- Abstract
Nanostructured cobalt selenide (CoSe
2 ) thin films were deposited on a glass substrate using the selenization of Co films at different selenization temperatures (300 °C, 400 °C, and 500 °C) in a pure Se vapor for two hours. The morphology and structure of the as-deposited films shows that the film morphology and crystallinity are affected by the selenization temperature. Increasing the selenization temperature from 300 °C to 400 °C and 500 °C results in a change in the surface and cross sectional morphology. At 300 °C, the Co films have an almost amorphous structure, while at temperatures of 400 and 500 °C, the Co films have a crystalline nanostructure with bilayered morphology. Optical analyses of the CoSe2 films at 500 °C show a large absorption (α > 1.0 × 105 cm−1 ) and a direct band gap (∼1.0 eV). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
A 56 to 66 GHz sub-harmonic resistive mixer using 0.13 \mum CMOS technology is presented in this letter. This mixer exhibits a flat conversion loss of about -12 and -13 dB and good isolations between ports from 56 to 66 GHz for both down and up-conversion with a lowest LO power of 0 and -1 dBm. The 2LO-RF isolation is more than 27 dB even if IF input power exceeds 4 dBm, which results from the mechanism of connecting drain and body of the device. Besides, this mixer has a relatively high input P1\ dB and a 3 GHz IF bandwidth in each band defined in IEEE 802.15.3c standard. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This document describes the conceptual design for the Offline Software and Computing for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). The goals of the experiment include 1) studying neutrino oscillations using a beam of neutrinos sent from Fermilab in Illinois to the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, 2) studying astrophysical neutrino sources and rare processes and 3) understanding the physics of neutrino interactions in matter. We describe the development of the computing infrastructure needed to achieve the physics goals of the experiment by storing, cataloging, reconstructing, simulating, and analyzing $\sim$ 30 PB of data/year from DUNE and its prototypes. Rather than prescribing particular algorithms, our goal is to provide resources that are flexible and accessible enough to support creative software solutions and advanced algorithms as HEP computing evolves. The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early universe, the dynamics of the supernovae that produced the heavy elements necessary for life, and whether protons eventually decay -- these mysteries at the forefront of particle physics and astrophysics are key to understanding the early evolution of our universe, its current state, and its eventual fate. DUNE is an international world-class experiment dedicated to addressing these questions as it searches for leptonic charge-parity symmetry violation, stands ready to capture supernova neutrino bursts, and seeks to observe nucleon decay as a signature of a grand unified theory underlying the standard model. The DUNE far detector technical design report (TDR) describes the DUNE physics program and the technical designs of the single- and dual-phase DUNE liquid argon TPC far detector modules. Volume II of this TDR, DUNE Physics, describes the array of identified scientific opportunities and key goals. Crucially, we also report our best current understanding of the capability of DUNE to realize these goals, along with the detailed arguments and investigations on which this understanding is based. This TDR volume documents the scientific basis underlying the conception and design of the LBNF/DUNE experimental configurations. As a result, the description of DUNE's experimental capabilities constitutes the bulk of the document. Key linkages between requirements for successful execution of the physics program and primary specifications of the experimental configurations are drawn and summarized. This document also serves a wider purpose as a statement on the scientific potential of DUNE as a central component within a global program of frontier theoretical and experimental particle physics research. The Pandora Software Development