Abstract

Fission cross section ratios of 233U, 238U, 232Th, 239Pu, 237Np, natural Pb and 209Bi to 235U have been measured in a wide energy range of incident neutrons from 1 MeV to 200 MeV using a time-of-flight technique at the neutron spectrometer GNEIS based on the 1-GeV proton synchrocyclotron of PNPI. For actinide targets, the threshold cross section method and evaluated data below 14 MeV were used for normalization of the shape measurement data, while the evaluated and recommended fission cross sections of 235U were used to convert the ratio data to absolute fission cross sections. For Pb and Bi targets, an absolute normalization of the measured cross section ratios has been done using the thickness of the targets and detection efficiencies.

Abstract

Consistent analysis of neutron scattering data of 238U and 232Th with Hauser-Feshbach-Moldauer theory and coupled channel model is carried out. Collective bands structures are reproduced within soft deformable rotator model. The direct excitation of ground state and vibrational band levels is calculated within rigid rotator and soft (deformable) rotator models, respectively. Structures evident in measured neutron emission spectra are correlated with excitation of vibrational levels of Kπ= 0−and Kπ= 0+, 2+bands. Prompt fission neutron spectra data are described. Contributions of neutrons, emitted in (n, nf) reactions are shown to be strongly dependent on the emissive fission contribution to the observed fission cross section.

Abstract

Relatively weak red photoluminescence of carbon dots (CDots) is a major challenge on the way to their successful implementation in biological and optoelectronic devices. We present a theoretical analysis of the interaction among the surface emission centers of CDots, showing that it may determine efficiency of the red photoluminescence of CDots. Based on the previous experimental studies, it is assumed that the optical response of the CDots is determined by the molecule-like subunits of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) attached to the CDots surface. Three characteristic types of coupling of these PAH subunits are considered: non-interacting monomers, noncovalently bound dimers, and covalently bound dimers with two, three, or four carbon linkers. We demonstrate that the CDots photoluminescence broadens, redshifts, and weakens by 2 orders of magnitude when the free monomers are substituted by the covalently bridged centers. These and other results of our study show that the realization of CDots with many weakly interacting surface emission centers may constitute an efficient way to achieve their efficient red photoluminescence, which is highly desirable for biological and optoelectronic applications.

Abstract

Intensity distribution of the primary γ-transitions following resonance neutron capture in 236U about the mean value was approximated in different energy intervals of these quanta and neutrons. Extrapolation of the obtained functions to zero registration threshold of γ-transitions allowed independent estimation of the expected level number of both parities for spin values J = 1/2, 3/2 and sum of radiative widths for both electric and magnetic gamma-transitions to levels with excitation energy up to ≈2.3 MeV.
