For the first time in Russian historiography, a Russian-language translation from Turkish (literary version of Ottoman) of a manuscript of an article by the Samara imam Mukhammet-Fatykh Murtazin (18751938), sent to the religious and educational journal Asri Musulmanliq (Modern Islam, published in Simferopol in 19241927) editorial board of the People's Administration of Religious Affairs of Muslims of Crimea (NURDMK). The article entitled Islam and Civilization was planned for placement in № 13 for 1926, its translation was carried out by an employee of the Eastern Department of the OGPU in Crimea and sent for approval of the text to the Eastern Department of the OGPU in Moscow. Murtazin's manuscript contains a number of reformist ideas, loyal to the current political moment. He tried to adapt the Islamic tradition to new reality. The article was not allowed for publication due to the desire of its author to present the priority of Islamic civilization over the European and American worlds, which, obviously, did not correspond to the ideological attitudes of the workers of the Soviet special services. The authors also draw attention to the course and nature of intense theological discussion and the development of renovationist thought in the Muslim world of the Soviet Union in the 1920-ies, a discussion that took place under censorship and the emerging ideological pressure.

Desde su instalación a mediados de la década de 1840 en Buenos Aires, el folletín se integró perentorio a la prensa rioplatense. Tal integración no resultó pasiva, antes bien generó una serie de fenómenos notables en el precario y emergente mercado del impreso. Por una parte, reconocía y negociaba un horizonte poco o insuficientemente atendido hasta entonces: la cultura del entertainment; por otra, la progresiva “folletinización” de la prensa alcanzó su mayor despliegue con la propagación de imágenes impresas. En efecto, la alianza entre folletín e ilustración generó un tipo de lectura “masiva” que resultó una verdadera novedad en la República de las Letras. Este trabajo procura abordar la historia de esas relaciones, desde el ingreso del género en Buenos Aires (1846) hasta su estilizada culminación con los primeros folletines criollos de Eduardo Gutiérrez publicados en La Patria Argentina (1879-1880).

In the last few years, events like the #GamerGates and the denunciations of sexual harassment show that there are still persistent problems linked to the situation of women in the video games culture and industry. This violence is far from new. Research shows the difficulties that video games encounter when it comes to the subject of gender, may it be in the games themselves or the specialized press. As such, this article analyzes English and French video game magazines to understand how they approached the subject of women from 1985 to 2001. Our goal is to demonstrate the necessity of using a microanalysis to observe a corpus that still includes dissonances, influences, and resistance even in a patriarchal and hegemonic general context.

In advertising, one of the purposes of communication is to offer a particular product. Advertisements display the advantages, features, and values of the products. This paper aimed to analyse the language styles used in online Vogue Magazine fashion advertisements. The data were collected by selecting ten advertisements collected from Vogue Magazine’s compilation entitled “The Fall 2020 Trends Vogue Edition Editors are Shopping This Season” published on 18 September 2020. The researchers employed mixed methods to analyse the language styles used in the fashion advertisements based on nine types of language styles proposed by Wells, Burnett, and Moriarty (1995). The results showed that there were three language styles found from ten online fashion advertisements in Vogue Magazine advertisements, namely the hard sell style (three times), soft sell style (three times), and mixed style or the combination of the hard sell and soft sell styles (four times). Each advertisement style has its specific features and functions in fashion promotion.

The Iraqi Language of the Arabs is one of the most prominent Arabic magazines issued in the early 2000s، which painted a picture of the cultural، intellectual and social life of the country in that historical period. It is also considered one of the well-known magazines that enriched Arab thought and culture with important topics in various different fields.

