Invisible photonic prints are patterned photonic materials that can reveal hidden patterns under certain stimuli, which are widely used in anti-counterfeiting, identification marking, encoding, and dynamic displays. Traditionally, such photonic prints can be obtained through patterning photonic hydrogels with different responsive polymers. Yet, the visibility of the revealed prints is still not satisfactory due to the limited contrast between the responsive and non-responsive regions. In this study, we report revealable photonic prints with high visibility by patterning photonic hydrogels with two oppositely pH-responsive polymers comprising weak acidic and weak basic groups. The two distinct pH-responsive polymers can be protonated and deprotonated in the same environment, triggering the variation of colors from the initial state to the opposite directions in the different regions of the photonic prints. Therefore, the contrast of the photonic patterns is greatly improved, increasing the naked-eye detection range of colorimetric sensing. This study provides a new opportunity for designing patterned photonic materials for use in improved visual sensors.

Institutional trust plays a crucial role when a nation is facing mega crises (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) and has implications for employee work experiences and well-being. To date, researchers largely consider how institutional trust or trust in government may predict variables of interest in isolation. However, this variable-centered perspective ignores the possibility that there are subpopulations of employees who may differ in their trust in different institutions (i.e., the state government, the federal government). To address this, we examined institutional trust with two foci (i.e., trust in state government and trust in federal government) from a person-centered perspective. Using latent profile analysis and data from 492 U.S.-based employees, we identified five trust profiles: high trustors, federal trustors, state trustors, the ambivalent, and distrusters, and found that these profiles differentially predicted attitudes towards and behavioral compliance with CDC recommended COVID-19 prevention practices, job insecurity, affective commitment, helping behavior, and psychological well-being.

Three-dimensional chiral materials with intrinsic chirality play a crucial role in achieving a strong chiral response and flexible light manipulation. Reconfigurable chirality through the 3D morphological transformation of chiral materials is significant for greater freedom in tailoring light but remains a challenge. Inspired by the unique 3D morphological memory capability of shape memory alloys (SMAs), we demonstrate and discuss a chiral resonator in the microwave regime that can realize reconfigurable chirality through 3D morphological transformation. The introduction of heating film realizes voltage control of SMA’s morphology for utilizing the temperature sensitivity of SMA better, enabling arbitrary control of circular dichroism (CD) flip and CD intensity. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the surface current distribution of chiral enantiomers reveals that the chirality of meta-atoms originates from the surge of electric dipole p x and electric quadrupole Q. It is worth mentioning that the proposed strategy to achieve reconfigurable chirality using 3D morphological transformations can be directly extended to other higher frequencies, such as visible, infrared, and terahertz bands. Significantly, our paradigm to study the relationship between complex 3D morphology and chirality holds potential for application in biosensing, spin detection, and spin-selective devices.

Background Gastric cancer, which is the fifth most common malignancy and the third most common cause of cancer-related death, is particularly predominant in East Asian countries, such as China, Japan and Korea. It is a serious global health issue that causes a heavy financial burden for the government and family. To our knowledge, there are few reports of multicentre randomized controlled trials on the utilization of CT angiography (CTA) for patients who are histologically diagnosed with gastric cancer before surgery. Therefore, we planned this RCT to verify whether the utilization of CTA can change the short- and long-term clinical outcomes. Method The GISSG 20–01 study is a multicentre, prospective, open-label clinical study that emphasises the application of CTA for patients who will undergo laparoscopic gastrectomy to prove its clinical findings. A total of 382 patients who meet the inclusion criteria will be recruited for the study and randomly divided into two groups in a 1:1 ratio: the CTA group (n = 191) and the non-CTA group (n = 191). Both groups will undergo upper abdomen enhanced CT, and the CTA group will also receive CT angiography. The primary endpoint of this trial is the volume of blood loss. The second primary endpoints are the number of retrieved lymph nodes, postoperative recovery course, hospitalization costs, length of hospitalization days, postoperative complications, 3-year OS and 3-year DFS. Discussion It is anticipated that the results of this trial will provide high-level evidence and have clinical value for the application of CTA in laparoscopic gastrectomy. Background: Extracorporeal shockwave is recommended as the first choice for the treatment of fracture nonunion, However, some patients with fracture nonunion have poor response to extracorporeal shockwave therapy. The present study aimed to investigate related factors which may affect the clinical efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave on fracture nonunion. Methods: Ultrasound examination was applied to observe nonunion gap, local blood supply, hardness of callus and hematoma formation before and after extracorporeal shockwave therapy. The patient's condition was followed up for 12 months after extracorporeal shockwave therapy. Four correlations and regression analysis methods were applied to analyze the factors which were correlated the clinical efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave. Receiver-operating characteristic analysis revealed that the cut-off of the fracture nonunion gap was 4.200 mm and the cut-off of the hardness of callus/impulse energy was 2.555. Single factor linear correlation analysis, multi-factor linear regression analysis, single-factor logistic regression analysis were applied. Results: The four ultrasound signs were significantly correlated with extracorporeal shockwave therapy: nonunion gap (r = -0.723; OR = 3.074), local blood supply (r = 0.611; OR = 0.191), hardness of callus/impulse energy (r = -0.510; OR = 19.942), and hematoma formation (r = 0.722; OR = 0.015). Conclusions: Nonunion gap larger than 4.200 mm and hardness of callus/impulse energy larger than 2.555 are risk factors of extracorporeal shockwave therapy outcome, and good local blood supply and effective hematoma formation induced by extracorporeal shockwave therapy are protective factors. By analyzing the related factors of extracorporeal shockwave therapy on fracture nonunion, clinicians may screen out the patients with fracture nonunion who are not suitable for extracorporeal shockwave therapy, and reduce the risk of fracture nonunion.

