Objectives: In adults, immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), characterized by platelet counts <100 × 109/l, is typically chronic, with remission reported infrequently ≥3 years post-diagnosis. The thrombopoietin mimetic romiplostim increases platelet counts and reduces use of concomitant ITP medications in chronic ITP. While often perceived as a long-term treatment, dose-adjustment rules allow romiplostim to be discontinued when hemostatic platelet counts are reached, as reported in Amgen trials. Methods: Eight romiplostim trials were examined for remission, defined as ≥26 consecutive weeks of platelets ≥50 × 109/l without treatment. Results: Remission was identified in 27 patients; median (quartile 1 [Q1], quartile 3 [Q3]) ITP duration of 2.1 (0.5, 4.2) years, 17/27 (63%) having ITP for >1 year, mean baseline platelets 20.9 × 109/l, median preremission maximum dose 3.0 µg/kg, 12/27 (44%) were splenectomized at baseline, and there were 40–276 cumulative weeks of romiplostim with median time to remission 7.1 months. Preferential oxidation (PROX) of CO in H2-rich stream is critical to the production of clean H2 for H2-based fuel cells. A low-temperature fuel-cell start up is desirable for transportation applications. However, few catalysts are able to provide the required sustained activity at near-room-temperature conditions. The development of highly active and selective PROX catalysts is highly desirable but has been proven to be extremely challenging. Pt nanoparticles with a size of (1.2±0.1) nm were synthesized in situ on 32 nm magnetite nanoparticles, which were previously deposited on alumina supports. The resulting catalyst was found to be highly active towards the preferential oxidation of CO in a H2-rich reformate stream and gave 100 % CO conversion at 25 °C with a weight hourly space velocity of 0.5 mL min−1 mg−1 and an oxygen excess factor (λ) of 2. The interaction between the fungal pathogenParacoccidioides brasiliensisand host cells is usually mediated by specific binding events between adhesins on the fungal surface and receptors on the host extracellular matrix or cell surface. One molecule implicated in theP. brasiliensis-host interaction is the 14-3-3 protein. The 14-3-3 protein belongs to a family of conserved regulatory molecules that are expressed in all eukaryotic cells and are involved in diverse cellular functions. Here, we investigated the relevance of the 14-3-3 protein to the virulence ofP. brasiliensis. Using antisense RNA technology andAgrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation, we generated a 14-3-3-silenced strain (expression reduced by ˜55%). This strain allowed us to investigate the interaction between 14-3-3 and the host and to correlate the functions ofP. brasiliensis14-3-3 with cellular features, such as morphological characteristics and virulence, that are important for pathogenesis. Healthcare professionals must be cognizant of common and life-threatening diseases that are encountered on a daily basis. Although seizures are common, they sometimes pose life-threatening challenges. A seizure is not a specific disease process in itself, but it can be a manifestation of many different disorders, either of a medical or surgical nature. Distinguishing between loss of consciousness caused by an epileptic seizure and one caused by a cardiac event can be difficult. Similar characteristics of the symptoms may cause an incorrect assessment, leading to a wrong diagnosis and inappropriate treatment. Because seizures have a broad differential diagnosis, the appropriate approach to initial evaluation, clinical diagnosis, and therapy is important. This article provides an overview of seizures, including etiology pathophysiology classification and clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, differential diagnosis, and treatment as groundwork for a case study of a patient with a seizure event. The case scenario offers suggestions in performing a careful and accurate assessment. In addition, different causes of seizures are discussed, and recommendations are made to accurately recognize a seizure attack when it occurs and treat it before it leads to a cardiac event. We present the 16th reported case of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) with involve-ment in the bladder. Our patient was a 22 year-old man with T-cell ALL with a mediastinal mass. He received hyperfractionated cyclophos-phamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, dexametha-sone (HyperCVAD) with mediastinal radiation. Prior to starting maintenance, he relapsed in the bladder and marrow. He received a nelara-bine-based induction regimen and achieved remission. This was followed by an unrelated 11/12 HLA-matched myeloablative allogeneic stem cell transplant. The CONSTANS ( CO ) gene in Arabidopsis thaliana has a central role in photoperiodic regulation of flowering. However, the roles of CO genes in mediating flowering in soybeans ( Glycine max ) remain uncertain. We previously inferred regulatory interactions of a soybean CO homolog, GmCOL1b , using in-house RNA-seq data and the network inference algorithm package CausNet. Here, we identify potential GmCOL1b downstream genes and experimentally verify them by expressing GmCOL1b in soybean protoplast cells. With progressing climate fluctuations, an understanding of the molecular mechanisms of crop plants that regulate their flowering responses to environments is crucial. To achieve this goal, we aimed at clarifying the gene regulatory networks among the circadian clock and flowering genes in soybean ( Glycine max ). Based on our network inference approach , we hypothesize that GmELF3-1 , one of the Evening Complex (EC) gene homologs in soybean's circadian clock, may have an integrative role in transcriptional regulation of the circadian clock and flowering gene network. In this study, we verify GmELF3-1 ' s regulatory roles in its potential downstream genes by modulating the activity of GmELF3-1 using overexpression and CRISPR-Cas9 in soybean protoplasts.