Background: We are currently witnessing an ongoing drug overdose death epidemic in many nations linked to the distribution of illegally manufactured potent synthetic opioids. While many health policy makers and researchers have focused on the root causes and possible solutions to the current crisis, there has been little focus on the power of advocacy and community action by people who use drugs (PWUDs). Specifically, there has been no research on the role of PWUDs in engaging and influencing mass media opinion. Methods: By relying on one of the longest and largest peer-run drug user advocacy groups in the world, the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU), newspaper articles, television reports, and magazines that VANDU or its members have been directly involved in will be identified via two data bases (the Canadian Newsstream & Google News). The news articles and videos related to the health of PWUDs and issues affecting PWUDs from 1997 to the end of 2020 will be analyzed qualitatively using Nvivo software. Discussion: As our communities are entering another phase of the drug overdose epidemic, acknowledging and partnering with PWUDs could play an integral part in advancing the goals of harm reduction, treatment, and human rights. Some journals address scientific dissemination to the general readers, being permeated with scientific themes that concern everyday life, such as the Superinteressante magazine. Thus, the objective of this research was to understand how the Superinteressante magazine has approached the vaccine theme throughout its existence. To carry out the research, texts that had the term "vaccine" in their titles were selected, covering reports from the beginning of the journal in 1988 to August 2021. The research corpus consisted of 90 reports and was evaluated through analysis of the contents. In the analysis of these reports, 10 categories were obtained: 1) Vaccines against specific pathogens; 2) Alternative use of the vaccine; 3) Immunization; 4) History of Science; 5) Conceptualization; 6) Technological production; 7) Vaccine limits; 8) Vaccination hesitation; 9) Laws; 10) Forms of application of vaccines. The category that presented the most reports was "vaccines against specific pathogens", formed by 52 texts, which addressed different diseases that can or could be fought by vaccines. We noticed the existence of a greater number of texts identified in our work from the year of 2015, with the growing discussion of vaccine hesitation, and specifically from 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was concluded that the journal over the years has addressed a wide range of themes, emphasizing issues with strong social repercussions, such as the HIV vaccine search, the impacts of non-vaccination and the Covid-19 pandemic. The role of magazines in the development of modern Assamese language-literature is immeasurable. The custom of Assamese magazine which evolved in the 19th c has crossed its circling of one hundred fifty years to reach its present state. In making this custom achieve its present state numerous contributions has been done by various newspapers and magazines. In this case the role of Orunodoi magazine is worth mentioning. Published in the year 1848 by the missionaries from Sivasagar the Orunodoi magazine is the first Assamese literary magazine. By presenting discussions and news on a variety of subjects ranging from literature, history, science etc., the magazine attempts at enriching the Assamese people about the western culture as well. Along with awakening the Assamese people about their own language - literature and by broadening the intellectual and mental horizon, the Orunodoi magazine plays a crucial role in the spreading of current and self-knowledge as well as self-confidence. In this paper an attempt has been made to study the role of Orunodoi magazine in creation of the foundation of Assamese literature and its role in the growth and spread of the society, language and literature in various directions. Introduction.The author analyzes the contents filling of the scientific magazine “Ukrainian Peasant” which publishes the works of the scientists- agrarians who implement scientific problems working out of Ukrainian peasantry history. It is cleared up that during the time of its existence the magazine has maintained itself as the key professional periodical of Ukraine on the problems of agrarian history. The purpose. The pages of the magazine present the peasantry studies of the authors who accent their attention on the actual problems of agrarian history of Ukraine in different chronological periods. At the same time much attention is payed to actual problems of historiography and sources studies of the Ukrainian peasantry history. This subject is exposed in the materials under the theme headings. Published on the magazine’s pages works include the wide range of the history problems of Ukrainian peasantry and give the possibility to estimate the grade of their studies. Results. One of the most informative and contents filling magazine’s trends is lighting up of the Ukrainian agrarian history in the 19-th – beginning the 20- ieth centuries. This important period of economic and political changes in the history of the Ukrainian peasantry finds its elimination on the magazine’s pages under the heading “Ukrainian peasantry in the capitalist transformations and socio-political shock conditions of the 19-th - beginning of the 20-th centuries”. During the years of independence the subject of the Ukrainian village in the Soviet period, as NEP (New Economic Policy), Death Starvation of 1932-1933, kolkhoz building in particular and the range of the modern problems of the agrarian sector of Ukraine economy, finds its wide interpretation on the magazine’s pages. Van’da dünyaya gelen Dürrî Ahmed, 18. yüzyılda yaşamış önemli bir divan şairidir. Çocukken bir gözünü kaybetmesinden dolayı “Dürrî-yi Yek-çeşm” lakabıyla tanınmaktadır. İyi bir öğrenim gören Dürrî Efendi, küçük yaşta İstanbul’a gitmiş ve kalem kâtipliği, dîvân-ı hümâyun hocalığı, İran elçiliği, başmuhasebecilik gibi devlet görevlerinde bulunmuştur. Ayrıca şiir, inşâ ve kitâbetteki kabiliyeti sayesinde devlet erkânının ilgisini çekmiş, özellikle padişah, vezir, şehzade gibi şahsiyetlerle münasebet kurmuştur. Dürrî, şair olan kardeşleri Saʿdî ve Feyzî gibi tarih düşürme hususunda yeteneklidir. Tahta çıkmaya ve belli bir devlet makamına gelmeye; köşk, çeşme, camii yapımı gibi imar faaliyetlerine; doğum, düğün ve vefat gibi olaylara tarihler düşürmüştür. III. Ahmed, Reisü’l-küttâp Râmî Paşa, Baltacı Mehmed, Şehzade Selim gibi önemli isimlere yazılan bu şiirler, şairin devlet erkânına yakın olduğunu göstermektedir. Dürrî’nin şiirleri üzerine şimdiye kadar üç çalışma yapılmıştır. Dürrî’nin tarih manzumeleri hakkında Ziya Bağrıaçık (1996) yüksek lisans tezi, gazelleri üzerine Sadık Erdem (1996) bir makale yayımlamıştır. Dürrî Divanı’nın tam metni ise Ramazan Vural (2020) tarafından yayımlanmıştır. Bu üç çalışmada da divanın tek nüshasının yer aldığı “Süleymaniye Kütüphanesi Esad Efendi 3409” numaralı şiir mecmuasından yararlanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada “Milli Kütüphane 06 Mil Yz A 508” arşiv numaralı şiir mecmuasından hareketle Dürrî’nin divanı üzerine daha önce yayımlanmış çalışmalarda bulunmayan bir gazeline yer verilmiştir.

Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar as mudanças no projeto gráfico da revista AnaMaria, publicação destinada ao público feminino, entre 2006 e 2009, período de crescimento da classe média brasileira. Como resultado da mudança do perfil dos consumidores, bem como da exigência e expansão do mercado editorial, verificou-se significativa transformação na linguagem visual desse e de outros títulos de nicho semelhante. A evolução dessa linguagem, das referências e dos fatores determinantes para a nova proposta editorial, que perdura sem mudanças significativas até hoje, pode ser verificada neste artigo.

We live in a complex world characterised by complex people, complex times, and complex social, technological, economic, and ecological environments. The broad aim of our work is to investigate the use of ICT technologies for solving pressing problems in smart cities and societies. Specifically, in this paper, we introduce the concept of deep journalism, a data-driven deep learning-based approach, to discover and analyse cross-sectional multi-perspective information to enable better decision making and develop better instruments for academic, corporate, national, and international governance. We build three datasets (a newspaper, a technology magazine, and a Web of Science dataset) and discover the academic, industrial, public, governance, and political parameters for the transportation sector as a case study to introduce deep journalism and our tool, DeepJournal (Version 1.0), that implements our proposed approach. We elaborate on 89 transportation parameters and hundreds of dimensions, reviewing 400 technical, academic, and news articles. The findings related to the multi-perspective view of transportation reported in this paper show that there are many important problems that industry and academia seem to ignore. In contrast, academia produces much broader and deeper knowledge on subjects such as pollution that are not sufficiently explored in industry. The covers of a magazine act as a showcase with the objective of attracting the public. With the evolution of the profile of the profession, covers started to use semiotic resources directed to the secretarial category, so it is important to understand how this professional was represented the 2000s. The secretarial professional was represented on the covers of a specific magazine for this category in the 2000s in the light of semiotics. Regarding the methodological procedures, this study is characterized as descriptive, with a qualitative approach, having as a sample 12 magazines from the year 2000. The results showed the exclusion of men, the lack of representation of black, fat, and older secretaries, and the use of headlines with double meanings. Finally, from the results found, we can conclude that the issue of aesthetics, gender and sensuality of the professional was constantly reproduced, promoting the stereotype that the profession is considered feminine. Finland belongs to the few European countries that have kept alive their party press, but during the past five years, the shrinking party press, one party by one, has changed formats from newspapers to a combination of magazines and websites. These political voices, ranging from conservative to communist, are intriguingly contradictory, as they have moved to the web with support from the magazine, one of the oldest media forms. Finland thus provides an 'end result' of a problem met by many European mediascapes today: what is the role of ideological journalism in a situation that prefers speed and topicality? A magazine could provide more space for alternativeness in the forms of time axis, feature style and personal views. However, based on the present study's findings, a change of format does not seem to be the solution. Parties have continued the practice of replacing journalism by marketing communication in a desperate effort to try to develop 'something different'. The six party journals examined in this study can be divided into two groups, but in fact, all their expression modes tend to repeat mainstream neutralism. Their ideological markers are limited to choice of themes, interviewees and pictures—and during the research project, one of the most independent-sounding voices shifted to a quarterly. This work reviews the Chinese cultural and mass-educational magazine “Cultural Heritage of China” going through several issues of the magazine - those of 2016, 2017 and 2020 years. The brief history of how the magazine was established and structured is given in the first paragraphs. Following are the reviews of the magazine’s issues about the vestimental culture of China, the sensitive question of borrowing elements of Chinese culture into the Japanese oral tradition, the history of state examinations. In the last part of the review I analyze the contents of the special issue on Chinese spirits and demons.

