Abstract

Nitric oxide (●NO) participates in many biological activities, including enhancing DNA radiosensitivity in ionizing radiation-based radiotherapy. To help understand the radiosensitization of ●NO, we report reaction dynamics between ●NO and the radical cations of guanine (a 9HG●+ conformer) and 9-methylguanine (9MG●+). On the basis of the formation of 9HG●+ and 9MG●+ in the gas phase and the collisions of the radical cations with ●NO in a guided-ion beam mass spectrometer, the charge transfer reactions of 9HG●+ and 9MG●+ with ●NO were examined. For both reactions, the kinetic energy-dependent product ion cross sections revealed a threshold energy that is 0.24 (or 0.37) eV above the 0 K product 9HG (or 9MG) + NO+ asymptote. To interrogate this abnormal threshold behavior, the reaction potential energy surface for [9MG + NO]+ was mapped out at closed-shell singlet, open-shell singlet, and triplet states using density functional and coupled cluster theories. The results showed that the charge transfer reaction requires the interaction of a triplet-state surface originating from a reactant-like precursor complex 3[9MG●+(↑)⋅(↑)●NO] with a closed-shell singlet-state surface evolving from a charge-transferred complex 1[9MG⋅NO+]. During the reaction, an electron is transferred from π∗(NO) to perpendicular π∗(9MG), which introduces a change in orbital angular momentum. The latter offsets the change in electron spin angular momentum and facilitates intersystem crossing. The reaction threshold in excess of the 0 K thermochemistry and the low charge-transfer efficiency are rationalized by the vibrational excitation in the product ion NO+ and the kinetic shift arising from a long-lived triplet intermediate. Abstract

Recent advances in visual tracking showed that deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) trained for image classification can be strong feature extractors for discriminative trackers. However, due to the drastic difference between image classification and tracking, extra treatments such as model ensemble and feature engineering must be carried out to bridge the two domains. Such procedures are either time consuming or hard to generalize well across datasets. In this paper we discovered that the internal structure of Region Proposal Network (RPN)'s top layer feature can be utilized for robust visual tracking. We showed that such property has to be unleashed by a novel loss function which simultaneously considers classification accuracy and bounding box quality. Without ensemble and any extra treatment on feature maps, our proposed method achieved state-of-the-art results on several large scale benchmarks including OTB50, OTB100 and VOT2016. We will make our code publicly available.

Abstract

Most of the recent successful methods in accurate object detection and localization used some variants of R-CNN style two stage Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) where plausible regions were proposed in the first stage then followed by a second stage for decision refinement. Despite the simplicity of training and the efficiency in deployment, the single stage detection methods have not been as competitive when evaluated in benchmarks consider mAP for high IoU thresholds. In this paper, we proposed a novel single stage end-to-end trainable object detection network to overcome this limitation. We achieved this by introducing Recurrent Rolling Convolution (RRC) architecture over multi-scale feature maps to construct object classifiers and bounding box regressors which are "deep in context". We evaluated our method in the challenging KITTI dataset which measures methods under IoU threshold of 0.7. We showed that with RRC, a single reduced VGG-16 based model already significantly outperformed all the previously published results. At the time this paper was written our models ranked the first in KITTI car detection (the hard level), the first in cyclist detection and the second in pedestrian detection. 115. Enhanced charge transport of wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells enabled by crown ether-mediated crystal modulation.

Abstract

Further improving the performance of wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells has attracted significant attention due to its crucial role in further lifting the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite-based tandem solar cells. The majority of the efforts have focused on reducing the loss of open-circuit voltage (Voc), while little attention has been paid to improving the fill factor (FF). Herein, we employ a crown ether to manipulate the crystallization process of wide-bandgap perovskites. The strong affinity of crown ether with the metal cations suppresses the fast precipitation of cesium salts and delays the crystallization process during the deposition of the perovskite, leading to large grains and elimination of lateral grain boundaries. Moreover, the perovskite film treated with the crown ether exhibits a pronounced orientation of (110), leading to high conductivity and mobility. The improved charge transport properties within the perovskite significantly increase the FF of the as-prepared perovskite solar cell by an absolute value of 3%. In combination with the passivation of uncoordinated Pb2+ defects, the champion wide-bandgap (1.68 eV) solar cell with an n–i–p architecture shows a high FF of 83%, a Voc of 1.21 V, and a PCE of 20.6%. Meanwhile, the long-term stability of the devices is enhanced, with the unencapsulated devices retaining 99.6% of their initial PCE after 1080 hours of storage in air. Abstract

This article discusses the synthesis of N-trifluoromethyl thiocarbamates and ureas from 3-aminopyridine-derived carbamates. The authors present a new method for the synthesis of these compounds using isothiocyanates and carbonyl electrophiles. The article describes the reaction conditions and substrate scope for this synthesis, and the authors anticipate that this protocol will have numerous applications in drug discovery. The document provides procedures for the synthesis of various sulfamides derived from 3-aminopyridine, as well as information on the synthesis and characterization of various compounds using general procedures and techniques such as NMR and HRMS. 119. Dental Caries Status in Autistic Children: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract

The objective of this meta-analysis was to assess the dental health status of children with ASD in terms of decayed, missing, and filled permanent teeth (DMFT) and decayed, missing, and filled deciduous teeth (dmft). PubMed, Embase, psycINFO, and Cochrane library were searched for studies published until September 2018. A random-effects model was applied to estimate the pooled results. Nine studies comprising 532 children with ASD and 622 controls were included. No significant differences between children with ASD and controls were observed for DMFT and dmft in the world. Subgroup analyses revealed that children with ASD had a significantly higher dmft index than that of controls in Asia. Children with ASD have a worse dental health status than healthy children in Asia, but caution is necessary given the limited studies available for analysis.
