Aim: Climate change is affecting biodiversity at an accelerating rate. Despite the importance of fungi in ecosystems in general, and in the global carbon and nitrogen cycle in particular, there is little research on the response of fungi to climate change compared with plants and animals. Earlier studies show that climatic factors and tree species are key determinants of macrofungal diversity and distribution at large spatial scales. However, our knowledge of how climate change will affect macrofungal diversity and distribution in the future remains poorly understood. Location: Europe. Methods: Using openly available occurrence data of 1845 macrofungal species from eight European countries (i.e. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain), we built ensemble species distribution models to predict macrofungal response to climate change alone and combined climate and tree distribution change under the IPCC special report on 2080 emissions scenarios (SRES A2 and B2). Results: Considering climate change alone, we predict that about 77% (74.1%–80.7%) of the modelled species will expand their distribution range, and around 57% (56.1%–58.4%) of the modelled area will have an increase in macrofungal species richness. However, when considering the combined climate and tree species distribution change, only 50% (50%–50.9%) of the species are predicted to expand their distribution range and 49% (47.4%–51.1%) of the modelled area will experience an increase in macrofungal species richness. Main Conclusions: Overall, our models projected that large areas would exhibit increased macrofungal species richness under future climate change. However, tree species distribution might play a restrictive role in the future distributional shifts of macrofungi. In addition, macrofungal responses appear heterogeneous, varying among species and regions. Our findings highlight the importance of including tree species in the projection of climate change impacts on the macrofungal diversity and distribution on a continental scale. Traditional chemical pesticides pose potential threats to human health, the environment, and food safety, and there is an urgent need to develop botanical pesticides that are easily degradable, renewable, and environmentally compatible. This research serves to detect the lethal impacts of Amanita pantherina(DC.:Fr) Schrmm.(Agaricales, Amanitaceae, Amanita), Amanita virgineoides Bas (Agaricales, Amanitaceae, Amanita), Coprinus comatus (O.F.Müll.) Pers. (Agaricales, Psathyrellaceae, Coprinus), Pycnoporus cinnabarinus(Jacq.:Fr) Karst (Polyporales, Polyporaceae, Polyporus) and Phallus rubicundus (Bosc) Fr. (Phallales, Phallaceae, Phallus) on Drosophila melanogaster(Diptera, Drosophilidae, Drosophila), including their effects on lifespan, fecundity, offspring growth and developmental characteristics, antioxidant enzyme activity, peroxide content, and the gene transcription associated with signaling pathways and lifespan of D. melanogaster. The results demonstrated that they all produced lethal effects on D. melanogaster. Female flies were more sensitive to the addition of macrofungi to their diet and have a shorter survival time than male flies. The toxic activity of A. pantherina-supplemented diet was the strongest, so that the D. melanogaster in this group had no offspring. The macrofungal-supplemented diets were able to significantly reduce the activity of antioxidant enzymes, accumulate peroxidation products, up-regulatd the transcription of genes related to signaling pathways, inhibit the expression of longevity genes, reduce the lifespan and fertility of D. melanogaster. Consequently, we hypothetically suggest that medicinal C. comatus, P. cinnabarinus and P. rubicundus hold the potential to be developed into an environmentally friendly biopesticide for fly killing. Wood-inhabiting fungi are abundant in China, but their distribution is uneven, with more fungi in southwest China and fewer fungi in northwest China. During the investigation of wood-inhabiting fungi in Xinjiang, we collected a large number of specimens. Eight specimens growing on Picea schrenkiana were collected from Tianshan Mountains, and they were described as two new species in Ceriporiopsis and Sidera based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. Ceriporiopsis tianshanensis is characterized by a cream to salmon-buff pore surface, larger pores measuring 1-3 per mm, and broadly ellipsoid basidiospores 5-6.5 × 3-4 µm. Sidera tianshanensis is characterized by annual to perennial basidiocarps, measuring 15 mm thick, pores 5-7 per mm, cream to rosy buff pore surface, and allantoid basidiospores 3-3.5 × 1-1.4 µm. Biogenic synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) is emerging as a feasible, economical, sustainable, biocompatible, and alternative approach to utilize biomolecules derived from the organisms. The use of microbes or their metabolites for biogenic NPs synthesis also imparts the biological active antimicrobial potential of the organism which has widened the application of NPs in an effective and economically friendly way. The biological reduction of metals provides NPs of desirable size and morphology with higher physiochemical characteristics, lower toxicity, and high stability. Fungi are the most preferred for the biogenic synthesis of NPs due to high biomass production, secretion of a high quantity of extracellular nano-particles stabilizing proteins, ease in handling, and high metal tolerance. The present review provides an overview of the biogenic synthesis of metal NPs using micro and macrofungi, mechanism, their optimization process and their applications in the field of agriculture. Macrofungi are among the most promising sources of biologically active natural products with nutritional qualities and therapeutic