Low Intensity Pulse Ultrasound (LIPUS) is widely used to treat various diseases because of its non-invasiveness and non-ionizing radiation. However, few studies have analyzed the specific mechanism and optimal parameters of LIPUS in treating the Achilles tendon injury. This paper investigated the LIPUS topography and the thermal properties with different parameters through simulation for ultrasound treatment of the Achilles tendon. First, a four-layer model of bone tissue, tendon, muscle, and soft tissue was established. Then, the finite element method was used to simulate the sound intensity distribution and thermal effects of ultrasound. Finally, the influence of ultrasonic parameters such as frequency, initial intensities, and transducer diameters was discussed. Experimental simulation results show that the frequency of 3 MHz may be a recommended choice to treat Achilles tendon disease. This paper theoretically explores the underlying physical mechanism of ultrasound treatment of Achilles tendinopathy, which has guiding significance for in vivo and in vitro experiments.

Key Points Question Are there any differences in prognoses or recurrence patterns associated with gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma, mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma, or adenocarcinoma? Findings This cohort study included 3689 patients with resectable gastric adenocarcinoma, gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma, or gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma. Propensity score–matched analysis was used to match pathological stage among the different pathological types, and disease-free survival (DFS), postrecurrence survival (PRS), and patterns of recurrence were examined. Data analysis was conducted from July 15, 2020, to October 21, 2020. Exposures Curative resection for gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma, gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma, and gastric adenocarcinoma. Main Outcomes and Measures The main outcomes were DFS and patterns of recurrence. Results A total of 3689 patients were analyzed (median [interquartile range] age, 62 [55-69] years; 2748 [74.5%] men), including 503 patients (13.6%) with gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma, 401 patients (10.9%) with gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma, and 2785 patients (75.5%) with gastric adenocarcinoma. Ultrasound is a widely used technology for diagnosing developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) because it does not use radiation. Due to its low cost and convenience, 2-D ultrasound is still the most common examination in DDH diagnosis. In clinical usage, the complexity of both ultrasound image standardization and measurement leads to a high error rate for sonographers. The automatic segmentation results of key structures in the hip joint can be used to develop a standard plane detection method that helps sonographers decrease the error rate. However, current automatic segmentation methods still face challenges in robustness and accuracy. Thus, we propose a neonatal hip bone segmentation network (NHBS-Net) for the first time for the segmentation of seven key structures. We design three improvements, an enhanced dual attention module, a two-class feature fusion module, and a coordinate convolution output head, to help segment different structures. Compared with current state-of-the-art networks, NHBS-Net gains outstanding performance accuracy and generalizability, as shown in the experiments. Additionally, image standardization is a common need in ultrasonography. The ability of segmentation-based standard plane detection is tested on a 50-image standard dataset. The experiments show that our method can help healthcare workers decrease their error rate from 6%-10% to 2%. In addition, the segmentation performance in another ultrasound dataset (fetal heart) demonstrates the ability of our network.

