Whilst banks are exposed to sovereign risk, sovereigns are exposed to bank risk. This Work Project investigates the linkage between both, i.e., the sovereign-bank nexus. Focusing on a sample of 11 European countries during 2014-2020, evidence supporting a positive response of banks’ home country sovereign debt holdings to increases in sovereign bond spreads and decreases in profitabilityis presented. It is also shown that banks’ solvency over this period was connected to their home country sovereign bond spreads. Lastly, adding a sample of 40 banks, it is confirmed that the sovereign-bank link age was still in place during the 2017-2020period.

Imperialismo. Textos de imprensa. Abstract: The texts published by Eça de Queirós (1845 - 1900) in the newspaper Gazeta de Portugal marked the beginning of an extensive trajectory of his contributions to the press. Throughout his life, the author published works of diverse formats and several themes in newpapers and magazines. One of the reccurring subjects of his publications was the expansion and administration of the Portuguese Empire. In the second half of the 19th century, the imperialist policies of the Portuguese Empire demonstrated to be ineffective compared to the colonial expansion of other European nations. Therefore, intellectuals of the time reflected and reevaluated those practices under the light of new demands brought by the changing times. The goal of the work herein is to identify how Eça understood the formation and preservation of the empires, specifically, the Portuguese Seaborne Empire. This is accomplished by analyzing publications from the beginning of his career that were printed between 1866 and 1872 in the periodicals Gazeta de Portugal, Distrito de Évora and As Farpas. From the aforementioned period, the publications were chosen adopting the Carlos Reis (2001) criteria to define press publications: written work published in periodicals without a clear storyline such as essays and editorials. Keywords: Eça de Queirós. Imperialism. Press publications

- Abstract
Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) is a term used to designate a neurological disorder of the visual pathways impacting visual processes at any given level (Lueck et al., 2019). Due to the advances n perinatal and medicinal care, CVI’s occurrence has increased significantly over the last years (Chokron & Dutton, 2016). The condition almost always entails aggregated functional vision impairments, i.e., limitations on the use of binocular vision during everyday tasks (Dutton, 2015). CVI can have effects on school achievements if undetected. Early detection is thus key to offer appropriate aids to avoid a negative impact on learning processes. The aim of this project is to develop a large-scale screener at the beginning of formal schooling, to identify functional vision impairments early on. For this reason, a set of items assessing different visual functions will be incorporated into the Luxembourgish school monitoring program. Based on a theoretical model of object recognition (Humphreys and Riddoch, 1987), we developed items that can be administered in a classroom setting which target different stages of visual perceptual processing, as well as visual functions connected with both dorsal and ventral streams, visual spatial processing and visual memory. We will present the design of the large-scale screener in relation to the theoretical model, as well as the rationale used to include or exclude various perceptual visual functions in the final test. Furthermore, we will explain the foreseen data collection and tool validation processes.

- Abstract
We have developed an improved approach to the protected Corey lactone bromoalkyne with a significant increase in yield (35% and 37% in four steps) in comparison with our previous approach (18% over five steps). These compounds serve as starting materials for a novel, simple and reliable synthesis of alfaprostol key intermediate ynol via Br/Mg exchange (72%). The stereoselective effect of BINOL was investigated. We found that influencing stereoselectivity is possible; as to the matter of the S/R isomer ratio, however, a significant reduction in yield of targeted intermediates was observed., Vyvinuli jsme vylepšený postup k chráněnému bromoalkynu Coreyho laktonu s významným zvýšením výtěžku (35 % a 3 7% ve čtyřech krocích) ve srovnání s naším předchozím postupem (18 % v pěti krocích).

The current study examined whether an attentional bias exists for reproduction-related visual cues among breast cancer survivors and its relationship with fertility concerns and emotional distress. Breast cancer survivors (n = 38) aged 18–40 were compared to 37 healthy women recruited from the general population. Attentional bias was investigated using a visual dot-probe task and response times (RT) were measured. Participants also completed several questionnaires, including the Reproductive Concerns After Cancer Scale (RCACS) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Biased cognitive processing toward reproduction-related stimuli was observed for all young women. However, attentional bias was a significant predictor of concerns about partner disclosure of fertility status, with higher bias scores associated with higher levels of concern only for breast cancer survivors. The desire to have a (or another) biological child was also a significant predictor of higher concerns related with fertility potential for all young women. Higher vigilance regarding reproduction-related cues seems to lead to higher concerns among women with breast cancer history whose fertility is threatened. This result may have important research and clinical implications. Interventions focused on goal-oriented attention self-regulation and problem-solving can help to manage fertility concerns and distress in the course of the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article will focus on a study carried out during 2017/2018 academic year, within the scope of the “Supervised Teaching Practice II” of the Master in Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Maths and Science in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education. This study aimed to know the attitudes of students in a 6th grade class of basic education towards mathematics before and after the intervention period, in order to compare them and to understand which aspects of the interventional practice may have influenced possible changes in attitudes. To this end, a quantitative methodology was chosen and, as a method of data collection, questionnaires were applied, with closed and open items, before and after the intervention period, as well as interviews with students that most showed differences between these two periods. Although there was no significant difference in the students' attitudes towards the discipline, in general terms the group has evolved with respect to this domain. The results, in addition to showing that students feel more supported when there are more teachers present in the classroom, also show that the type of activities that were developed during the intervention period - exploratory activities using manipulable materials - constitutes extra motivation for students to get involved in mathematical work in the classroom.

