Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN Super Proton Synchrotron was designed to measure BR(K+ → π+νv¯) with an in-fight technique, never used before for this measurement. This decay is characterised by a very precise prediction in the Standard Model. Its branching ratio, which is expected to be less than 10−10, is one of the best candidates to indicate indirect effects of new physics beyond SM at the highest mass scales. NA62 result on K+ → π+νv¯ from the full 2016 data set is described.Also a search for an invisible dark photon A′ has been performed, exploiting the efficient photon-veto capability and high resolution tracking of the NA62. The signal stems from the chain K+ → π+π0 followed by π0 → A′γ. No significant statistical excess has been identified. Upper limits on the dark photon coupling to the ordinary photon as a function of the dark photon mass have been set, improving on the previous limits over the mass range 60 - 110 MeV/c2.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ with a decay-in-flight technique and took data in 2016–2018. The statistics collected in 2017 allows NA62 to achieve the best up–to–date single event sensitivity for K + → π + ν ν ¯ corresponding to more than 2 Standard Model K + → π + ν ν ¯ expected events. The analysis of the 2017 data has revealed 2 candidate K + → π + ν ν ¯ events, while 1.5 background were expected. Together with the candidate found on the 2016 data, this result leads to 1.85 × 10−10 as preliminary upper limit at 90% C.L. on the branching ratio of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ decay. The 2017 data also allow NA62 to achieve the best up–to–date sensitivity on the search for the π 0 → invisible decay.

Abstract: The RICH detector of the NA62 experiment is one of the key detectors to achieve the muon rejection needed in the search for the K + → π + ν ν ¯ decay, performed by NA62. Since BR(K + → µ + ν) is higher than BR( K + → π + ν ν ¯ ) by more than 9 orders of magnitude, it represents one of the most relevant background contributions. Its rejection is performed with kinematic reconstruction of the event and identification of the charged particles in the final state (π + against µ +). The pion identification efficiency using the RICH detector is measured to be 83% in the momentum range between 15 and 35 GeV/c, with a misidentification probability for muons of 0.2%, while the track crossing time is measured with a resolution of 70 ps. The RICH detector is also exploited to provide trigger for charged particles with an efficiency greater than 99%.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN offers the highest experimental sensitivity to rare and forbidden kaon decays. A search for lepton number violating processes K+→π-e+e- and K+→π-μ+μ+, using a partial data set collected by NA62 in 2016-2018, is reported. No signals are observed and upper limits at 90% confidence level on the branching fractions of these decays are obtained: 2.2x10-10 and 4.2x10-11, respectively. These results improve on previously reported measurements by factors of 3 and 2, respectively.

Abstract: Flavour physics is one of the most powerful fields for the search of new physics beyond the Standard Model. The kaon sector with the rare decay K+ → π+νν̅ provides one of the cleanest and most promising channels. NA62, a fixed target experiment at the CERN SPS, aims to measure BR (K+ → π+νν̅) with 10% precision to test the Standard Model validity up to an energy scale of hundreds of TeV. NA62 had dedicated data taking for the K+ → π+νν̅ measurement in 2016 and 2017 and will continue in 2018. Here preliminary results on a fraction of 2016 dataset are presented. The analysis of the complete 2016 data sample is expected to achieve the SM sensitivity.

Abstract: © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences. The NA48/2 experiment at CERN has collected large samples of charged kaons decaying into a pion and two muons for the search of heavy nuetrinos. In addition, its successor NA62 has set new limits on the rate of charged kaon decay into a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) and a lepton, with = e, µ, using the data collected in 2007 and 2015. New limits on heavy neutrinos from kaon decays into pions, muons and positrons are presented in this report.

Abstract: Search for heavy neutral lepton (HNL) production in charged kaon decays using the data collected by kaon experiments NA48/2 and NA62 at CERN are reported. Upper limits are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix for heavy neutral lepton mass in the range 130–450 MeV, improving on the results from previous HNL production search.

Abstract: The decay $K^{+} \to \pi^{+} \nu \bar{\nu}$, with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than $10^{-10}$, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^{+} \to \pi^{+} \nu \bar{\nu}$ with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. The statistics of the first sample collected with the full detector, in 2016, allows to reach the Standard Model sensitivity for $K^{+} \to \pi^{+} \nu \bar{\nu}$, entering the domain of $10^{-10}$ single event sensitivity and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. The preliminary result from the 2016 data set is presented.

The single event sensitivity is 3.15×10−10, corresponding to 0.267 Standard Model events. One signal candidate is observed while the expected background is 0.152 events. This leads to an upper limit of 14×10−10 on the K+→π+νν¯ branching ratio at 95% CL.

Abstract: The decay $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} v \overline{v}$, with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than $10^{-10}$, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} v \overline{v}$ with a decay-in-flight technique. NA62 took data so far in 2016-2018. Statistics collected in 2016 allowed NA62 to reach the Standard Model sensitivity for $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} v \overline{v}$, entering the domain of $10^{-10}$ single event sensitivity and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. Thanks to the statistics collected in 2017, NA62 surpasses the present best sensitivity. The analysis strategy is reviewed and the preliminary result from the 2017 data set is presented.The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays into final states with multiple charged particles in 2016-2018. The sensitivity to a range of lepton flavour and lepton number violating kaon decays provided by this data set improves over the previously reported measurements. Results from the searches for these processes with a partial NA62 data sample are presented.

