Abstract Authorship determination on a research article remains a largely subjective process. Existing guidelines on authorship taxonomy lack objectivity and are more useful in determining who deserves authorship rather than determining the order of authors. To promote best practices in authorship taxonomy, we developed an authorship rubric that provides a fair, objective, and transparent means of crediting authorship. We christened this tool the “CalculAuthor”. The following steps are to be undertaken to create a scoring system based on the requirements of the projects: determining creditable criteria, assigning credit weightages, deciding levels of contribution, determining each author’s contribution, calculating authorship scores and ranking. These must be performed by or in close collaboration with the primary investigator (PI), with conflicts being resolved at the PI’s discretion. All team members should be informed about the authorship determination process early in the project and their agreement regarding its use must be obtained. While the CalculAuthor was developed to be used in medical research, its customizability enables it to be employed in any field of academia. We recommend that the CalculAuthor be piloted within institutions before its mainstream adoption, and any institution-specific factors should be considered to make the process more efficient and suitable.

Abstract Transmission lines are a very important and vulnerable part of the power system. Power supply to the consumers depends on the fault‐free status of transmission lines. If the normal working condition of the power system is disturbed due to faults, the persisting fault of long duration results in financial and economic losses. The fault analysis has an important association with the selection of protective devices and reliability assessment of high‐voltage transmission lines. It is imperative to devise a suitable feature extraction tool for accurate fault detection and classification in transmission lines. Several feature extraction techniques have been used in the past but due to their limitations, that is, for use in stationary signals, limited space in localizing nonstationary signals, and less robustness in case of variations in normal operation conditions. Not suitable for real‐time applications and large calculation time and memory requirements. This research presents a discrete wavelet transform (DWT)‐based novel fault detection technique at different parameters, that is, fault inception and fault resistance with proper selection of mother wavelet. In this study, the feasibility of DWT using MATLAB software has been investigated. It has been concluded from the simulated data that wavelet transform together with an effective classification algorithm can be implemented as an effective tool for real‐time monitoring and accurate fault detection and classification in the transmission lines.

In the current study, second-grade micropolar nanofluid flow past an exponential curved Riga sheet in the presence of Cattaneo–Christov double diffusion is studied. The slip impacts are considered. The model of governing equations in PDE’s (Partial Differential Equations) form is formulated because of the boundary layer approximation. The suitable transformations of similarity variables are defined to implement the approach of Lie symmetry method to change the set of formulated PDE’s into ODE’s. Then bvp4c scheme is adopted to numerically describe the dimensionless expressions of ODE’s. The influences of involving physical factors on the velocity, microrotation, temperature, and concentration distributions are plotted with the help of graphical figures. Numerical findings of involved parametric impacts against physically interested quantities which are skin friction, couple stress, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number are comprehensively described in tabular format. A comparison with the literature work is also conducted to check the validity of modeled problem. The values of velocity are found to be diminishing by an increment of second-grade parameter. The values of shear thickening increased and fluid viscosity enlarged but the increment of second-grade parameter ultimately fluid velocity reduced at Riga stretching curved sheet.

Abstract Rural electrification is a crucial component of meeting sustainable development goals. In Pakistan, load shedding and power outages are frequent. According to the current data, Pakistan is experiencing a shortfall of power between 6000 and 6500 MW. Microgrid technology has the potential to provide a solution to this problem in an efficient and low‐cost manner. This paper proposes the development of a hybrid microgrid system (HMGS) for rural communities. For that purpose, a technological analysis of the HMGS system for rural electrification is performed. Solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind resource‐based renewable energy systems are considered in this work for the electrification of rural areas of Pakistan. A hybrid PV/wind system is designed using MATLAB software. Simulation results show that a 230‐V sinusoidal output voltage has been produced by the proposed model. The advantage of this model is that it minimizes the impact of transients and provides a sinusoidal output waveform.

Abstract This study investigates the challenges and motivations for women entrepreneurs in the service sector of Pakistan. Women’s business ownership is widely recognized as a critical component of a healthy economy because it plays a significant role in the production of new jobs and services and contributes to overall economic development. Due to the many challenges that are present in the business world, the percentage of women in Pakistan who start their businesses is extremely low. Nevertheless, some motivators keep people from creating new enterprises. This research is qualitative; it adheres to the interpretivism paradigm. A case study approach has been utilized to investigate the individual motivators and hurdles that affect business ventures in Pakistan. The findings uncovered many significant themes that centered on two different dimensions, motivations and challenges. This study is helpful for policymakers in formulating policies and strategies to remove barriers, address challenges, and give opportunities for women to start their businesses. Additionally, this study will provide direction to entrepreneurs, especially those working in the service sector industry. A further finding of the studies will be useful for women’s empowerment, poverty reduction, and the attainment of sustainable development goals.