Purpose Despite a large body of literature on the negative consequences of job insecurity, one outcome – job creativity – has received relatively scant attention. While initial studies established a relationship between job insecurity and creativity, the explanatory mechanisms for this relationship have yet to be fully explored. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach Using threat-rigidity theory and broaden-and-build theory as a conceptual foundation, the authors implemented a two-country temporally lagged research design (the USA (n = 390); China (n = 346)) to test two potential mediating mechanisms – cognitive failures and positive job-related affect – as explanatory variables between quantitative and qualitative forms of job insecurity and self- and other-rated measures of creative performance. Findings Results from both countries suggest that job-related affective well-being and employee cognitive failures both explained the relationship between job insecurity and creative performance. However, affective well-being was a better explanatory variable for the relation between job insecurity and self-rated creative performance, whereas cognitive failures better accounted for the relationship between job insecurity and performance on an idea generation task. Research limitations/implications The authors discuss the implications of these findings from measurement, theoretical and practical perspectives. Originality/value The authors extend prior research on the relationship between job insecurity and creativity by: considering both quantitative and qualitative job insecurity, examining their relationships with both self- and other-rated assessments of creative job performance, and testing cognitive and affective mediating mechanisms explaining these relationships.

Purpose Multimodality treatment of soft tissue sarcoma(STS) by expert teams reportedly affords a tremendous improvement in outcome of patients. Despite advances, treatment of local unresectable recurrence remains difficult and is not standardized. We performed this retrospective study in order to assess the efficacy and safety of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation in treating STS patients with local unresectable recurrence. Methods Thirty-six STS patients with local unresectable recurrence from January 2015 to December 2016 were recruited according to the inclusion criteria. Pain rating, response rate, disease control rate, local disease progression-free survival(LPFS), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival(OS) were used to evaluate efficacy of HIFU treatment. Results HIFU resulted in a significant relief in pain rating, without severe side effects. According to magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), three months after HIFU treatment, response rate was 47.3% and the local disease control rate was 80.6%. Twelve months post HIFU treatment, response rate was 38.9% and the local disease control rate was 55.6%. The median LPFS, PFS and OS time for 36 patients was 13 months, 10 months and 20 months respectively. Conclusion HIFU is a tolerated treatment modality with promising activity and safety in STS patients with local unresectable recurrence.

This study aimed to understand the association between leader–member exchange (LMX) and employee job insecurity. We proposed that LMX quality may foster a sense of organizational insider status, which could reduce the perception of job insecurity. Moreover, the extent to which employees identify their supervisor with the organization (i.e. the extent of supervisor organizational embodiment, SOE) and the variation in LMX quality within the work group (i.e. LMX differentiation) were theorized to be moderators of the effect of LMX quality on perceived organizational insider status. Time-lagged data were collected from a sample of 186 Chinese employees working in 31 work groups. The results indicated that perceived organizational insider status mediated the relationship between LMX quality and job insecurity and that SOE moderated the effect of LMX quality on perceived organizational insider status such that the effect was stronger when SOE was high (vs. low). However, we did not find support for the moderating effect of LMX differentiation. This study provides new insights into the underlying mechanism and boundary conditions of the association between LMX quality and job insecurity, a typical stressor for many present-day workers.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test competing models of the relationship between job insecurity and two forms of impression management (self- and supervisor-focused) on job performance. Specifically, does job insecurity lead to greater subsequent impression management; or, does preventative use of impression management subsequently lead to reductions in job insecurity? Additionally, how do these both relate to in-role performance? Design/methodology/approach Using two-wave survey data collected from 184 working adults in the USA and the two-step approach recommended by Cole and Maxwell (2003) and Taris and Kompier (2006), the authors tested cross-lagged relationship between job insecurity and both forms of impression management by comparing four different models: a stability model, a normal causation model (with cross-lagged paths from T1 job insecurity to T2 impression management), a reversed causation model (with cross-lagged paths from T1 impression management to T2 job insecurity) and a reciprocal causation model (with all cross-lagged paths described in the normal and reversed causation model). Findings Results were supportive of the reversed causation model which indicated that greater use of supervisor-focused impression management at Time 1 predicted lower levels of job insecurity at Time 2 (after controlling for prior levels of job insecurity); moreover, job insecurity at Time 1 was then significantly associated with more positive in-role behaviors at Time 2. Moreover, the test of the indirect effect between T1 impression management and T2 performance was significant. Originality/value These results suggest that impression management clearly plays an important role in understanding the relationship between job insecurity and job performance. However, employees appear to utilize impression management as a means of pre-emptively enhancing their job security, rather than as a tool to reactively cope with perceived job insecurity.

