The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Subsequent stages will focus on measurements of rare Higgs processes, as well as searches for new physics processes and precision measurements of new states, e.g. states previously discovered at LHC or at CLIC itself. In the 2012 CLIC Conceptual Design Report, a fully optimised 3 TeV collider was presented, while the proposed lower energy stages were not studied to the same level of detail. This report presents an updated baseline staging scenario for CLIC. The scenario is the result of a comprehensive study addressing the performance, cost and power of the CLIC accelerator complex as a function of centre-of-mass energy and it targets optimal physics output based on the current physics landscape. The optimised staging scenario foresees three main centre-of-mass energy stages at 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV for a full CLIC programme spanning 22 years. For the first stage, an alternative to the CLIC drive beam scheme is presented in which the main linac power is produced using X-band klystrons. Between 1820 and 1929, in Iggio and in Tiola, rural parishes not too distant from the respective chief towns, a large number of marriages occurred between natives and former foundlings. The study of the distribution of surnames within the provinces of Emilia-Romagna (Italy) leads one to believe that the phenomenon was quite widespread in this area. This observation does not wish to call into question what is known about the extinction of families from the towns, their continual replacement by people who immigrated from the surrounding countryside and the resulting gene flow; however, it supplies evidence of how, in many cases, this was accompanied by a gene flow, limited but not negligible, in the opposite direction. The gene flow from immigration occurring over the last hundred years would seem to be on a completely different scale, with a notable impact on the genetic structure of the populations studied.

emerging contaminants ,Indirect potable reuse ,PFAS - Abstract
Emerging water pollutants (e.g., antibiotics, household chemicals) and pathogens (e.g. antibiotic-resistant bacteria, viruses) are only partially removed by conventional wastewater treatment plants. Thus, both groups of contaminants are continuously discharged into European rivers used as drinking water supplies. This de facto potable water reuse is frequently happening worldwide. There are concerns that emerging water pollutants and pathogens adversely affect aquatic life as well as human health, in particular in European areas with water scarcity problems. Under the umbrella of the European research initiative "Water JPI (Joint Programming Initiative ,,Water Challenges for a Changing World")" the project FRAME is funded for 3-years (2015-18). Leading European researches from four countries (Germany, Italy, France and Norway) are closely working together to develop new strategies to minimize the impacts of a broad range of chemical and biological contaminants when reusing treated municipal wastewater via subsurface treatment to augment drinking water resources. The project's main aim is to provide sufficient quantities of safe drinking water, while preserving ecosystems and human health. FRAME is addressing important aspects in the context of producing high quality water from recycled water including: a) removal efficiencies of emerging contaminants by various treatment processes, b) detection and removal of transformation products formed by microbial and chemical reactions of the emerging chemicals, c) inactivation of viruses and other pathogens, d) removal efficiencies of antibiotic resistant bacteria, e) use of bioassays and biomarkers to detect effects caused by specific pollutants and mixtures of pollutants, f) quantifying the reduction of environmental and human health risks, g) costs, non-monetary benefits and potential drawbacks of various treatment strategies. FRAME is testing several treatment combinations including ozonation and advanced oxidation processes coupled with a new process of sequential biologically active filtration, which are presented in the present communication. Modelling transport and fate of emerging contaminants and their transformation products through various treatment combinations will guide in assessing the efficiency of various mitigation strategies. The FRAME concept will influence European and national regulation for Indirect Potable Reuse and will be primarily validated at water reclamation facilities in Braunschweig, Germany.

To minimise the beam losses at the moment of an LHC beam dump the 3 μs long abort gap should contain as few particles as possible. Its population can be minimised by abort gap cleaning using the LHC transverse damper system. The LHC Run 1 experience is briefly recalled; changes foreseen for the LHC Run 2 are presented. They include improvements in the observation of the abort gap population and the mechanism to decide if cleaning is required, changes to the hardware of the transverse dampers to reduce the detrimental effect on the luminosity lifetime and proposed changes to the applied cleaning algorithms.