values. In this work, the nutritional value of nine species of wild macrofungi from Ibague-Tolima (Colombia) was evaluated. In addition the antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of an ethanol:water (70:30) extract of wild basidiomata were evaluated. The wild mushrooms' nutritional potential showed that the genus Pleurotus and Lentinus have the best protein percentages, with 18.4% and 18.5%. The nine extracts evaluated managed to stabilize the two radicals evaluated; however, lower IC50 was found for Phellinus gilvus and Ganoderma australe extracts. The results showed that Trametes coccinea, Pleurotus floridanus and Ganoderma australe extracts were the most effective as antimicrobials, with high inhibition percentages against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Antifungal activity results against Rhizopus oryzae, Penicillium sp. and Aspergillus niger showed that the nine extracts were effective at the concentrations tested. Considering cell viability against isolated leukocytes, seven of the nine extracts showed percentages higher than 50% of cell viability. AbstractWound care has become increasingly important over the years. Various synthetic products for wound care treatment have been reported to cause toxic side effects and therefore natural products are in significant demand as they have minimal side effects. The presence of bioactive compounds in medicinal mushrooms contributes to various biological activities which assist in the early inflammatory phase, keratinocyte proliferation, and its migration enhancement which are pertinent to wound rehabilitation. Lignosus rhinocerus (tiger milk mushroom) can reduce the inflammation phase in wound healing by fighting off bacterial infection and modulating pro-inflammatory cytokines expression in the early stage to avoid prolonged inflammation and tissue damage. The antibacterial, immunomodulating, and anti-inflammatory activities exhibited by most macrofungi play a key role in enhancing wound healing. Several antibacterial and antifungal compounds sourced from traditional botanicals/products may prevent further complications and reoccurrence of injury to a wounded site. Scientific studies are actively underway to ascertain the potential use of macrofungi as a wound healing agent.

Macrofungi have long been used as food and medicinal purposes by humankind. This study aimed to identify a macrofungus sample collected from Niğde, Türkiye in 2019 via molecular techniques and determine the content of total phenolic compounds, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. According to data obtained from the sequence analysis of ITS fragment of rDNA the macrofungus sample was identified as Bjerkandera adusta (Willd.) P. Karst (1880). The sample was extracted with ethanol and methanol. Total phenolic compound content, antioxidant activity via DPPH scavenging method and antimicrobial activity via disc diffusion method of B. adusta was determined by using these extracts. The amount of total phenolic compounds was found as 772.28 µg GAE/mL for a methanolic extract of B. adusta. The ethanol extract of B. adusta showed 79.66% scavenging activity of 0.1 mM DPPH solution. The highest inhibition zone diameter was measured as 28±1 mm against P. aeruginosa by ethanolic extract, while the lowest antimicrobial activity was found in 15 µL methanol extract against S. typhimurium with an inhibition zone diameter of 8.7±1.2 mm.

The mesophytic mountain forest is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in Mexico, in which there is a diverse mycobiota of which many aspects of its biology and properties are unknown. Pseudomarasmius nidus-avis is a recently discovered and described fungus that forms rhizomorphs used in the nesting habits of birds of the family Tyrannidae (Mionectes oleagineus and Tolmomyias sulfurescens). In this work, the bioactive properties of P. nidus-avis, seven basidiomycetes and two wild ascomycetes from the mesophytic mountain forest of central Veracruz state, Mexico, were evaluated in terms of their effect against phytopathogenic fungal (PF) species such as Fusarium oxysporum (ATCC-417 and CBF-185), Sclerotium cepivorum (CBF414) and Leptosphaerulina australis (CBF-433), which generate important economic losses in several crops. In vitro confrontation tests of mycelium isolated from the macrofungi against the PFs were developed, where 50 % of the wild fungi, including P. nidus-avis, showed effect on the phytopathogens. Furthermore, the crude extract obtained from the mycelium and supernatant of P. nidus-avis was evaluated against PF, showing an inhibition of 16.08 % against F. oxysporum (ATCC-417). The tropical montane cloud forest in Mexico is the most diverse and threatened ecosystem. Mexican macrofungi numbers more than 1408 species. This study described four new species of Agaricomycetes (Bondarzewia, Gymnopilus, Serpula, Sparassis) based on molecular and morphological characteristics. This study was carried out on macrofungus specimens naturally grown and collected in the region located within the borders of central and Hamur district of Ağrı province between 2018-2019. It has been determined that the mushroom samples identified as a result of field and laboratory studies have a total of 57 macrofungi taxa, which are distributed in 5 orders and 20 families belonging to the Pezizomycetes and Agaricomycetes classes. Of these, 31 are edible, 20 are inedible, and 6 are poisonous. Lactarius bhaderwahensis sp. nov. is here described as a new species from coniferous forests of Jammu. Morphological and molecular (nrITS) sequence data placed the new species within Lactarius subg. Plinthogalus. It is characterized by its basidiocarps with brown to cinnamon‐brown to greyish brown pileus, abundant white latex that turns light orange to