Abstract: The high-intensity setup, trigger system flexibility and detector performance make the NA62 experiment at CERN particularly suitable to perform direct searches for long-lived hidden-sector particles, such as dark photons, dark scalars, axion-like particles, and heavy neutral leptons, using kaon and pion decays as well as operating the experiment in dump mode. Results from NA62 will be presented on a search for $π^0$ decays to one photon and an invisible massive dark photon. From about 400 M $π^0$ decays, no signal is observed beyond the expected fluctuation of the background and limits are set in the plane of the dark photon coupling to ordinary photon versus the dark photon mass. The analysis has been also interpreted in terms of the branching ratio for the electroweak decay $π^0 → γνν^¯$.

Abstract: The RICH detector of the NA62 experiment is one of the key detectors to achieve the muon rejection needed in the search for the ${K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu $ decay, performed by NA62. Since $BR({K^ + } \to {\mu ^ + }\nu )$ is higher than $BR({K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu )$ by more than 9 orders of magnitude, it represents one of the most relevant background contributions. Its rejection is performed with kinematic reconstruction of the event and identification of the charged particles in the final state (pions against muons). The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector (RICH) gives a muon rejection higher than a factor 100 in the momentum range 15-35 GeV/c, and measures the track crossing time with a resolution better than 100 ps. It is also exploited to provide trigger for charged particles. In this contribution the RICH detector will be described, together with its basic performance, the mirrors alignment procedure and its usage in ${K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu $ search.

Abstract: Fixed-target experiments present a complementary tool for studies of the beyond Standard Model physics in either direct searches for weakly coupled states in $\mathcal{O}(10^{7})$ − $\mathcal{O}(10^{9}) eV/ c^{2}$ mass scale or indirect searches for deviations in known processes induced by physics of much higher energy scales. The NA62 experiment dedicated to study of ultra-rare kaon decays is competitive on both these fronts thanks to its immense sensitivity and possibility of data-taking inbeam-dump mode,in which statistics of $\mathcal{O}(10^{16})\mathrm{POT}$ has been collected and another $\mathcal{O}(10^{18})\mathrm{POT}$ will follow in 2021-2023 run. This proceedings will present the published results, discuss the current status and show the future prospects of searches for exotic particles at NA62, specifically heavy neutral leptons, dark photons and axion-like particles.

Abstract: NA48/2 results contributing to ChPT testing are presented. A sample of 1663 events of the rare decay $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ has been selected with a minimume+e−eﬀective mass of 140 MeV. The measured model independent decay rate is in agreement with ChPT predictions. The branching ratio of the $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ decay, never observed so far, has been obtained from a sample of about 5000 candidates with less than 6% background, also in agreement with ChPT predictions. In addition, a most precise measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic formfactors has been obtained from 4.4 millionKe3and 2.3 millionKµ3events collected in 2004.

Abstract: The first observation of the $K^\pm → π^\pm π^0 e^+ e^-$ rare decay by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS is reported, based on $∼2\times 10^{11} K^\pm$ decays recorded in 2003-2004. From a sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background the branching ratio in the full kinematic region is measured to be BR($K^± → π^± π^0 e^+ e^-) = (4.24\pm 0.14)\times 10^-6$.The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on Chiral Perturbation Theory. The CP-violating asymmetry between $K^\pm → π^+ π^0 e^+ e^-$ and $K^- → π^- π^0 e^+ e^-$ decay rates has been measured, providing an upper limit $|A_{CP}| < 4.82 \times 10^{-2}$ at 90% CL.The NA48/2 combined measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic form factors, based on 4.4 million $K^\pm → π^0 e^± ν_e$ and 2.3 million $K^\pm → π^0 μ^\pm ν_μ$ events collected in 2004, is presented. This result represents the most precise form factor measurement from a combined $K_{l3}^{\pm}$ analysis.

Abstract: Fixed target experiments are a useful tool in the search for very weakly coupled particles in the MeV-GeV range, which are of interest, e.g. as potential dark-matter mediators. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is currently taking data for rare kaon decay measurements. Due to the high beam energy and hermetic detector coverage, NA62 also has the opportunity to directly search for a multitude of long-lived beyond-Standard-Model particles, such as dark photons, dark scalars, axion-like particles, and heavy neutral leptons. We review the status of these searches and give prospects for future data taking at NA62.

Abstract: In this paper we describe the NA62 experiment, which is a fixed target experiment at CERN SPS who aims at measuring the Branching Ratio of $K$$^{+}$ → $\pi$$^{+}$$\nu$$\bar{\nu}$$^{-}$ but also to study other rare kaon decays. Important results such as advances in measuring the Branching Ratio of $K$$^{+}$ → $\pi$$^{+}$$\nu$$\bar{\nu}$,the search for heavy neutral leptons and the search for lepton number violating kaon decays will be shown.

