Abstract

We perform the sewing of two (dual) Ramond reggeon vertices and derive an algorithm by means of which the so obtained four-Ramond reggeon vertex may be explicitly computed at arbitrary oscillator (mass) level. A closed form of the four-vertex is then deduced on the basis of a comparison to all terms obtained by sewing that contain only level zero and one oscillators. 105. Hela huvudet är ju krankt och hela hjärtat är sjukt : Om Lars Levi Laestadius bibelbruk och kyrkokritik

Abstract

Lars Levi Laestadius (1800-1861) was active as a priest in the Swedish church in the northernmost parts of Sweden. After experiencing a transformative and life-changing spiritual breakthrough, which he himself has later called his rebirth and the moment when he received a living faith, he came to gather large audiences and give rise to a revival movement, which still bears his name today. Although Laestadius was active as a priest, he sharply criticized many conditions in the contemporary church. The purpose of this essay has been to investigate whether, and if so how, this criticism as presented in his sermons and writings can be linked to his Bible use, i.e. his reading and interpretation of the Bible and the authority he gives the Bible. For my study, I have closely read a large number of his extant sermons and published writings. The study also briefly summarises the central elements of Laestadius' theology, as well as what he perceives to be the Church's main mission. The study shows how his criticism is based on his use of the Bible and also how, through a far-reaching allegorical interpretation of the Bible, he uses different texts from both the Old and the New Testaments in his argumentation.

Abstract

Artikeln behandlar Erik Dahlberghs syn på Ryssland under de år före det stora nordiska krigets inledning då han var generalguvernör i Livland. Traditionellt har det emellanåt hävdats att Dahlbergh var särskilt uppmärksam på faran för krig med Ryssland, men inte fick något gehör för sina varningar. I artikeln visas, utifrån ett omfattande baltiskt källmaterial, att bilden i själva verket är mycket sammansatt. I samband med den stora ryska ambassadens vistelse i Riga påsken 1697 blev Dahlbergh mycket oroad, men senare klingade hans fruktan av och månaderna före krigsutbrottet sensommaren 1700 lovordade han tsarens rättrådighet. Dahlbergh ville förvisso stärka försvaret av Baltikum, men det var många delar av det fasta försvaret som han ville bygga ut. Karl XII godkände dessutom de flesta av Dahlberghs förslag och ville bara se ordentliga kostnadsberäkningar innan de började genomföras.

107. k-Transmitter Watchman Routes

Abstract

We consider the watchman route problem for a k-transmitter watchman: standing at point p in a polygon P, the watchman can see if intersects P’s boundary at most k times—q is k-visible to p. Traveling along the k-transmitter watchman route, either all points in P or a discrete set of points must be k-visible to the watchman. We aim for minimizing the length of the k-transmitter watchman route. We show that even in simple polygons the shortest k-transmitter watchman route problem for a discrete set of points is NP-complete and cannot be approximated to within a logarithmic factor (unless P=NP), both with and without a given starting point. Abstract

Simple Summary: Targeted therapy targeting the EGFr and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is often combined with chemotherapy in palliative treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. The aim of this population-based cohort study was to examine factors influencing treatment decisions for targeted therapy and their effect on overall survival in palliative metastatic colorectal cancer. The medical costs of targeted therapy if introduced early or late in the palliative setting were also assessed. The results showed no effect of high medical costs on overall survival for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. The medical costs are high and especially so if introduced early in the palliative setting. We suggest that targeted therapy be saved for later lines of therapy in patients with palliative colorectal cancer. (1) Background: Targeted therapy is used alone or together with chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer. The aim of this study was to assess overall survival and medical costs in a cohort of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. (2) Methods: Demographic and clinical characteristics of 337 patients and pathological data of colorectal tumors were retrospectively collected in this population-based study. The overall survival and medical costs for patients receiving chemotherapy plus targeted therapy were compared with those for patients receiving chemotherapy only. (3) Results: Patients administered chemotherapy plus targeted therapy were less frail and had more often RAS wild-type tumors but had higher CEA levels than patients receiving chemotherapy only. No prolonged overall survival could be observed in patients receiving palliative targeted therapy. The medical costs for patients undergoing treatment with targeted therapy were significantly higher than for patients treated only with chemotherapy; they were especially higher in the group receiving targeted therapy early than late in the palliative setting. (4) Conclusions: The use of targeted therapy in metastatic colorectal cancer leads to significantly higher medical costs when used early in the palliative setting. No positive effects of the use of targeted therapy could be observed in this study; therefore, we suggest that targeted therapy be used in later lines of palliative therapy in metastatic colorectal cancer. 146. Serving the community while balancing multiple responsibilities – experiences of working as a paid part-time firefighter

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe experiences of working as a paid part-time firefighter (PTF) in Swedish rural areas. Design/methodology/approach: An inductive explorative design was used, based on interviews with 18 paid PTFs in Sweden. Data were analyzed using qualitative latent content analysis. Findings: Three themes emerged from the interviews and describe paid PTFs’ experiences. The findings provide insights into how firefighters share a strong commitment, how support plays a crucial role, and how training and call-outs contribute to their experiences. Paid PTFs’ experiences are nuanced, ranging from personal limitations and challenges to satisfaction and the contrast with ordinary life. Practical implications: The implications for fire and rescue service organizations are that they can encourage firefighters’ commitment and pride, as well as the commitment and support of their families and main employers. Further, highlighting the importance of support and facilitating flexibility when on call is crucial. Finally, acknowledging and promoting personal development and facilitating an inclusive culture are important factors for both motivation and satisfaction. Originality/value: Paid PTFs are under-represented in the literature, despite the reliance on them in Sweden, and this study begins to address the knowledge gap. To improve retention, it is vital to understand paid PTFs work situation: what motivates them, what barriers they face, and how those challenges influence their experiences.

Abstract

We derive major parts of the eigenvalue spectrum of the operators on the squashed seven-sphere that appear in the compactification of eleven-dimensional supergravity. These spectra determine the mass spectrum of the fields in $AdS_4$ and are important for the corresponding ${\mathcal N} =1$ supermultiplet structure. This work is a continuation of the work in [1] where the complete spectrum of irreducible isometry representations of the fields in $AdS_4$ was derived for this compactification.
