120. Postural stability -- a comparison between rowers and field sport athletes.

Abstract

Postural stability (PS) is an important function for maintaining equilibrium during periods of standing still, locomotion, and any motor activities that require high degree of balance. High PS is essential in different sports for the regulation of voluntary movement and for improving athletic physical condition and performance. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the static PS of elite rowing athletes and field sport athletes. Methods: A total of 90 elite athletes (age: 23.9 ± 1.97 years; body height: 174.9 ± 8.9 cm; body weight: 67.7 ± 12.03 kg) were divided into Rowing (N = 47) and Field sport (N = 43) athlete groups. Static PS parameters were assessed with a static double-leg and single-leg standing stability test on a force plate platform. Results: The multivariate analysis of variance showed a general stability difference between the groups (F = 13.255; P ≤ 0.0001), in double leg stability (F = 16.735; P ≤ 0.0001), and left leg (F = 15.097; P ≤ 0.0001) stability parameters. When analyzing variables separately, significant statistical differences were observed in favor of the Rowing group in double leg sway area (p = 0.017; ES = -0.07), double leg center of force (COF) traveled way (p ≤ 0.0001; ES = -27.42), length function of surface (p ≤ 0.0001; ES = -26.86), right leg ML displacement (p = 0.030; ES = -0.46), left leg sway area (p = 0.030; ES = -0.44), left leg COF traveled way (p ≤ 0.0001; ES = -60.63), left leg AP displacement (p = 0.043; ES = -0.44). Conclusion: These results underline the differences in rowing and field sport athletes in terms of static PS. The characteristics of sport and competition may affect PS, and it is important to adjust training modalities for the required level of PS in every sport, especially in rowing. 133. A Prospective Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial of Autogenous Bone Versus β-Tricalcium Phosphate Graft Alone for Bilateral Sinus Elevation: Histologic and Histomorphometric Evaluation.

Abstract

Purpose: Two different graft materials, β-tricalcium phosphate (Cerasorb) and autogenous bone, were used in the same patient. The objective was to determine whether donor site morbidity could be avoided by using pure-phase β-tricalcium phosphate (Cerasorb). Materials and Methods: Bilateral sinus grafting was performed on 20 selected patients; Cerasorb was used on the experimental side, and autogenous bone was used on the control side. In each patient, one side was randomly designated the experimental side. In 10 of the 20 patients, the maxilla reconstruction included sinus grafting and onlay bone grafting. Implants were placed 6 months after the procedure. In addition to routine panoramic radiographs, in 10 of the 20 patients, 2- and 3-dimensional computerized tomographic examinations were performed pre- and postoperatively and after implantation. Eighty bone biopsy specimens were taken at the time of implant placement. Results: Histologically and histomorphometrically, there was no significant difference between the experimental and control grafts in terms of the quantity and rate of ossification. For each histologic sample, the total surface area, the surface area that consisted of bone, and the surface area that consisted of graft material were measured in mm2, and bone and graft material were analyzed as percentages of the total. The mean percentage bone areas were 36.47% ± 6.9% and 38.34% ± 7.4%, respectively; the difference was not significant (P = .25). Discussion and Conclusion: Comparisons with other studies reveal that β-tricalcium phosphate (Cerasorb) is a satisfactory graft material, even without autogenous bone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The aim of this research was to compare 2 different graft materials, β-tricalcium phosphate (Cerasorb) and autogenous bone, used in the same patient. Bilateral sinus grafting was performed on 4 selected patients; Cerasorb only was used on the experimental side, and autogenous bone only was used on the control side. In all 4 patients, the maxilla was atrophied to such an extent that the reconstruction included not only sinus grafting but also onlay plasty. The procedure was followed by implant placement 6 months later. In addition to routine panoramic radiographs, 2- and 3-dimensional computed tomographic (CT) examinations were performed pre- and postoperatively and after implantation. Information from CTs is necessary when alveolar bone atrophy is extensive, complications appear probable, and in difficult cases, when exact documentation is important. A total of 16 bone biopsies were taken at the time of implant placement. The histologic and histomorphometric results indicated that when the formation of new bone was slow, it was slow on both sides; when it was fast, then it was fast on both sides. Individual patient factors strongly influenced the fates of the various graft materials in the organism. Comparisons of the present results with the findings of other investigators demonstrated that β-tricalcium phosphate is a satisfactory graft material, even without autogenous bone. Abstract

In the leaf extracts of two plant species (Quercus robur L. and Phaseolus vulgaris L.),peroxidase (POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities have been measured by the methods ofShannon et al (1966) and Flurkey and Jen (1978). The oxidative activities regarded as semi-empiricalbiochemical variables have distributions in the plant foliage and between them a linear correlation hasbeen observed. In this work the resultant oxidative activities of POD and PPO isoenzymes of plantfoliages, the measuring uncertainties of their values and their correlation are interpreted. For theeffects of cold shock and lack of illumination, significant alterations in the correlation have beenrevealed that are also reflected by the parameters of the regression. The correlation of POD and PPOhas been established to be stress sensitive by the application of covariance analysis (ANCOVA).

