105. A Systematic Review of Wearable Sensor-Based Technologies for Fall Risk Assessment in Older Adults

Abstract

Falls have been recognized as the major cause of accidental death and injury in people aged 65 and above. The timely prediction of fall risks can help identify older adults prone to falls and implement preventive interventions. Recent advancements in wearable sensor-based technologies and big data analysis have spurred the development of accurate, affordable, and easy-to-use approaches to fall risk assessment. The objective of this study was to systematically assess the current state of wearable sensor-based technologies for fall risk assessment among community-dwelling older adults. Twenty-five of 614 identified research articles were included in this review. A comprehensive comparison was conducted to evaluate these approaches from several perspectives. In general, these approaches provide an accurate and effective surrogate for fall risk assessment. The accuracy of fall risk prediction can be influenced by various factors such as sensor location, sensor type, features utilized, and data processing and modeling techniques. Features constructed from the raw signals are essential for predictive model development. However, more investigations are needed to identify distinct, clinically interpretable features and develop a general framework for fall risk assessment based on the integration of sensor technologies and data modeling.

121. De-Noising of Photoacoustic Microscopy Images by Attentive Generative Adversarial Network

Abstract

As a hybrid imaging technology, photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) imaging suffers from noise due to the maximum permissible exposure of laser intensity, attenuation of ultrasound in the tissue, and the inherent noise of the transducer. De-noising is an image processing method to reduce noise, and PAM image quality can be recovered. However, previous de-noising techniques usually heavily rely on manually selected parameters, resulting in unsatisfactory and slow de-noising performance for different noisy images, which greatly hinders practical and clinical applications. In this work, we propose a deep learning-based method to remove noise from PAM images without manual selection of settings for different noisy images. An attention enhanced generative adversarial network is used to extract image features and adaptively remove various levels of Gaussian, Poisson, and Rayleigh noise. The proposed method is demonstrated on both synthetic and real datasets, including phantom (leaf veins) and in vivo (mouse ear blood vessels and zebrafish pigment) experiments. In the in vivo experiments using synthetic datasets, our method achieves the improvement of 6.53 dB and 0.26 in peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity metrics, respectively. The results show that compared with previous PAM de-noising methods, our method exhibits good performance in recovering images qualitatively and quantitatively. In addition, the de-noising processing speed of 0.016 s is achieved for an image with ${256}\times {256}$ pixels, which has the potential for real-time applications. Our approach is effective and practical for the de-noising of PAM images.

Abstract

NASICON-type structured compound Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 (LATP) was regarded as a potential solid electrolyte material due to its high ionic conductivity. Herein, the sintering properties, microstructure and ionic conductivity behavior of Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3/50Li2O–50P2O5(LATP/LP) glass ceramics, prepared through a solid phase method, were investigated for lithium battery applications. The influences of sintering temperatures and LP contents on the microstructure, phase composition and electrical properties of glass ceramics were systematically studied using DSC, TG, XRD, SEM, Raman spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy. The results show that main crystal phase LiTi2(PO4)3 exists in all glass ceramic samples, and no derivative phase is observed. The addition of LP frits improves the sintering of ceramics and increases the density, but does not change the crystal structure. Especially, the 3 wt% LP added glass ceramic sintered at 850 °C exhibits the highest ionic conductivity of 8.2 × 10–4 S/cm and a low activation energy of 0.263 eV. Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective effects and underlying mechanism of Qingdu decoction (QDD) on experimental rats with severe liver injury induced by thioacetamide (TAA). Methods A total of 40 Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal group ( n = 10) and experimental group ( n = 30). Rats were administrated the same content of saline in normal group. The rats in the experimental group were pretreated with TAA at dose of 12 mg/kg lasting 8 weeks, and from 9th week to 12th week, with TAA at concentration of 36 mg/kg. During the 9th week to 12th week period, the rats were randomly divided into three subgroups ( n = 10 each) simultaneously based on the treatment categories: model group, lactulose (LA, 3.5 mL/kg) group and QDD (5.95 g/kg) group, orally once per day respectively. At the 12th week, the content of serum alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), total bilirubin (TBIL), endotoxin (ET) and tumor necrosis factor Δ (TNF-Δ) was detected by automatic biochemical analyzer. The plasma prothrombin time (PT), prothrombin time-international normalized ratio (PTR) and prothrombin time activity (PTA) were measured by automatic coagulation analyzer. The level of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-binding protein (LBP), cluster differentiation 14 (CD14) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expressions was measured by both western blot (WB) and real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR). Results Compared with the model group, hepatic morphology in the QDD group was improved under light microscope and transmission electron microscope; at the same time, the contents of serum ALT, AST, TBIL, ET and TNF-Δ, and level of LBP, CD14 and TLR4 expressions in liver tissues were significantly decreased compared with the model group ( P P Conclusion QDD has the functional effect on improving the injured liver through inhibiting the LPS/TLR4 signaling pathway thus decreasing the level of the inflammatory medicators.
