The goal of the aquaponic system was to establish a self-sustaining herbs production in an applied research environment based on a home ornamental aquarium as a nutrient source for the plants. The study was conducted in two different stages. The first stage was to set up an aquarium with ornamental fish. This stage was conducted over a 40 days period (including water cycling). On this stage a 400 liters aquarium was set up then populated with Goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus) and Bronze Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus). During the time needed to set up the aquarium, basil, oregano and parsley seedlings were prepared aside. Upon completing this stage, the seedlings were moved into the grow bed and an aquaponic system was established. Thus, the NO3 - rich water from the fish tank was directed to the grow bed. The working paper will present the steps to establish an ornamental aquarium, and how to turn it afterwards into a natural nutrients factory for a self-sustainable plant crop. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents the study done on the frame model technology and its effects on productivity. The productivity of a bee family is correlated with the hive's productive capacity, the micro-climate conditions and the volume available for the optimal growth of the bee family. For finding solutions that limit the negative influence that a certain hive model has on a bee family, the paper aims to compare the two main frame technologies used in apiculture. The study was made using numerically equal bee families, kept in the same conditions and under the same preventive treatments, with the purpose of determining their productive capacity and development patterns. The paper presents the study done on the frame model technology used for adapting the bees the pedoclimate conditions of Romania. It is based on the observation done on four models, two widely used ones (Dadant and Layenes) and two models than provide conditions closer to the ones the bee hive experiences in nature (Warre and Dellon). Considering the current weather conditions and taking into account that bee family should have a strong development in the spring time to acquire a large quantity of bee forage in the first major harvesting of the year (harvesting canola), we concluded that the pattern of the hive most used in Romania (Dadant hive) no longer meets the requirements. To better understand the development of bee colonies in natural conditions, we began to study swarms of bees who have found shelter in hollow trees in the wilderness. By studding a swarm of bees that form a family in natural conditions (in a hollow tree and without any human intervention), we can see that they prefer a round enclosure and stat building combs from the top down. As bees begin to bring in nectar reserves, honeycomb building will continue so that the queen cans oviposition, while food reserves will be stored in the top of the hive. Bees prefer not to overcome the honeycombs with honey, and concentrate in the center where the area is more easily heated. Best results were observed in hives with an inner diameter of 25-35 cm and a height of 70-120 cm. If we take into account that the winter mat has a diameter of 26 to 30 cm, we can see that these families enclosures in the winter conditions were entirely occupied by the wintering ball and that the displacement occurred only vertically. Higher temperatures were observed above the wintering ball so than honey is kept a higher temperature, and thus keep its liquid state and be ready for consumption by the bees. If the temperature drops below a certain level and the bees only have food reserves in one side of the ball, they cannot move left or right to consume the honey and starve, even though they have food reserves in the hive. The conclusion reached after the research is that the Layens frame with the internal dimensions of 310x370 mm and a total area of 11.47 dm2 best suits this purpose, but the technology of the Layens frame model can be adapted to the pedoclimate conditions of Romania. The phytoplankton is a fundamental link in the trophic chain and is one of the indicators to assess the status aquatic ecosystem. To assess the qualitative and quantitative structure of Phytoplankton in September 2012 has been used samples collected from marine area of Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve with plastic water sampler (Niskin type). The qualitative structure of phytoplankton was characterized by the presence of 53 species belonging to six algal taxonomic groups (Bacillariophyta, Dinoflagellata, Chlorophyta, Cyanobacteria, Chrysophyta and Euglenophyta). The diatoms have dominated the number of qualitative structure of phytoplankton species in most areas, their share ranging between 39% and 54%. The dinoflagellates were the second group that diversity, the proportion ranging from 27% and 44%. September 2012 was characterized by values of densities between 67 - 453⋅10³ cel⋅l-1 and for biomasses between 0.22 - 1.08 g⋅m-3. The diatoms have dominated for more than 70% in density and 50% in biomass. The conclusion of this case study, confirmed by previous researches, is that the phytoplankton is not presented as an integral whole viable, but is rather the appearance of a heterogeneous floating tanatocenosis. The goal of the project was to establish a low-tech cheap sustainable food production system that combines traditional fish farming with hydroponics (cultivating plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil), in a symbiotic environment. We used local fish and plants species only. The project was conducted in two different stages: "construction" stage and "fish" stage. The goal of the start-up stage was to build the grow bed for the plants, to establish the water circuit, to set the lights and to prepare the fish tank for the fishes. For the "fish" stage we used local fish species (carp and caras). The goal of the stage was to build the nitrogen-fixing bacteria colonies in order to provide a constant NO3- rich water (around 50 mg/l), with as low as possible traces of NH3/NH4+ and NO2- (below 0,5 mg/l). This was established by testing the NH3/NH4+, NO2- and NO3- values under several environmental changes (pH, temperature, lighting, quantity of fish in the tank etc.) in order to identify the best combinations to achieve the goal. Upon completion of the second stage we'll test different local species of plants with the already established system. The goal of the project is to find the best combinations of fish, plants and environmental conditions in order to have a cheap, sustainable symbiotic food production system, easy to be replicated by anyone. Analysis of turnover involves the causal relationships between different factors (quantity, quality and structure) and changes in economic and financial phenomenon. Such a study is required arguments for a set of management measures geared towards improving work farms analyzed. The evolution over time in turnover was based on known statistical models. The period considered in the study farm is 2007-2008, and turnover analysis refers to the business of delivering fresh and frozen fish. Following the study found that modification of fish production during the two years the level of the average price of delivery and, ultimately, turnover of the holding. Thus in 2007, fresh fish represented 56% of the total quantity of fish delivered, in 2008 the share of fresh fish delivered was only 45.5% of the total production of fish delivered. This change in structure has helped to increase overall turnover resulting from the fish market in the year 2008 consisted of turnover from the sales of fresh fish 43.7%, 56.3% difference is that of fish delivered frozen. The consumption of aquatic products of Romania for the last ten years it has grown tremendously and will continue to increase in the next years. Therefore, food safety and control become a great concern of the consumers. In addition to risk to public health, food crises lead to economic crises due to direct and indirect (damage to reputation and brand name) costs of product recall. The reinforcement of confidence in aquatic products depends on good fishery supply chain management and traceability. A traceability system is considered as an effective tool to guarantee safety in fish products and improve the supply chain transparency. The trends at the international level are the implementation of the systems that can track the traceability of fish product using the new ITC technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
