Industrial Internet of Everything (IIoE), as the deep integration of industry 6.0, the Internet of Things (IoT) and 6G mobile communication technology, pave the way for intelligent industry, enabling industrial optimization and automation. To ensure the high quality of services (QoS) in IIoE, tremendous real-time information generated by the pervasive smart things needs to be aggregated and processed quickly and reliably. However, a large-scale disaster could damage the entire communication network and cut off data aggregation such that Qos is compromised. In this paper, an Intelligent NIB based Data Aggregation Strategy, named (IDAS), is proposed for after disaster scenarios in IIoE. Specifically, IDAS first applies both iterative cubature kalman filter and radial basis function neural network to predict the data collection rates of survived infrastructures. Then, an energy efficient task distribution mechanism is design. Next, a deep reinforcement learning method is developed for the car-carrying NIB route design to perform corresponding task. Eventually, all data are aggregated toward the rescue headquarter by NIB deployment based on Fermat tree constructions. The theoretical analysis and simulations indicate that IDAS is not only energy efficient for after disaster scenarios but requires the least NIB consumption while compared with contemporary strategies.

Abstract Background This study was performed to analyze the clinical manifestations, imaging features, and prognosis of Takayasu’s arteritis (TA) with pulmonary arteritis (PA). Methods In total, 51 of 815 patients with TA were diagnosed with PA at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 1986 to 2015. The patients’ medical records and radiographic data were retrospectively reviewed. Results The patients comprised 39 women and 12 men with a median age of 33 years (range, 14–67 years). The most common symptoms were dyspnea (70.6%), cough (66.7%), hemoptysis (47.1%), and chest pain (45.1%). Computed tomography (CT) pulmonary angiography, pulmonary arteriography, and pulmonary perfusion imaging showed pulmonary artery stenosis or occlusion in 44 patients. A total of 82.4% of patients had lung parenchyma lesions on CT scans, indirectly indicating pulmonary artery involvement. Additionally, 58.8% of patients had pulmonary hypertension (PH) by echocardiography. The heavy metal pollution in arable soil poses a significant threat to human health. Thus, it is of great significance to investigate the contamination of heavy metal elements in the soil. As the soil polluted by heavy metal is sensitive to spectral reflectance, thus the hyperspectral remote sensing technology could be a valuable tool for retrieving heavy metal components in the soil. This study, taking chromium (Cr) concentration as an example, proposes an optimal model for estimating heavy metal components in the soil by comprehensively taking account of the spectral pretreatment, dimensionality reduction with optimal parameters, and hyperspectral model. To this end, both the linear model, i.e., partial least squares regression (PLSR), and the nonlinear model, i.e., the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), are applied in this study. It is found in the study area, the Savitzky-Golay (SG) method can be regarded as an excellent spectral pretreatment for the hyperspectral data regardless of the applied model. By contrast, the dimensionality reduction in terms of the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is closely related to hyperspectral model: the optimal principal components (PCs) in the estimation of Cr concentration are the first 9 PCs for the GBDT (nonlinear model), while that for the PLSR (linear model) become the first 8 PCs. Moreover, the examination of hyperspectral model shows the GBDT model has slightly better performance than the PLSR model for the Cr concentration estimation under most conditions. Finally, when the spectral pretreatment, dimensionality reduction, and hyperspectral model are fully considered, the best retrieval model for the Cr concentration in the study area is the SG-PCA-GBDT model. Numeric measures of model accuracy show the proposed model has a determination coefficient of 0.80 and a residual prediction deviation of 2.04, which provides a potentially new method for estimating Cr concentration in the polluted soil.

BackgroundCirculating tumor DNA (ctDNA) levels and blood tumor mutation burden (bTMB) have a significant impact on the prognosis of tumor patients. However, their prognostic role in immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in cancer patients is still unclear.MethodsWe used the Review Manager software (version 5.3) to perform a meta-analysis based on the published literature to explore the prognostic value of ctDNA and bTMB in patients receiving immunotherapy. We extracted the hazard ratios (HRs) of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) for each included study and their respective 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and p-values for analysis.ResultsThirteen studies were included in the meta-analysis. Higher ctDNA levels were significantly associated with shorter OS (HR = 3.35, 95%CI = 2.49–4.51, p < 0.00001) and PFS (HR = 3.28, 95%CI = 2.47–4.35, p < 0.00001). The results of ctDNA subgroup analysis showed that high posttreatment ctDNA levels significantly correlated with shorter OS in cancer patients receiving ICIs (HR = 5.09, 95%CI = 1.43–18.07, p = 0.01). Moreover, patients with ctDNA clearance had better OS (HR = 4.94, 95%CI = 2.96–8.26, p < 0.00001). Patients with high posttreatment ctDNA levels had shorter PFS (HR = 3.00, 95%CI = 2.02–4.46, p < 0.00001) and those with ctDNA clearance had longer PFS (HR = 4.61, 95%CI = 2.78–7.65, p < 0.00001). However, there was no statistically significant difference in the OS benefits between a high and a low bTMB after ICI therapy (HR = 0.68, 95%CI = 0.33–1.37, p = 0.28).ConclusionsThe host immune system and tumor burden together determine whether cancer patients can benefit from ICI therapy. Our systematic review and meta-analysis revealed for the first time that the levels of pretreatment and posttreatment ctDNA and the clearance of ctDNA can independently be used as prognostic factors for antitumor immunotherapy, while bTMB cannot. In conclusion, ctDNA levels have great potential as an assistant tool for radiological assessments to make clinical therapeutic decisions. The prognostic utility of bTMB still requires further exploration.

African swine fever (ASF) is an acute lethal hemorrhagic viral disease in domestic pigs and wild boars; is widely epidemic in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America; and poses a huge threat to the pig industry worldwide. ASF is caused by the infection of the ASF virus (ASFV), a cytoplasmic double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Asfarviridae family. Here, we review how the virus regulates the host immune response and its mechanisms at different levels, including interferon modulation, inflammation, apoptosis, antigen presentation, and cellular immunity.

