A series of experiments were carried out to investigate the performance of a WEC rotor with platform motion. To achieve platform motion, a forced motion device with a rotor was installed in the Ocean Engineering Basin. In this study, the rotor's performance was examined at various phase stages between incoming waves at three wave heights, and compared to a rotor without a PTO system. The phase stage where the rotor exhibited the largest pitch motion was identified, and the efficiencies of the rotor with the PTO system were analyzed during this stage. Without the PTO system, the rotor experienced its largest pitch motion when the rotating center was positioned at the zero-up crossing point of the incoming waves at three different wave heights. Furthermore, it was observed that in the optimal phase, the rotor's efficiency increased with relatively large platform motion. These findings provide fundamental data for rotor design. Prioritizing adolescent health is a public health priority to achieve the sustainable development goals, including reducing the risk of unsafe sex. Data on unsafe sex have remained scarce among adolescents in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). To estimate the prevalence of unsafe sex in LMICs, we conducted secondary data analysis on the Global School-based Student Health Surveys among 244,863 students aged 13–17 years from 68 countries across five World Health Organization regions. The overall prevalence of ever had sex was 16.2%. The highest to lowest regional prevalence estimation of ever had sex was 30.5% (28.9–32.1) in the Americas, 28.6% (26.8–30.4) in Africa, 10.9% (9.2–12.6) in the Eastern Mediterranean, 9.6% (8.8–10.5) in South-East Asia, and 8.0% (6.8–9.1) in the Western Pacific. The highest prevalence of sexual intercourse before age 14 and practicing sexual intercourse without condom use were 36.5% (34.5–38.5) and 32.2% (30.1–34.3) in Africa, respectively. Findings suggest that current interventions are inadequate in promoting the uptake of safe sexual behaviors and an urgent intervention is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lead (Pb) is one of the most toxic heavy metals (HMs) for plants and the environment. Sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam], the sixth most important food crop in the world, is tolerant to various environmental stresses, owing to its high antioxidant capacity. In this study, we selected sweetpotato cultivars showing high tolerance to lead (Pb) for phytoremediation-related applications. Young seedlings of 20 sweetpotato cultivars were treated with 30 mM Pb. Daeyumi (KO-12) and Dahomi (KO-5) were selected as Pb-tolerant and -sensitive cultivars, respectively, based on their photosynthetic activity and growth inhibition index (I50). In the Pb treatment, hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde contents of KO-12 were 1.5-fold less than those of KO-5. In addition, KO-12 showed a higher ability to accumulate Pb in roots and leaves than KO-5. Expression levels of four Pb-responsive genes, including the metallothionein gene IbMT1, were higher in the roots and leaves of KO-12 than in those of KO-5. Interestingly, KO-12 showed greater tolerance to high Pb concentrations than sunflower and rapeseed, which have been well-studied for phytoremediation. Background: This scoping review aims to critically assess gaps in the current literature on atopic dermatitis (AD) by evaluating the overall effectiveness of dietary interventions. Through a comprehensive analysis that follows the Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines, we conducted a thorough search on the Web of Science database in May 2023 using specific search strategies to identify all relevant studies on the research topic. Summary: A total of 104 full-text articles were included for review. Our synthesis identified seven notable categories of dietary interventions for AD, showcasing the diversity of interventions utilized. This includes vitamin supplementation, probiotic and prebiotic supplementation, dietary fat, biological compounds, foods from natural sources, major nutrients, and diet-related approaches. Further analyses stratified by targeted populations revealed a predominant focus on pediatrics, particularly in probiotic supplementation, and on adults, with an emphasis on vitamin D and E supplementation. Key Messages: Despite most dietary interventions demonstrating overall effectiveness in improving AD severity and its subjective symptoms, several significant gaps were identified. There was a scarcity of studies on adults and whole-diet interventions, a prevalence of short-term interventions, heterogeneity in study outcomes, designs, and population, occasional disparity between statistical significance and clinical relevance, and a lack of a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach. Nonetheless, these findings offer valuable insights for