Objective To examine the association of kidney stones with new-onset hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Participants and methods This prospective cohort study included participants in the Qingdao Port Cardiovascular Health Study who were aged ≥18 years and had abdominal ultrasonography results in 2013 that were negative for kidney stones. Multivariable Cox regression models with time-dependent covariates were used to estimate the effects of new-onset hypertension, diabetes and obesity on the incidence of kidney stones. Results There were 9667 participants without kidney stones in 2013 (mean age 46.2 years; 75.6% men). During a mean (range) follow-up of 33.5 (6-42) months, 676 (7.0%) incident cases of kidney stones were identified. Kidney stones were more frequent among those who had new-onset of a metabolic factor vs those who did not (hypertension: 7.7 vs 6.0%; diabetes: 8.4 vs 6.6%; obesity: 7.4 vs 6.8%). Adjusted Cox models identified that increased risk of kidney stones was associated with new-onset hypertension (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 1.69, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.25-2.27), new-onset diabetes (HR 1.78, 95% CI 1.07-2.96), and new-onset obesity (HR 1.78, 95% CI 1.15-2.74). Conclusions New-onset of hypertension, diabetes and obesity were all strongly associated with an increased risk of kidney stones in this prospective cohort study. Results suggest that a substantial proportion of kidney stones are potentially preventable by appropriate control of these metabolic risk factors.

Using social exchange theory as the foundation, this research examines the consequences of qualitative job insecurity on voice behavior, considering the indirect effect of affective organizational commitment. The hypotheses raised are tested using data drawn from a sample of 137 employees of a retailer in Chile at three time points. Workers with high qualitative job insecurity reported lower affective organizational commitment, which in turn decreased their voice behavior. Organizational leaders could encourage employee voice behaviors by reducing their perceptions of qualitative job insecurity and increasing their affective organizational commitment.

11513 Background: GIST is a rare mesenchymal tumor whose management has been transformed by approvals of TKIs. However, treatment resistance is a formidable challenge in managing locally advanced or metastatic GIST. Pts with SDH-deficient GIST are not sensitive to imatinib and other TKIs, are frequently multifocal, and typically have a multinodular architecture. Olverembatinib is a novel, potent, orally active third-generation TKI with promising activity against GIST in multiple preclinical GIST models. Methods: The aim of this phase Ib/II study was to evaluate the safety/tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK), and efficacy (assessed per RECIST v1.1) of olverembatinib (NCT03594422) in pts with metastatic GIST whose disease was resistant or failed to respond to imatinib or other TKIs. Olverembatinib was administered orally once every other day (QOD) in 28-day repeated cycles. After 3 pts were treated at 20 mg, other pts were randomly allocated in a 1:1:1 ratio to 30, 40, and 50 mg regimens. Results: On the cutoff date of January 30, 2022, 39 pts (median age 52 [range 19-72] years) had received at least 1 dose of olverembatinib. The average (range) treatment period was 5.0 (0.2-35) months. PK analyses indicated an approximately dose-proportional increase in systemic exposure over the dose range of 20 to 50 mg. Thirty-one pts had KIT or PDGFRA mutations, 13 had stable disease for at least 2 cycles as the best response, 8 withdrew early, and 10 had progressive disease before Cycle 3. Very interestingly, 6 of 8 pts with KIT wild-type GIST were confirmed as SDH deficient: 2 pts had partial responses (PRs), 1 patient’s tumor had shrunk by 35.9% and lasted for 16 cycles, and another patient’s tumor had shrunk by 54.2% in the first evaluation. Four pts had stable disease as best response for 2, 6, 14, and 36 cycles. A total of 36 (92.3%) pts experienced treatment-emergent adverse events, most of which were mild or moderate. Ten (25.6%) pts experienced serious adverse events, of which intestinal obstruction attributed to GIST was the most reported. Common treatment-related adverse events (≥ 20%) included increased leukocyte (59.0%) and neutrophil (46.2%) counts, anemia (20.5%), constipation or asthenia (35.9% each), hyperuricemia (25.6%), hypoalbuminemia (23.1%), and elevated AST or ALT (20.5% each). Conclusions: Olverembatinib was well tolerated at doses of up to 50 mg QOD and showed antitumor activity in pts with TKI-resistant SDH-deficient GIST, with 2 PRs in 6 evaluable pts with SDH-deficient GIST and 1 with stable disease for 36 cycles. The circular dichroism resonator (CDR) can produce spin selective absorption for left-handed circularly polarized (LCP) and right-handed circularly polarized (RCP) waves. However, in the microwave band, the previously proposed CDRs only absorb designated CP waves and lack versatility in practical applications. Here, we propose a switchable CDR based on a pair of PIN diodes. It switches between the left-hand and right-hand CDR modes through the alternate ON-OFF of two PIN diodes. The left-hand CDR absorbs LCP waves and converts RCP waves into LCP waves. The opposite is true for the right-hand CDR. The thickness of the switchable CDR is one-tenth of the working wavelength, which is suitable for integrated manufacturing.

