Abstract

The interaction between Titan and the corotating Saturnian plasma forms an induced magnetosphere with an elongated Alfven-wing-style magnetotail. On 26 December 2005, the Cassini spacecraft flew through Titan's magnetotail, providing the first distant tail observation, over 5 Titan radii downstream. We examine measurements observed by the magnetometer and Langmuir probe during this pass. We use the direction of the magnetic field along the trajectory to identify the source regions of plasma reaching the spacecraft. Cold plasma, with a density of about 10 cm(-3), is found magnetically connected to the ionosphere. Titan's ionosphere appears to be escaping along field lines down the tail, leading to particle loss from the atmosphere.

Abstract

This work reports on InP-based metamorphic quantum well structures with bismuth incorporation for mid-infrared applications. InAs1-xBix quantum well structures have been grown on InP-based metamorphic In0.83Al0.17As buffers and photoluminescence beyond 3.1 µm has been achieved at 300K, which is longer than the referenced InAs quantum well. X-ray diffraction, cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy measurements reveal clear interfaces of InAsBi quantum well with low bismuth, while more defects and bismuth inhomogeneity were observed as more bismuth was incorporated. Abstract

Excited states of I-123 were populated via the Cd-116(N-14, alpha 3n) reaction at 65 MeV. The resultant gamma-rays were detected using standard gamma-ray spectroscopic techniques with the NORDBALL detector array. Two previously known positive-parity Delta I = 2 sequences have been extended up to 31/2(+) and 41/2(+). In addition, a number of Delta I = 1 transitions linking the two Delta I = 2 sequences have been observed. It is suggested that both Delta I = 2 sequences are based on a common configuration. This Delta I = 1 band is proposed to be built predominantly on the 97/2[404]7/2(+) oblate configuration, based on the energylevel spectra, B(MI)/B(E2) ratios and the theoretical predictions from the particle-rotor model. The previously identified Delta I = 1 rotational band built on the prolate g(9/2)[404]9/2(+) orbital has also been extended to higher spins. Another previously identified but weakly populated Delta I = 1 band is confirmed and is proposed to be built on the d(5/2)[413]5/2' configuration with the ground state of I-123 as the bandhead., QC 20100525

Abstract

High-spin states of Cs-126 have been populated via the Cd-116(N-14, 4n) Cs-126 reaction. The experiment was performed at Niels Bohr Institute in Denmark in 1991. After careful data analysis, most of the previously-known bands have been pushed up to much higher spins and 3 new rotational sequences have been identified. Spin, parity and configuration assignments are tentatively proposed for all of the observed bands., QC 20100525

High spin states of the odd proton nucleus I-123 have been populated in the reaction Cd-116(N-14, 5n2p) at a beam energy of 65 MeV. Two previously known positive-parity DeltaI = 2 sequences have been extended up to 31/2(+) and 41/2(+). In addition, a number of DeltaI = 1 transitions linking the two DeltaI = 2 sequences have been observed. 144. Gene expression profiling of gastric cancer.

Abstract

OBJECTIVES: Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Gene expression profile facilitates the identification of molecular mechanism of gastric cancer. Previous studies mainly focused on differentially expressed genes (DEGs) without considering MicroRNAs (miRNAs) and transcription factors (TFs). Here we aim to elaborate the mechanism of gastric cancer on transcription level with microarray data from the gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We firstly identified DEGs between gastric cancer and normal tissues. Then the DEGs were mapped in KEGG pathway and gene ontology database to conduct functional categories enrichment analysis. MiRNAs and TFs enriched with target DEGs were also identified. RESULTS: A total of 977 DEGs were selected, including 492 down regulated and 485 overexpressed genes in gastric cancer tissue. Functional analysis revealed cell cycle, metabolism and ECM related biological processes as the significant items. Eight miRNAs and 20 TFs enriched with target DEGs were detected, including one novel miRNA (miR-557) and four novel TFs (SPI1, NFIC, SPIB and THAP1), which have not been reported to be related to gastric cancer before. All of them might contribute to the pathogenesis since they are all related to other cancers and their target genes have been reported to play important roles in gastric tumorigenesis. Abstract

We simulate and compare three phases of the Mars‐solar wind interaction with the 8 March interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) event using Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission observations in order to derive heavy ion precipitation and escape rates. The MAVEN observations provide the initial conditions for three steady state MHD model cases, which reproduce the observed features in the solar wind density, velocity, and magnetic field seen along the MAVEN orbit. Applying the MHD results to a kinetic test particle model, we simulate global precipitation and escape maps of O+during the (1) pre‐ICME phase, (2) sheath phase, and (3) ejecta phase. We find that the Case 1 had the lowest precipitation and escape rates of 9.5 × 1025and 4.1 × 1025s−1, Case 2 had the highest rates of 9.5 × 1025and 4.1 × 1025s−1, and Case 3 had rates of 3.2 × 1025and 1.3 × 1025s−1, respectively. Additionally, Case 2 produced a high‐energy escaping plume >10 keV, which mirrored corresponding STATIC observations.
