Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious multisystemic disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Both common mental disorders (CMD) and TB are global public health problems that have a considerable impact on human health. Moreover, TB and CMDs share common risk factors including poverty, drug addiction, and homelessness and the coexistence of CMD and TB leads to difficult management of TB. Materials and Methods: This was a hospital-based longitudinal study, carried out between June 2021 and December 2022. In this study, 147 pulmonary TB patients were included as per inclusion and exclusion criteria, and psychiatric illness was evaluated by the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale. Results: The mean age of study participants was 37.59 ± 15.37 years, there were 99 (67.3%) were male and 48 (32.7%) were female. Psychiatric illness was found in 77 (52.38%) pulmonary TB patients. Among psychiatric illness, anxiety was found in 33 (22.4%) participants and 21 (14.3%) participants had depression. Mixed anxiety and depression were found in 20 (13.6%) patients and 03 (2%) participants had severe psychosis. The association of psychiatric illness with age group and gender was not significant (P = 0.734, 0.203, respectively). There were 105 (71.40%) patients who had <12 standard education and 42 (28.60%) had >12 standard education and their association with psychiatric illness was statistically significant (P = 0.044). Adverse drug reactions were found among 80 (54.42%) patients and the association between adverse drug reactions and psychiatric illness was significant (P = 0.031). Conclusion: Psychiatric illness is one of the important domains to be evaluated in timely manner in TB patients and early intervention is needed for better management of the TB because the severity, social factors, and chronicity of the disease make them susceptible to develop psychiatric illness. Disparities in pH, conductivity, organic carbon (OC), nutrients, and moisture between the Asan Wetland and its periphery in the Western Himalaya, India, highlight the need to investigate influencing factors. This study thus addresses two gaps: (1) identifying key drivers for alkaline pH and elevated wetland concentrations and (2) understanding how different values outside the wetland relate to ecological processes. Asan Wetland soil samples, collected on April 15, 2023, underwent analysis for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic carbon (OC), organic matter (OM), available nitrogen (N), available phosphorus (P), potassium (K), sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), moisture content (M), total organic carbon (TOC), and total organic matter (TOM) using standard laboratory procedures, APHA, CPCB, and standard manual techniques. Within the wetland, results indicated that the soil is more alkaline (pH 8.50 ± 0.13) than the periphery in the concentrations of EC, N, K, and M were found to be higher compared to the corresponding concentrations outside the wetland, with mean values of 1.10 ± 0.15 ds/m, 364 ± 117.13 kg/ha, 86.42 ± 21.64 kg/ha, and 20.87 ± 1.50%, respectively. Conversely, outside the wetland, higher values of OC, OM, P, Na, Ca, TOC, and TOM were recorded (0.39 ± 0.23%, 0.66 ± 0.39%, 0.82 ± 0.35 ppm, 80.45 ± 8.46 ppm, 268.12 ± 61.12 ppm, 56.80 ± 0.33%, and 97.70 ± 0.57%, respectively). pH, EC, K, Ca, Na, and moisture content variations indicate location‐based differences. pH, TOM, TOC, and soil moisture were positively correlated within wetlands but negatively correlated with Na and N. In addition, moisture was positively correlated with pH and N but negatively correlated with Ca, K, Na, and P. The study concluded that the Asan Wetland exhibits distinct soil characteristics compared to its periphery, exhibiting location‐based differences while emphasizing these factors' interconnectedness. Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive respiratory disorder often treated with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). While ICS are effective in managing COPD, prolonged use may have psychological side effects, including anxiety and depression. Objective: This study explores the impact of the duration of inhaled steroid use on psychological symptoms, specifically anxiety and depression, in COPD patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 160 COPD patients from outpatient respiratory clinics. Anxiety and depression were assessed using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scales, respectively. The duration of ICS use was categorized into three groups: <5 years, 6-10 years, and 11-15 years. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to analyze the relationship between ICS duration and psychological symptoms. Results: The prevalence of anxiety increased with longer ICS use, though not statistically significant (Spearman's rho = 0.152, P = 0.056). Depression showed a significant positive correlation with ICS duration (Spearman's rho = 0.243, P < 0.01). Conclusion: Prolonged use of inhaled corticosteroids in COPD patients is associated with increased prevalence of depression. Regular monitoring and timely intervention for psychological symptoms are recommended for COPD patients undergoing long-term ICS therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Intensive agricultural practices lead to a deterioration in soil quality, causing a decline in farm productivity and quality, and disturbing the ecosystem balance in command areas. To achieve sustainable production and implement effective soil management strategies, understanding the state and spatial variability of soil quality is essential. The study aims to enhance the understanding of soil quality variability and provide actionable insights for sustainable soil management. In this regard, principal component analysis (PCA) and digital soil mapping were used to assess and map the spatial variability of the soil quality index (SQI) in the Cauvery command area, Mandya district, Karnataka, India. A total of 145 georeferenced soil samples were drawn at 0–15 cm depth and analyzed for physico-chemical properties. PCA was used to reduce the dataset into a minimum dataset as eight important soil indicators and to determine relative weightage factors, which were used for assessing SQI with linear and non-linear scoring methods. For spatial assessment of SQI, the random forest algorithm with environmental covariates was used to map eight soil indicators selected in the minimum dataset. The soil property maps were subjected to linear and non-linear scoring, followed by multiplying with corresponding weightage factors and summation to produce SQI maps. Results reveal that values of SQI calculated using linear scoring, range from 0.10 to 0.64, with a mean of 0.39, while non-linear scoring exhibits a wider range of 0.12 to 0.78 and a mean of 0.48. With a slight higher sensitivity index of 6.5, non-linear scoring proved to be the better scoring method compared to linear scoring. Spatial assessment shows that the R2 and LCC between the calculated and predicted SQI were higher for non-linear scoring (0.66 and 0.66) compared to linear scoring (0.60 and 0.65). The SQI maps reveal high spatial variability with more than 40 percent of soils classified as moderate-to-low index. The soils with low SQI were distributed in eastern parts, whereas western parts exhibited high-to-very-high soil quality. To achieve production goals and improve soil quality in the eastern region, sustainable soil and crop management strategies must be developed, and their effects on soil quality should be assessed.
