We use the upper limits to constrain two fiducial scenarios that could produce subsolar-mass black holes: primordial black holes (PBH) and a model of dissipative dark matter. The PBH model uses recent prescriptions for the merger rate of PBH binaries that include a rate suppression factor to effectively account for PBH early binary disruptions. If the PBHs are monochromatically distributed, we can exclude a dark matter fraction in PBHs $f_\mathrm{PBH} \gtrsim 0.6$ (at 90% confidence) in the probed subsolar-mass range. However, if we allow for broad PBH mass distributions we are unable to rule out $f_\mathrm{PBH} = 1$. For the dissipative model, where the dark matter has chemistry that allows a small fraction to cool and collapse into black holes, we find an upper bound $f_{\mathrm{DBH}} < 10^{-5}$ on the fraction of atomic dark matter collapsed into black holes., Comment: https://dcc.ligo.org/P2200139

Computer Science - Distributed, Parallel, and Cluster Computing - Abstract
With the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and a wide range of mobile devices, the conventional cloud computing paradigm faces significant challenges (high latency, bandwidth cost, etc.). Motivated by those constraints and concerns for the future of the IoT, modern architectures are gearing toward distributing the cloud computational resources to remote locations where most end-devices are located. Edge and fog computing are considered as the key enablers for applications where centralized cloud-based solutions are not suitable. In this paper, we review the high-level definition of edge, fog, cloud computing, and their configurations in various IoT scenarios. We further discuss their interactions and collaborations in many applications such as cloud offloading, smart cities, health care, and smart agriculture. Though there are still challenges in the development of such distributed systems, early research to tackle those limitations have also surfaced., Comment: 8 pages

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
Gravitational waves are expected to be produced from neutron star oscillations associated with magnetar giant flares and short bursts. We present the results of a search for short-duration (milliseconds to seconds) and long-duration ($\sim$ 100 s) transient gravitational waves from 13 magnetar short bursts observed during Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA's third observation run. These 13 bursts come from two magnetars, SGR 1935$+$2154 and Swift J1818.0$-$1607. We also include three other electromagnetic burst events detected by Fermi GBM which were identified as likely coming from one or more magnetars, but they have no association with a known magnetar. No magnetar giant flares were detected during the analysis period. We find no evidence of gravitational waves associated with any of these 16 bursts. We place upper bounds on the root-sum-square of the integrated gravitational-wave strain that reach $2.2 \times 10^{-23}$ $/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ at 100 Hz for the short-duration search and $8.7 \times 10^{-23}$ $/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ at $450$ Hz for the long-duration search, given a detection efficiency of 50%. For a ringdown signal at 1590 Hz targeted by the short-duration search the limit is set to $1.8 \times 10^{-22}$ $/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$. Using the estimated distance to each magnetar, we derive upper bounds on the emitted gravitational-wave energy of $3.2 \times 10^{43}$ erg ($7.3 \times 10^{43}$ erg) for SGR 1935$+$2154 and $8.2 \times 10^{42}$ erg ($2.8 \times 10^{43}$ erg) for Swift J1818.0$-$1607, for the short-duration (long-duration) search. Assuming isotropic emission of electromagnetic radiation of the burst fluences, we constrain the ratio of gravitational-wave energy to electromagnetic energy for bursts from SGR 1935$+$2154 with available fluence information. The lowest of these ratios is $3 \times 10^3$., Comment: 30 pages with appendices, 5 figures, 10 tables

KAGRA, the underground and cryogenic gravitational-wave detector, was operated for its solo observation from February 25th to March 10th, 2020, and its first joint observation with the GEO 600 detector from April 7th -- 21st, 2020 (O3GK). This study presents an overview of the input optics systems of the KAGRA detector, which consist of various optical systems, such as a laser source, its intensity and frequency stabilization systems, modulators, a Faraday isolator, mode-matching telescopes, and a high-power beam dump. These optics were successfully delivered to the KAGRA interferometer and operated stably during the observations. The laser frequency noise was observed to limit the detector sensitivity above a few kHz, whereas the laser intensity did not significantly limit the detector sensitivity.

Fairness considerations have motivated new clustering problems and algorithms in recent years. In this paper we consider the Priority Matroid Median problem which generalizes the Priority $k$-Median problem that has recently been studied. The input consists of a set of facilities $\mathcal{F}$ and a set of clients $\mathcal{C}$ that lie in a metric space $(\mathcal{F} \cup \mathcal{C},d)$, and a matroid $\mathcal{M}=(\mathcal{F},\mathcal{I})$ over the facilities. In addition each client $j$ has a specified radius $r_j \ge 0$ and each facility $i \in \mathcal{F}$ has an opening cost $f_i$. The goal is to choose a subset $S \subseteq \mathcal{F}$ of facilities to minimize the $\sum_{i \in \mathcal{F}} f_i + \sum_{j \in \mathcal{C}} d(j,S)$ subject to two constraints: (i) $S$ is an independent set in $\mathcal{M}$ (that is $S \in \mathcal{I}$) and (ii) for each client $j$, its distance to an open facility is at most $r_j$ (that is, $d(j,S) \le r_j$). For this problem we describe the first bicriteria $(c_1,c_2)$ approximations for fixed constants $c_1,c_2$: the radius constraints of the clients are violated by at most a factor of $c_1$ and the objective cost is at most $c_2$ times the optimum cost. We also improve the previously known bicriteria approximation for the uniform radius setting ($r_j := L$ $\forall j \in \mathcal{C}$)., Comment: 22 pages, 2 figures