Objectives: To develop a tool which can evaluate the severity of the joint injury in individuals with gout and asymptomatic hyperuricaemia. Methods: This retrospective study included 616 male patients: 245 with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia and 371 with intercritical gout. All patients underwent ultrasonography of the knee, ankle and first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints. Ultrasound features that were significantly different between groups were entered into a binary logistic regression analysis to identify discriminative factors. The ultrasound signs were scored based on their odds ratios, which were then used to evaluate the severity of gout and asymptomatic hyperuricaemia. The performance of the ultrasound score was validated in an additional population including 163 patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia and 196 patients with gout. Results: Ultrasound signs were scored as follows: knee joint: synovial effusion, 2 points, tophus, 5 points; ankle joint: synovial effusion, 2 points, synovial hypertrophy, 5 points, tophus, 3 points, bone erosion, 7 points; and first MTP joint: double contour sign, 2 points, synovial hypertrophy, 3 points, tophus, 9 points, bone erosion, 4 points. The maximum possible total score was 42. The optimal cut-off score for gout was 6.5. The sensitivity, specificity and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were 86.9%, 75.2% and 0.878, respectively. The patients were stratified according to their ultrasound score (range 0–42). The prevalence of intercritical gout, tophi, and bone erosion increased with the increase of the score. In the validation population, 83.20% of 193 patients with gout had ultrasound scores above 6.5; 76.10% of 163 patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia had ultrasound scores under 6.5. Conclusion: The scoring system based on the differential ultrasound signs can effectively evaluate the severity of joint injury in individuals with gout and asymptomatic hyperuricaemia.

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the effects of ERAS and conventional programs on short-term outcomes after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG). SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA Currently, the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program is broadly applied in surgical areas. Although several benefits of LDG with the ERAS program have been covered, high-level evidence is still limited, specifically in advanced gastric cancer (AGC). METHODS The present study was designed as a randomized, multicenter, unblinded trial. The enrollment criteria included histologically confirmed cT2-4aN0-3M0 gastric adenocarcinoma. Postoperative complications, mortality, readmission, medical costs, recovery and laboratory outcomes were compared between the ERAS and conventional groups. RESULTS Between April 2019 and May 2020, 400 consecutive patients who met the enrollment criteria were enrolled. They were randomly allocated to either the ERAS group (n = 200) or the conventional group (n = 200). After excluding patients who did not undergo surgery or gastrectomy, 370 patients were analyzed. The patient demographic characteristics were not different between the two groups. Background: Although increased age is associated with higher systolic blood pressure (SBP) in general, there may be variation across individuals in how SBP changes over time. The goal of this paper is to identify heterogeneity in SBP trajectories among young adults with similar initial values and identify personal characteristics associated with different trajectory patterns. This may have important implications for prevention and prognosis. Methods: A cohort of 12,468 individuals aged 18–35 years in the Qingdao Port Cardiovascular Health Study in China was followed yearly during 2000–2011. Individuals were categorized into three strata according to their baseline SBP: ≤110 mmHg, 111–130 mmHg, and >130 mmHg. Within each stratum, group-based trajectory analyses were conducted to identify distinct SBP trajectory patterns, and their association with sociodemographic and baseline health characteristics was assessed by ordinal logistic regression. Results: Five distinct groups of individuals exhibiting divergent patterns of increasing, stable or decreasing SBP trends were identified within each stratum. This is a first report to identify a subgroup with decreasing trend in SBP. Individuals with more advanced age, having less than high school education, family history of cardiovascular diseases, greater body mass index, greater waist circumference, and hyperlipidemia at baseline were more likely to experience trajectories of higher SBP within each stratum. Conclusions: The diverging trajectories among young adults with similar initial SBP highlight the need for prevention and feasibility of effective blood pressure control, while the identified risk factors may inform targeted interventions.

