Theπh9/2[541 1/2−] band in 167Tm has been studied through the 124Sn(48Ca, p4n)167Tm reaction at Ebeam = 210 MeV. The favoured signature of the πh9/2[541 1/2−] band is observed to spin 61/2h̅. A remarkable small gain in aligned angular momentum at the AB-band crossing has been found. The crossing frequency and the gain in aligned angular momentum for 167Tm are compared with data for the N = 98 isotones of Lu, Ta and Re, and contrasted with Cranked Shell Model predictions, based on frequency diabatic configurations. Abstract

Lifetime measurements have been performed for yrast rotational states of 100Zr and 104Mo using a 252Cf source in a differential plunger arrangement, together with the EUROBALL and SAPHIR multi-detector arrays. The system has been proved capable of covering a range of lifetimes from a nanosecond to a picosecond. The transition quadrupole moments are found to decrease by around 20&percent; between I &equal; 4 and I &equal; 8 in the case of 104Mo while remaining constant in 100Zr. The origin of this effect lies either in a rotation-induced shape change, or in the strong mixing between the ground and s-bands in 104Mo.

Abstract

This article presents earlier results of our research works in the area of modeling Business Intelligence Systems. The basic idea of this research area is presented first. We then show the necessity of including certain users' parameters in Information systems that are used in Business Intelligence systems in order to integrate a better response from such systems. We identified two main types of attributes that can be missing from a base and we showed why they needed to be included. A user model that is based on a cognitive user evolution is presented. This model when used together with a good definition of the information needs of the user (decision maker) will accelerate his decision making process.

Abstract

Matière Nucléaire; International audience; High-spin states in 124Ba were populated using the 64Ni(64Ni,4n)124Ba reaction at beam energies of 255 and 261 MeV. Gamma-ray coincidences were measured using the EUROBALL detector array.The charged-particle detector array DIAMANT provided channel selection. The previously known rotational bands are extended to higher spins. Five new bands are observed, one of them extends up to the spin 40 \hbar region.

Abstract

International audience; The Euroball-IV \gamma -detector array, equipped with the ancillary charged particle detector array DIAMANT was used to study the residues of the fusion reaction $^{64}$Ni + $^{64}$Ni \Rightarrow $^{128}$Ba at E_{beam} = 255 and 261 MeV, in an attempt to reach the highest angular momentum and verify the existence of predicted hyperdeformed rotational bands. No discrete hyperdeformed bands were identified, but nevertheless a breakthrough was obtained through a systematic search for rotational ridge structures with very large moments of inertia J(2) \ge 100 {\mathchar h}^2 MeV^(-1), in agreement with theoretical predictions for hyperdeformed shapes. Evidence for hyperdeformation was obtained by charged particle + \gamma -ray gating, selecting triple correlated ridge structures in the continuum of each of the nuclei, $^ {118}$Te, $^{124}$Xe and $^{124,125}$Cs. In 7 additional nuclei, rotational ridges were also identified with J(2) = 71--77 {\mathchar h}^2 MeV^(-1), which most probably correspond to superdeformed shape. The angular distributions of the emitted charged particles show an excess in forward direction over expectations from pure compound evaporation, which may indicate that in-complete fusion plays an important role in the population of very elongated shapes.

Abstract

In recent attempts to search for exotic shapes, hyperdeformation (HD), and Jacobi transitions in Hf, Ba, Xe, Sn and Nd nuclei, ridge structures presumably originating from nuclei of very elongated shapes have been observed in 126Ba, with Gammasphere (GS) and in 126Xe, with Euroball-IV (EB-IV). After the promising results from GS, a second experiment in 126Ba followed at EB-IV, taking advantage of the use of the BGO Inner Ball (IB) for selecting the highest spins. The decay of the Giant Dipole Resonances (GDR) is also studied, and the analysis in progress. The Quasi-continuum transitions in the Jacobi region, show a significant decrease in energy for both 126Ba and 126Xe, compared to the Thomas-Fermi- and the LSD model predictions. Similar effects were recently found for other nuclei by Ward et al.

Abstract

Matière Nucléaire; International audience; The ultimate search for hyperdeformation (HD) at high spins with the EUROBALL spectrometer was performed for 126Ba as a hyper long (HLHD) experiment. The DIAMANT ancillary detector was used to tag \gamma -rays in coincidence with the emitted light charged particles. Using \gamma -energy correlation methods, the particle--xn-\gamma data have been analysed to search for hyperdeformed structures in the corresponding residual nuclei. Data in coincidence with one \alpha particle indicate the presence of normal deformed collective bands up to very high spins and the possible occurrence of HD-like ridge structures in 122Xe.

Abstract

Bacteriophages are found wherever microbial life is present and play a significant role in aquatic ecosystems. They mediate microbial abundance, production, respiration, diversity, genetic transfer, nutrient cycling and particle size distribution. Most studies of bacteriophage ecology have been undertaken at temperate latitudes. Data on bacteriophages in polar inland waters are scant but the indications are that they play an active and dynamic role in these microbially dominated polar ecosystems. This review summarises what is presently known about polar inland bacteriophages, ranging from subglacial Antarctic lakes to glacial ecosystems in the Arctic. The review examines interactions between bacteriophages and their hosts and the abiotic and biotic variables that influence these interactions in polar inland waters. In addition, we consider the proportion of the bacteria in Arctic and Antarctic lake and glacial waters that are lysogenic and visibly infected with viruses. We assess the relevance of bacteriophages in the microbial loop in the extreme environments of Antarctic and Arctic inland waters with an emphasis on carbon cycling.

Abstract

The58Ni(30Si,apn)82Y reaction at a beam energy of 134 MeV was used to populate the odd-odd nucleus82Y and coincident? rays depopulating high spin states in the evaporation residues were detected with the EUROGAM Phase 2 array. A superdeformed structure has been observed with an intensity of 1.5±0.5%. The cascade of 9 coincident? rays has consecutive energy spacing of ~160 keV. This corresponds to a dynamic moment of inertia which is almost constant at approx mately 25h2 MeV-1. The band is interpreted as a signature=0, negative parity SD band with ap51V52 intrinsic intruder configuration.

Abstract

Two-dimensional ?-ray energy correlations have been measured at high spins in1800s with the TESSA2 spectrometer. The E? - E?correlation matrix displays ridges characteristic of rotational bands with different energy separations of 96± and 72± keV for the energy regions of 660 to 840 keV and 975 to 1170 keV, respectively. The separation of these ridges remains constant in both energy regions. The dynamical moments of inertia are ?(2) =83±3 and 111±5 h2/MeV, respectively. The latter value suggests superdeformation in1800s with an axis ratio c/a=1.76 (ß2 ?0.64) at high spins.
