Our paper is a narrative synthesis of the health belief model (HBM), which was developed in the early 1950s by social psychologists Hochbaum, Rosenstock, and Kegels working in the US Public Health Services. The HBM has been adapted to explore various long- and short-term health behaviors. In this narrative synthesis, we provide the analysis of the utilization of HBM and cervical cancer screening in Africa from 2009 to 2017 and critically evaluate the HBM in the context of different African countries. We also elucidate cervical cancer screening behavior among women living in Africa through a compassionate approach. Our results provide insights into individuals' health-seeking behavior and their place of residence, which provide valuable evidence for the development of further preventative medicine. Abstract Background Health is vital to a child's learning in school and success in life. Therefore, early physical examination, and follow-up if necessary, would bring parents' attention to their child's health and would likely improve outcomes. The purposes of this study are twofold: to assess the health status of first-graders and to examine the health status differences between sexes, levels of residence urbanization, and quantity of available medical resources. Methods This is a comparative descriptive study. Data from the 2002 Student Entry Physical Examination (SEPE) and Student Medical History Inventory (SMHI) were obtained from 203 public and private elementary schools in northern Taiwan where a population of 53,053 students was included. Frequencies, independent sample t test, one-way ANOVA along with Scheff's post hoc test, and Pearson's correlation were conducted using SPSS. Results This study showed that 13.7% of students had at least one diagnosed disease from the SMHI reported by parents. Moreover, the SEPE indicated that 79.5% students had at least one health concern. Dental caries, myopia, and obesity were the most prevalent health problems among the first-graders (69.6%, 27.1%, and 9.5%, respectively). Research results show that there were significant differences in the prevalence of dental caries, myopia, and obesity between different sexes and among levels of urbanization. However, the quantity of available medical resources made no significant difference. Conclusion Elementary school entry physical examination is an important way to detect students' health problems. It is suggested that school health interventions consider students' health profiles along with their sex and level of urbanization in planning. More research is needed to find the risk factors of the health problems. Additionally, the creation of a school health committee is suggested to implement and evaluate the entry health examination program.

Several factors, including healthcare outcomes and quality, influence patients' expectations of healthcare services. Currently, as patients have more understanding about dental care services, patient satisfaction is essential for continually improving the services being provided. The purpose of this study is to analyze the multiyear annual National Health Insurance (NHI) patient experience survey in Taiwan to explore the factors associated with the satisfaction rate from 2012–2016. This study used the annual NHI survey to explore patients' experiences of receiving medical service in dental care from 2012 to 2016. There were over 40 major items in the survey each year; however, we only selected suitable items that followed the Andersen model. We ran a logistics regression testing the relationship between the covariates and the items related to satisfaction in outcomes in different years. Patients who received health education from a provider in most time, self-reported better health status, felt that cost of care was not expensive, did not wait too long for counseling time and found it easy to make an appointment, had two to ten times greater satisfaction in outcomes compared with those who did not (OR: 1.83–10.06). Individuals working in the healthcare industry should implement communication strategies to improve patients' experience in the care process by including easy-to-understand explanations or sharing decision-making with patients. Furthermore, in patient experience surveys in dental care, less attention should be paid to whether patients can provide meaningful quality measures and more attention to ways in which patient experiences can be improved. Aims: There has been a lack of prevalence estimates of DSM-5 mental disorders in child populations at the national level worldwide. This study estimated the lifetime and 6-month prevalence of mental disorders according to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria in Taiwanese children. Methods: Taiwan's National Epidemiological Study of Child Mental Disorders used the stratified cluster sampling to select 69 schools in Taiwan resulting in a nationally representative sample of 4816 children in grades 3 (n = 1352), 5 (n = 1297) and 7 (n = 2167). All the participants underwent face-to-face psychiatric interviews using the Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia-Epidemiological version, modified for the DSM-5, and they and their parents completed questionnaires. The inverse probability censoring weighting (IPCW)-adjusted prevalence was reported to minimise non-response bias. Results: The IPCW-adjusted prevalence rates of mental disorders decreased by 0.1–0.5% than raw weighted prevalence. The IPCW-adjusted weighted lifetime and 6-month prevalence rates for overall mental disorders were 31.6 and 25.0%, respectively. The most prevalent mental disorders (lifetime, 6-month) were anxiety disorders (15.2, 12.0%) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (10.1, 8.7%), followed by sleep disorders, tic disorders, oppositional defiant disorder and autism spectrum disorder. The prevalence rates of new DSM-5 mental disorders, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder were low (<1%). Conclusions: Our findings, similar to the DSM-IV prevalence rates reported in Western countries, indicate that DSM-5 mental disorders are common in the Taiwanese child population and suggest the need for public awareness, early detection and prevention.