Abstract: In this paper we present the results of the search for heavy neutral lepton (HNL) production in charged kaon decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015. Upper limits at the $10^{-7}$–$10^{-6}$ level are established on the elements $|U_{e4}|$ and $|U_{\mu 4}|$ of the extended neutrino mixing matrix for HNL masses in the range 170–448 $\text {MeV/c}^2$ and 250–376 $\text {MeV/c}^2$, respectively.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN reports a search for the lepton number violating decays K+ -> pi(-)e(+)e(+) and K+ -> pi(-)mu(+)mu(+) using a data sample collected in 2017. No signals are observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions of these decays of 2.2 x 10(-10) and 4.2 x 10(-11) are obtained, respectively, at 90% confidence level. These upper limits improve on previously reported measurements by factors of 3 and 2, respectively.

Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)e(+)e(-) decay from an exposure of 1.7 x 10(11) charged kaon decays recorded in 2003-2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR(K-+/- -> pi(+/-)pi(0)e(+)e(-)) = (4.24 +/- 0.14) x 10(-6). The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structure dependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports the first search for K+ -> pi(+) nu(nu) over bar using the decay-in-flight technique, based on a sample of 1.21 x10(11) K+ decays collected in 2016. The single event sensitivity is 3.15 x10(-10), corresponding to 0.267 Standard Model events. One signal candidate is observed while the expected background is 0.152 events. This leads to an upper limit of 14 x10(-10) on the K+ -> pi(+) nu(nu) over bar branching ratio at 95% CL.

Abstract: NA62 is a fixed-target experiment at the CERN SPS dedicated to measurements of rare kaon decays. Such measurements, like the branching fraction of the $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} \nu \bar\nu$ decay, have the potential to bring significant insights into new physics processes when comparison is made with precise theoretical predictions. For this purpose, innovative techniques have been developed, in particular, in the domain of low-mass tracking devices. Detector construction spanned several years from 2009 to 2014. The collaboration started detector commissioning in 2014 and will collect data until the end of 2018. Abstract: The decay K + → π + v v ¯ , with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than 10−10, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the K + → π + v v ¯ with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Statistics collected in 2016 allows NA62 to reach the Standard Model sensitivity for K + → π + v v ¯ , entering the domain of 10−10 single event sensitivity and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. The analysis data is reviewed and the preliminary result from the 2016 data set presented.

Abstract: Very weakly coupled new-physics particles in the MeV-GeV range appear as mediators in various “portals” to a hidden sector. Their interaction with Standard Model particles is feeble and these states are usually long-lived, so that the experimental search fully profits of a high-intensity setup, such as that of fixed-target experiments. Within the vector portal hidden-sector model a dark photon might exist which predominantly decays to dark matter particles. A search for such an invisible particle has been performed, exploiting the efficient photon-veto capability and high resolution tracking of the NA62 detector at CERN. The signal stems from the chain K + → π + π 0 followed by the π 0 decay to a photon-dark-photon pair. No significant statistical excess has been identified. Upper limits on the dark photon coupling to the ordinary photon as a function of the dark photon mass have been set.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS provides unique opportunity to study rare and forbidden decays of K + mesons. Using the data collected in 2017 a search for the lepton number violating decays K + → π − µ + µ + and K + → π − e + e + has been performed. New upper limits on the branching ratio have been obtained: 4.2×10−11 for the muon and 2.2×10−10 for the electron mode (90% confidence level). These results improve the existing limits by factors of 2 and 3 respectively.

Abstract: Precise measurements of the branching ratios for the flavor-changing neutral current decays K → π ν ν ¯ can provide unique constraints on CKM unitarity and, potentially, evidence for new physics. It is important to measure both decay modes, K + → π + ν ν ¯ and K L → π 0 ν ν ¯ , since different new physics models affect the rates for each channel differently. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS will measure the BR for the charged channel to better than 20%. The BR for the neutral channel has never been measured. We are designing the KLEVER experiment to measure BR( K L → π 0 ν ν ¯ ) to ∼20% using a high-energy neutral beam at the CERN SPS. The boost from the high-energy beam facilitates the rejection of background channels such as K L → π 0 π 0 by detection of the additional photons in the final state. On the other hand, the layout poses particular challenges for the design of the small-angle vetoes, which must reject photons from K L decays escaping through the beam exit amid an intense background from soft photons and neutrons in the beam. We present findings from our design studies, with an emphasis on the challenges faced and the potential sensitivity for the measurement of BR( K L → π 0 ν ν ¯ ).

Abstract: The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is a key element of particle identification in the NA62 experimental strategy. According to the NA62 requirements, the RICH identifies π + and μ + in the momentum range between 15 and 35 GeV/c with a muon rejection factor of O(10 2 ), measures the arrival time of charged particles with a precision better than 100 ps and is one of the main components of the NA62 trigger system. After the commissioning in 2014–2015, the RICH detector has been successfully operated during the 2016, 2017 and 2018 data taking periods of NA62. The main design aspects and operational characteristics of the NA62 RICH are described and results on its performance, directly measured with data, are presented.