Öz: Kitle iletişim araçlarının en önemli özelliklerinden biri de gündem belirlemeye olan katkısıdır. Bu katkıyı sağlarken kullandığı etmen ise haberdir. Haber aynı zamanda farklı kamuoylarının oluşturulmasında etkili olur. Özellikle haberin bilgilendirme boyutu tüm dünyayı etkisi altına alan COVID-19 pandemi salgınıyla birlikte daha da artmıştır. Bu dönemde haberler kitleleri bilgilendirici, yönlendirici ve gündem belirleyici önemli bir unsur haline gelmiştir. Diğer taraftan ciddi habercilik anlayışı yerine daha soft olarak adlandırılan ve genellikle ünlülerin yaşamı üzerine odaklanan magazin haberleri, salgın döneminde önemli bir toplumsal gerçeklikten kaçış aracı olarak ön plana çıkmıştır. Bu çalışmada, COVID-19 pandemi salgınında Türkiye’de magazin haberlerinin içerikleri incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, sokağa çıkma yasaklarının başlandığı 11 Nisan tarihinden 30 Nisan'a kadarki süreçte örneklem olarak alınan Posta, Sabah ve Hürriyet gazetelerinin internet siteleri içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler, istatistiki analizlerle değerlendirilmiştir. Değerlendirme sonucunda magazin haberlerinin gerçek ile kurgu arasında sınırları aştığı ve okuyucuyu toplumsal gerçeklikten uzaklaştırıcı haber yaptığı gözlenmiştir. Abstract: One of the most important features of mass media is its contribution to agenda setting. The factor it uses while making this contribution is news. The news also influences the formation of different public opinions. In particular, the informative dimension of the news has increased even more with the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the whole world. In this period, the news has become an important element that informs, guides and sets the agenda. On the other hand, magazine news that is softer rather than serious reporting, and generally focuses on the lives of celebrities, has come to the fore as an important means of escape from social reality in the pandemic period. In this study, the contents of magazine news in Turkey were examined during Covid-19 pandemic. In the study, the websites of Posta, Sabah and Hurriyet newspapers, sampled during the period from April 11, when the curfews began, to April 30, were analyzed using content analysis. The obtained data were evaluated with statistical analysis. As a result of the evaluation, it was observed that the magazine news crosses the boundaries between reality and fiction and distracts the reader from social reality.

In the whole world, independently of the country, we observe the process of media concentration. More and more huge consortia and media groups are being created. This often causes small, individual, autonomous titles, portals, radio or television stations to be displaced. This process of media evolution also affects religious media. An example of this could be the America Media consortium, with headquarters in New York. It belongs to the Jesuits, the Catholic order, and it is administered and developed by the same order. This descriptive study presents the process of the evolutionary transformation of America weekly magazine, which is over 100-years old, into a multi-dimensional media platform with a global scope. The new and modern media consortium is developing the wonderful history of the printed Catholic magazine. It is present in all the most important media areas: magazine, radio, television and internet. According to global trends, a key factor in America Media is the social media through which they bring a large number of readers, listeners and viewers. Most popular are radio podcasts and TV interviews available via Facebook and the YouTube channel. This evolutionary process is presented in the context of variety of Catholic American media. The specific elements of the mission of the Catholic consortium, the adopted development strategy, possible perspectives of this media complex in the near future, and existing difficulties are also discussed in this paper. The study was largely based on a visit made to America Media headquarters in October 2018.