Various nano-delivery systems have been designed to deliver synthetic/botanical pesticides for improved bioactivity. However, the enhanced toxicity of nanocarrier-loaded pesticides may injure the natural enemies, and their selective toxicity should be evaluated before the large-scale application. In this context, a star polymer (SPc)-based cyantraniliprole (CNAP) nano-delivery system was constructed, and its selective toxicity was evaluated using pest Frankliniella occidentalis (WFT) and predator Orius sauteri. The amide NH of CNAP could assemble with carbonyl groups or tertiary amines of SPc through hydrogen bonds to form CNAP/SPc complex spontaneously. The above self-assembly decreased the particle size of CNAP from 808 to 299 nm. With the help of SPc, the lethal concentration 50 (LC50) values of CNAP decreased from 99 to 54 mg/L and 230 to 173 mg/L toward WFTs and O. sauteri due to the enhancement of broad-spectrum bioactivity. Interestingly, the toxicity selective ratio (TSR) of CNAP increased from 2.33 to 3.23 with the help of SPc, revealing the higher selectivity of SPc-loaded CNAP. To our knowledge, it was the first successful exploration of the selective toxicity of nanocarrier-loaded pesticides, and the higher selective toxicity of SPc-loaded CNAP was beneficial for alleviating the negative impacts on predators.

ObjectiveThe objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the prognostic value of memory CD8(+) T cells in cancer patients with immunotherapy.MethodsEMBASE, MEDLINE (PubMed), and Web of Science databases were searched to identify suitabile articles published before March 2021. Risk of bias on the study level was assessed using the Cochrane Bias Risk Assessment Tool. The hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of pooled progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated using RevMan 5.4 to evaluate the prognostic impact of memory CD8(+) T cells.ResultsIn total, nine studies were included in the final analysis. High levels of memory CD8(+) T cells were significantly closely correlated with better progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of cancer patients with immunotherapy (PFS, HR 0.64, 95% CI 0.53–0.78; OS, HR 0.37, 95% CI 0.21–0.65). Memory CD8(+) T cells still have significant prognostic value in cancer patients given immunotherapy alone after excluding of other interfering factors such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy (PFS, HR 0.65, 95% CI 0.48–0.89; OS, HR 0.23, 95% CI 0.13–0.42). However, high memory CD8(+) T cells levels did not correspond to a longer PFS or OS in cancer patients with non-immunotherapy (PFS, HR 1.05, 95% CI 0.63–1.73; OS, HR 1.29, 95% CI 0.48–3.48). Thus, memory CD8(+) T cells might be a promising predictor in cancer patients with immunotherapy.ConclusionsThe host’s overall immune status, and not only the tumor itself, should be considered to predict the efficacy of immunotherapy in cancer patients. This study is the first to show the significant prognostic value of memory CD8(+) T cells in immunotherapy of cancer patients through systematic review and meta-analysis. Thus, the detection of memory CD8(+) T cells has a considerable value in clinical practice in cancer patients with immunotherapy. Memory CD8(+) T cells may be promising immunotherapy targets.

Abstract The establishment of postmortem interval is one of the most important aspects of forensic expertise. Microbes may provide a novel way to estimate the postmortem intervals in order to avoid many of these limitations. The oral cavity harbors one of the most diverse microbiomes that play a key role in the decomposition of corpses. In this study, the oral bacterial community showed obvious changes in relative abundance during the process of mice decomposition. Meanwhile, at different taxonomic levels, specific bacteria were found to be significantly correlated with the postmortem interval. Linear regression models between relative abundance and the postmortem interval were constructed. Among these species, Gamma-proteobacteria and Proteus were the best ones that can be used to infer the postmortem interval, especially late postmortem interval. Therefore, we suggest that succession of oral microbial community can be developed as a forensic tool for estimating the postmortem interval.

Abstract Background Studies had investigated the associations between proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 SNP rs562556 and serum lipids levels and response to statin treatment, however, the results remained inconclusive. We conducted this meta-analysis to elucidate the relationship of rs562556 and serum lipids levels. Methods All eligible studies met the inclusion criteria were retrieved from multiple databases. Relative data were extracted from each study. Review Manager (version 5.3.5) and STATA 12.0 software was used to perform this meta-analysis. Pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% CI was employed to evaluate the association of rs562556 with serum lipids levels. Results A total of 7 eligible articles involving 4742 subjects were included in the final meta-analysis. The results revealed that the G carriers had lower levels of total cholesterol (SMD: 0.14, 95% Cl: 0.06–0.23, P = 0.001) and LDL-C(SMD: 0.13, 95% Cl: -0.55-0.22,P = 0.002) than the non-carriers. The statistical results also illustrated that the G carriers had lower relative risk (SMD: 1.38, 95% Cl: 1.02–1.85, P = 0.003) than the non-carriers. Conclusions The results of the current meta-analysis for the first time indicated the relevance of rs562556 and lower serum cholesterol levels.

Background The study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using malignant pleural effusion (MPE) as a substitute specimen for genetic testing and to determine the significance of genetic profiling of MPE tumor cells to monitor non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression and therapeutic response. Methods We selected 168 NSCLC patients with MPE. We extracted MPE and enriched tumor cells using a custom‐designed device. EGFR mutations and ALK/ROS1 fusions were then detected by quantitative real‐time PCR, and the results were used to guide targeted therapy. We investigated drug responses through imaging. Results MPE tumor cells were detected in all patients. EGFR mutations and ALK/ROS1 rearrangements were detected in biopsy samples, treated MPE, and untreated MPE. We found that treated MPE had higher sensitivity and specificity than biopsy or untreated MPE. Among the 26 EGFR inhibitor patients, 13 showed a partial response, 7 had progressive disease, and 6 showed stable disease. Among the 16 patients that received ALK/ROS1 inhibitors, 8 had a partial response, 4 had progressive disease, and 4 showed stable disease. Conclusion Our study provides a new, less invasive, and highly repeatable method of analyzing MPE tumor cells in NSCLC that facilitates precision medicine and genetic testing.