greyish orange, globose to subglobose basidiospores with winged ornamentations having ridges forming a broken reticulum, trichopalisade pileipellis and occurrence under Abies pindrow. A detailed macro‐ and micro‐morphological description along with anatomical photographs, line drawings, phylogenetic analysis and comparisons with similar species are provided. Although West Asia potentially represents one of the diversity hotspots for several groups of fungi, our knowledge of the funga in this region is fragmentary. Here, we provide a list of macrofungal species from Iran and performed a comparative analysis of macrofungal diversity in 12 regions worldwide. The list was compiled from relevant national/international conference letters, GenBank submissions, and published literature in Persian, English, and other languages. In total, 1333 species of macrofungal Asco- and Basidiomycota are listed which were reported from 31 provinces of Iran. We have classified the reported fungi into 12 predefined morphogroups, with most of them being agaricoid species (60%). The Hyrcanian forests that stretch along the Caspian Sea coast in northern Iran are the most species-rich region. Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) was used to check the number of worldwide occurrences of the reported species which revealed a total of 17 species were exclusively reported from Iran. We suggest that globally rare or low-occurrence species from Iran require global attention and potentially can contribute to the IUCN list of endangered species. Based on comparisons between the macrofungi of Iran and that of various countries, the Iranian species composition is found to be similar to those of the Mediterranean regions. Two new wood-inhabiting fungi from China, Steccherinum juniperi and S. incrustans, in the family Steccherinaceae are described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular analyses. The species S. juniperi was found growing on the rotten wood of Juniperus in Qinghai Province, China, while S. incrustans was collected on rotten angiosperm wood in Yunnan Province, China. The characteristics of S. juniperi include annual, resupinate basidiomata with a buff yellow fresh pore surface that becomes apricot orange when bruised, angular pores of 3-6 per mm, subicular generative hyphae sometimes covered with crystals, the presence of encrusted skeletocystidia in tube trama only, fusiform to slim clavate cystidioles, and ellipsoid basidiospores measuring as 3-4 × 2-3µm. The characteristics of S. incrustans include annual, resupinate basidiomata with a buff yellow or pinkish buff to clay buff dried pore surface, angular pores (8-10 per mm), generative hyphae in trama frequently covered with crystals, the presence of encrusted skeletocystidia in tube trama and hymenium, and ellipsoid basidiospores (3.5-4.5 × 2.5-3.5µm). Phylogenetic analysis based on a combined 2-locus dataset [ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS) + nuclear large subunit RNA (nLSU)] shows that the two species are members of Steccherinum, and they are compared with morphologically similar and related species of this genus, respectively. In addition, two new combinations from Junghuhnia, transferred to Steccherinum as S. austrosinense and S. nandinae, are proposed based on examination of their type materials and phylogenetic analysis. In this study, Podoscypha was taxonomically and phylogenetically evaluated. In total, five specimens collected from the tropical areas of Yunnan Province in Southwest China were studied. In combination with morphological observations and phylogenetic analyses based on ITS and LSU loci, two new species and one new subspecies, Podoscypha subinvoluta, P. tropica, and P. petalodes subsp. cystidiata, respectively, were discovered. Deficiencies of macro- and micronutrients and low protein content in foods are causing salient epidemic ailments in all genders, ages, and most especially immunocompromised individuals. This study, therefore, reveals proximate composition, minerals, amino acid contents, and antioxidative activity of unfortified and fortified wheat cookies with edible mushroom (Termitomyces robustus) and different insects, namely Brachytrupes membranaceus, Macrotermes nigeriensis, and Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. Wheat cookies with T. robustus and R. ferrugineus have the highest protein, crude fiber, iron, potassium, and magnesium contents of 17.20%, 14.01%, 818.00 mg/100 g, 573.81 mg/100 g, and 183.90 mg/100 g, respectively. The highest zinc content of 625.02 mg/100 g was present in wheat cookies fortified with mushroom and B. membranaceus. Valine (6.17 mg/100 g) was the highest amino acid present in cookies with mushroom and R. ferrugineus. The supplementation of cookies with edible mushroom and insects is a promising and possibility of improving nutritional, bio-functional, and health-promoting effects of baked foods to combat diseases associated with nutrient deficiencies. The unique and superior natural environment in North China is bred with extremely rich species and resources of macrofungi, in order to explore the diversity of macrofungi species resources in Shanxi province and their habitat and ecological characteristics, in this study, macrofungi species resources in the region were collected and identified. During the identification process, two species collected from the Lishan Mountain and Lüliang Mountain regions were found to belong to the new recorded species in North China. The names of these two species were determined by specific amplification of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of rDNA, sequence alignment, construction of phylogenetic trees, and detailed morphological description, namely Volvariella murinella and Strobilurus orientalis, respectively. The main distinguishing features of Volvariella murinella are that the Basidiocarp was small to medium-sized, Pileus had radial fine cilia, white, the center was light beige, the color of the stipe was the same as that of the Pileus, smooth or with longitudinal cilia; Strobilurus orientalis was characterized by small, smooth, oval basidiospores and thick Pleurocystidia wall. Recently, the utilization of biological agents in the green synthesis of nanoparticles has been given interest. In this study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized from an aqueous extract of macrofungus (mushroom), namely Phellinus adamantinus, in a dark room using 20 µL of silver nitrate. Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles were confirmed by analyzing them using a UV-Vis (ultraviolet-visible) spectrophotometer. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were optimized at different pH and temperatures with various dosages of AgNO3 (silver nitrate) and fungal extracts. The synthesized AgNPs (silver nanoparticles) were characterized using TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray) analyses, which confirmed the presence of silver nanoparticles. The size of the nanosilver particles was found to be 50 nm with higher stability. The mycosynthesized AgNPs showed effective antibacterial activity against strains of Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative (E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was found to be 3.125 μg/mL by MIC assay. The MTT assay (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl] 2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) was performed to study cytotoxicity, and reduced cell viability was recorded at 100 μg/mL. Silver-Polygalacturonic acid-Polyvinyl alcohol ((Ag-PGA)-PVA) nanofiber was prepared using the electrospinning method. The in vitro wound scratch assay was demonstrated to study the wound-healing efficacy of the prepared nanofiber. The wound-healing efficacy of the AgNP-incorporated nanofiber was found to be 20% after 24 h. This study will lay a platform to establish a unique route to the development of a novel nanobiomaterial and its application in antibacterial and wound-healing therapy.

Hymenochaetales, belonging to Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota, comprises most polypores and corticioid fungi and, also, a few agarics. The latest taxonomic framework accepts 14 families in this order. When further exploring species diversity of Hymenochaetales, two corticioid specimens collected from China producing cystidia with large umbrella-shaped crystalline heads attracted our attention. This kind of cystidia was reported only in three unsequenced species, viz. Tubulicrinis corneri, T. hamatus and T. umbraculus, which were accepted in Tubulicrinaceae, Hymenochaetales. The current multilocus-based phylogeny supports that the two Chinese specimens formed an independent lineage from Tubulicrinaceae as well as the additional 13 families and all sampled genera in Hymenochaetales. Therefore, a monotypic family, Umbellaceae, is newly described with the new genus Umbellus as the type genus to represent this lineage. The two Chinese specimens are newly described as U. sinensis, which differs from T. corneri, T. hamatus, and T. umbraculus in a combination of a smooth to grandinioid hymenophoral surface, not flattened, broadly ellipsoid basidiospores with a tiny apiculus, and growth on angiosperm wood. Due to the presence of the unique cystidia, the three species of Tubulicrinis, even though they lack available molecular sequences, are transferred to Umbellus as U. corneri, U. hamatus, and U. umbraculus. Hereafter, all known species with large umbrella-shaped crystalline-headed cystidia are in a single genus. In summary, the current study provides a supplement to the latest taxonomic framework of Hymenochaetales and will help to further explore species diversity and the evolution of this fungal order.

Food, not nutrients, is the fundamental unit in nutrition, and edible mushrooms are fungi that supply unique biological bioactive compounds, different from plant or animal origin, which significantly impact human health status. However, to date all these concepts are interpreted in different ways, with rapidly increasing knowledge on nutrition, medicine, molecular biology, and plant biotechnology changing the concepts of food, health, and agriculture. The bioactive elements conveyed by foodstuffs as nutrients or non-nutrients interfere with human metabolism and have influence on health, aging, and well-being. The influence of edible mushrooms on medicinal interventions has been known and studied for many years and their latest role in neurodegenerative disorders has been recently investigated, while their significance on many other diseases has been well demonstrated. Despite considerable research, the etiology and pathogenesis of Ménière’s disease remains controversial and undefined, although usually associated with allergic, genetic, or trauma sources, and with viral infections and/or immune system-mediated mechanisms. With treatment still unknown, our attention is towards the eventual impact of complementary dietary interventions, synthesizing the recent knowledge of some edible mushrooms and preparations on Ménière’s disease, which is a lifelong condition that can develop at any age, but most commonly emerges between 40 and 60 years of age. It is demonstrated that the oral administration of a biomass preparation, with 3 g/day of the mushroom Coriolus versicolor for 2 to 6 months, on some 40 human Ménière’s disease patients reduced systemic oxidative stress and cellular stress response, decreased the number of crises and their duration, and the frequency of symptoms, improving the clinical grading of tinnitus severity.