To establish a novel nomogram to predict individual 1, 3, and 5 years disease-free survival (DFS) of patients with gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma/mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma [(MA)NEC]. Among patients undergoing radical resection of gastric (MA)NEC, there is still a high tendency for relapse. A retrospective analysis of 777 patients with gastric (MA)NEC at 23 centers in China from 2004 to 2015 was performed. Based on the established nomogram, which included age, ASA, pT, pN and Ki67, the overall patients were divided into low-risk group (LRG) and high-risk group (HRG). The median follow-up time was 40 months (1–169 months). The C-index, AUC and time-ROC of the nomogram were significantly higher than that of the 8th edition AJCC and ENETS TNM staging systems. Background: As well known, the incidence of gastric cancer in East Asian countries is much higher than the international average. Therefore, improving the prognosis of patients and establishing effective clinical pathways are important topics for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer. At present, the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathway is widely used in the field of gastric surgery. Many RCT studies have proven that the ERAS regimen can not improve the short-term clinical outcomes of gastric cancer patients. However, a prospective study on the effect of the ERAS pathway on the prognosis of gastric cancer patients has not been reported. This trial aims to confirm whether ERAS pathway can improve disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients undergoing laparoscopic-assisted radical resection for distal gastric cancer.Methods/design: This study is a prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial (RCT). This experiment will include randomly divided groups, the experimental group and the control group, according to a proportion of 1:1. The perioperative period of the experimental group will be managed according to the ERAS pathway, and the control group will be managed according to the traditional management mode. An estimated 400 patients will be enrolled. The main endpoint is to compare the 3-year OS and PFS between the two groups.Discussion: This RCT should demonstrate whether ERAS pathway is superior to traditional treatment on inflammatory indexes, short-term clinical outcome and survival for laparoscopic assisted radical resection of distal gastric cancer.Our data can provide evidence that the ERAS pathway improves survival in patients with gastric cancer.Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, CHiCTR1900022438. The aim of this study is to investigate energy-harvesting properties of FeCo/AlSi composites under impact loading. First, FeCo/AlSi composite is fabricated using a casting process. Second, their inverse magnetostrictive characteristic is measured under compressive loading. Third, cyclic loading tests are conducted for an energy-harvesting device that consists of a FeCo/AlSi composite specimen, two magnets, and a coil. Finally, impact loading testing is applied for energy-harvesting devices using an in-house impact-loading machine: a modified Izod impact testing machine. The zigzag interface and chemical bonding leads to transfer of stress and strain between the Fe-Co fiber and the Al-Si matrix. The present energy-harvesting device based on FeCo/AlSi composite demonstrates excellent durability for impact loading, and exhibits good impact energy-harvesting properties.

Concerns about job insecurity are on the rise given changes in the technological, political, and economic context of work. Building on the ideas of resource value and threat from Conservation of Resources theory (Hobfoll, Am Psychol 44:13–24, 1989), we proposed that job satisfaction moderates the relationship between job insecurity and various emotional, attitudinal, and behavioral outcomes. While job insecurity reflects a threat to one’s job, job satisfaction captures the value of the resources provided by one’s job. We expected those most satisfied with their jobs to be most negatively impacted by job insecurity. We found support for the interactive effects of job insecurity and job satisfaction on well-being, turnover intent attitudes and behaviors (i.e., job search), affective commitment, and organization-directed counterproductive work behaviors across three methodologically distinct studies, which together encompass data from over 24,000 workers from 31 countries. Our findings suggest that job insecurity and job satisfaction combined contribute to the most desirable outcomes. We discuss implications for organizational practice and labor policy, which have typically focused on job insecurity or job satisfaction instead of both together.

Background and Objective: Few reports address the impact of surgery on the prognosis of rare and heterogeneous gastric neuroendocrine neoplasms (G-NENs). This study analyzed the influence of surgical treatments on prognosis to provide a personalized surgical treatment strategy for G-NEN patients. Methods: The clinicopathological data of 1126 G-NEN patients from 28 Chinese hospitals were analyzed. Cox regression analyses were used to analyze the prognostic factors affecting survival and recurrence, respectively. Results: Cox analysis revealed that in stage I-II but not stage III gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma/mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC/MANEC) patients, Extended lymph node dissection (ELND) was an independent protective factor for OS and DFS (p 0.05). Furthermore, among patients with stage III disease, the incidence of complications after ELND was significantly greater than that after LLND (28.4% vs. 12.1%, p < 0.001), especially severe complications (Clavien-Dindo grade III-V). Conclusion: ELND may lead to enhanced long-term survival for stage I and II but not stage III NEC/MANEC patients. Our results in multicenter patients do not support the routine use of ELND in stage III NEC/MANEC patients. Background The present study focuses on perpetrators of workplace incivility. Objective We set to answer two questions: 1) why the perpetrator instigates uncivil behaviors in the workplace, and 2) what are the consequences of workplace incivility on the perpetrator him/herself. Methods We examined the perpetrator burnout outcome of instigated incivility and infected emotional contagion as predictor of one's uncivil behaviors towards others and tested the cross-country structural invariance of the hypothesized nomological network on data from the U.S. and Italy. Results Data from employees in the U.S. (N = 350) and Italy (N = 273) suggest that contagion of joy infected into others and anger infected into others were related to instigated incivility, which, in turn, was positively related to emotional exhaustion and cynicism. Our results were structurally invariant across the two countries. Conclusions Similar to the victims of incivility, the perpetrator of workplace incivility also suffers from heightened burnout. As such, an employee experiencing and infecting into other employees his/her own negative/positive emotions increases/decreases his/her own tendency to initiate rude behaviors toward others. Overall, our findings shed light on predictors and consequences of workplace instigated incivility. We hope our research can serve as a springboard to the understanding and prevention of incivility initiated by employees.

