Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a clinical syndrome that is characterized by an acute onset and refractory hypoxemia. It remains an important contributor to high mortality in critically ill patients, and the majority of clinical randomized controlled trials on ARDS provide underwhelming findings, which is attributed in large part to its pathophysiological and clinical heterogeneity, among other aspects. It is now widely accepted that ARDS is highly heterogeneous, growing evidences support this. ARDS phenotypic and subphenotypic studies aim to further differentiate and identify ARDS heterogeneity in the hope that clinicians can benefit from it, then can diagnose ARDS faster and more accurately and provide targeted treatments. This review collates and evaluates the major phenotype-related research advances of recent years, with a specific focus on ARDS biomarkers and clinical factors.

Purpose To investigate the associations between the total body mass index(BMI) change at 3 or 4 years postpartum compared to the prepregnancy and cardiometabolic risk factors. Methods This longitudinal study included 1305 participants. Based on the total postpartum BMI changes, they were divided into 1.7 units groups using the interquartile range. Multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the associations. Results Compared to the reference group, there was a progressive increase in the βcoefficient (βcoef) of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) of cardiometabolic risk in the following groups: the ‘0-1.7 units’ group with the ‘high prepregnancy BMI + high gestational weight gain (GWG) trajectory’ [βcoef 0.33; 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.22, 0.44)] or the ‘very high prepregnancy BMI + very high GWG trajectory’ [0.66; (0.45, 0.88)] and the ‘>1.7 units’ group with the ‘normal prepregnancy BMI + normal GWG trajectory’ [0.33; (0.22, 0.44)], the ‘high prepregnancy BMI + high GWG trajectory’ [0.54; (0.41, 0.67)] or the ‘very high prepregnancy BMI + very high GWG trajectory’ [0.97; (0.79, 1.15)]. However, the ‘ 1.7 units are positively associated with cardiometabolic risk factors, especially those with a high prepregnancy BMI and high GWG. Conversely, women with a postpartum weight loss > 0 units have negative association with cardiometabolic risk factors.

Objective Because of their rarity, it is not known whether isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 (IDH2) mutations are related to olfactory neuroblastoma. We investigated relationships between IDH2 mutations, clinicopathological parameters, and prognosis for olfactory neuroblastoma to establish a molecular classification based on IDH2 mutations. Materials and methods An 82-patient cohort was retrospectively screened by immunohistochemistry using a mutation-specific IDH2 antibody and by real-time PCR for IDH2 mutations. We also determined immunohistochemically the expression of chromogranin A, synaptophysin, neuron-specific enolase, CD56, S100, and Ki67. Results The two methods for detection of IDH2 mutations had high consistency. Mutation of IDH2 detected by real-time PCR was correlated with higher Kadish stage, Hyams grade, and Ki67 proliferation index. Mutation of IDH2 was negatively correlated with expression of chromogranin A, synaptophysin, CD56, and S100. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that an IDH2 mutation, high Hyams grade, and Ki67 index were associated with poor overall survival. Hyams grade and IDH2 mutation were independent prognostic factors in multivariable analysis. Conclusions Immunohistochemistry was a reliable method to assess the mutation status of IDH2. Tumors with IDH2 mutations represented a distinct subset with aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. The gene status of IDH2 can be a major molecular classification criterion in olfactory neuroblastoma.

Nowcasts of strong convective precipitation and radar-based quantitative precipitation estimations have always been hot yet challenging issues in meteorological sciences. Data-driven machine learning, especially deep learning, provides a new technical approach for the quantitative estimation and forecasting of precipitation. A high-quality, large-sample, and labeled training dataset is critical for the successful application of machine-learning technology to a specific field. The present study develops a benchmark dataset that can be applied to machine learning for minute-scale quantitative precipitation estimation and forecasting (QpefBD), containing 231,978 samples of 3,185 heavy precipitation events that occurred from April to October during the years 2016 to 2018 in six provinces in central and eastern China. Each individual sample consists of eight products of weather radars at 6-min intervals within the time window of the corresponding event and products of 27 physical quantities at hourly intervals that describe the atmospheric dynamic and thermodynamic conditions. Two data labels, i.e., ground precipitation intensity and areal coverage of heavy precipitation at 6-minute intervals, are also included. The present study describes the basic components of the dataset and data processing and provides metrics for the evaluation of model performance on precipitation estimation and forecasting. Based on these evaluation metrics, some simple, commonly used methods are applied to evaluate precipitation estimates and forecasts. The results can serve as the benchmark reference for the performance evaluation of machine learning models using this dataset. This paper also gives some suggestions and scenarios of the QpefBD application. We believe that the application of this benchmark dataset will promote interdisciplinary collaboration between meteorological sciences and artificial intelligence sciences, providing a new way for the identification and forecast of heavy precipitation.

