Based on the ligand 1,2-H2bdc (1,2-H2bdc = 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid), three 2D coordination polymers [Mn(1,2-bdc)]n (1), [Cu(1,2-bdc)]n (2) and [Co3(OH)2(1,2-bdc)2]n (3), have been prepared and characterized. In comparison with the mononuclear Mn unit of compound 1, paddle-wheel binuclear Cu2(CO2)4 and trinuclear Co3(OH) building units are observed in 2 and 3, respectively. Also, the bdc2− ligands adopt different coordination modes in the three compounds. The resulting two frustrated lattices have been observed, such as the triangular lattice for 2 and the Kagomé lattice for 3, and thus, both complexes 2 and 3 show spin frustrated antiferromagnetic properties. In addition, the magnetic hysteresis loops reveal the existence of the long range ordering in 2 and 3. Comparatively, the magnetic measurements indicate that compound 1 exhibits a weak antiferromagnetic interaction, and the fit of the variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data to the empirical equation leads to the following parameters: J = −0.80(1) cm−1 and g = 2.02. Three new B-Anderson type polyoxometalates, [(C6H5NO2)2Ln(H2O)6](CrMo6O24H6)·2C6H5NO26H2O (Ln=Sm 1, Dy 2 and Er 3), have been synthesized in aqueous solution and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, UV spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Crystal structure analysis reveals that these three compounds have the same composition and are isostructural, assembled by B-Anderson type polyoxoanion [CrMo6O24H6]3-, rare-earth ions, and ligands. UV spectroscopy shows that 1 is stable when pH is 4.50-5.83. The fluorescence spectra of 2 indicate that both rare-earth ions Dy3+ and pyridine-4-carboxylic acid ligands function in the charge transition of the compound [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new B-Anderson-type heteropoly compound [Cu 2 (phen) 2 (CH 3 COO) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] [HAl(OH) 6 (Mo 6 O 18 )]  ·  2.5H 2 O containing binuclear copper(II) coordination ions has been synthesized by reaction of AlCl 3   ·  6H 2 O, Na 2 MoO 4   ·  2H 2 O, glacial acetic acid, 1,10-phenanthroline and CuCl 2   ·  2H 2 O in methanol--water mixed solution and characterized by IR, UV-Vis spectra, TG-DTA analysis and X-ray crystallography. From X-ray single-crystal structural analysis, the title compound crystallizes in a triclinic lattice, P space group, with a   =  13.379(3), b   =  17.388(4), c   =  18.063(4)  Å, α  =  85.97(3), β  =  69.79(3), γ  =  69.22(3)°, V   =  3680.4(13)  Å 3 , Z   =  2, R 1   =  0.0797, wR 2   =  0.1787. In the title compound, the two Cu 2+ coordination cations are combined with each other through two acetate bridges and have five-coordinate, distorted square-pyramid geometry with N2O3 bonding at each metal. A new composite complex of the general formula [Yb(DMSO)7]H[SiMo12O40] has been synthesized from H4SiMo12O40⋅ nH2O, YbCl3 and DMSO in mixed solvent of acetonitrile and water and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Singe crystal X-ray structure analysis shows that it belongs to monoclinic system, space group P21/ c, with a = 11.685(2) Å, b = 14.969(3) Å, c = 35.037(7) Å, β = 98.50(3)∘, and Z = 4. There is one [Yb(DMSO)7]3+ coordinated cation and one [SiMo12O40]4− polyanion in one structure unit. The organic ligands (DMSO) do coordinate directly with ytterbium(III) to form a distorted pentagonal bipyramid complex ion by coordination bond, then combines to the SiMo12O404− anion by static electric force. The reaction of the mono-lacunary silicotungstate ligand α-K8SiW11O39 · 13H2O with praseodymiumIII cation results in a new Keggin-type derivative K3[(Pr(H2O)4SiW11O39)(NaPr2(H2O)12)(Pr(H2O)4SiW11O39)] · 13.5H2O (1), whose polyanion consists