This study aimed to compare measures of religiosity and spirituality in the experience of positive and negative emotions. For this purpose, a measure of non-spiritual religiosity (Religious Sense Scale) was developed. Method: The study has been conducted on a sample of 279 participants aged between 19 and 69 (M=24.42, SD=9.463) who completed a questionnaire that included the Religious Sense Scale, the Portuguese version of the Spiritual Well-being Questionnaire and the abridged Portuguese version of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule. Findings: The was found to have excellent metrical properties for the measurement of religiosity or “religious sense”. Religious individuals differ from spiritual ones in the experience of emotions: spirituality tends to a greater experience of positive affect and religiosity to negative affect. published

The report shows my intervention at High School Poeta Joaquim Serra, in the academic year 2018-2019, integrating the ideal period for the exposure and acquisition of pedagogical and personal skills related to the subject of Physical Education. Towards the fact that it represents culturally and socially the physical activities in this curricular context, I referred to culture and leadership as essential for the recognized good functioning of the institution. However, we found a problem related to the discipline in elementary school, whose results from the action research study allowed to suggest improvements in teaching focused on the support of a specialist, purchase of the necessary materials and opening of continuous formation for classroom teachers. I acted within the discipline group and in school activities, suggesting reformulations in the guiding documents and school sport routines. Within the pedagogical practice, my performance in school sports, in the teaching and in the management of the class, stood out especially. Understanding the direct relationship between areas, the internship and the report required reflective and critical thinking of what it is to create, plan, design, implement, conduct and evaluate. That way, by teaching and learning from the process, I created a personal and professional awareness in order to continue to evolve.

News, N.º 39 (2019): Revista Onco.News

Corporate social responsibility is a concept present in companies that aim to raise their morals of social progress, respect fundamental rights, protect the environment, and take into consideration the interests of their consumers. The involvement of companies with social responsibility is likely to capture the attention of consumers who are concerned with the aspects mentioned above. The purpose of this research is to evaluate whether corporate social responsibility impacts consumer attitudes and behaviours, regarding the sharing of information by companies about the presence of palm oil in their products and the consequences that that the production of this same oil brings to the environment. For this purpose, a study was developed with the objective of perceiving whether consumers are aware of the environmental consequences of palm oil, seek information about this ingredient and if, when presented with the consequences that palm oil production has on the environment, their attitudes and behaviours in relation to their buying and information seeking habits would change. The results show that the the simple fact of providing information about the negative environmental impact of palm oil's production can affect consumers' purchase intentions. This investigation suggests that companies concerned with social responsibility can have an important role to play by facilitating consumer awareness regarding the negative consequences of the production of palm oil.

- Abstract
Prostaglandins (PG) are a group of lipid mediators with several biological activities. Their structure includes a five-membered ring and two lateral chains (alpha and omega- chains). Due to their pharmaceutical and veterinary applications numerous synthetic analogues have been prepared and are described in literature. 13,14-dehydroPG are synthetic analogues including a triple bond in their skeleton which provide them a more preferable biological behaviour. However, these compounds require special approaches for their synthesis and attachment of its omega-chain when compared with allylic PG (double bond at position 13-14 of PG numbering). This review intends to summarize available strategies for the introduction of the omega-chains when a triple bond moiety (at position C13-14) is present.

- Abstract
Insulinomas are the most frequent etiology of hypoglycemia in a non-diabetic patient and the most common functional neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas, with an annual incidence of about 4 cases per million1, 2. The majority of insulinomas are “well-differentiated endocrine tumors” or grade 1 tumors, as defined by World Health Organization3 . Most tumors are benign, solitary and occur sporadically. However, about 10% are associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1)1,2. Despite the majority being benign tumors, hypoglycemic symptoms caused by the hyperinsulinemia are frequently debilitating4 . Whipple triad (hypoglycemia, symptoms of hypoglycemia – either adrenergic or neuroglycopenic – and relief of these symptoms after administration of glucose) is usually present and should alert to the diagnosis2,5. After the diagnosis is made, locating the tumor can be challenging because most tumors are small4 . Nonetheless, locating the tumor is crucial, once the only definite treatment is surgical excision1,2. The majority of patients reach normalization of glucose levels after surgery. Incomplete resection leads to persistent symptoms and although uncommon in sporadic insulinomas, recurrence can be as high as 20% in patients with MEN-1 syndrome6,7.