So far, it has been reached the academic consensus that the molecular subtypes are via genomic heterogeneity and immune infiltration patterns. Considering that oxidative stress (OS) is involved in tumorigenesis and prognosis prediction, we propose an innovative classification of colorectal cancer- (CRC-) OS subtypes. We obtain three datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) online databases. 1399 OS-related genes were selected from the GeneCards database. We remove the batch effect before conducting differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analyses between normal and tumor samples. Nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) was used to perform an unsupervised cluster. Lasso regression and Cox regression were used to construct the signature model. DEGs, robust rank aggregation, and protein-protein interaction networks were used to select hub genes, and then use hub genes to predict OS subtypes by random forest algorithms. NMF identifies two OS-related subtypes of CRC patients. Eight OS-related gene signatures were built to predict the outcome of patients, based on the DEGs between two subtypes. A total of 61 DEGs overlap each dataset, and the RRA analysis shows that 17 genes are important in these three datasets, and 15 genes are shared genes between the two methods. PPI network suggests that five hub genes are confirmed, they are SPP1, SERPINE1, CAV1, PDGFRB, and PLAU. These five hub genes could predict the OS-related subtype of CRC accurately with AUC equal to 0.771. In our study, we identify two OS-related subtypes, which will provide an innovative insight into colorectal cancer.

We developed EasyNanopore which is a ready-to-use software to select the events of a nanopore molecular translocation experiment. The software is released as an executable file with a graphical user interface and provides several versions suitable for different operating systems without installing any running environment to execute it. We use the adaptive threshold which adapts to the low-frequency variation of the baseline to detect events and uses a multiprocess method to accelerate the process of event detection. After the event is identified, its duration and amplitude information will be extracted and a resulting txt file will be generated for further analysis. Our software runs fast and can effectively extract the data from data of large-scale nanopore molecular translocation experiments.

In the post-COVID-19 period, the regional economic development gap in Guangdong has expanded and the risk has increased. This is not conducive to building a well-off society in Guangdong in an all-round way. Optimizing the industrial structure, changing the mode of economic growth, preventing regional economic risks, and narrowing the regional economic development gap are the focus of Guangdong governments at all levels. Based on a two-sector economic growth model, the paper uses descriptive statistics and Deng's grey correlation method to analyze the economic development panel data of 21 prefecture-level cities of Guangdong Province from 2011 to 2018, analyzes the characteristics of regional economic development in Guangdong, and makes experimental research of the effect of industrial structure optimization and economic development factors on economic growth in Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Shantou, Maoming and Meizhou at different stages of development. The results show that: there are differences in the industrial structure and the level of economic development in different regions; the rationalization of industrial structure and upgrading of the industrial structure has an impact on economic growth and show different features during different stages; in different stages of economic development, foreign trade, scientific and technological innovation are the main factors affecting regional economic growth. This paper holds that the northwest of Guangdong Province and the Pearl River Delta should formulate industrial structure adjustment policies to promote the rationalization of regional industrial structure, expand foreign trade channels and innovate financing mechanisms, and restrain regional economic risks in combination with regional characteristics. The new development pattern of domestic and international dual circulation and mutual promotion, further expands the level of opening up, effectively playing the role of free trade pilot areas, free trade ports, special economic zones, development zones, bonded areas, and other frontier highlands, improve the level and capacity of foreign trade.

The switch in the substation is operated by remote control. To prevent the on-site personnel from being injured by the explosion of the fault switch, a prompt signal shall be sent to the on-site personnel to remind them to stay away from the operating equipment before the remote operation of the primary equipment is required from the perspective of safety. At present, the method of telephone notification or no notification is adopted, which is low in efficiency and poor in operability, and it is difficult to timely and effectively notify on-site personnel. The on-site prompt device for remote switch operation can send prompt signals to on-site personnel before remote switch operation without increasing any workload by monitoring the message of the station control layer switch, which can prevent personal injury and death caused by the explosion of remote switch operation and is of great significance to safety production.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), is still an enormous threat to global health and the economy. Although China has adopted effective measures to control the outbreak, there is still a risk of local transmission from imported cases. Meanwhile, considering the high mortality rate and rapid spread of the disease, a safe and effective vaccine is urgently needed to control the pandemic. With COVID-19 vaccines becoming available to the population, it has become important to know about their acceptance in the population. This is important to enable high vaccination coverage rates and reflects the demand within the general population. An cross-sectional survey was conducted during October 2020 in Shanghai using a well-designed questionnaire, which aimed to evaluate the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccines and to identify the factors affecting its acceptability among working-age adults in Shanghai, China. We found that the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccines was high in work-age adults in Shanghai, China. The factors affecting the acceptability of vaccination identified in this study can provide guides to increase COVID-19 vaccine acceptability in future.