The use of rubber aggregates derived from discarded rubber tyres in concrete is a pioneering approach to replacing natural aggregate (NA) and promoting sustainable building practices. Recycled aggregate in concrete serves the dual purpose of alleviating the accumulation of discarded rubber tyres on the planet and providing a more sustainable alternative to decreasing natural aggregate. Due to fact that the crumb rubber (CR) decreases the strength when used in concrete, incorporating titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a nanomaterial to counteract the decrease in strength of crumb rubber concrete is a potential solution. Response Surface Methodology was developed to generate sixteen RUNs which contains different mix design by providing two input parameters like TiO2 at 1%, 1.5%, and 2% by cement weight and CR at 10%, 20%, and 30% as substitutions for volume of sand. These mixtures underwent testing for 28 days to evaluate their mechanical, deformation, and durability properties. Moreover, the compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength and elastic modulus were recorded by 51.40 MPa, 4.47 MPa, 5.91 MPa, and 40.15 GPa when 1.5% TiO2 and 10% CR were added in rubberised concrete after 28 days respectively. Furthermore, the incorporation of TiO2 led to reduced drying shrinkage and sorptivity in rubberized concrete, especially with increased TiO2 content. The study highlights that TiO2 inclusion refines pore size and densifies the interface between cement matrix and aggregate in hardened rubberized concrete. This transformative effect results in rubberized concrete demonstrating a commendable compressive strength comparable to normal concrete.

With the wide potential of organic field-effect transistors in all the modern electronic circuitries, researchers are grappling with the challenge of poor charge transport and hence lower mobility in organic polymers. Low-charge carrier mobility is mainly due to disorder in the molecular packing of organic semiconductors along with other factors, such as impurities, defects and interactions between molecules. The current research work has been conducted to align the molecular chains of poly[4-(4,4-dihexadecyl-4H-cyclopenta[1,2-‌‌‌b:5,4-‌b′]‌dithiophen-2-yl)-alt-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo-[3,4-c]pyridine] (PCDTPT) using directional coating techniques such as dip coating and brush coating on nano-grooved substrates. Long-range order of polymer chains was clearly observed along the direction of brush coating and nanogrooves in optical and atomic force microscope (AFM) images while transmission spectra confirmed decreased pi–pi stacking for the polymer films deposited by this technique. By comparing the mobility performance of brush-coated devices with other techniques, we found a remarkable mobility enhancement of 90 times that of conventional spin-coated device and 24 times enhancement compared with the dip-coated device for the case when the alignment of polymer chains was parallel to the channel. All the fabrication and characterizations were performed in the ambient environment. This study demonstrates a potential approach to align the polymers on long and short ranges hence providing a route for high-performing devices in ambient conditions.

The construction industry's rapid growth poses challenges tied to raw material depletion and increased greenhouse gas emissions. To address this, alternative materials like agricultural residues are gaining prominence due to their potential to reduce carbon emissions and waste generation. In this context this research optimizes the use of banana leaves ash as a partial cement substitution, focusing on durability, and identifying the ideal cement-to-ash ratio for sustainable concrete. For this purpose, concrete mixes were prepared with BLA replacing cement partially in different proportions i.e. (0 %, 5 %, 10 %, 15 %, & 20 %) and were analyzed for their physical, mechanical and Durability (Acid and Sulphate resistance) properties. Compressive strength, acid resistance and sulphate resistance testing continued for 90 days with the intervals of 7, 28 and 90 days. The results revealed that up to 10 % incorporation of BLA improved compressive strength by 10 %, while higher BLA proportions (up to 20 %) displayed superior performance in durability tests as compared to the conventional mix. The results reveal the potentials of banana leave ash to refine the concrete matrix by formation of addition C–S–H gel which leads towards a better performance specially in terms of durability aspect. Hence, banana leaf ash (BLA) is an efficient concrete ingredient, particularly up to 10 % of the mix. Beyond this threshold, it's still suitable for applications where extreme strength isn't the primary concern, because there may be a slight reduction in compressive strength.