To ensure an efficient coverage and allow transparent mobility, it is common to find a number of access points (APs) deployed in the neighborhood of each other in current WLANs. A mobile terminal (MT) often has multiple potential APs that it can connect to, and the selection of an appropriate AP becomes an important factor affecting both the network performance and user experience. This paper proposes a new AP selection scheme, which is based on the analysis of achievable normalized throughputs (ANTs) that the MT could obtain in the network. Specifically, we first compute the normalized throughput that characterizes the channel competition among multiple basic service sets (BSSs) as well as MTs within the same BSS. By evaluating ANTs in situations where the MT associates with different APs, the most appropriate AP for the MT can then be selected. Then, we present the implementation of the proposed AP selection scheme under the SDN-WiFi framework, in which the AP selection process can be performed in a software manner. The experimental results show that our computations on ANTs are of high accuracy and the proposed AP selection scheme can achieve a better performance than the existing schemes in terms of both the quality of service of MTs and the fairness among MTs.

In high-density scenarios, wireless local area networks (WLANs) encounter serious interference. Interference alignment (IA) is an effective manner to control interference and improve system capacity in the interference channel. However, interference channels interact with each other in existing network planning manners and the network throughput cannot be improved significantly through the IA. In order to control interference and improve the network throughput more efficiently, we propose a network planning scheme based on the IA in high-density WLANs. The whole network is divided into a plurality of subregions, and neighbor subregions use different channels. Each subregion is considered as an interference channel, and the IA is utilized to control interference in a single subregion. Meanwhile, inter-subregion interference is controlled by channel allocation. The appropriate size of subregions and the optimal channel allocation will be selected according to the principle of maximizing the degree of freedom (DoF) of the whole network. The DoF describes the number of messages transmitted at the same time, therefore, this manner will make high-density WLANs more competitive by improving the average DoF. In the simulations, the proposed network planning manner is compared to the traditional manner in different scales of the WLANs, and the results show that the proposed manner can improve the average DoF in high-density WLANs.

There is a great demand for improving the effective utilization of pesticides and reducing their application for sustainable agriculture, and polymeric nanoparticles have provided strong technical support for the efficient delivery of pesticides. To this context, we tried to construct a relatively safe imidaclothiz nano-delivery system for enhanced plant uptake, reduced pesticide residue and improved bioactivity toward green peach aphids. The imidaclothiz could be assembled with the hydrophobic core of SPc through hydrophobic association, which led to the self-assembly of nanoscale imidaclothiz/SPc complex consisting of nearly spherical particles. The SPc decreased the contact angle of imidaclothiz drops and remarkably increased the plant uptake. Furthermore, the bioactivity and control efficacy of imidaclothiz were significantly improved with the help of SPc in both laboratory and field. Excitingly, the residue of imidaclothiz decreased with the help of SPc 7 d after the treatment due to the faster degradation of nanoscale imidaclothiz/SPc complex, which exhibited no negative effects on agronomic traits of tobacco plants. The current study successfully constructed a nano-delivery system for imidaclothiz, which can not only increase the effective utilization of pesticides, but also decrease the pesticide residue.

Surface roughening is an important material surface treatment technique, and it is particularly useful for use in secondary electron yield (SEY) suppression on metal surfaces. Porous structures produced via roughening on coatings have been confirmed to reduce SEY, but the regulation strategy and the influence of process parameters both remain unclear in the practical fabrication of effective porous structures. In this paper, the effect of the surface morphology of porous coatings on the SEY of aluminum alloy substrates was studied. Surface characterization and SEY measurements were carried out for samples with a specific process technique on their surfaces. An exponential fitting model of the correlation between surface roughness and the peak values of SEY curves, δm, was summarized. Furthermore, an implementation strategy to enable low surface SEY was achieved from the analysis of the effect of process parameters on surface morphology formation. This work will aid our understanding of the effect of the irregular surface morphology of porous coatings on SEY, thereby revealing low-cost access to the realization of an easy-to-scale process that enables low SEY.

A total of 28,095 surface soil samples were collected in areas with high natural background levels; the potential ecological risk is generally low, and the high-risk area is small and mainly affected by lead–zinc mines. The contribution to the potential ecological risk factor (RI) is as follows: Hg > Cd > As > Pb > Cu > Ni > Cr > Zn, with noncarcinogenic chronic risks of Cr > As > Cd > Pb > Ni > Cu > Hg > Zn; furthermore, dermal contact is the main pathway of exposure causing health risks. The total carcinogenic risks caused by heavy metals were as follows: Cr > Cd > As > Pb; and the risks posed by Cr, Cd, and As were higher than the threshold value (1.0 × 10−4); people face a higher threat to heavy metals in soils in Zhenxiong, Ludian, Huize, Weixin, and Zhaoyang. The evaluation result of the EPA PMF model shows that the soil heavy metals are mainly composed of five sources, of which basalt, Permian, and Triassic carbonate rock parent material constitute the natural background source, while the mining activities of lead–zinc mines and the emissions of coal burning by residents constitute the anthropogenic source. The contribution was ranked in order of lead–zinc mining (26.7%) > Triassic carbonate (23.7%) > basalt (20.9%) > coal burning and automobile emissions (16.1%) > Permian carbonate (12.6%).