future AD research, guiding additional evidence-driven dietary interventions and informing healthcare professionals, researchers, and individuals, advancing both understanding and management of AD. Background: Limited data exists on Charlson's weighted index of comorbidity (WIC) predictability for postoperative outcomes following perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) surgery. This study assesses the utility of WIC and other predictive scores in forecasting both postoperative mortality and morbidity in PPU. Materials & Methods: Patients with PPUs operated between 2018 and 2021 in a Malaysian tertiary referral center were included. Clinical data were retrospectively analyzed for association with mortality and morbidity measured with the Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI). Predictability of WIC and other predictors were examined using area under receiver–operator characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC). Results: Among 110 patients included, 18 died (16.4%) and 36 (32.7%) had significant morbidity postoperatively (High CCI, ≥26.2). Both mortality and high CCI were associated with age >65 years, female sex, comorbidities (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and renal disease), and American Society of Anesthesiologist score >2. Most patients who died had renal dysfunction, metabolic acidosis, lactate >2 mmol/L upon presentation preoperatively. While surgery >24 h after presentation correlated with mortality and high CCI, the benefit of earlier surgery <6 h or <12 h was not demonstrated. WIC (AUC, 0.89; 95% CI, 0.81–0.99) showed similar predictability to Peptic Ulcer Perforation (PULP) (AUC, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.93–1.00) for mortality. PULP effectively predicted high CCI (AUC, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.73–0.93; p < 0.001). Conclusion: WIC is valuable in predicting mortality, highlighting the importance of comorbidity in risk assessment. PULP score was effective in predicting both mortality and high CCI. This paper describes the past, present, and future of medical education in Cambodia. Although doctor training began in 1902, the first medical school was not founded until 1946. Since the colonial era, the curriculum and teaching strategies have been strongly influenced by the French system, dominated by didactic lectures and the apprenticeship model. Three chronic issues have plagued medical education in the country following the Khmer Rouge regime: a shortage of doctors, poor-quality training, and lack of relevance to the current and future population needs. An increasing number of medical schools and yearly student enrollment have addressed the first issue. Today, the fundamental challenges have shifted from quantity to ensuring the quality and relevance of medical education. Competency-based medical education (CBME) has been adopted as a new curricular model to tackle the latter two issues. Active collaboration between government institutions, public universities, and development partners drives this curricular reform at the national and institutional levels. This study compared the effects of precooling via whole-body immersion in 25°C CO2-enriched water (CO2WI), 25°C unenriched water (WI) or no cooling (CON) on 10-km cycling time trial (TT) performance. After 30 min of precooling (CO2WI, CON, WI) in a randomized, crossover manner, 11 male cyclists/triathletes completed 30-min submaximal cycling (65%VO2peak), followed by 10-km TT in the heat (35°C, 65% relative humidity). Average power output and performance time during TT were similar between conditions (p = 0.387 to 0.833). Decreases in core temperature (Tcore) were greater in CO2WI (−0.54 ± 0.25°C) than in CON (−0.32 ± 0.09°C) and WI (−0.29 ± 0.20°C, p = 0.011 to 0.022). Lower Tcore in CO2WI versus CON was observed at 15th min of exercise (p = 0.050). Skin temperature was lower in CO2WI and WI than in CON during the exercise (p < 0.001 to 0.031). Only CO2WI (1029 ± 305 mL) decreased whole-body sweat loss compared with CON (1304 ± 246 mL, p = 0.029). Muscle oxygenation by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), thermal sensation, and thermal comfort were lower in CO2WI and WI versus CON only during precooling (p < 0.001 to 0.041). NIRS-derived blood volume was significantly lower in CO2WI and WI versus CON during exercise (p < 0.001 to 0.022). Heart rate (p = 0.998) and rating of perceived exertion (p = 0.924) did not differ between conditions throughout the experiment. This paper studies the global regulation problem by a non-predictor event-triggered controller for high-order feedforward nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying delays in the states and input. We propose a non-predictor-based event-triggered controller with a dynamic gain-scaling factor, in which any information on the delays is not required in controller