- Abstract

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is an e+/e- collider based on the two-beam acceleration principle, proposed to support precision high-energy physics experiments in the energy range 0.5-3 TeV [1]. To achieve a high luminosity of up to 6x1034cm-2s-1, the transport and preservation of a low emittance beam is mandatory. A large number and great variety of beam diagnostics instruments is foreseen to verify and guarantee the required beam quality. We discuss the status of the beam diagnostics developments and experimental results accomplished at the CLIC Test Facility (CTF) and at the Cornell University CesrTA ring accelerator.

Accelerators and Storage Rings - Abstract
The present note describes how data measured with the LHC Longitudinal Density Monitor (LDM) can contribute to the 2012-2013 LHC luminosity calibration experiments. More specifically, LDM data can provide an estimation of the ghost fraction fghost and satellite fraction fsat needed for the normalisation of bunch populations. After a concise description of the LDM data treatment, the key quantities of interest are derived and commented. Finally, a description of the LDM analysis products is given.

Physics::Accelerator Physics ,Accelerators and Storage Rings - Abstract
A new electro-optic bunch profile monitor has recently been installed in CLIC Test Facility 3 at CERN. The monitor is based on an electro-optic spectral decoding scheme which reconstructs the longitudinal profile of the electron bunch by measuring its Coulomb field. The system uses a 780 nm fibre laser system, transported over a 20m long distance to the interaction chamber, where a ZnTe crystal is positioned close to the beam. The assembly also contains a traditional OTR screen, which is coupled to a second optical line and used to adjust the temporal overlap between the laser and the electron pulse. This paper presents the detection system in detail, as well as reporting on the first measurements performed with beam.

Back to the roots of Western European Culture. Based on a contextual and multilinear perspective, the investigation of the History of Pompey's urban scenery is conducted through the analysis of buildings devoted to spectacles: from the Great Theatre, steeped in Hellenistic Culture, to the theatrum tectum, likely to be a place of encounter for Silla's settlers and a 'sign' of distinction. From the amphitheatre, example of a sumptuos private evergetism in the colonial era, to the magnificent renovation of the Great Theatre by the Holconii under Augustus, imbued with the imperial aura conveyed by the silent eloquence of the images., Annali Online Lettere - Ferrara, III 2 (2008)

Using 467 $fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected with the BaBar detector, we measure $\frac{{\cal{B}}(\tau^- \to \mu^- \bar{\nu}_\mu \nu_\tau)}{{\cal{B}}(\tau^- \to e^- \bar{\nu}_e \nu_\tau)} = (0.9796 \pm 0.0016 \pm 0.0036)$, $\frac{{\cal{B}}(\tau^- \to \pi^- \nu_\tau)}{{\cal{B}}(\tau^- \to e^- \bar{\nu}_e \nu_\tau)} = (0.5945 \pm 0.0014 \pm 0.0061)$, and $\frac{{\cal{B}}(\tau^- \to \K^- \nu_\tau)}{{\cal{B}}(\tau^- \to e^- \bar{\nu}_e \nu_\tau)} = (0.03882 \pm 0.00032 \pm 0.00057)$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. From these precision $\tau$ measurements, we test the Standard Model assumption of $\mu$-$e$ and $\tau$-$\mu$ charge current lepton universality and provide determinations of $|V_{us}|$ experimentally independent of the decay of a kaon and which we compare with the value predicted from the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix., Comment: 7 pages, 1 encapsulated postscript figures, Phys. The Protein Crystallization Diagnostics Facility (PCDF) is an instrument developed by Astrium under an ESA contract to observe and study with advanced diagnostics nucleation and crystallisation processes of molecules from solutions in long duration microgravity on board the International Space Station. The first experiment PROTEIN flown on PCDF aimed at unraveling physical processes and relating the forma-tion of defects in crystals to their growth conditions. This PCDF experiment was flown on the ISS integrated in the European Drawer Rack and was followed and teleoperated by the supporting science teams from User Sup-port Operation Centers on ground. Future experiments will utilize the existing infrastructure to support advanced light scattering capabilities to en-able investigations of various solutions including proteins, zeolites and colloids. The paper recalls the PCDF design. The aim of the PROTEIN experiment is summarized and first results are presented. The future evolution of PCDF is addressed at the end.