Background The safety and efficacy of ticagrelor in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with fibrinolytic therapy remain uncertain. Objectives The primary objective of the TicagRElor in pAtients with ST elevation myocardial infarction treated with Thrombolysis (TREAT) trial is to evaluate the short-term safety of ticagrelor when compared with clopidogrel in STEMI patients treated with fibrinolytic therapy. Key secondary objectives are to assess the safety and efficacy of ticagrelor compared with clopidogrel at 12-months. Design The TREAT trial is a multicenter, randomized, phase III, Prospective randomized open blinded end-point (PROBE) study that enrolled 3,799 patients in 152 sites from 10 countries. Following administration of fibrinolytic therapy patients were randomized to a loading dose of ticagrelor 180 mg or clopidogrel 300 mg followed by a maintenance dose of ticagrelor 90 mg twice daily or clopidogrel 75 mg/day for 12-months. The primary outcome is the rate of TIMI major bleeding at 30-days and will be assessed for non-inferiority using an intention-to-treat analysis. Co-treatments include aspirin and anticoagulants. Other evidence based therapies are also recommended. Secondary efficacy outcome include a composite of death from vascular causes, myocardial infarction, stroke, severe recurrent ischemia, transient ischemic attack or other arterial thrombotic event. All-cause mortality as well as individual components of the combined efficacy endpoint will also be ascertained. Summary TREAT is an international randomized controlled trial comparing ticagrelor with clopidogrel in STEMI patients treated with fibrinolytic therapy. The results of this trial will inform clinical practice and international guidelines.

Deriving from the analogy between contingent reward transactional leaders (featured by clarity, consistency, consideration, and consequences) and “good parents,” we develop a moderated mediation model where attachment insecurity (avoidance and anxiety attachment) mediates the relationship of contingent reward transactional leadership with follower job insecurity, burnout, job performance, and organizational citizenship behaviors, and meaningful work moderates the relationship between contingent reward transactional leadership and attachment insecurity. Results based on two-wave data from two independent samples largely support our hypotheses. Specifically, supporting attachment theory, the relationship of contingent reward transactional leadership and follower outcomes (i.e., job insecurity, burnout, and job performance) is mediated by both avoidance attachment and anxiety attachment. Supporting the contingency theory of leadership, meaningful work strengthens the relationship between contingent reward transactional leadership and avoidance and anxiety attachment. Additionally, the indirect effect of contingent reward transactional leadership and follower outcomes via avoidance and anxiety attachment is contingent upon meaningful work.

Previous research has established a link between job insecurity and a myriad of safety outcomes; yet, the explanatory mechanism for this link is unexplored. The purpose of the current study was to explore the role of safety-production conflict (SPC) as a mediator between the relationship of job insecurity and six workplace safety outcomes: behavioral safety compliance, poor accident reporting attitudes, workplace injuries, experienced safety events, unreported safety events, and accident underreporting. Our hypotheses were tested using data from a sample of 389 public transit employees in the United States. Using a bootstrap sampling technique, mediation analyses revealed significant direct and indirect effects (mediation through SPC) of job insecurity on aforementioned workplace safety outcomes. Specifically, higher levels of job insecurity were associated with higher levels of SPC, which, in turn, were associated with detrimental workplace safety outcomes. In the context of improving employee safety, these results suggest that efforts to manage employee perceptions regarding safety-production tradeoffs are of particularly importance in light of today’s pervasive job insecurity during times of global financial crises.