The unscientific application of synthesized/botanical pesticides has not only brought the resistance of plant pathogens and pests, but also led to serious environmental pollution. In recent years, various nano-delivery systems have been used for the development of environmental-friendly pesticides with improved efficacy. Herein, the current study constructed an efficient avermectin B1a (AVM) nano-delivery system based on a star polyamine (SPc) and focused on the characterization and bioactivity of SPc-loaded AVM at various mass ratios. The hydroxyl groups of AVM could assemble with carbonyl groups of SPc through hydrogen bond and van der Waals forces, and the self-assembly of AVM and SPc formed nearly spherical particles of AVM/SPc complex with nanoscale size. The contact angle of SPc-loaded AVM decreased with the increasing mass ratio of SPc, revealing the easier distribution and spreading of the AVM/SPc complex. Furthermore, the stomach and contact toxicity of AVM/SPc complex also increased along with the increasing SPc mass ratio, which could be attributed to the enhanced systemic transportation in plants, enlarged contact area to insect pests and stronger permeability across the insect cuticle. The current study provides an efficient nano-delivery system for increasing stomach and contact toxicity of pesticides with wide applications in the agricultural field.

The spotted scat (Scatophagus argus, Linnaeus, 1766) is a subtropical fish that is widely distributed in the coastal waters of Indo-Pacific. Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of S. argus. The mitogenome is 16,783 base pairs (56.0% A + T content) in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and a 1007 bp D-loop region. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the relationship between S. argus and Selenotoca multifasciata was close.

Objective: This study aims to investigate perinatal depression in women who gave birth during the COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan, and to evaluate the effect of the pandemic on perinatal depression prevalence.Methods: A cross-sectional investigation was conducted into women hospitalized for delivery in Hubei Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital from December 31, 2019 to March 22, 2020, a period which encompasses the entire time frame of the COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was adopted to evaluate perinatal depression status. A Chi-square test and logistic regression model were utilized for data analysis.Results: A total of 2,883 participants were included, 33.71% of whom were found to suffer from depressive symptoms. In detail, 27.02%, 5.24%, and 1.46% were designated as having mild, moderate, and severe depressive symptoms, respectively. The perinatal depression prevalence increased as the COVID-19 pandemic worsened. Compared to the period from December 31, 2019 to January 12, 2020, perinatal depression risk significantly decreased within the 3 weeks of March 2–22, 2020 (1st week: OR = 0.39, 95% CI: 0.20, 0.78; 2nd week: OR = 0.35, 95% CI: 0.17, 0.73; and 3rd week: OR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.25, 0.94); and the postnatal depression risk significantly rose within the four weeks of January 27-February 23, 2020 (1st week: OR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.18, 2.68; 2nd week: OR = 2.03, 95% CI: 1.35, 3.04; 3rd week: OR = 1.48, 95% CI: 1.02, 2.14; and 4th week: OR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.20, 2.48).Conclusion: The dynamic change of perinatal depression was associated with the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic among new mothers who were exposed to the pandemic. An elevated risk of postnatal depression was also observed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Change detection based on remote sensing images plays an important role in the field of remote sensing analysis, and it has been widely used in many areas, such as resources monitoring, urban planning, disaster assessment, etc. In recent years, it has aroused widespread interest due to the explosive development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and change detection algorithms based on deep learning frameworks have made it possible to detect more delicate changes (such as the alteration of small buildings) with the help of huge amounts of remote sensing data, especially high-resolution (HR) data. Although there are many methods, we still lack a deep review of the recent progress concerning the latest deep learning methods in change detection. To this end, the main purpose of this paper is to provide a review of the available deep learning-based change detection algorithms using HR remote sensing images. The paper first describes the change detection framework and classifies the methods from the perspective of the deep network architectures adopted. Then, we review the latest progress in the application of deep learning in various granularity structures for change detection. Further, the paper provides a summary of HR datasets derived from different sensors, along with information related to change detection, for the potential use of researchers. Simultaneously, representative evaluation metrics for this task are investigated. Finally, a conclusion of the challenges for change detection using HR remote sensing images, which must be dealt with in order to improve the model’s performance, is presented. In addition, we put forward promising directions for future research in this area.

The primary goals of this study were to reveal the environmental status of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and their ecological risks, as well as their associated health risks in the Baoshan area, southwest China, which has been surveyed with the scale of 1:250,000 geochemical mapping. Based on a comparison of the PTE concentrations with the soil environmental quality of China and the enrichment factor (EF), geo-accumulation index (Igeo), contamination factor (Cf), and potential ecological risk indexes (Eri and PERI), as well as the potential non-carcinogenic hazard indices (HI and CHI) and carcinogenic risks indices (TCR and CTCR), the following conclusions were drawn: The PTE concentrations in the surface soil samples that were collected from the investigated area (1.65% sites) exceeded the risk intervention values (RIV) for soil contamination of agricultural land of China. Cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) posed higher ecological risks than other PTEs (arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn)), which was highlighted by their toxic response factor. Arsenic was the main PTE with a non-carcinogenic risk (19.57% sites for children and 0.25% sites for adults) and the only PTE that carries a carcinogenic risk (2.67% sites for Children and 0.76% sites for adults) to humans in the research area. Children are more vulnerable to health risks when compared to adults because of their behavioral and physiological traits. Geological genesis was responsible for the high concentrations, ecological risk, and health risk distribution patterns of the examined PTEs. Even though the present research highlights several important aspects related to PTE pollution in the research area, further investigations are needed, especially in mining areas.

The yellowfin seabream, Acanthopagrus latus Houttuyn 1782, is a commercially and ecologically important species and a good model for studies of sexual differentiation. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of A. latus has been determined, which is 16,635 base pairs (54.3% A + T content) in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and a 948 bp D-loop region. The phylogenetic analyses showed that A. latus has a close relationship with Acanthopagrus schlegelii Bleeker 1854.