design. The dynamic gain-scaling factor is utilised to deal with high-order terms so that the considered class of systems are generalised over the previous results. Among the many threats to food security, extremes of temperature, and unpredictable changes in temperature such as unseasonal frost or snowfall resulting from climate change have significant impacts on crop productivity and yields. It has been projected that for each increase by 1 °C of the global temperature, agricultural outputs of some staple food crops will decline by up to 3–8%. Alarmingly, reports from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have revealed that our earth experienced one of the warmest summers in 2022, indicating that temperature stress is not a threat that can be taken lightly. Global food prices have risen by more than 70% since the middle of 2020, however, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) projects that by 2027, the combined effects of climate change, conflict and poverty may lead to an additional rise in food prices by 8.5%. Taken together, the impacts of extreme temperatures on staple food supply amplify the risks of child malnutrition and food insecurity, especially in less-developed countries. This review offers a novel perspective on the intricate interplay between plant responses to heat and cold stresses, aiming to pave the way for innovative and efficient crop improvement programs crucial for ensuring a resilient and sustainable food supply in the face of climate change. A thorough and comprehensive understanding on plant mechanisms can effectively help agricultural industry to produce stress-resilient and climate-tolerant crops. Sound can exert forces on objects of any material and shape. This has made the contactless manipulation of objects by intense ultrasound a fascinating area of research with wide-ranging applications. While much is understood for acoustic forcing of individual objects, sound-mediated interactions among multiple objects at close range gives rise to a rich set of structures and dynamics that are less explored and have been emerging as a frontier for research. We introduce the basic mechanisms giving rise to sound-mediated interactions among rigid as well as deformable particles, focusing on the regime where the particles' size and spacing are much smaller than the sound wavelength. The interplay of secondary acoustic scattering, Bjerknes forces, and micro-streaming is discussed and the role of particle shape is highlighted. Furthermore, we present recent advances in characterizing non-conservative and non-pairwise additive contributions to the particle interactions, along with instabilities and active fluctuations. How might we reconceptualize a professional knowledge model that encourages ethical commitment to enacting practices that deploy relational forces within high-pressure, time-constrained professional environments? We attempt to answer the question by proposing a theory that cultivates conditions for experimenting with experiential encounters with others and creatively activating potentials, which we call generative knowing. Hallux valgus is a common condition where the subluxation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint and lateral deviation of the hallux at the interphalangeal joint creates difficulty with footwear fit. Footwear and foot orthoses are commonly prescribed nonsurgical treatments for hallux valgus. Do extra-width footwear and foot orthoses influence peak pressure at the medial aspect of the metatarsophalangeal and interphalangeal joints in women with hallux valgus? Community-dwelling women with symptomatic hallux valgus underwent gait testing when wearing their own shoes and when wearing extra-width footwear fitted with three-quarter length, arch-contouring prefabricated foot orthoses. Peak pressure (kPa) on the medial aspect of the metatarsophalangeal and medial interphalangeal joints and on the plantar surface of the foot (hallux, lesser toes, metatarsophalangeal joint 1, metatarsophalangeal joints 2–5, midfoot and heel) were measured using the novel pedar®-X system with the pedar® pad and pedar® insole, respectively (Novel, GmbH, Munich, Germany). Paired samples t -tests were used to calculate the differences between the two conditions, and the magnitude of observed differences was calculated using Cohen's d. We tested 28 participants (aged 44–80 years, mean 60.7, standard deviation 10.7). Compared to their own footwear, wearing the intervention footwear and orthoses was associated with a statistically significant decrease in pressure on the medial aspect of the metatarsophalangeal joint (58.3 ± 32.8 versus 42.6 ± 32.8, p =0.026, d =0.49), increased pressure under the midfoot (70.7 ± 25.7 versus 78.7 ± 23.6, p =0.029, d =0.33) and decreased pressure underneath the heel (137.3 ± 39.0 versus 121.3 ± 34.8, p =0.019, d =0.45). The intervention footwear and orthoses significantly decreased peak pressure on the medial aspect of the first metatarsophalangeal joint but had no significant effect on the interphalangeal joint. BACKGROUND: Many studies have reported that exercise increases physical flexibility; however, no study has verified whether patients perceive an increase in physical flexibility after exercise. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the correlations between increased duration of exercise and the self-rated flexibility (SRF) and those between the SRF and quantitative flexibility. Variations in the SRF between males and females were also investigated. METHODS: The SRF of the hip (S-Hip) and ankle (S-Ankle) were rated by participants who completed a questionnaire. The range of motion of the hip (M-Hip) and ankle (M-Ankle) were measured using the straight leg raise test and dorsiflexion, respectively. RESULTS: No significant correlation between exercise duration and S-Hip and S-Ankle were identified. S-Hip and S-Ankle (p < 0.001) and S-Hip and M-Hip (p < 0.001) were significantly correlated, though S-Ankle and M-Ankle were not (p = 0.660). The exercise duration, S-Hip, and S-Ankle were not significantly different between males and females. 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), a piperidine iminosugar analogous to D-glucose, exhibits various biological properties with antidiabetic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. N -alkylated DNJ derivatives have been used clinically as medicines for type 2 diabetes and lysosomal storage diseases. DNJ naturally occurs in plants and microbes, and the methods of DNJ production in these organisms have attained stereoselectivity with more environmentally friendly and simpler processes than chemical synthesis. However, the yield of DNJ has to be improved by reinforcing its biosynthetic pathway. This review summarizes the various DNJ-producing species and the production titer of DNJ in plants and microbes. Additionally, it compares the methods used to validate the biosynthesis of DNJ in plants and in microbes. It also covers the application of some DNJ biosynthesis-related genes and the enhancement of DNJ content via metabolic engineering. Finally, this review highlights new biological sources of other iminosugars that can be detected through the knowledge of DNJ biosynthesis. Maintaining a healthy body weight requires balancing energy intake and expenditure. While previous research investigated energy input or food decisions, little is known about energy output or leisure activity decisions. By combining experimental decision-making paradigms and computational approaches, we investigated the psychological mechanisms of self-controlled food and leisure activity decisions through the effects of reward-oriented and health-oriented preferences as well as body weight status, stress, and coping. Based on individual's responses, the self-controlled food and leisure activity choices were indexed as the proportions of "no" unhealthy but tasty (or enjoyable) (inhibitory self-control against short-term pleasure) and "yes" healthy but not tasty (or not enjoyable) responses (initiatory self-control for long-term health benefits). The successful self-control decisions for food and leisure activity were positively correlated with each other, r = 22, p <.01. In beta regression analyses, the successful self-controlled food decisions decreased as the taste-oriented process increased, β = − 0.50, z = -2.99, p <.005, and increased as the health-oriented process increased, β = 1.57, z = 4.68, p <.001. Similarly, the successful self-controlled leisure activity decisions decreased as the enjoyment-oriented process increased, β = − 0.79, z = -5.31, p <.001, and increased as the health-oriented process increased, β = 0.66, z = 2.19, p <.05. The effects of the other factors were not significant. Overall, our findings demonstrated the mutual interrelationship between food and leisure activity decision-making and suggest that encouraging health-oriented processes may benefit both energy input and expenditure domains and improve self-controlled choices. A model-based study is conducted to optimize the dynamic performance of a solenoid actuator in a compressed natural gas (CNG) injector. A mechanical model, an electromagnetic model, and an optimum model using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm are built to depict operation and optimize the dynamic response times of the injector solenoid actuator. Effects of the number of coil turns (N), spring stiffness (k), and gap between plunger and cylinder wall (g), on the dynamic characteristics of the injector solenoid actuator are investigated. Simulation results show that, when k increases from 560 to 2560 N/m, and g increases from 0.1 to 0.5 mm, the opening response time increases 35.41% and 48.03%, respectively; however, the closing response time of the injector solenoid actuator