Research aim. To analyze the activities of the model workshop of the Berezil Artistic Association under the leadership of V. Meller, to establish the influence on modern graphic design. Research methods. Historical-comparative, study of art analysis. Scientific novelty. For the first time, attention is focused on the activities of the model workshop in the field of design of printed products with the provision of relevant visual evidence. The analysis revealed features that relate the design activities of the workshop with the modern advertising paradigm. An attempt is made to determine the educational achievements of the formation and their agreement with other art schools of the time. Conclusions. Undeservedly little-studied activity of the model workshop in the field of printed products is one of the highest achievements of Ukrainian graphic design of the twentieth century and corresponds with similar experiments in other countries. The commonality of program principles, the identity of the applied artistic techniques and technical means with the cor rection towards the specifics of the theatrical process on the part of the model workshop and the branches of Bauhaus, De Stijl, Vkhutemas artistic practice are traced.

A new book by a famous French mass literature expert Daniel Couégnas focuses on one of the brightest belle époque periodicals, the Je sais tout magazine. The author limits his study to a certain period of the magazine’s life, from its first issue in 1905 to 1914, leaving out World War I and the later years. The article compares and analyzes literary, publicistic, and popular texts published in this magazine, leading the author to a conlusion that those texts appear isomorphic. Methodologically, Couégnas relies on the conclusion method of Сharles Grivel, a literary critic who first turned to the study of the phenomenon of the fascinating nature of fascinating phenomenon of the nature of popular reading on the one hand. On the other hand, he employs the concept of “homogenic syncretism” of periodicals, proposed by Edgar Morin, a sociologist. The author mostly focuses on the prose of Maurice Leblanc (Arsene Lupin short stories) and Gaston Leroux (Le Fauteuil hanté novel), while also paying attention to the typology of the fictional heroes (a “mad professor,” an “honourable scholar,” a criminal, a man of fashion). Using his “African impressions” (prose and documentary essays) Couégnas analyzes how the magazine approaches the problem of foreign cultural space. Couégnas thinks that the “encyclopedism” declared as the key strategy of the magazine by its editor Pierre Lafitte, was mostly lost after 1914.

Située au carrefour de l’histoire des médias et de l’histoire d’entreprise, cette étude présente les parcours des rédacteurs en chef des deux magazines phares du groupe de presse américain lancé en 1909 par l’homme d’affaires Condé Nast : Edna Woolman Chase (Vogue) et Frank Crowninshield (Vanity Fair). Par une approche croisant trajectoires biographiques et logiques de professionnalisation, il s’agit d’envisager les deux premières publications du groupe à l’aune du métier de rédacteur en chef jusqu’à la « fusion » des deux magazines (1936). Un corpus associant archives d’entreprise et sources complémentaires permet d’observer dans quelle mesure Chase et Crowninshield ont nourri, à travers Vogue et Vanity Fair, le développement d’une culture médiatique nord-atlantique. Dans cette perspective, il s’agit, dans un premier temps, d’inscrire leurs pratiques et « gestes » éditoriaux dans un contexte marqué à la fois par l’essor d’une culture imprimée transatlantique et d’une concurrence accrue entre médias de masse. Dans un second temps, cette étude élargit la focale sur les représentations des deux rédacteurs en chef, d’une part dans l’« écosystème » du groupe Condé Nast, d’autre part dans le paysage médiatique et la sphère publique. À travers l’étude des pratiques et des représentations d’Edna Chase et Frank Crowninshield s’esquisse plus largement leur rôle dans l’écriture de la success story Condé Nast.

L’article prolonge les réflexions sur l’américanisation de la presse magazine au Québec durant l’entre-deux-guerres, en analysant dans les périodiques eux-mêmes les rapports entre la rhétorique antiaméricaine, l’axiome national et la moyennisation des pratiques et discours culturels et médiatiques. L’analyse porte sur deux magazines publiés au tournant des années 1930, soit La Revue moderne (1919-1960) et Mon Magazine (1926-1932), et s’intéresse plus spécifiquement au discours éditorial des périodiques, ainsi qu’à deux initiatives exemplaires : un concours littéraire et la construction d’une « maison moderne ».