Abstract NAD is an essential co-factor for cellular energy metabolism and multiple other processes. Systemic NAD+ deficiency has been implicated in skeletal deformities during development in both humans and mice. NAD levels are maintained by multiple synthetic pathways but which ones are important in bone forming cells is unknown. Here, we generate mice with deletion of Nicotinamide Phosphoribosyltransferase (Nampt), a critical enzyme in the NAD salvage pathway, in all mesenchymal lineage cells of the limbs. At birth, Nampt ΔPrx1 exhibit dramatic limb shortening due to death of growth plate chondrocytes. Administration of the NAD precursor nicotinamide riboside during pregnancy prevents the majority of in utero defects. Depletion of NAD post-birth also promotes chondrocyte death, preventing further endochondral ossification and joint development. In contrast, osteoblast formation still occurs in knockout mice, in line with distinctly different microenvironments and reliance on redox reactions between chondrocytes and osteoblasts. These findings define a critical role for cell-autonomous NAD homeostasis during endochondral bone formation.

Aroma is a promising quality factor for rice grain that impacts consumer acceptability. The principal volatile compound that adds Basmati rice fragrance is 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP). Milled White rice of 04 promising varieties i.e., Super Basmati, Basmati-515, Basmati 2000and Basmati 370 were evaluated for volatile compounds by gas chromatography (GC) coupled with Solid Phase Micro Extraction unit (SPME) using Flame Ionizing Detector (FID). Six volatile compounds (nonanal, decanal, and alcohols such as benzyl alcohol, indole) were identified in the tested varieties, among them 2-AP is only present in aromatic rice varieties. This study confirmed the occurrence of 2-AP in all studied varieties with highest concentration in Super Basmati followed by Basmati-515, Basmati 2000 and Basmati 370.

PV systems play a vital role in the global renewable energy sector, and they require accurate modeling and reliable performance to maximize the output power. This research presents a thorough analysis and discussions on the effects of different PV models’ parameters and certain specific faults on the performance and behavior of the photovoltaic systems under different temperature and irradiation conditions. It provides a detailed analysis of how several parameters affect the performance of the PV arrays, for instance, the series resistance, shunt resistance, photocurrent, reverse saturation current, and the diode ideality factor. These parameters were extracted mathematically and verified with the help of wide-ranging simulations and practical experiments. Additionally, the investigation of the effect of DC faults, including line-to-line, line-to-ground, partial shading, and complete shading faults on PV arrays, provides important fundamentals for fault detection and classification, thus improving the efficiency and protection of PV systems. It can, therefore, be stated that the outcomes of this research will assist in the enhancement of PV systems in terms of design, operation, and maintainability of photovoltaic plants, as well as contribute positively to the advancement of sustainable solar energy technology.

The performance of quadcopter frames, particularly in terms of weight and crash resistance, is significantly influenced by their structural design and manufacturing process. In this work, a methodology is proposed that integrates advanced principles of topology optimization (TO) and additive manufacturing (AM) techniques to optimize the frame structure for improved performance. First, an analysis is conducted to evaluate existing quadcopter frame configurations, identifying areas for improvement. Experimental evaluations of thrust and moment of motors are performed to assess the performance of the enhanced quadcopter frame, with a focus on advancing the design through computer-aided simulations of static structural analysis and impact tests. The TO technique is then employed to determine the optimal distribution of material within the frame, governed by constraints such as weight reduction and mechanical strength. The results demonstrate that the overall performance of a quadcopter frame is significantly improved by the proposed methodology, showcasing advancements in stability, weight reduction, and crashworthiness. The resulting optimized frame design is subsequently manufactured using AM methods, which offer advantages such as design flexibility and the ability to produce complex geometries. The findings of this study contribute to the field of quadcopter design and optimization by highlighting the synergies between TO and AM techniques. An avenue is offered for the development of lightweight and robust quadcopter frames, as the capabilities and performance of quadcopter systems are advanced. The insights gained from this research open up opportunities for further advancements in the design and manufacturing of UAVs.

Concrete has a great capacity to withstand compressive strength, but it is rather weak at resisting tensile stresses, which ultimately result in the formation of cracks in concrete buildings. The development of cracks has a significant impact on the durability of concrete because they serve as direct pathways for corrosive substances that harm the concrete’s constituents. Consequently, the reinforced concrete may experience degradation, cracking, weakening, or progressive disintegration. To mitigate such problems, it is advisable to include discrete fibres uniformly throughout the concrete mixture. The fibers function by spanning the voids created by fractures, therefore decelerating the mechanism of fracture initiation and advancement. It is not practical to assess the beginning and spread of cracks when there are uncertainties in the components and geometrical factors through probabilistic methods. This research examines the behaviour of variation of steel fibers in Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) via Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling. In this study also the fracture parameters such as fracture energy, and fracture toughness have been computed through FEM analysis. The FEM constitutive model developed was also validated with the experimental result. The compressive strength of the developed constitutive model was 28.50 MPa which is very close to the 28-day compressive strength obtained through the experiment, i.e., 28.79 MPa. Load carrying capacity obtained through FEM was 7.9 kN, 18 kN, and 24 kN for three FEM models developed for three varying percentages of steel fiber 0.25%, 0.5%, and 0.75% respectively. The study developed a FEM model which can be used for calculating the fracture parameters of Steel Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (SFRC).