- Abstract
Prostaglandins are a group of lipid mediators with multiple pharmaceutical and veterinary applications. This thesis describes the efforts made in the development of a new strategy for the synthesis of Alfaprostol ů-chain. More specifically, several attempts were made in the preparation of the propargyl alcohol connection present in this molecule. Literature described two main methodologies for preparation of optically active propargylic alcohols, namely: asymmetric reduction of a propargylic ketone or the asymmetric alkynylation of a carbonyl group. Both mentioned methodologies were studied and applied to target molecule. Stille coupling has been successfully used to afford propargylic ketone susceptible of asymmetric reduction. The direct preparation of propargylic alcohol with adequate stereoselectivity using Corey lactone derivatives and 3- cyclohexylpropanal as starting materials was also deeply studied. Furthermore, it has also been used in the stereoselective studies made afterwards., Fakulta chemicko-technologická, Dokončená práce s úspěšnou obhajobou

Termite dispersal flights (Blattodea: Termitoidae) are influenced by several factors that are intrinsic and extrinsic to colonies and vary according to the environment and target species. This study aimed to evaluate the main characteristics of the dispersal flights of a termite community and the environmental variables related to these flights in a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest, situated in the semiarid region of north‐eastern Brazil. The alates were collected with trays placed on the ground. Sampling was carried out over a year, with weekly trap reviews. Flight peaks started in February; i.e. these events were more frequent and alates from all species were captured. The trays were checked daily for 40 days during this period. A principal coordinate analysis was performed to determine the response variables and, after that, a generalised linear model was performed to analyse the relationship between these variables and environmental variations. Alates of 37 species were captured and the community flight pattern proved to be synchronised and highly temporally concentrated, regardless of family, subfamily or even genera. The daily sampling analysis showed that 97% of species flights occurred between the 13th and 33rd days following the start of the 40 days of daily revisions. The number of flight occurrences and species composition were significantly influenced by the accumulated precipitation over 72 h and air density. The latter variable was evaluated for the first time in this type of study. The high synchronism between species may be related to the brief period in which arid and semiarid ecosystems have the correct conditions for alate flights, which is different to alate flight occurrence in tropical rainforests, where the environmental conditions usually allow termites to fly throughout the entire year. - Abstract
Although FHIR has been designed to be easy to implement, it requires knowledge that is still hard to find. We aim to evaluate the use of FHIR in Portuguese projects for the integration of medical devices. Two projects were selected, including easyHealth4Covid (EH4C) and Chronic Diseases Management Platform (CDMP). The evolution of each project and the FHIR resources used were analyzed. 11 different sensors of 5 companies were used in the sum of both projects. Previously, none of them used FHIR to integrate and the teams had little to no experience in doing so. The FHIR Observation resource was used for all. There is a general lack of knowledge of the FHIR standard and terminologies of most of the device companies involved in the projects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The understanding of the neurophysiological processes that occur in the areas that surround the core of a brain infarct is crucial for the creation of new therapies and treatments to improve neuronal recovery. The present study aims to demonstrate that both rodent and human neuronal networks lose their activity under low oxygen conditions and that electrical stimulation can increase the probability of recovery. Hypoxia was induced in rodent and human neurons and the effects of electrical stimulation were assessed in the rat cultures. The results obtained show that neuronal activation, in the form of electrical stimulation, has the potential to maintain the networks at higher levels of activity and, therefore, to improve cell survival. This study will open the way for new treatment strategies based on brain-stimulation to enhance neuronal recovery and will be of large relevance for patients, families, and society.

A amostra inclui 958 estudantes universitários.

The purpose of this review was to clarify the adequacy of the existing measures of religiosity and spirituality at the Portuguese context. A systematic survey was conducted in December 2018 and updated in June 2019 through the electronic databases EBSCO (Fonte Académica, Psyc Artcles, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, e PsycINFO); SCOPUS; Web of Scienc; Scielo e RCAAP (Repositórios Científicos de Acesso Aberto em Portugal). It was selected 7 studies amongst 935 entries that correspond to the psychometric analysis of new scales, which were evaluated regarding its methodological and metrical quality. It was concluded that the measures of spirituality available in Portugal are discrepant with each other and lack an appropriate psychometric adequacy. It is suggested the need to conduct new studies that would resolve the methodological weaknesses signalled in this review as also the necessity to attend to the state of art, namely, the conceptual issues in the development of new scales. published

The present study pretends to understand the way how the awareness of age-related changes, that the individuals had, is related to their subjective well-being and the influence that loneliness and health state make. Data was collected in adults from 40 years old, in local community, through online questionnaires and recruited in multiple institutions like day cares. We used CMRI measures, to assess the awareness of age-related changes, the CAPS-13, to evaluate the subjective well-being, UCLA to assess levels of loneliness and the IAQdV, a measure of general quality of life in health. It was found that the losses related to age, that has been reported, are negatively associated with well-being, and the gains are positively related with well-being. Higher levels of life quality in health are positively related to the subjective wellbeing of participants, as well as loneliness is negatively related to well-being. Lastly, higher levels of loneliness are negatively associated with the health state of individuals. The differences between the young and old age groups were significant.