of two crystallographically distinct [Pr(H2O)4SiW11O39]5- building block units and one [NaPr2(H2O)12]7+ subunit, which are connected by alternating praseodymium and sodium centers via the terminal and bridging oxygen atoms from the precursor [α-SiW11O39]8- to construct a 1D infinitely chainlike structure. A Keggin-type tungstocobaltate [Co(2,2′-bipy)3]2H2[CoW12O40] · 9.5H2O was prepared by the hydrothermal method for the first time and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV, EPR spectra, TG-DTA analyses and X-ray single crystal diffraction, showing that the complex consists of a Keggin anion [CoW12O40]6− and two isolated chiral ions [Co(2,2′-bipy)2]2+. The characteristic band of Keggin anion [CoW12O40]6− appears at 298 nm in the UV spectrum. EPR spectra reveal two Co2+ coordination environments in the title compound, high spin state (g=5.1, 4.2) and low spin state (g=2.0). Furthermore, when the temperature increases from 110 K to room temperature, the signal g=5.1 of high spin Co2+ disappears, caused by the negative zero-field splitting. A novel compound, [{Pr(DMSO)6(H2O)}(PMo12O40)·CH3CN]n, has been synthesized and characterized by IR and single crystal X-ray structural analysis. It forms an one-dimensional zigzag chain built from alternating polyanions and cationic units through Mo–Ot–Pr–Ot–Mo links in the crystal. The results of the single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and IR are agreement and both show the metal cation units are coordinately bonded to the Keggin cluster. The low temperature ESR spectrum indicates thermal electron delocalization occurs among the Mo atoms in the compound. The result of CV shows that the title compound undergoes five two-electron reversible reductions and that [PMo12O40]3− anions are active centre for electrochemical redox in the solutions, while matched cations have small effect on electrochemical redox. A novel compound, [{Gd(NMP)6}(PMo12O40)]n, has been synthesized and characterized by IR, and UV spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray structural analysis. It forms an unprecedented one-dimensional zigzag chain built from alternating polyanions and cationic units through Mo–Ot–Gd–Ot–Mo links in the crystal. In the compound, Gd3+ is eight-coordinated with a bicapped trigonal prism geometry environment of oxygen atoms. The results of the single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and IR are agreement and both show the metal cation units are coordinately bonded to the Keggin cluster. A novel hybrid compound, [(CH 3 ) 2 NH 2 ] 6 [Cu(DMF) 4 (GeW 12 O 40 ) 2 ] · 2DMF, has been synthesized from H 4 GeW 12 O 40 · n H 2 O, CuCl 2 and N , N -dimethylformamide (DMF) in aqueous solution and characterized by elemental analysis, UV and IR spectra. Single crystal X-ray structure analysis shows that the crystal consists of a α-Keggin heteropolyanion-supported anion , two free N , N -dimethylformamide molecules, six protonated dimethylamine (DMA) molecules, and that the coordinating atoms of DMF are the oxygen atoms of C=O group. The half Wells-Dawson structure complex NaPW-MoO·11HO has been prepared by reaction of NaWO·2HO, NaMoO·2HO and KHPO in water. A series of transition metal substituted heteropolyoxometalate complexes with ternary Keggin structures of the general formula [TBA]H[PWMoMO (HO)]·3CHO (TBA = tetrabutylammonium; n = 2, M = Fe; n = 4, M = Mn,Co,Cuor Zn), have been synthesized using NaPWMoO·11HO and the transition metal nitrate as the starting materials in aqueous solution. The compounds were characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopy. X.p.s. data indicate that the binding energies of all the elements in the title compounds are lower than those in similar compounds. Abstract: Three new