Kit and algorithm libraries provide pattern-recognition logic essential to the reconstruction of particle interactions in liquid argon time projection chamber detectors. Pandora is the primary event reconstruction software used at ProtoDUNE-SP, a prototype for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment far detector. ProtoDUNE-SP, located at CERN, is exposed to a charged-particle test beam. This paper gives an overview of the Pandora reconstruction algorithms and how they have been tailored for use at ProtoDUNE-SP. In complex events with numerous cosmic-ray and beam background particles, the simulated reconstruction and identification efficiency for triggered test-beam particles is above 80% for the majority of particle type and beam momentum combinations. Specifically, simulated 1 GeV/$c$ charged pions and protons are correctly reconstructed and identified with efficiencies of 86.1$\pm0.6$% and 84.1$\pm0.6$%, respectively. A solid-state semiconductor battery with the n-type WO3/silica-coated TiO2 core–shell nanoparticles/p-type NiO laminated structure for the rechargeable device has been developed. The electricity storage layer comprises poly-acrylonitrile mixed with core–shell nanoparticles containing n-type TiO2 particles coated with an insulating SiO2 shell. The average diameter size of nanoparticles was determined from 20 to 50 nm by a high-resolution transmission electron microscope and the relative atomic weight percentage of the Si on the coated TiO2 nanoparticles had been qualitatively determined by the energy dispersive spectrometer. The silica-coated TiO2 nanoparticles in the composite were assigned to the mixed phases of Anatase and Rutile by XRD analysis. Furthermore, photoluminescence analysis has verified the energy levels present in the bandgap of the silica-coated TiO2 core–shell nanoparticles. The device exhibits a constant-current discharge capacity of 0.16 mA h at a discharge voltage of 2.46 V. The energy density of the charging layer has been estimated to 12.3 Wh/kg. In this study, an advanced supercritical fluid (SCF) technique that is suitable for materials and electronic devices with low temperature (80 °C) and high pressure (4000 psi) is proposed for a ZnO-based resistive random access memory (RRAM). After an SCF treatment, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirms that the concentration of oxygen ions increases in the zinc oxide thin film. Moreover, electrical measurements confirm that the treated ZnO-based random access memory exhibits a lower forming voltage, lower set voltage, and higher ratio of high and low resistance states compared with a device without treatment. Next, the carrier transport mechanism is investigated by fitting the current–voltage curves. Finally, physical models are introduced to illustrate the extra oxygen ions that create better memory characteristics in the random access memory device after the SCF treatment. This significant SCF technique increases the content of oxygen ions without altering the original element ratio and maintains a simple device structure. Improving material and interface defects are an important issue in reducing solar cell leakage current and enhancing their efficiency. From back surface field (BSF)-based solar cell to passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC), solar cell structures have been designed to reduce defects. In this study, a supercritical fluid (SCF) technique is applied as a low temperature defect passivation technology to passivate defects in a PERC solar cell, enhancing device performance. Owing to the high penetration and high solubility of the supercritical fluid, hydrogen is the passivation source carried into the device to passivate Al 2 O 3 /Si interface defects. Furthermore, electronic analysis is used to confirm the benefits of the SCF treatment on the solar cell properties of open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current (Jsc), fill factor (FF), efficiency, power (Pmax) and series resistance (Rs), all measured under a standard light source. 137. Left Atrial Parameters in the Estimation of Left Ventricular Filling Pressure and Prognosis in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome

Because left atrial (LA) volume plays a critical role in determining cardiovascular outcomes, it was hypothesized that this might be related to the distensibility of the left atrium and how this relates to left ventricular filling pressure (LVFP). Echocardiographic estimates of LVFP were compared to cardiac catheterization measurements in 521 consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction and correlated with short- and long-term outcomes. Receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of echocardiographic parameters for predicting elevated LVFP (>15 mm Hg). LA distensibility was calculated as (maximal volume − minimal volume) × 100%/minimal volume. and was found to be logarithmically associated with LVFP (p <0.0001). LA distensibility was superior to mitral E/annular Em for identifying increased LVFP (area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve 0.92 vs 0.78). A total of 44 patients died during hospitalization, and 89 patients had died or experienced heart failure requiring rehospitalization at 12-month follow-up. In a multivariate Cox regression model, LA distensibility was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality (hazard ratio 2.373 for LA distensibility ≤60%, p = 0.026), while LA volume was an independent prognostic factor of 1-year death or heart failure (hazard ratio 2.266 for LA volume ≥34 ml/m2, p = 0.007). In conclusion, LA distensibility accurately identifies patients with increased LVFP after acute myocardial infarction and is an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Antidepressants, specifically selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), are commonly prescribed for depression treatment. Animal studies have shown that antidepressants can influence gut microbiota composition and specific bacterial taxa. We aimed to investigate the association between antidepressant use and human gut microbiota composition and functional pathway., Methods: We collected information on antidepressant use, demographic, food patterns, and clinical characteristics through questionnaires and medical records. The gut microbiota profiles of 271 depressive patients were carried out through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Patients were categorized based on different types of antidepressant use groups for gut microbiota comparisons. MaAsLin2 was performed to evaluate microbiota composition across groups. PICRUSt2 was used to predict microbiota functional pathways., Results: Patients taking SSRIs or SNRIs had a lower microbiota diversity. We found seven taxa abundances (Turicibacter, Barnesiella, Lachnospiraceae_ND3007_group, Romboutia, Akkermansia, Dialister, Romboutia and Fusicatenibacter) differed in patients with various types of antidepressants compared with those without antidepressant treatments (p < 0.05). Turicibacter inversely correlated with depression severity in SSRIs or SNRI users (r = -0.43, p < 0.05). Top identified pathways were related to compound fermentation and biosynthesis in microbiota function., Conclusion: Antidepressant usage, especially SSRIs and SNRIs, associates with changes in gut microbiota composition and specific taxa. - Abstract
Periodontitis is a common oral disease mainly caused by bacterial infection and inflammation of the gingiva. In the prevention or treatment of periodontitis, anti-bacterial agents are used to inhibit pathogen growth, despite increasing levels of bacterial resistance. Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn (SM) seed oil has proven anti-bacterial and anti-inflammation properties. However, the possibility of using this plant to prevent or treat periodontitis has not been reported previously. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of SM oil on experimental periodontitis in rats by using micro-CT and microbiota analysis. The distance between cementoenamel junction (CEJ) and alveolar bone crest (ABC) on the sagittal micro-CT slide showed that total bone loss (TBL) was significantly lower in CEJ-ABC distances between SM oil and SM oil-free groups on Day 14. Histology data also showed less alveolar bone resorption, a result consistent result with micro-CT imaging. The microbiota analyzed at phylum and class levels were compared between the SM oil and SM oil-free groups on Day 7 and Day 14. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria , Firmicutes , Bacteroidetes , and Actinobacteria were the dominant bacterium. Firmicutes in box plot analysis was significantly less in the SM oil group than in the SM oil-free group on Day 7. At the class level, Bacteroidia , Gammaproteobacteria , Bacilli , Clostridia , and Erysipelotrichia were the dominant bacteria. The bacteria composition proportion of Bacilli , Clostridiay, and Erysipelotrichia could be seen in the SM oil group significantly less than in t SM oil-free group on Day 7. Overall, the present results show that topical application of SM oil can reduce bone resorption and change bacteria composition in the ligature-induced periodontitis model. According to these results, it is reasonable to suggest SM oil as a potential material for preventing oral disease.