During the routine survey for exploring the hidden macrofungal wealth of tropical Sal (Shorea robusta Roth) forests in West Bengal and Jharkhand (India), we found a specimen similar to Tylopilus plumbeoviolaceous (Snell & E.A.Dick) Snell & E.A.Dick. After careful morphological observations and phylogenetic analysis, the species was found to be conspecific with Tylopilus glutinosus Iqbal Hosen, a recently established taxon from Bangladesh. We report T. glutinosus for the first time from India and provide a detailed description, figures, a multigene phylogenetic analysis, and comprehensive comparisons with similar species. A distributional map is also provided.

Hainan is the second largest island in China with the most extensive and wellpreserved tropical forests and is also the largest island of the Indo Burma Biodiversity Hotspot. It provides in situ conservation for the unique ecosystem of the island. Recent studies have shown that there are diverse fungal species in Hainan. In this study, about 40 collections of the genus Amanita have been studied based on the morphology and molecular systematics, including 35 Chinese specimens (24 from Hainan, and eleven from other regions) and three specimens from other countries (Singapore and Malaysia). In total, five new species belonging to Amanita section Validae are described: A. cacaina, A. parvigrisea, A. pseudofritillaria, A. pseudosculpta, and A. yangii. Amanita parvifritillaria is recorded for the first time in Hainan. It is also the first report of this fungus occurring, outside Yunnan Province, China. Among the five new species, two are unique in this section because of the appendiculate pileus margin and the absence of an annulus. Based on these new findings, the diagnosis of the section Validae should be slightly modified to include a few species with appendiculate margin and the lack of annulus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Routine macrofungal explorations of different Shorea robusta dominated forest areas of Jharkhand and West Bengal are being undertaken since 2020. A specimen classified as "Thaxterogaster" was collected recently from these states and here proposed as Thaxterogaster shoreae sp. nov. within subg. Scauri sect. Purpurascentes. Detailed morphological description, illustrations 2-locus phylogenetic estimations and comparisons with respective allied species are provided. Phellodon is a genus of ectomycorrhizal fungi with important ecological roles and exploitable biological activities. In this study, four new species of Phellodon, P. caesius, P. henanensis, P. concentricus and P. subgriseofuscus, are described from China based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. The phylogenetic analyses of Phellodon were carried out based on the ITS + nLSU gene regions and the combined sequence dataset of ITS + nLSU + nSSU + RPB1 + RPB2 gene regions. Phellodon caesius is characterized by its dark bluish-grey, dark grey to black grey pileus, ash grey to dark bluish-grey spines, and the presence of both simple septa and clamp connections on generative hyphae of stipe. Phellodon concentricus is characterized by its zonate pileal surface, dark grey context in pileus, and spongy basidiomata. Phellodon henanensis is characterized by its ash grey, light vinaceous grey to light brown pileal surface, thin context in pileus, and the presence of both simple septa and clamp connections on generative hyphae of spines. Phellodon subgriseofuscus is characterized by its fuscous to black pileal surface, white to light brown spines, and vinaceous grey context. Objective(s): This study was designed to investigate the protective effects of Calocybe indica extract on testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia in rats. Materials and Methods: In this study, 60 adult Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into six equal groups, one group served as the normal control, five of the groups were administered subcutaneous testosterone propionate for 28 days to induce benign prostatic hyperplasia, three of the five groups were simultaneously administered three graded doses of C. indica extract while one group was administered finasteride as the standard drug and the other left as untreated BPH model group given testosterone propionate only. BPH in the prostate gland was detected through gross appearance, prostate weight, and biochemical and histopathological analyses. Results: Increased prostate weight, serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and epithelial thickness were observed in the untreated testosterone-induced BPH model. Administration of finasteride and C. indica extract led to a reduction in prostate weight, prostatic index, serum PSA, serum levels of testosterone, and prostatic epithelial thickness, and increased luminal diameter. Conclusion: Administration of C. indica extract suppressed the pathophysiological effects of benign prostatic hyperplasia in rats. Twelve macrofungal species collected in 2012-2020 were identified as new records to the Lithuanian Mycota: Agaricus subperonatus, Desarmillaria ectypa, Entoloma eminens, Hebeloma quercetorum, Hydnellum scabrosum, Hygrophoropsis rufa, Hohenbuehelia unguicularis, Hortiboletus bubalinus, Lactarius mammosus, Lactarius scoticus, Melanogaster broomeanus, Schizophyllum amplum. The "Funga Capixaba" have been overlooked for a very long time, leading to a gap in the local mycological knowledge. In order to create a preliminary and updated list of Ascomycetes and lichen-forming fungi from Espírito Santo state, Brazil we reviewed all specimens deposited in the VIES Herbarium and key references of former mycological studies. In our list, we report a total of 528 species belonging to 173 genera and 65 families. 