organic–inorganic hybrid compounds constructed from Keggin-type polyanions and transition metal complexes, [Mn(2,2′-bipy)3]1.5[BW12O40Mn(2,2′-bipy)2(H2O)]·0.25H2O (1), [Fe(2,2′-bipy)3]1.5[BW12O40Fe(2,2′-bipy)2(H2O)]·0.5H2O (2) and [Cu2(phen)2(OH)2]2H[Cu(H2O)2{BW12O40Cu0.75(phen)(H2O)}2]·1.5H2O (3), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TGA and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural and both exhibit monosupporting polyoxometalate cluster structure, each of which contains a [BW12O40]5− cluster decorated by one transition metal complex. Compound 3 contains a bisupporting polyoxometalate cluster anion where two {Cu0.75(phen)(H2O)}0.75+ fragments are supported on the polyoxometalate dimer {Cu(H2O)2(BW12O40)2}8−, this represents the first bisupporting polyoxometalate cluster based on a Keggin-type polyoxometalate dimer, which are further packed together via π–π stacking contacts into an extended 1-D chain. Abstract: A one-dimensional coordination polymer [Cu(en)2]2[Cu(en)2(H2O)]2{[Cu(en)2]2[Cu2Si2W22O78]}·4.5H2O (en=ethylenediamine), which represents the first example of one-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid based on the bimolecular Keggin polyoxometalates {[Cu(en)2]2[Cu2Si2W22O78]}8− has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TG and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Abstract: A new inorganic–organic hybrid compound [FTMA]2[Co(NCS)4] (FTMA=ferrocenylmethyltrimethylammonium cation) has been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV, elemental analysis and X-ray crystallography. Co(II) atom has a distorted tetrahedral environment with four N atoms of four NCS− anions. In the solid state there are C–H⋯π interactions between adjacent ferrocenyl cations, which generate one-dimensional (1-D) supramolecular chain, and C–H⋯S hydrogen bonds between [FTMA]+ cations and cobalt thiocyanate anions. Abstract: A new inorganic–organic hybrid compound [O2NBzQL]4[Cd(SCN)4(NCS)2] (O2NBzQL=1-(4′-NO2-benzyl)quinolinium cation) has been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV, elemental analysis and X-ray crystallography. Cd(II) atom has an distorted octahedral environment with an N4S2 donor set. In solid state there are three types of face-to-face π–π interactions between adjacent cations and multiform C–H⋯S and C–H⋯N hydrogen bonds between [O2NBzQL]+ cations and cadmium thiocyanate anions. Abstract: The polyoxometalate-based 1D coordination polymer [Cu(DMF)6][PMoVMoVI 11O40Cu(DMF)4]·DMF 1 was synthesized and characterized by IR, UV spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Each Cu(II) center has a distorted octahedral coordination geometry. Cu(1) center interconnects with two [PMoVMoVI 11O40]4− anion subunits and each [PMoVMoVI 11O40]4− polyoxoanion acts as a didentate ligand to link two Cu centers through two terminal oxygen atoms to form a one-dimensional chain structure. Abstract: Three new polyoxometalate compounds based on the lacunary Keggin anion [α-GeW11O39]8− and the rare earth cations (Ln=NdIII, EuIII, TbIII), [(CH3)4N]2.5H7.5[Eu(GeW11O39)(H2O)2]2 ·4.5H2O (1), [(CH3)4N]2H8[Tb(GeW11O39)(H2O)2]2 ·2.5H2O (2) and [Nd0.5(H2O)2]H0.5[Nd2(GeW11O39)(DMSO)2(H2O)8]·5.5H2O (3), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, inductively coupled plasmas (ICP) analysis, IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The solid-state structures of compounds 1 and 2 consist of one-dimensional linear wires built of [α-GeW11O39]8− anions connected by Eu3+/Tb3+ cations, while in compound 3, the introduction of the organic molecules DMSO (DMSO=dimethyl sulphoxide) leads to a double-parallel chainlike structure constructed by two linear wires {[Nd(1)(GeW11O39)(DMSO)(H2O)2]5−} n linked by Nd3+ coordination cation. Abstract: An unprecedented Keggin-type tungstogermanate dimer bearing dinuclear copper-organic coordination ions {H8[Cu(phen)(μ2-CH3COO)2Cu(phen)(H2O)]2[Ge2W23CuO80]}·24H2O has been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV, ICP analyses, ESR spectra, element analysis, TG and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The compound is built up from a dimeric heteropolyanion constituted by two corner-shared Keggin-type building subunits and two dinuclear copper-organic coordination cations [Cu(phen)(μ2-CH3COO)2Cu(phen)(H2O)]2+, each of which consists two square pyramidal copper-phen ions bridged by two μ2-acetate ligands. Abstract: A chain coordination polymer with the chemical formula {[Cu4L2(H2O)]·H2O} n , has been synthesized by the assembly reaction of K2CuL·1.5H2O and Cu(OAC)2 ·H2O with a 1:1mole ratio in methanol, where H4L=2-hydroxy-3-[(E)-({2-[(2-hydroxybenzoyl)imino]ethyl}imino)methyl] benzoic acid, OAC− =CH3COO−. The crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, the compound has chain molecular structure formed by dissymmetrical tetranuclear units. The magnetic measurements showed that Cu–Cu of the complex exhibit antiferromagnetic interactions, and satisfactory fittings to the observed magnetic susceptibility data were obtained by assuming a binuclear system, and further using molecular field approximation to deal with magnetic exchange interactions between binuclear systems. A dissymmetrical double Schiff base Cu(II) mononuclear complex: CuHL (1) (where H3L is N-3-carboxylsalicylidene-N′-salicylaldehyde-1,2-diaminoethane) and two trinuclear complexes: [CuL(H2O)CoCuL] · H2O · CH3OH (2) and [(CuL)2Ni] · 2H2O (3) have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analyses, IR and electronic spectra. The crystal structures of two heterotrinucler complexes were determined by X-ray analysis. Each dissymmetrical cell unit of the complex 2 contains two heterotrinucler neutral molecules. In each neutral molecule, the central Co2+ ion is located at the site of O6 with a distorted octahedral geometry and one terminal Cu2+ ion at the four-coordination site of N2O2, but the other one at the square-pyramidal environment of N2O3. Each dissymmetrical unit of the complex 3 contains a heterotrinucler neutral molecule, whose structure is similar to that of 2 except two terminal Cu2+ ions both at the inner site of N2O2. The magnetic properties of two heterotrinucler complexes have been determined in the temperature range of 5–300 K, which indicate that the interaction between the central Co2+ ion or Ni2+ ion and the outer Cu2+ ions is antiferromagnetic. The exchange integrals are equal to −26.2 cm−1 for 2 and −50.6 cm−1 for 3. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A novel Keggin unit supported transition metal complex [Cu(4,4′-bipy)]2[SiW12O40{Cu(4,4′-bipy)}4]·(OH)2 ·H2O (1) (4,4′-bipy=4,4′-bipydine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by IR spectroscopy, TG analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The result of the X-ray crystallography analysis exhibits that four chains simultaneously connect with the [SiW12O40]4− units via W–Ot–Cu bridges constructing an infinitely one-dimensional fourfold-chain structure. A novel bilayer metal-organic framework is assembled with a perfect intralayer triangular subnet and ideal interlayer Td arrangement between unprecedented crown-like Co7 cluster units, exhibiting high spin frustration.