Abstract

A nagy genetikai potenciállal rendelkező tejhasznú szarvasmarha-állományok tartása nagy szakértelmet, magas szintű szakképzettséget követel meg egy modern gazdaság valamennyi dolgozójától. Az évről-évre növekvő tejtermelés fenntartása, az állatok genetikailag determinált teljesítményének gyakorlati körülmények között való realizálása számos tényezőtől függ. Ezek közül az egyik legfontosabb a szakszerű takarmányozás, ugyanis az ilyen szintű tejtermelés jelentősen megnöveli a tehenek energia- és tápanyagigényét. Éppen ezért a legnagyobb odafigyelés ellenére is gyakran kialakul negatív energiamérleg bőtejelő szarvasmarhákban a laktáció első heteiben. A megfelelő takarmányozási stratégiának az a célja, hogy ez az ún. fiziológiás NEB minél kisebb mértékű legyen és minél rövidebb ideig tartson, ezáltal az állat minél hamarabb regenerálódjon. Helytelen takarmányozás következtében a NEB súlyosabb fokú lesz és az ellést követően hosszabb ideig fennmarad, amely különböző energia- és anyagforgalmi betegségek (zsírmobilizációs betegség, ketosis, bendőacidosis), illetve szaporodásbiológiai zavarok (elhúzódik az involúció, ezáltal az ellést követő újbóli ciklusbalendülés, kitolódik a következő eredményes termékenyítés időpontja, meghosszabbodik a két ellés között eltelt idő) kialakulásához vezethet. A beteg tehenek tejtermelése drasztikusan csökken, a tej beltartalmi paraméterei romlanak, melyek már önmagukban is jelentős gazdasági kárt okoznak, nem beszélve a beteg állatok gyógykezeléséről, illetve a hasznos élettartam csökkenéséről. Az anyagcsere-profil vizsgálatok célja – melyek gyakorlati kivitelezésével egy hazai holstein-fríz tejhasznú szarvasmarha-állomány példáján keresztül ismerkedtem meg – az állomány energetikai státuszának felmérése, valamint a takarmányozással összefüggő, a tejtermelést és a szaporodási mutatókat károsan befolyásoló anyagforgalmi betegségek előfordulásának megállapítása – lehetőleg még szubklinikai stádiumban –, továbbá azok okainak feltárása, megszüntetésük és megelőzésük lehetőségeire való javaslattétel. Egy hazai gazdaságban, 2007-ben és 2010-ben végzett helyszíni vizsgálatok során mindkét alkalommal inhomogén kondíciót, rendellenes bélsár konzisztenciát, alapvetően megfelelő minőségű tömegtakarmányokat, kielégítő étvágy mellett takarmányszelekciót, valamint rossz lábvég-egészségi állapotot találtunk. A laboratóriumi vizsgálatok eredményeit összefoglalva mindkét alkalommal fokozott májsejt igénybevételt és hiányos karotin-ellátottságot tapasztaltunk valamennyi vizsgált csoportban. Némi előrelépés történt a szubklinikai ketosis visszaszorítása terén, ugyanis míg 2007-ben a frissen ellett és a fogadó csoportban is előfordult, addig 2010-ben már csak az előbbiben jelentkezett a betegség. Ugyanakkor a 2007-ben tapasztalt normoglykaemiához és az aránylag elfogadható fehérje-ellátottsághoz képest 2010-ben a fogadó és a nagytejű csoportban is nagy számmal jelentkezett hypoglykaemia, illetve az ellés után vizsgált valamennyi csoportban bőséges fehérje-ellátottságot állapítottunk meg. A sav-bázis anyagcsere tekintetében is romlott a helyzet a két szemle között eltelt időben, ugyanis míg 2007-ben csak az ellés előtti tehenekben, addig 2010-ben az előbbiek mellett már a frissen ellett állatokban is enyhe savterhelést lehetett megállapítani. Az energiaegyensúly megteremtésével és fenntartásával, a mindenkori igényekhez igazodó, szakszerű takarmányozással az előbbiekben említett betegségek kialakulásának kockázata minimálisra csökkenthető és garantálható a termelés gazdaságossága. The aim of this study was to perform metabolic profile test at a large scale dairy farm in Hungary. The examinations were carried out because of the low milk production and reproduction levels, and the lot of animal’s death. The blood and urine samples were taken from different groups of clinically healthy cows with different stage of production and were examined at the laboratory of the Szent István University Faculty of Veterinary Science Department of Animal Hygiene, Herd Health and Veterinary Ethology. The results of the examinations indicated nonhomogen body conditions, irregular fecal consistences, normal appetite with forage-selection, feet diseases, protein surplus, hypoglycaemia, hyperketonaemia, subclinical ketosis, increased fat mobilisation, liver cell injuries, carotin deficiency and light acid surplus. Analysing the results of the laboratory examinations and the farm data we could state that the main reason of the metabolic disorders occuring in the examined farm is the energy deficiency around parturition. The energy intake should meet the demand of the cows. This is the most important to reach the energy balance. To achieve this, short and long term advices were given. The most important short term advice is to form production groups of cows according to their daily milking production and state of gestation. It is reasonable to score the body condition of the cows monthly at the same time with the milk production test. Expert advice was given for proper feeding technology of the different groups, for the physical characteristics of the forage portion and for the components. Special attention was paid to the dry matter, energy, protein, mineral matter and fibre contents of the daily ration. In this way important advices were given also to optimise protein intake and acid-base balance which are closely related with energy balance.