422 are new records for Espírito Santo state, six species, Mazaediothecium uniseptatum, Cratiria chloraceus, Lecanora glaucoidea, Pyrenula montocensis, and P. oleosa, are new records both for the neotropics and Brazil, and Lobariella pseudocrenulata is also new to Brazil. We have increased the number of accepted macrofungi species names from 85 to 528, which makes the Espírito Santo state the 10th highest in terms of known fungal diversity among Brazilian states. An updated and preliminary list of macroscopic Ascomycota including lichen-forming fungi from Espírito Santo, comments, and a brief overview about the local mycology are provided. Sengon-wood sawdust (SWD) is the waste generated from the sawmill industry and can be utilized as making ethanol and pulp because the waste contains high fiber. The material is processed through biodelignification by white rot fungi. The purpose of this study was to observe the growth of Phanerochaete chrysosporium (PC) and Trametes versicolor (TV) in the biodelignification process of wood sawdust Sengon with a single culture and mixed culture with the growth of white rot fungi macroscopic (spread of the mycelium, the color powder, texture powder) and microscopic (surface properties and thickness of mycelium) using Flat Digital Microscope and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). This research method used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor: the type of white rot fungi; J1: Phanerochaete chrysosporium, J2: Trametes versicolor), J3: a mixture of PC + TV, with each 3 repetitions. The results showed that The growth of single-culture Phanerochaete chrysosporium in the process of biodelignification of sengon sawdust (SWD) is best compared to single-culture TV and co-culture PC+TV. The results of this study provide information on the selection of types of fungi that have the potential to release lignin, which facilitates the process of pulping or alcoholic fermentation for biofuels. Macrofungi are ecologically resourceful group of organisms exists in every possible ecosystem. Borail Reserve Forest of Dima Hasao district, Assam is endowed with typical Sub tropical monsoon climate which provide adequate habitat for the growth and development of various types of vegetation as well as diverse species of macrofungi. The study attempts to assess the macrofungal diversity in certain areas of Borail Reserve Forest as it is yet to explore. The investigation was conducted in the year 2021 (June-December). Sampling was done using quadrat method each measuring 100×100m2. During the survey, a total of 21 species belonging to 15 families were encountered and identified up to species level i.e. Auriculariaceae, Clavulinaceae, Psathyrellaceae, Fomitopsidaceae, Ganodermataceae, Agaricaceae, Lyophyllaceae, Marasmiaceae, Polyporaceae, Phallaceae, Pluteaceae, Schizophyllaceae, Stereaceae, Tremellaceae and Xylariaceae. It is found that 20 species belong to basidiomycota group and only 1 species belongs to ascomycota group. However, Marasmiaceae and Polyporaceae family are found to be the most dominant family of macrofungi in the region. The inference of the study revealed the diverse treasure of macrofungi of Borail Reserve Forest. The record of macrofungi of the study gives the baseline information for the biological diversity. The significance of macrofungi is not only to balance the ecosystem dynamics but also in human diet and beneficial impact to health, which increases the need for the conservation of this valuable resource. This research focuses onmacrofungi in Baotianman Biosphere Reserve and their relationships with plant ecosystems. The findings demonstrate the reserve’s macrofungal resources. The study collected 832 specimens, among which 351 macrofungi species were identified, belonging to six classes, 19 orders, 54 familiae, and 124 genera, and one new species of Abortiporus was found. Among them, 11 familiae with a total of 231 species were dominated, accounting for 20.37% of the total number of familiae and 65.81% of the total number of species; 14 genera with a total of 147 species were dominated, accounting for about 11.38% the total number of genera and 41.88% of the total number of species. The richness of macrofungi at the species level was considerably different across the four vegetation types in the reserve, showing that the vegetation types had a bigger influence on macrofungi. In the evaluation of macrofungal resources, a total of 196 species of edible fungi, 121 species of medicinal fungi, 52 species of poisonous fungi, and 37 species of macrofungi with unclear economic value were counted. Abortiporus baotianmanensis is a new species of podoscyphaceae in the genus Abortiporus. The new species display the reserve’s richness. Members of the family Inocybaceae (Agaricales, Basidiomycota), one of the most diverse ectomycorrhiza-forming macrofungi of urban landscapes were studied. We performed phylogenetic analysis of 28 specimens (23 Inocybe spp., 3 Mallocybe spp., 2 Pseudosperma spp.) collected in anthropogenically influenced habitats of Budapest, Hungary. The internal transcribed spacer region of the nuclear ribosomal RNA cistron (nrDNA ITS) was sequenced for barcoding purposes of our Inocybaceae specimens. Identification to a presumptive species level was successful in the case of 24 species although one interesting Inocybe sp. and three Mallocybe spp. could not be determined. Five species, Inocybe ghibliana, I. pararubens, I. psammobrunnea (syn. I. griseotarda), I. obscuroides (syn. Sanguinoderma is distributed in tropical and subtropical areas as a member of Amauroderma s. lat., and the economic values of Sanguinoderma led to high attention in the taxonomic studies. Previously, 16 species have been developed into Sanguinoderma. In this study, the taxonomic system of Sanguinoderma was reconducted based on morphological and multi-gene phylogenetic analyses, especially making a distinction for Sanguinoderma rugosum complex. Morphological analysis was based on the notes of macro- and micro morphological observations. Multi-gene phylogenetic analyses were used maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) analyses inferred from combined dataset of ITS, nLSU, rpb2, tef1, mtSSU, and nSSU. Combined with morphological characters and phylogenetic evidence, the results demonstrated that S. rugosum complex consists of five taxa, in which Sanguinoderma leucomarginatum was described as a new species, and it is characterized by the orbicular pilei with white to bu margin when fresh and clavate apical cells of pileipellis with septa. In addition, Amauroderma preussii was transferred to Sanguinoderma as a new combination due to its blood-red color-changed pore surface; it is characterized by the funnel-shaped, greyish brown, and glabrous pilei with strongly incurved margin. Detailed descriptions and photographs of the two species were provided. With the extension of this study, 18 species were accepted in Sanguinoderma, and 12 species among them were distributed in China. A key to accepted species of Sanguinoderma was also provided. A novel mushroom species occurring on soil was collected from Margalla Hills National Park, Pakistan, during July and August 2018 and 2019. Phylogenetic analyses of the nrDNA ITS and nuLSU regions revealed that this species clustered within the genus Termitomyces. Further morpho-anatomical analyses confirmed its uniqueness, and it is here referred to as a new species under the name Termitomyces islamabadensis. It differs from T. heimii, which is a species it closely resembles, by having a fusiform stipe, large obovoid to lacrymoid basidiospores 8.4–11.5 × 5–7.3 μm, narrowly pyriform to broadly pyriform cheilocystidia 24.3–40.3 × 8.5–22.5 μm, and narrowly utriform to oblong pleurocystidia 12.5–23.4 × 4.5–7.3 μm. Mushrooms have been considered an important part of human life due to their various benefits and potential. In Indonesia, many indigenous people get used to foraging and using wild mushrooms as part of their daily lives. To date, there was no update following prior local name checklist of wild mushroom and their uses in Indonesia. Thus, this review aims to provide the latest work on that information known so far in the country. A literature review was focusing on available publications containing the local names and the use of wild mushrooms in Indonesia. 107 mushrooms in total are known to have 170 local names with 36 of them having more than 1 indigenous name. Some of them: Coprinus spp., Polyporus spp., Schizophyllum commune, Scleroderma spp., Termitomyces spp., and Trametes spp. are known to have 5 local names for each region and ethnicity that uses them. 50 species of mushrooms in total are used as food and traditional medicine. The information was derived from 8 provinces and 8 tribes, of which West Kalimantan Province and Javanese ethnicity contributed to the highest number of it. Studies on tropical fungi remain scant, especially in Borneo. Kadamaian is located near the Kinabalu National Park and has an aberrantly high species diversity. Borneo Geographic Expedition (BGE) was conducted at Kadamaian from 14th to 25th of October 2019. In this expedition, macrofungi surveys were conducted at five different trails within the vicinity. Conspicuous sporocarps were collected through opportunistic sampling, curated, and identified based on morphology and molecular techniques. Barcoding of cryptic samples was carried out using Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) marker. A total of 126 specimens were collected and categorized into two phyla -- Basidiomycota and Ascomycota, comprising of 27 families and 47 genera. Sixty percent of the macrofungi recorded were saprophytic, 37% were ectomycorrhizal and 3% were parasitic. Twenty-seven specimens were categorized as edible mushrooms, ten specimens were bioluminescent fungi, ten specimens were poisonous mushrooms, and six specimens were medicinal mushrooms. Entoloma mastoideum, E. bloxamii, Cookeina sinensis, and Lignosus hainanensis serve as new records in Malaysia. This study will expand upon the existing checklist of macrofungi in Sabah and contribute to macrofungal knowledge in tropical Asia. Podostroma cornu-damae is considered one of the most poisonous mushrooms in the world. The first report of P. cornudamae in Indonesia was provided by Boedijn in 1934, located at Buitenzorg (Bogor), West Java. Our preliminary work based only on the macroscopic features in 2020 indicated the occurrence of Podostroma cf. cornu-damae in Central Kalimantan (Borneo). Hence, the current research aims to ensure the taxonomical identity of the macrofungi. Podostroma cornu-damae is confirmed based on morphological (macro-and microscopic) and molecular evidence. A brief description of the morphology of P. cornu-damae and the phylogenetic analyses inferred from the ITS sequence are provided. Mushrooms have long been considered as delicacies as well as used as important dietary supplements and food. However, there are major concerns with poisonous mushrooms as these pose threats to public