In this study, we considered the flow of a micropolar fluid over a vertical Riga sheet. The non linear stretching sheet is considered. The effects of variable thermal conductivity and radiation on the Riga sheet are taken into account. Additionally, we also debated the Brownian motion and thermophoretic. To simplify the partial differential equations, we converted them into dimensionless ordinary differential equations using suitable similarity variables and solved dimensionless system numerically using the bvp4c function. The impact of some intended parameters on the dimensionless velocity, microrotation, temperature, and concentration distributions graphically are presented and the numerical outcomes of physical quantities like skin friction, Nusselt number, Sherwood number, and couple stress have been presented in tabular form. The micropolar parameter increased which increased the couple stress and friction at surface. Because, the fluid rotation increased which increased friction at surface and also increased the couple stress. The transfer of mass decayed and transfer of heat heightened by larger values of variable thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity improved which improved the heat transfer phenomena, so transfer of heat at surface becomes larger while also reducing the transfer of mass.

The use of supplementary cementitious materials has been widely accepted due to increasing global carbon emissions resulting from demand and the consequent production of Portland cement. Moreover, researchers are also working on complementing the strength deficiencies of concrete; fiber reinforcement is one of those techniques. This study aims to assess the influence of recycling wheat straw ash (WSA) as cement replacement material and coir/coconut fibers (CF) as reinforcement ingredients together on the mechanical properties, permeability and embodied carbon of concrete. A total of 255 concrete samples were prepared with 1:1.5:3 mix proportions at 0.52 water-cement ratio and these all-concrete specimens were cured for 28 days. It was revealed that the addition of 10 % WSA and 2 % CF in concrete were recorded the compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strengths by 33 MPa, 3.55 MPa and 5.16 MPa which is greater than control mix concrete at 28 days respectively. Moreover, it was also observed that the permeability of concrete incorporating 4 % of coir fiber and 20 % of WSA was reduced by 63.40 % than that of the control mix after 28 days which can prevent the propagation of major and minor cracks. In addition, the embodied carbon of concrete is getting reduced when the replacement level of cement with WSA along with CF increases in concrete. Furthermore, based on the results obtained, the optimum amount of WSA was suggested to be 10 % and that of coir fiber reinforcement was suggested to be 2 % for improved results.

Recently, renewable energy sources integrated with microgrid (MG) networks have provided safe, secure, and reliable power supply to both utility and industrial purposes. Power quality disturbances (PQDs) seriously affect the performance of MG networks and reduce the lifecycle of numerous sensitive devices in MG networks. Hence, this paper presents a new approach to detect and classify the PQDs using discrete wavelet transform, multiresolution analysis, and optimized-kernel support vector machine. The obtained unique features from DWT-MRA are fed to train the well-known intelligent classifiers. In the optimized-kernel SVM model, computing power is enhanced for classifying multiple PQ events based on the local density and leave-one-out (LOO) algorithm. To get higher separation in feature space, the kernel width of each sample is estimated based on the local density. By using the LOO method, an improved grid search strategy is implemented to get the penalty parameter to achieve satisfactory results. Moreover, a typical MG network is simulated in MATLAB software considering the validation of the proposed technique to address the power quality issues in MG networks, and the results of the proposed method are compared with other conventional ML classifiers. The simulation results confirm that the proposed method is more effective and accurate than other intelligent classifiers.

In this analysis, we considered the steady flow of Jeffrey's fluid over an exponential stretching Riga curved surface. The impacts of Soret and Dufour are considered in the present analysis. Using the above assumptions, we developed the mathematical model in differential form (PDEs) using boundary layer approximations. The differential model (PDEs) is converted into a dimensionless system (ODEs) by implementing suitable transformations. The dimensionless system of differential equations is solved through the numerical technique bvp4c in Matlab software packages. The effects of governing physical parameters involving in the mathematical model have been presented in tabular and graphical form. Velocity function reported lesser values due to boosting values of modified Hartmann number. The velocity curves boosted due to improving values of curvature. The surface turn out to be flat, so momentum thickness gradually reduced.