- Abstract
Acupuncture and its meridians are important components of traditional Chinese medicine, and numerous opinions have been previously expressed regarding these meridians. This study aims to explore the phenomenon of meridians from the perspective of electronic physics by studying these meridians for the response current affected by electrical pulse and acupuncture. In this study, acupuncture which applies an electrical pulse was used to research the physical properties of the meridians. Different kinds of pulses were applied to the human body to realize abnormal electrical signals. Comparing these electrical measurement results with the isothermal transient ionic current (ITIC) theory, we found that the transmission of meridian messages may be related to ion conduction. The movement of ions induced by acupuncture and electrical stimulation can lead to drift and diffusion currents through the meridians. The ionic conduction of meridian hypothesis is proved in that the substances delivered by meridians are in fact ions.

141. An Ultra-Low Power Smart Headband for Real-Time Epileptic Seizure Detection.

- Abstract
In this paper, the design of a smart headband for epileptic seizure detection is presented. The proposed headband consists of four key components: 1) an analog front-end circuitry; 2) an epileptic seizure detection tag (ESDT); 3) a Bluetooth low-power chip; and 4) customized electrodes. All the above components are integrated into a fabric headband with only 50.3 g. The smart headband system dissipates 55.89 mW. The epileptic seizure detection algorithm inside ESDT is validated by using Boston Children's Hospital's CHB-MIT scalp EEG clinical database with the detection rate of 92.68% and the false alarm of 0.527/h. We develop a service APP connected to the cloud so that the patients' health condition can be recorded and then referenced by doctors for further diagnosis or research.

142. Myocardial Tissue Doppler Imaging Detects Right Ventricular Dysfunction after Percutaneous Angioplasty of Dysfunctional Hemodialysis Access in Uremic Patients.

- Abstract
Background: Right ventricular dysfunction has been observed in uremic patients receiving percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). This prospective study focuses on the impact of tissue Doppler imaging echocardiographic parameters on assessing right ventricle function in uremic patients post PTA of dysfunctional hemodialysis access., Methods: Sixty uremic patients were divided into two groups by angiographic findings: an occlusive group (26 patients) and a stenotic group (34 patients). All uremic patients underwent routine echocardiography with tissue Doppler imaging both before and immediately following PTA to assess the right ventricular (RV) function and pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP). The right ventricular (RV) myocardial performance index (MPI) was obtained during tissue Doppler imaging over the lateral tricuspid annulus. The M index was measured and defined as the peak early diastolic mitral inflow velocity divided by the RV MPI. The RV MPI, RV isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT) and M-index were used to evaluate RV function post-PTA., Results: Immediately following PTA, PASP (31.6 ± 11.3 mmHg versus 42.6 ± 12.0 mmHg, p = 0.001), RV MPI (0.46 ± 0.08 versus 0.62 ± 0.13, p < 0.001) and IVRT (75.1 ± 12.9 versus 98.4 ± 27.7 ms, p < 0.001) increased significantly in the occlusive group. However, PASP and RV function did not change significantly in the stenotic group. In 42.3% patients from the occlusive group, the M-index fell below 112 and RV MPI rose above 0.55 post-PTA; this occurred in only 8.8% of the stenotic group., Conclusions: This prospective study demonstrated that there was a higher incidence of RV dysfunction in uremic patients with elevated PASP with totally occluded hemodialysis access than those with stenotic access post-PTA., Key Words: Myocardial performance index; Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty; Pulmonary hypertension; Tissue Doppler image; Uremic.

- Abstract
Topical benzocaine and lidocaine are widely used in general anesthesia to minimize the stimulation by awake intubation and in very rare occasion they may induce methemoglobinemia. Although this complication is uncommon, it may be potentially lethal. Here we report a 29-year-old female who was scheduled to receive correction of malocclusion and developed acute methemoglobinemia soon after induction of general anesthesia. Three weeks ago, she had received open reduction for fracture of mandible with intermaxillary fixation under general anesthesia, for which awake fiberoptic intubation was smoothly performed after premedication with 2% topical lidocaine and intravenous fentanyl. This time, trachomucosal block with 4 mL of 4% topical lidocaine and spray of 20% topical benzocaine over the oral cavity and nostrils were carried out before intubation. Awake blind intubation was performed because she could not open her mouth for more than 1 cm. A 6.5 mm-sized nasal endotracheal tube was smoothly placed in first attempt. About 10 min later, an unexplained cyanosis occurred and SpO2 fell to about 70%. Based on a high oxygen tension by arterial blood gas analysis (PaO2) with a contradictory fall of oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry (SpO2), acute methemoglobinemia was highly suspected. The diagnosis was confirmed by multiple-wavelength CO-oximetry. The methemoglobinemia was resolved gradually after methylene blue was given. In conclusion, we must always take the possibility of methemoglobinemia into consideration for differential diagnosis in case of unexplained cyanosis, particularly when patients have prior exposure to methemoglobin-inducing agents.