The mudskipper, Boleophthalmus pectinirostris (B. pectinirostris), is an amphibious fish that lives in the intertidal mudflats. It is a cultured economic fish with nutritional and pharmacological value. Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of B. pectinirostris, which is 17,111 base pairs (55.3% A + T content) in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs, and a 1453 bp D-loop region. The complete mitochondrial genome of B. pectinirostris will provide useful genetic information for future phylogenetic and taxonomic classification of B. pectinirostris.

Nitrite is a major environmental toxin in aquaculture systems that disrupts multiple physiological functions in aquatic animals. Although nitrite tolerance in shrimp is closely related to successful industrial production, few genetic studies of this trait are available. In this study, we constructed a high-density genetic map of Litopenaeus vannamei with 17,242 single nucleotide polymorphism markers spanning 6,828.06 centimorgans (cM), with an average distance of 0.4 cM between adjacent markers on 44 linkage groups (LGs). Using this genetic map, we identified two markers associated with nitrite tolerance. We then sequenced the transcriptomes of the most nitrite-tolerant and nitrite-sensitive individuals from each of four genetically distinct L. vannamei families (LV-I–4). We found 2,002, 1,983, 1,954, and 1,867 differentially expressed genes in families LV-1, LV-2, LV-3, and LV-4, respectively. By integrating QTL and transcriptomics analyses, we identified a candidate gene associated with nitrite tolerance. This gene was annotated as solute carrier family 26 member 6 (SLC26A6). RNA interference (RNAi) analysis demonstrated that SLC26A6 was critical for nitrite tolerance in L. vannamei. The present study increases our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying nitrite tolerance in shrimp and provides a basis for molecular-marker-assisted shrimp breeding.

Impetigo herpetiformis is a rare variant of generalized pustular psoriasis that occurs during pregnancy or is triggered by pregnancy, often in association with hypocalcemia. This condition is associated with increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. We report a 29-year-old pregnant woman who presented to hospital at the gestational age of 20 weeks with widespread erythema covered with pustules that coalesced to form lakes of pus. She did not respond to corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, or phototherapy. Finally, intra-amniotic injection of ethacridine lactate was administered to terminate the pregnancy, and the patient showed complete recovery in 3 months. Insight from this case report may facilitate optimal management of this relatively rare entity.

Background: Brain radiotherapy is the standard treatment option for multiple brain metastases (BMs) from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), especially in the absence of a driver mutation. However, the prognosis for such patients remains poor. Apatinib is a potent antiangiogenic compound directed at the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2); however, to date, there are no investigations of apatinib concurrent with brain radiotherapy for NSCLC patients with BMs. We report a case of EGFR wild-type and ALK-negative lung adenocarcinoma patient with multiple symptomatic BMs, who received apatinib together with brain radiation therapy. A favorable oncologic outcome was achieved for both brain metastatic lesions and the primary pulmonary tumor.Case Presentation: A 61-year-old female (never smoker) who initially presented with headache and dizziness was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma with multiple brain metastasis (cT2aN3M1b stage IV), and was negative for EGFR and ALK. The patient refused to receive chemotherapy and was only amenable to brain radiotherapy and targeted therapy. After approval from the institutional ethics committee, she underwent concurrent oral apatinib (500 mg/day) with whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) (37.5Gy) with simultaneous in-field boost (49.5Gy) in 15 fractions with image guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy. Three weeks later, neurologic symptoms entirely ceased and a partial response (PR) for the BMs with near-complete resolution of peritumoral brain edema was achieved. Chest CT performed at the same time and showed shrinkage of the lung primary with a PR. The patient suffered grade III oral mucositis one week after brain radiotherapy and refused further apatinib. At 12 months after brain radiotherapy, the brain tumors remained well controlled.Conclusions: This is the first known documentation of a rapid clinical response of apatinib concurrent with brain radiotherapy in a lung adenocarcinoma patient with symptomatic multiple BMs. Apatinib combined with brain radiotherapy could be an alternative treatment option for BMs from NSCLC, especially for those without a driver mutation. Further clinical trials are required to corroborate this discovery.

Over exploitation of groundwater in Changping District of Beijing city has caused serious land subsidence in the past decades. In recent years, the operation of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project has reduced the land subsidence rate. In this paper, Experimental tests are performed using the GDS Consolidation Testing System to characterize the compression and rebound of soils at depths of less than 100 m caused by groundwater withdrawal and recharge in Changping District. The results indicate that the compressible layers are the main contributors to land subsidence. The first compressible layer experiences greater deformation and more considerable hysteresis than the other compressible layers with the same decrease in the pore water pressure. Therefore, the exploitation of the adjacent aquifer should be controlled in the future. The deformation in the second and third compressible layers is a gradual and long-term process with little rebound; therefore, the subsidence should be seriously addressed when the groundwater in the two compressible layers is exploited on a large scale. In the same compressible layer, silty clay is more compressible and hysteretic than silt. For the same soil sample, the deformation rate decreases gradually as the pore water pressure decreases, whereas the creep deformation shows an overall increasing trend. A parameter named the subsidence index Cw is proposed in this paper to describe the soil compressibility during groundwater withdrawal. All the soil samples are characterized by elastic-plastic deformation, and the shallow soil samples with less pore water pressure decrease are more likely to rebound.