health and safety. In this paper, we provide a review focusing on poisonous mushrooms, their toxins, symptoms and utilizations. In addition, this paper establishes a poisonous mushroom list which includes 643 species from two phyla, 16 orders, 51 families and 148 genera. The toxicity of all these species was verified and 332 species were ranked as P1 signifying that these species have toxic studies and or clinical poisoning case records and 311 species were P2 meaning they had previously been recorded as poisonous in other studies. Furthermore, we discuss advances in technology including how genomic studies could be used as a breakthrough tool in the field of toxic mushrooms. With this comprehensive review, we aim to promote public awareness of poisonous mushrooms, including how to avoid mushroom poisoning, and how to better utilize poisonous mushroom resources. Our study in the Sharr Mountains of Kosovo began in 2017 and included 20 surveyed sites. The predominant vegetation consists of beech and oak forests, but also a forest of Pinus heldreichii, the Balkan endemic pine species. A total of 244 macromycete species were recorded, of which 211 belong to the Basidiomycota phylum and 33 to the Ascomycota phylum. Newly recorded in Kosovo are 95 species. Several species, such as Zeus olympuis, Antrodia ramentacea, Heterosphaeria patella, Kneiffiella abdita and Resupinatus striatulus, are among the rarely recorded ones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vast quantities of side streams produced worldwide by the agricultural and food industry present an environmental challenge and an opportunity for waste upcycling in the frame of the circular bioeconomy. Fungi are capable of transforming lignocellulosic residues and wastes into a variety of added-value compounds with applications in functional food products, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, enzymes, proteins, and the emerging sector of nutraceuticals. The liquid state culture of fungi is an efficient and potentially scalable and reproducible biotechnological tool that allows the optimized production of fungal metabolites. Particularly, the utilization of agro-industrial by-products, residues, and wastes as a substrate for the liquid culture of macrofungi is suggested as an attainable solution in the management of these streams, contributing to climate change mitigation. This review presents recently published literature in the field of liquid state cultures of macrofungi using agro-industrial side streams, the different substrates, methods, and factors affecting their growth and metabolite production, as well as their applications, focusing on the variety of natural valuable compounds produced. The phenology of fungal fruiting has changed in the UK over the last 70 years, but whether the associated mycophagous insects are able to exploit 'out of season' fruit bodies is unknown. This study focused on whether fungal baits can be used as a proxy to examine changes in fungal fruiting on insect communities. Using Agaricus bisporus as a bait, mushrooms were placed into two separate woodlands monthly from November 2020 to July 2021. Megaselia rufipes (Phoridae) and Bradysia spp. (Sciaridae) were reared from both wild fungi and fungal baits at different times, making them appropriate species to consider for possible host tracking. Various factors affect an insect's ability to track a fungal host, these include host preference, season, period of fungal fruiting and age of mushroom. Increased fruiting of macrofungi in the future may benefit generalist mycophagous insects, by providing enhanced temporal and spatial resource opportunities. Using fungal baits as a proxy for the effects of climate change on fungal fruiting should be beneficial in uncovering the host preferences of mycophagous insects and may potentially indicate whether mycophagous insects can track fungal hosts across seasons. The tropics were long considered to have few ectomycorrhizal fungi, presumably due to a paucity of ectomycorrhizal host plants relative to higher-latitude ecosystems. However, an increase in research in tropical regions over the past 30 years has greatly expanded knowledge about the occurrence of tropical ectomycorrhizal fungi. To assess their broad biogeographic and diversity patterns, we conducted a comprehensive review and quantitative data analysis of 49 studies with 80 individual data sets along with additional data from GlobalFungi to elucidate tropical diversity patterns and biogeography of ectomycorrhizal fungi across the four main tropical regions: the Afrotropics, the Neotropics, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. Generalized linear models were used to explore biotic and abiotic influences on the relative abundance of the 10 most frequently occurring lineages. We also reviewed the available literature and synthesized current knowledge about responses of fungi to anthropogenic disturbances, and their conservation status and threats. We found that /russula-lactarius and /tomentella-thelephora were the most abundant lineages in the Afrotropics, the Neotropics, and Southeast Asia, whereas /cortinarius was the most abundant lineage in Oceania, and that /russula-lactarius, /inocybe, and /tomentella-thelephora were the most species-rich lineages across all of the tropical regions. Based on these analyses, we highlight knowledge gaps for each tropical region. Increased sampling of tropical regions, collaborative efforts, and use of molecular methodologies are needed for a more comprehensive view of the ecology and diversity of tropical ectomycorrhizal fungi.
