Background: In the contemporary academic milieu, an array of erudite investigations has meticulously delved into the ramifications of social media paradigms on the nuances of modern societal interactions. Predominantly, these scholarly endeavors have harnessed quantitative methodologies to discern both the advantageous and detrimental implications of social media. Notwithstanding these extensive analyses, there appears to be a conspicuous lacuna in the literature about the subjective repercussions of social media on the well-being and contentment of tertiary education students. In light of this gap, the present qualitative exploration seeks to elucidate the perceptions of Chinese collegiate individuals vis-à-vis the influence of social media platforms on their experiential happiness. Method: Guided by interpretative phenomenological analysis (Jonathan et al., 2022) [1], we conducted 3 semi-structured interviews with 5 university students. Result: Using an interpretive phenomenology analysis approach four themes. They are (1) The Paradox of Temperance and Indulgence, (2) Identity Construction and Presentation, (3) Social Support and Connection, and (4) Social Comparison and Self-Evaluation. Discussion: Findings suggest that the individual well-being of college students may be affected by ambivalence between moderate and indulgent use of social media, social media interactions to maintain and enhance personal identity, and comparisons between individuals and certain online groups. Therefore, the government, higher education institutions, and college students should work together to build a safe and happy university life.

Abstract Background Recently, attention has focused on the impact of global climate change on infectious diseases. Storm flooding is an extreme weather phenomenon that not only impacts the health of the environment but also worsens the spread of pathogens. This poses a significant challenge to public health security. However, there is still a lack of research on how different levels of storm flooding affect susceptible enteric infectious diseases over time. Methods Data on enteric infectious diseases, storm flooding events, and meteorology were collected for Changsha, Hunan Province, between 2016 and 2020. The Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test was used to identify the enteric infectious diseases that are susceptible to storm flooding. Then, the lagged effects of different levels of storm flooding on susceptible enteric infectious diseases were analyzed using a distributed lag nonlinear model. Results There were eleven storm flooding events in Changsha from 2016 to 2020, concentrated in June and July. 37,882 cases of enteric infectious diseases were reported. During non-flooding days, the daily incidence rates of typhoid/paratyphoid and bacillary dysentery were 0.3/100,000 and 0.1/100,000, respectively. During flooding days, the corresponding rates increased to 2.0/100,000 and 0.8/100,000, respectively. The incidence rates of both diseases showed statistically significant differences between non-flooding and flooding days. Correlation analysis shows that the best lags for typhoid/paratyphoid and bacillary dysentery relative to storm flooding events may be 1 and 3 days. The results of the distributed lag nonlinear model showed that typhoid/paratyphoid had the highest cumulative RR values of 2.86 (95% CI: 1.71–4.76) and 8.16 (95% CI: 2.93–22.67) after 4 days of general flooding and heavy flooding, respectively; and bacillary dysentery had the highest cumulative RR values of 1.82 (95% CI: 1.40–2.35) and 3.31 (95% CI: 1.97–5.55) after 5 days of general flooding and heavy flooding, respectively. Conclusions Typhoid/paratyphoid and bacillary dysentery are sensitive enteric infectious diseases related to storm flooding in Changsha. There is a lagging effect of storm flooding on the onset of typhoid/paratyphoid and bacillary dysentery, with the best lagging periods being days 1 and 3, respectively. The cumulative risk of typhoid/paratyphoid and bacillary dysentery was highest at 4/5 days lag, respectively. The higher of storm flooding, the higher the risk of disease, which suggests that the authorities should take appropriate preventive and control measures before and after storm flooding.

Abstract Conducting polymer composites possessing excellent electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) are effective methods to prevent the harm caused by electromagnetic pollution. Since COVID‐19 in 2019, people have made a lot of progress in the recycling of waste face masks (FMs). Besides, effective measures are needed to reduce the harm of microplastics (MPs) pollution in the water environment. However, so far, no publications are available in the literature that simultaneously solve the problem of electromagnetic pollution, FM pollution, and MP pollution. Herein, FMs, polystyrene MPs (PS MPs), and graphene (Gr) were used to fabricate EMI shielding composites with isolated conductive network structures via the adhesion of polydopamine (PDA). The effects of isolated conductive networks, different sizes of PS MPs, and different layers of FMs on the adsorption properties of FMs‐PDA‐Gr, as well as electrical performance for the obtained polypropylene‐PDA‐Gr composites, were studied. The composites displayed EMI SE for 29.3 dB in X‐band with 2 vol.% Gr content due to the isolated conductive network structure, which may be useful to the simultaneous elimination of garbage from electromagnetic pollution, FMs pollution, and MPs pollution to a certain degree.

Abstract Background Exosomes are a new class of molecular entities in the metastatic microenvironment, which can mediate bidirectional communication between cells. While exosomes-mediated interactions between tumor cells and other cell populations in the tumor microenvironment have attracted most attention, little is known about the significance of exosomes in mediating the interaction between non-stemness cancer cells and cancer stem cells during cancer progression. Methods The structure, sequence and downstream target miRNAs of lncRNA Mir100hg were predicted by online web resources. The bioinformatics prediction results were validated with experimental verification: exosome tracing, electron microscopy, Luciferase assay, metabolomics sequencing and mouse tail vein model of pulmonary metastasis. A complex regulatory network of "cancer stem cells-exosomal lncRNA-non-stem cancer cells" was constructed. Results This study demonstrates firstly that lncRNA Mir100hg is upregulated in lung cancer stem cell LLC-SD (Lung cancer stem cells) and can be delivered to non-stemness cancer cells LLC (Lewis lung cancer cells) via exosomes. In LLC, Mir100hg targets miR-15a-5p and miR-31-5p which leads to the increase of the global glycolytic activity of lung cancer cells and consequently, the enhancement of their metastatic capability. Conclusion We delineated a complex regulatory network that utilized by cancer stem cells to transfer their high metastatic activity to the low-metastatic non-stemness cancer cells through exosomal Mir100hg, thereby providing new mechanistic insights into the communication between two heterogeneous tumor cells. African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a lethal pathogen that causes severe threats to the global swine industry and it has already had catastrophic socio-economic effects. To date, no licensed prophylactic vaccine exists. Limited knowledge exists about the major immunogens of ASFV and the epitope mapping of the key antigens. As such, there is a considerable requirement to understand the functional monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and the epitope mapping may be of utmost importance in our understanding of immune responses and designing improved vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics. In this study, we generated an ASFV antibody phage-display library from ASFV convalescent swine PBMCs, further screened a specific ASFV major capsid protein (p72) single-chain antibody and fused with an IgG Fc fragment (scFv-83-Fc), which is a specific recognition antibody against ASFV Pig/HLJ/2018 strain. Using the scFv-83-Fc mAb, we selected a conserved epitope peptide (221MTGYKH226) of p72 retrieved from a phage-displayed random peptide library. Moreover, flow cytometry and cell uptake experiments demonstrated that the epitope peptide can significantly promote BMDCs maturation in vitro and could be effectively uptaken by DCs, which indicated its potential application in vaccine and diagnostic reagent development. Overall, this study provided a valuable platform for identifying targets for ASFV vaccine development, as well as to facilitate the optimization design of subunit vaccine and diagnostic reagents.