Summary: The DNA helicase FANCJ is mutated in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and Fanconi anemia (FA). Nevertheless, how loss of FANCJ translates to disease pathogenesis remains unclear. We addressed this question by analyzing proteins associated with replication forks in cells with or without FANCJ. We demonstrate that FANCJ-knockout (FANCJ-KO) cells have alterations in the replisome that are consistent with enhanced replication stress, including an aberrant accumulation of the fork remodeling factor helicase-like transcription factor (HLTF). Correspondingly, HLTF contributes to fork degradation in FANCJ-KO cells. Unexpectedly, the unrestrained DNA synthesis that characterizes HLTF-deficient cells is FANCJ dependent and correlates with S1 nuclease sensitivity and fork degradation. These results suggest that FANCJ and HLTF promote replication fork integrity, in part by counteracting each other to keep fork remodeling and elongation in check. Indicating one protein compensates for loss of the other, loss of both HLTF and FANCJ causes a more severe replication stress response. : Peng et al. find that loss of FANCJ enhances the replisome association of helicase-like transcription factor (HLTF). HLTF depletion suppresses fork degradation in FANCJ-deficient cells, and FANCJ depletion suppresses aberrant fork elongation in HLTF-deficient cells. Background and objective The epidermal growth factor receptor (EFGR) mutation was closely related to the invasion and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma and the biological axis of CXCR4/CXCL12 (chemokine receptor 4/chemokine ligand 12) played an important role in the organ-specific metastasis of the tumor. It was a question surrounding whether there is interaction between them in the process of lung adenocarcinoma metastasis. To investigate the potential molecular mechanisms of EGFR over-expression and EFGR-mutations effects on cell proliferation, migration and invasion, we constructed EGFR over-expression and three EFGR-mutant human lung adenocarcinoma H1299 cell sublines. Methods EGFR over-expression and three EFGR-mutant (EGFR-E746-A750del, EGFR-T790M and EGFR-L858R) plasmid were designed and transfected H1299 cells with Lipofectamine 2000. H1299 cells transfected with empty vector were negative control (NC), and H1299 cells without transfection were set as blank control (BC). The effects of EGFR over-expression and mutations on the proliferation, migration and invasion of H1299 cells were detected by cell cloning assay, wound healing assay and Transwell assay. The mRNA and protein expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9, CXCR4 and CXCL12 were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot. Abstract Background Inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), the rate-limiting enzyme in de novo GTP biosynthesis, plays an important role in cell metabolism and proliferation. It has been demonstrated that IMPDH can aggregate into a macrostructure, termed the cytoophidium, in mammalian cells under a variety of conditions. However, the regulation and function of the cytoophidium are still elusive. Results In this study, we report that spontaneous filamentation of IMPDH is correlated with rapid cell proliferation. Intracellular IMP accumulation promoted cytoophidium assembly, whereas elevated GTP level triggered disassociation of aggregates. By using IMPDH2 CBS domain mutant cell models, which are unable to form the cytoophidium, we have determined that the cytoophidium is of the utmost importance for maintaining the GTP pool and normal cell proliferation in the condition that higher IMPDH activity is required. Conclusions Together, our results suggest a novel mechanism whereby cytoophidium assembly upregulates IMPDH activity and mediates guanine nucleotide homeostasis.

Abstract. The accurate prediction of overall survival (OS) is important in clinical decision-making for breast cancer treatment. We developed a model to predict the OS of non-metastatic breast cancer patients in China. This multicenter study included 1844 non-metastatic breast cancer patients who underwent breast cancer surgery between January 2009 and December 2011 in 3 tertiary teaching hospitals in China. Data were collected retrospectively from the database of each hospital. We used univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analyses to screen for predictors. A nomogram was developed in the training cohort (from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital [SYSMH]), externally validated in 2 validation cohorts (from the First People's Hospital of Foshan [FPHF] and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYUCC)), and compared with CancerMath, a mathematical-based model. We used Receiver Operating Characteristic curves and calibration plots to assess the models. At median follow-ups of 65.9, 68.6, and 66.2 months, the 5-year OS rates were 93.0%, 86.7%, and 91.0% in the SYSMH, FPHF, and SYUCC cohorts, respectively. We identified age, T stage, lymph node status, estrogen receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 statuses as significant prognostic factors. A nomogram was developed and externally validated in the FPHF (area under the curve = 0.74) and SYUCC (area under the curve = 0.77) cohorts. Calibration plots showed that the predicted OS was consistent with the actual OS. The nomogram outperformed CancerMath in our study population. In summary, we developed a nomogram to predict survival among non-metastatic breast cancer patientsin China. This nomogram is superior to the CancerMath model in Chinese populations.

In this paper, we study a cooperative network-coding (NC) media-access control for the two-way two-hop relay network specified with several helpers besides a default relay node. The idle helpers can help forward relay packets. The considered protocol focuses on the channel-based time-division multiple access (TDMA) principle and is called a two-way network-coding-based cooperative relaying TDMA (TW-NCCR) protocol. As the main contribution, we analytically derive the throughput performance of TW-NCCR, and further verify it by simulation. Then, we compare it with a two-way cooperative relaying TDMA (TW-CR) protocol, which is the counterpart of TW-NCCR but applies no network coding. Both the theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that TW-NCCR provides superior throughput performance compared with TW-CR, especially when the two-way relay network is symmetric. On the other hand, no matter how weak they are, helpers are able to improve the performance of asymmetric networks using TW-NCCR, especially when the non-reciprocation packet generation rate of the relay node is small.

Abstract The study aims to develop and assess and validate a brief diabetic foot ulceration risk checklist among diabetic patients through a longitudinal study. Patients who had diabetes mellitus and had no foot ulceration and severe systematic disorders were recruited from eleven tertiary hospitals in nine provinces or municipalities of China. Internal consistency reliability, construct validity, concurrent validity, item property, and measurement invariance of the tool were assessed. The predictive capability of the tool was validated by the follow-up data using the receiver operating characteristic curve. At baseline, 477 valid cases were collected. Twelve items were remained after initial selection. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.56. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model had acceptable goodness-of-fit yet local dependency between two items. Item response theory showed that most items had acceptable discrimination and difficulty parameters. Differential item functioning showed that tool had measurement invariance. 278 were followed up one year after the baseline. Follow-up showed that one-year incidence of ulceration among the patients was 3.6%, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.77 (95% confidence interval: 0.61–0.93). The cut-off point of the tool was 4, when sensitivity and specificity were 0.62 and 0.75 respectively. The checklist has good psychometric properties according to mixed evidences from classical and modern test theory, and has good predictive capability.