Wearable thermoregulatory technologies have attracted widespread attention because of their potential for impacting individual physiological comfort and for reducing building energy consumption. Within this context, the study of materials and systems that can merge the advantageous characteristics of both active and passive operating modes has proven particularly attractive. Accordingly, our laboratory has drawn inspiration from the appearance-changing skin of Loliginidae (inshore squids) for the introduction of a unique class of dynamic thermoregulatory composite materials with outstanding figures of merit. Herein, we demonstrate a straightforward approach for experimentally controlling and computationally predicting the adaptive infrared properties of such bioinspired composites, thereby enabling the development and validation of robust structure–function relationships for the composites. Our findings may help unlock the potential of not only the described materials but also comparable systems for applications as varied as thermoregulatory wearables, food packaging, infrared camouflage, soft robotics, and biomedical sensing.

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of lean practices and culture on the Industry 4.0 implementation. This aim is achieved in the context of Pakistan’s manufacturing industry keeping in view the mediating role of green practices. This is a quantitative study, positivism was used. The data was collected from 256 management-level professionals working in the manufacturing industry of Pakistan. Smart PLS was used for data analysis. Besides running structural and measurement models, some other advanced techniques namely Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IMPA) and PLS Predict were also utilized. The results revealed that lean practices and culture have a significant and positive effect on Industry 4.0 implementation in Pakistan’s manufacturing industry. Furthermore, green practices significantly moderate their effects. However, job experience has an insignificant role in this relationship. By implementing Industry 4.0 in the manufacturing sector, costs can be reduced and international competition can be met. Moreover, the current study revalidates the resource-based theory. The findings can be utilized by the manufacturing industry to implement Industry 4.0, successfully. The significance of lean practices and lean culture is well-established. This research would be helpful in strategic planning and decision-making for managers working in the manufacturing industry of Pakistan.

This paper investigates the effect of political institutions on bank stability of dual banking countries. Applying the two-step GMM approach to a panel sample of Islamic and conventional banks from 2005 to 2020, we arrive at the following results. First, we observe that the quality of political institutions leads to more stable banking system, which is in line with the view that quality political institutions improve the transparency, thereby reducing adverse selection and leading to overall improvement in the banking stability. Second, when we look at components of political institutions, we document the significance of the voice and accountability dimension in enhancing bank stability. Finally, as a side result, we find evidence that competition leads to stability for Islamic banks. These findings are robust to several robustness tests. The implications of our findings are provided in the paper.

The slogan is of great importance, as it is a message with significance related to a specific goal that refers to the viewer, and its structure may be a form, letter, word, or brief free linear elements, or a mixture between them, as the slogan has symbolic connotations that excite the recipient and affect his sensory perception this research sought to present sculptural proposals for the slogans of the faculties of the university of Basrah, and this study included four chapters. To him: the importance of this study is evident from the importance of designing the sculptural logo and its pivotal role in achieving the visual identity of the faculties of the university of Basrah. As for the limits of the research: the spatial limits: (Iraq - Basrah - Basrah university) the temporal limits (2022). Among the results reached by the researcher: 1. The researcher focused on the topic of simplicity and shorthand in the models of sculptural slogans proposed for the faculties of the university of Basrah, which work to attract the concept of diversity, unity, and symmetry because of the absolute methods they contain that depict the data of the geometric perception, and its dominant aesthetic action in the form of sculptural slogans.

Cost overruns are a global challenge to successfully completing construction projects. Cost overrun has a substantial impact resulting in most construction projects failing to be completed. Several factors have contributed significantly to the industry's decline. The factors were discovered in the literature, assessed, and applied to the construction industry in Pakistan. This study scrutinized and identified the relationships between the factors causing cost overruns in the Pakistani construction industry using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) approach. The structural model was created and tested with Smart-PLS software using data from a questionnaire survey of 131 construction practitioners. Six constructs were used to categorise the factors. The model identifies 21 critical factors in Pakistani construction projects, with resource management ranking first. Contract management issues can also contribute significantly to project cost overruns. Model assessment results indicate that the developed model has a substantial power of explaining the factors of cost performance while R2 value showed that 45.7% variance is explained by the model. The model developed model will serve as a jumping-off point for academics, researchers, and practitioners in developing a cost-control system. It is suggested that establishing an efficient and effective contract management protocol among stakeholders throughout the design and supervision stages is extremely beneficial for improving project cost performance and significantly reducing time overruns.
