A chemical bottom-up approach for single-atomic-layered materials like graphene is attractive due to the possibility of introducing functions. This article includes the synthesis and properties of borophene-oxide and metalladithiolene layers, which are reported as inorganic materials. They have graphene-like two-dimensional networks that enable conjugated structures. Their atomically thin layers are also available by dissolution or synthetic methods. Their two-dimensional electronic features are evaluated from the activation energies for electrical conduction, focusing on the anisotropic features of borophene-oxide layers and the switching abilities of metalladithiolene layers. A 74-year-old Japanese woman with a 1-year history of right preauricular pain and a 2-month history of bleeding from the right ear was admitted to our department. Tumor was observed in the anterior wall in the right external auditory canal. Bony swelling of the right preauricular area was palpated. Computed tomography revealed an ill-defined, osteogenic tumor around the mandibular condyle with a destructive bony lesion involving the temporal bone. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 2.0 × 1.5 × 1.3-cm solid tumor around the mandibular condyle, exhibiting a low-intensity signal on T1-weighted imaging and an isointense central area surrounded by low-signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging. Histological examination of biopsy specimens revealed diffuse-type tenosynovial giant cell tumor (D-TGCT). After the feeding arteries for the tumor were embolized, the patient underwent surgery with combined temporal craniotomy and mandibular condylectomy. The soft and cystic tumor with calcification located in the extradural space was totally resected along with the mandibular condyle. No facial paralysis or recurrence was evident as of 6 months postoperatively. To date, only 23 cases of D-TGCT arising in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with ear involvement have been reported since 2011. Background: Intestinal microinflammation with immune dysfunction due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 reportedly precipitates post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome. This study aimed to elucidate potential risk factors for subsequent development of irritable bowel syndrome, hypothesizing that it is associated with specific symptoms or patient backgrounds. Methods: This single-center retrospective observational study (2020–2021) included adults with confirmed coronavirus disease requiring hospital admission and was conducted using real-world data retrieved from a hospital information system. Patient characteristics and detailed gastrointestinal symptoms were obtained and compared between patients with and without coronavirus disease-induced irritable bowel syndrome. Multivariate logistic models were used to validate the risk of developing irritable bowel syndrome. Moreover, daily gastrointestinal symptoms during hospitalization were examined in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Results: Among the 571 eligible patients, 12 (2.1%) were diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome following coronavirus disease. While nausea and diarrhea during hospitalization, elevated white blood cell count on admission, and intensive care unit admission were associated with the development of irritable bowel syndrome, nausea and diarrhea were identified as risk factors for its development following coronavirus disease, as revealed by the adjusted analyses (odds ratio, 4.00 [1.01–15.84] and 5.64 [1.21–26.31], respectively). Half of the patients with irritable bowel syndrome had both diarrhea and constipation until discharge, and constipation was frequently followed by diarrhea. Conclusions: While irritable bowel syndrome was rarely diagnosed following coronavirus disease, nausea and diarrhea during hospitalization precede the early signs of irritable bowel syndrome following coronavirus disease. Background: Genomic profile analysis using next‐generation sequencing can potentially elucidate the pathogenesis of rare cancers. Ductal adenocarcinoma, a rare subtype of prostate cancer, has an aggressive nature. This is the first study to analyze the genomic profile of ductal adenocarcinoma in an Asian population. Methods: We identified 12 patients newly diagnosed with ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate at two hospitals, and nine patients (75.0%) had the pure type. Genomic assessment was performed using either the PleSSision testing platform or FoundationOne CDx. Results: At least one genomic alteration occurred in 11 patients (91.7%), and the most frequently mutated gene was tumor suppressor protein p53 (TP53), which was found in six cases (50.0%). Alterations characteristic of this cohort were found in four cases (33.3%) of retinoblastoma transcriptional corepressor 1 (RB1), which was only observed in the pure type. Compared to previous study results, the frequency of genetic alterations in the phosphoinositide 3‐kinase (PI3K) pathway (n = 3; 25.0%) and Wnt‐β‐catenin pathway (n = 5; 41.7%) was comparable, but no alterations in the DNA damage repair (DDR) pathway were observed. None of the patients presented high tumor mutation burden or microsatellite instability. Conclusions: We found that the Asian cohort with ductal adenocarcinoma had actionable alterations, and a high frequency of alterations in TP53 and RB1 reflected the aggressive nature of the tumor.