Multiple variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) have spread around the world, but the neutralizing effects of antibodies induced by the existing vaccines have declined, which highlights the importance of developing vaccines against mutant virus strains. In this study, nine receptor-binding domain (RBD) proteins of the SARS-CoV-2 variants (B.1.1.7, B.1.351 and P.1 lineages) were constructed and fused with the Fc fragment of human IgG (RBD-Fc). These RBD-Fc proteins contained single or multiple amino acid substitutions at prevalent mutation points of spike protein, which enabled them to bind strongly to the polyclonal antibodies specific for wild-type RBD and to the recombinant human ACE2 protein. In the BALB/c, mice were immunized with the wild-type RBD-Fc protein first and boosted twice with the indicated mutant RBD-Fc proteins later. All mutant RBD-Fc proteins elicited high-level IgG antibodies and cross-neutralizing antibodies. The RBD-Fc proteins with multiple substitutions tended to induce higher antibody titers and neutralizing-antibody titers than the single-mutant RBD-Fc proteins. Meanwhile, both wild-type RBD-Fc protein and mutant RBD-Fc proteins induced significantly decreased neutralization capacity to the pseudovirus of B.1.351 and P.1 lineages than to the wild-type one. These data will facilitate the design and development of RBD-based subunit vaccines against SARS-COV-2 and its variants.

Abstract A series of diamides derivatives containing nicotinamide unit were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their potential cytotoxic activities against human cancer cell lines. All the synthesized compounds were characterized using spectroscopic methods mainly including 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS. The bio-evaluation results indicated that some of the obtained compounds (such as 4d, 4h, 4i) exhibited good to moderate cytotoxic effects on lung cancer cell lines (NCI-H460, A549, and NCI-H1975), especially, compound 4d exhibited the highly potential inhibitory activities against NCI-H460 cell line with the IC50 values of 4.07 ± 1.30 μg/mL, which might be developed as novel lead compounds for potential cytotoxic agents.

Siniperca fortis (Perciformes: Sinipercidae) is an endemic species in Zhujiang (Pearl) River system of China. Through genome sequence and phylogenetic analyses, the main structural characteristics of the mitochondrial genome sequence and the phylogenetic information of S. fortis were revealed. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of S. fortis was firstly determined. The genome is 16,495 bp in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 control region. The genetic distance and the ML Phylogenetic tree of 11 species in Sinipercidae supported that S. fortis was a valid species. The mitochondrial DNA information would be useful in species identification and natural resources conservation.

Breastfeeding has a wide range of benefits for both infants and mothers. The identification of factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) are important to increase the prevalence of EBF. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of EBF within the first six months and its associated factors in Kaiyuan, Yunnan Province, Southwest China. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Kaiyuan, a middle-sized city of Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Mothers of infants under twelve months were randomly selected for a face to face interview in four towns (two in urban areas and two in rural areas) in Kaiyuan. A structured questionnaire was applied for collection of sociodemographic information, mothers' and infants' health, and breastfeeding information. A 24-hour food recall survey was used to collect infant feeding information. A logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors independently associated with exclusive breastfeeding for infants up to six months of age. The number of 417 mothers with infants under six months was interviewed. The prevalence of EBF at six months was 27.34%. Logistic regression indicated that EBF within six months was more likely to be practiced by mothers who had higher average household income per year (OR = 2.09, 95% CI: 1.05-4.17 p = 0.037; OR = 1.85, 95% CI: 1.04-3.28 p = 0.037), and mothers who received breastfeeding information (OR = 2.46, (95%CI: 1.45-4.18, p = 0.0009). The prevalence of EBF in Kaiyuan, Southwest China is considerably lower than national and international recommendations. Yearly household income, and mothers who received breastfeeding information are associated with higher EBF prevalence. Breastfeeding information should be given to mothers in order to increase the prevalence of EBF.

Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) is a hereditary ocular disorder characterized by incomplete vascularization/abnormality of peripheral retina. Four of the identified disease-causing genes of FEVR were NDP, FZD4, LRP5, and TSPAN12, the protein coded by which were the components of the Norrin/β-catenin signal pathway. In this review, we summarized and discussed the spectrum of mutations involving these four genes. By the end of 2017, the number of FEVR causing mutations reported for NDP, FZD4, LRP5, and TSPAN12 was, respectively, 26, 121, 58, and 40. Three most frequently reported mutations were c. 362G > A (p.R121Q) of NDP, c. 313A > G (p.M105V), and c.1282_1285delGACA (p.D428SfsX2) of FZD4. Mutations have a tendency to cluster in some “hotspots” domains which may be responsible for protein interactions.

The Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), one of the most widely cultured shrimp species in the world, often suffers from cold stress. To understand the molecular mechanism of cold tolerance in Pacific white shrimp, we conducted a proteomic analysis on two contrasting shrimp cultivars, namely, cold-tolerant Guihai2 (GH2) and cold-sensitive Guihai1 (GH1), under normal temperature (28°C), under cold stress (16°C), and during recovery to 28°C. In total, 3,349 proteins were identified, among which 2,736 proteins were quantified. Based on gene ontology annotations, differentially expressed proteins largely belonged to biological processes, cellular components, and molecular functions. KEGG pathway annotations indicated that the main changes were observed in the lysosome, ribosomes, and oxidative phosphorylation. Subcellular localization analysis showed a significant increase in proteins present in cytosol, extracellular regions, and mitochondria. Combining enrichment-based clustering analysis and qRT-PCR analysis, we found that glutathione S-transferase, zinc proteinase, m7GpppX diphosphatase, AP2 transcription complex, and zinc-finger transcription factors played a major role in the cold stress response in Pacific white shrimp. Moreover, structure proteins, including different types of lectin and DAPPUDRAFT, were indispensable for cold stress tolerance of the Pacific white shrimp. Results indicate the molecular mechanisms of the Pacific white shrimp in response to cold stress and provide new insight into breeding new cultivars with increased cold tolerance.