Two metal complexes formulated as [Zn(L)(2)](2)·H(2)O (1) and [Bi(L)(NO(3))(2)(CH(3)OH)] (2), where HL=2-acetylpyrazine N(4)-phenylthiosemicarbazone, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, MS, NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Biological studies, carried out in vitro against selected bacteria and the K562 leukemia cell lines, respectively, have shown that the free ligand and its two complexes may be endowed with important biological properties, especially HL with MIC=3.90 μg/mL against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the zinc(II) complex 1 with IC(50)=1.0 μM against K562 leukemia cell lines, respectively. Two NNS tridentate Schiff base ligands of 2-benzoylpyridine S-methyldithiocarbazate (HL(1)) and 2-benzoylpyridine S-phenyldithiocarbazate (HL(2)) and their transition metal complexes [Cu(2)(L(1))(2)(CH(3)COO)](ClO(4)) (1), [Zn(2)(L(1))(2)(ClO(4))(2)] (2), [Zn(L(2))(2)](3) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, MS, NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. In the solid state, each of two Schiff bases remains in its thione tautomeric form with the thione sulfur atom trans to the azomethine nitrogen atom. Under similar prepared conditions, three new complexes showed distinctly different coordination modes depending on their coordinating preferences. Each copper atom in S-bridged dinuclear complex [Cu(2)(L(1))(2)(CH(3)COO)](ClO(4)) (1) is surrounded by five donor atoms in a square-pyramidal fashion (4+1). [Zn(2)(L(1))(2)(ClO(4))(2)] (2) is a dimer in which each zinc atom adopts a seven-coordinate distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry, while mononuclear [Zn(L(2))(2)] (3) has octahedral coordination geometry. Biological studies, carried out in vitro against selected bacteria, fungi, and K562 leukaemia cell line, respectively, have shown that different substituted groups attached at the dithiocarbazate moieties and metals showed distinctive differences in the biological property. Zinc(II) complexes 2 and 3 could distinguish K562 leukaemia cell line from normal hepatocyte QSG7701 cell line. Effect of the title compounds on Mitochondria membrane potential (MMP) and PI-associated fluorescence intensity in K562 leukaemia cell line are also studied. Transition metal complexes Mn(L(1))(2) (1), Mn(L(2))(2) (2), Co(L(3))(2)Cl 4H(2)O (3), Zn(L(3))(2) DMF (4), Co(HL(4))(2)(ClO(4))(2) 3H(2)O (5) and Zn(L(5))(2) DMF (6) where HL(1)=2-acetylpyridine thiosemicarbazone, HL(2)=2-acetylpyridine N(4)-methylthiosemicarbazone, HL(3)=2-benzoylpyridine thiosemicarbazone, HL(4)=2-benzoylpyridine N(4)-methylthiosemicarbazone and HL(5)=2-benzoylpyridine N(4)-phenylthiosemicarbazone, have been synthesized. The complexes 1, 2, 5 and 6 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Rational self-assembly of Sb(2)O(3) and Na(2)WO(4), or (NH(4))(18)[NaSb(9)W(21)O(86)] with transition-metal ions (Mn(2+), Cu(2+), Co(2+)), in aqueous solution under controlled conditions yield a series of sandwich type complexes, namely, Na(2)H(2)[Mn(2.5)W(1.5)(H(2)O)(8)(B-beta-SbW(9)O(33))(2)]32 H(2)O (1), Na(4)H(7)[Na(3)(H(2)O)(6)Mn(3)(mu-OAc)(2)(B-alpha-SbW(9)O(33))(2)]20 H(2)O (OAc=acetate anion) (2), NaH(8)[Na(2)Cu(4)Cl(B-alpha-SbW(9)O(33))(2)]21 H(2)O (3), Na(8)K[Na(2)K(H(2)O)(2){Co(H(2)O)}(3)(B-alpha-SbW(9)O(33))(2)] 10 H(2)O (4), and Na(5)H[{Co(H(2)O)(2)}(3)W(H(2)O)(2)(B-beta-SbW(9)O(33))(2)]11.5 H(2)O (5). These structures are determined by using the X-ray diffraction technique and further characterized by obtaining IR spectra and performing elemental analysis. Structure analysis reveals that polyoxoanions in 1 and 5 comprise of two [B-beta-SbW(9)O(33)](9-) building units, whereas 2, 3, and 4 consist of two isomerous [B-alpha-SbW(9)O(33)](9-) building blocks, which are all linked by different transition-metal ions (Mn(2+), Cu(2+), or Co(2+)) with different quantitative nuclearity. It should be noted that compound 2 represents the first one-dimensional sinusoidal chain based on sandwich like tungstoantimonate building blocks through the carboxylate-bridging ligands.