reduces 27.27% and 45.25%, respectively. When N is increased from 342 to 552, the opening response time reduces 35.48%; nevertheless, the closing response time increases considerably with a 195.45% increment. Using PSO algorithm, it is found that the optimum version of the injector solenoid actuator has improvements for both opening and closing response times, in which the opening response time reduces 11.41% when compared with the original version. Purpose: Although most teaching around feedback focuses on the delivery, one must consider that the word 'feedback' is not a neutral word. It inflicts a range of emotions that, when used, may influence the effectiveness of the feedback process. A more profound understanding of health professions educators' perceptions regarding the word 'feedback' can help explain discrepancies between the provision, reception and acceptance of feedback. Methods: This is a qualitative inductive, reflective thematic analysis study. The authors interviewed 22 health professions educators participating in an online workshop to develop their feedback giving skills on their initial perspectives of the word 'feedback'. Results: We found four major themes: (1) Can I tell you a little story about my feedback experience? (2) It is probably going to be negative. (3) There is always something to learn if you are willing to hear the message. (4) It is like getting a report card. From the data, we suggest one key antecedent and two practical approaches one could take when giving feedback. Conclusion: In this article, the authors highlight barriers during the feedback process due to the mere perception of the nature of feedback and the connotations associated with the term itself and suggest approaches that can refocus conversations towards a shared meaning and purpose of improvement, despite the preconceptions of the word 'feedback'. The purpose of this study was to explore variables related to school belonging from a holistic perspective, including a large number of variables in one model, different to the traditional analytical method. Using 2015 data from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), we sought to identify variables related to school belonging by searching for hundreds of predictors in one model using the group Mnet machine learning technique. The study repeated 100 rounds of model building after random data splitting. After exploring 504 variables (384 student and 99 parent), 32 variables were finally selected after selection counts. Variables predicting a sense of school belonging were categorized as individual/parent variables (e.g. motivation to achieve, tendency to cooperative learning, parental support) and school-related variables (e.g. school satisfaction, peer/teacher relationship, learning/physical activities). Introduction: Facial fillers and injectables have transformed the landscape of cosmetic procedures, offering rejuvenation possibilities. However, the emergence of "Facial Overfilled Syndrome (FOS)" presents a concerning trend attributed to excessive filler use and suboptimal injection techniques. Understanding the interplay between facial aging and augmentation techniques is crucial in addressing and preventing FOS. Material and Methods: Facial overfilled syndrome is characterized by the excessive use of fillers, resulting in a distorted and heavy appearance. It manifests in various forms, including 'flowerhorn' foreheads, 'sunset' eyes, 'chipmunk' cheeks, 'witch' chins, and 'pillow' faces. The syndrome arises from attempts to combat anatomical aging with dramatic filler treatments, causing rapid volume changes and skin tightening. Skeletal structures and soft tissue distribution across different ethnicities play a significant role in FOS development. Results: Understanding the aging process across facial tissues is essential, as fillers cannot entirely reverse aging manifestations. Tailored assessment and treatment plans should precede filler injections, involving muscle assessment, observation of facial movements during injection, and ultrasound imaging of fat layers. Attention should be given to filler pressure and migration risks, particularly in areas with elevated pressure. Additionally, alternative approaches like energy‐based devices and polymer reinforcement of facial ligaments should be considered to minimize filler use. Ethnic variations in facial anatomy require careful consideration to avoid overcorrection. Conclusion: FOS predominantly affects individuals of East Asian descent due to specific facial characteristics. Prevention strategies involve minimizing filler use, addressing underlying bone changes, and considering ethnic and gender differences in facial anatomy. Recent MRI and ultrasound studies challenge the notion of filler breakdown, emphasizing the importance of filler selection and injection techniques. Education, individualized treatments, and a holistic