Survival motor neuron (SMN) is ubiquitously expressed in many cell types and its encoding gene, survival motor neuron 1 gene (SMN1), is highly conserved in various species. SMN is involved in the assembly of RNA spliceosomes, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing. A severe neurogenic disease, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), is caused by the loss or mutation of SMN1 that specifically occurred in humans. We previously reported that SMN plays roles in stem cell biology in addition to its roles in neuron development. In this study, we investigated whether SMN can improve the propagation of spermatogonia stem cells (SSCs) and facilitate the spermatogenesis process. In in vitro culture, SSCs obtained from SMA model mice showed decreased growth rate accompanied by significantly reduced expression of spermatogonia marker promyelocytic leukemia zinc finger (PLZF) compared to those from heterozygous and wild-type littermates; whereas SMN overexpressed SSCs showed enhanced cell proliferation and improved potency. In vivo, the superior ability of homing and complete performance in differentiating progeny was shown in SMN overexpressed SSCs in host seminiferous tubule of transplant experiments compared to control groups. To gain insights into the roles of SMN in clinical infertility, we derived human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) from azoospermia patients (AZ-hiPSCs) and from healthy control (ct-hiPSCs). Despite the otherwise comparable levels of hallmark iPCS markers, lower expression level of SMN1 was found in AZ-hiPSCs compared with control hiPSCs during in vitro primordial germ cell like cells (PGCLCs) differentiation. On the other hand, overexpressing hSMN1 in AZ-hiPSCs led to increased level of pluripotent markers such as OCT4 and KLF4 during PGCLC differentiation. Our work reveal novel roles of SMN in mammalian spermatogenesis and suggest new therapeutic targets for azoospermia treatment.

Emotional and physical stress can cause various health problems. In this paper, we used tissue blood oxygen saturation (StO2), a newly proposed physiological signal, to classify the human stress. We firstly constructed a public StO2 database including 42 volunteers subjected to two types of stress. During the physical stress experiment, we observed that the facial StO2 right after the stress can be either increased or decreased comparing to the baseline. We investigated the StO2 feature combinations for the classification and found that the average StO2 values from left cheek, chin, and the middle of the eyebrow can provide the highest classification rate of 95.56%. Comparison with other stress classification method shows that StO2 based method can provide best classification performance with lowest feature dimension. These results suggest that facial StO2 can be used as a promising features to identify stress states, including emotional and physical stress.

Rhizoma Gastrodiae (also known as Tian ma), the dried rhizome of Gastrodia elata Blume, is a famous Chinese herb that has been traditionally used for the treatment of headache, dizziness, spasm, epilepsy, stoke, amnesia and other disorders for centuries. Gastrodin, a phenolic glycoside, is the main bioactive constituent of Rhizoma Gastrodiae. Since identified in 1978, gastrodin has been extensively investigated on its pharmacological properties. In this article, we reviewed the central nervous system (CNS) effects of gastrodin in preclinical models of CNS disorders including epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, affective disorders, cerebral ischemia/reperfusion, cognitive impairment as well as the underlying mechanisms involved and, where possible, clinical data that support the pharmacological activities. The sources and pharmacokinetics of gastrodin were also reviewed here. As a result, gastrodin possesses a broad range of beneficial effects on the above-mentioned CNS diseases, and the mechanisms of actions include modulating neurotransmitters, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, suppressing microglial activation, regulating mitochondrial cascades, up-regulating neurotrophins, etc. However, more detailed clinical trials are still in need for positioning it in the treatment of neurological disorders.

Facial micro-expression is a brief involuntary facial movement and can reveal the genuine emotion that people try to conceal. Traditional methods of spontaneous micro-expression recognition rely excessively on sophisticated hand-crafted feature design and the recognition rate is not high enough for its practical application. In this paper, we proposed a Dual Temporal Scale Convolutional Neural Network (DTSCNN) for spontaneous micro-expressions recognition. The DTSCNN is a two-stream network. Different of stream of DTSCNN is used to adapt to different frame rate of micro-expression video clips. Each stream of DSTCNN consists of independent shallow network for avoiding the overfitting problem. Meanwhile, we fed the networks with optical-flow sequences to ensure that the shallow networks can further acquire higher-level features. Experimental results on spontaneous micro-expression databases (CASME I/II) showed that our method can achieve a recognition rate almost 10% higher than what some state-of-the-art method can achieve.

Physiological information such as respiratory rate and heart rate in the sleep state can be used to evaluate the health condition of the sleeper. Traditional sleep monitoring systems need body contact and are intrusive, which limits their applicability. Thus, a comfortable sleep biosignals detection system with both high accuracy and low cost is important for health care. In this paper, we design a sleep biosignals detection system based on low-cost piezoelectric ceramic sensors. 18 piezoelectric ceramic sensors are deployed under the mattress to capture the pressure data. The appropriate sensor that captures respiration and heartbeat sensitively is selected by the proposed channel-selection algorithm. Then, we propose a dynamic smoothing algorithm to extract respiratory rate and heart rate using the selected data. The dynamic smoothing can separate heartbeat signals from respiratory signals with low complexity by dynamically choosing the smooth window, and it is suitable for real-time implementation in low-cost embedded systems. For comparison, wavelet analysis and ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) are performed in a personal computer (PC). Experimental results show that data collected by piezoelectric ceramic sensors can be used for respiratory-rate and heart-rate detection with high accuracy. In addition, the dynamic smoothing can achieve high accuracy close to wavelet analysis and EEMD, while it has much lower complexity.