Job insecurity is one of the most common stressors in contemporary working life. Although research indicates that the job insecurity construct has cognitive (i.e., the perceived negative change to one’s job) and affective (i.e., the emotional reactions to the potential change to one’s job) components, scholars rarely apply this distinction between cognitive and affective job insecurity in their conceptualization and theory development. On the basis of 535 independent samples, a meta-analysis in Study 1 found that (1) job insecurity was significantly related to 51 out of 56 outcomes and correlates; (2) affective job insecurity had stronger relations with the majority of outcomes and correlates than did cognitive job insecurity as well as explained valid, unique variance in outcomes and correlates above and beyond cognitive job insecurity; and (3) in most cases, affective job insecurity mediated the relationships between cognitive job insecurity and its outcomes. Furthermore, Study 2 examines a moderator that may explain why individuals with the same level of cognitive job insecurity may display different levels of affective job insecurity. Specifically, we found a stronger relationship between cognitive job insecurity and affective job insecurity among individuals with high work centrality with two samples. Overall, results demonstrate that it is empirically meaningful to treat cognitive job insecurity and affective job insecurity as two separate constructs and that affective job insecurity is more closely related to employee outcomes than is cognitive job insecurity. Future research could further assess affective job insecurity and continue to explore moderators and mediators in the cognitive job insecurity–affective job insecurity relationship.

Research findings tend to confirm anecdotal observations that instructors’ teaching evaluations are influenced by students’ grades, making some instructors feel pressured to reduce the academic rigor of their course in an attempt to get higher evaluations. To reduce this pressure, the current study tested whether distributive justice may explain the relationship between grades and student evaluation of teaching (SET) and how the fair process effect may moderate the relationship between distributive justice perceptions regarding grades and SET. Relying on the extant literature of procedural justice, we hypothesized that when students perceive no fair process that determines their grades, then: (a) the relationship between distributive justice perceptions and SET will be stronger and (b) the indirect effect of grades on SET via distributive justice perceptions will be stronger. Conversely, under conditions of strong fair process perceptions, these relationships will be attenuated. Using a survey of undergraduates’ perceptions of course fairness, we found support for our proposed hypotheses. We discuss the implications of our findings for higher education faculty.

Markers of inflammation, including plasma C-reactive protein (CRP), are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and it has been suggested that this association is causal. However, the relationship between inflammation and cardiovascular disease has not been extensively studied in patients with chronic kidney disease. To evaluate this, we used data from the Study of Heart and Renal Protection (SHARP) to assess associations between circulating CRP and LDL cholesterol levels and the risk of vascular and non-vascular outcomes. Major vascular events were defined as nonfatal myocardial infarction, cardiac death, stroke or arterial revascularization, with an expanded outcome of vascular events of any type. Higher baseline CRP was associated with an increased risk of major vascular events (hazard ratio per 3x increase 1.28; 95% confidence interval 1.19-1.38). Higher baseline LDL cholesterol was also associated with an increased risk of major vascular events (hazard ratio per 0.6 mmol/L higher LDL cholesterol; 1.14, 1.06-1.22). Higher baseline CRP was associated with an increased risk of a range of non-vascular events (1.16, 1.12-1.21), but there was a weak inverse association between baseline LDL cholesterol and non-vascular events (0.96, 0.92-0.99). The efficacy of lowering LDL cholesterol with simvastatin/ezetimibe on major vascular events, in the randomized comparison, was similar irrespective of CRP concentration at baseline. Thus, decisions to offer statin-based therapy to patients with chronic kidney disease should continue to be guided by their absolute risk of atherosclerotic events. Estimation of such risk may include plasma biomarkers of inflammation, but there is no evidence that the relative beneficial effects of reducing LDL cholesterol depends on plasma CRP concentration.

The present study investigates how and when qualitative job insecurity influences subjective well-being (i.e., life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect). Specifically, this article examines the mediating role of work–family conflict and the moderating role of work centrality in the association between qualitative job insecurity and subjective well-being. Based on a sample of 500 Chinese employees, the mediating and moderating hypotheses were examined using path analyses and further tested with the bootstrapping method. The results indicated that qualitative job insecurity was negatively related to subjective well-being, and that work–family conflict partially mediated this link (except for positive affect). Surprisingly, the negative effect of qualitative job insecurity on subjective well-being was more pronounced for individuals with low (as opposed to high) work centrality. This study provides preliminary evidence for the spillover effect of qualitative job insecurity on work–family conflict and identifies a group of employees (i.e., those with low work centrality) who may be more vulnerable to the negative effects of qualitative job insecurity on well-being.