understanding of facial anatomy are key to preventing and managing FOS and ensuring natural and harmonious facial aesthetics. A major challenge for control charts monitoring the coefficient of variation is to quickly detect shifts in this parameter, so that assignable cause(s) can be quickly removed and the process can operate in an in-control state with a stable coefficient of variation. This is especially so when there are constraints in the sample size. One proposed strategy is to vary the sample size according to the most recent information. However, a side-sensitive synthetic chart monitoring the coefficient of variation with variable sample size is not available. This paper contributes to the literature by developing a variable sample size side-sensitive synthetic chart for the coefficient of variation. The main contributions are in terms of illustrating the operations of the chart, deriving the formulae to evaluate its performance and developing the algorithms to optimize its performance. Comparisons with current charts show that the proposed chart outperforms all existing synthetic-type charts monitoring the coefficient of variation. The proposed chart also outperforms the variable sample size coefficient of variation chart for all shift sizes. In addition, it outperforms the variable sample size run sum and variable sample size Exponentially Weighted Moving Average charts monitoring the coefficient of variation for moderate and large shift sizes. This study aims to examine how mothers' poverty differently affects young adult children's self-esteem over time. We consider how young adult children's income moderates the between-subject relationship and the within-subject relationship. This study used two data sets such as the NLSY79 and the NLSY79CY. We used six waves from 2004 to 2014. A total of 3975 mother–adult child dyads were chosen. The hybrid model was employed to explore both the between-subject and the within-subject relationship. There was a significant between-subject relationship regarding the effect of mothers' poverty and adult children's income on adult children's self-esteem. In the between-subjects relationship, an interaction effect was found, such that children's income moderated the between-subject relationship between mothers' poverty and children's self-esteem. Long-term anti-poverty programs should be provided to women with children even after they completely are away from poverty. Aim: To investigate the efficacy and safety of pioglitazone compared to placebo when added to metformin plus dapagliflozin, a sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: In a multicentre study, with a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled design, 249 Korean patients with T2DM suboptimally managed on metformin and dapagliflozin were assigned to receive either pioglitazone (15 mg daily) or placebo for 24 weeks, followed by a 24‐week pioglitazone extension. Primary outcomes included changes in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), with secondary outcomes assessing insulin resistance, adiponectin levels, lipid profiles, liver enzymes, body weight and waist circumference. Results: Pioglitazone administration resulted in a significant reduction in HbA1c levels (from 7.80% ± 0.72% to 7.27% ± 0.82%) compared with placebo (from 7.79% ± 0.76% to 7.69% ± 0.86%, corrected mean difference: −0.42% ± 0.08%; p < 0.01) at 24 weeks. Additional benefits from pioglitazone treatment included enhanced insulin sensitivity, increased adiponectin levels, raised high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and reduced liver enzyme levels, resulting in improvement in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease liver fat score. Despite no serious adverse events in either group, pioglitazone therapy was modestly but significantly associated with weight gain and increased waist circumference. Conclusions: Adjunctive pioglitazone treatment in T2DM inadequately controlled with metformin and dapagliflozin demonstrates considerable glycaemic improvement, metabolic benefits, and a low risk of hypoglycaemia. Clinically significant psychological distress affects approximately 29.3% of Australian adolescents and 80.6% of sexuality and/or gender diverse youth (SGD-Y). Often, SGD-Y experience inadequate access and lower satisfaction with mental health services, stemming from age- and sexuality and/or gender diversity-status. Accordingly, exploration of factors affecting SGD-Y’s access to, and satisfaction with, mental health services is critical. Using a social constructionist lens, we explored factors supporting SGD-Y’s satisfaction with mental health services, and how these needs are or could be met. Seven LGBTQA+ youth aged 15 to 21 who received counseling in Western Australia in the last year, recruited via a university student participant pool and community organizations, participated in semi-structured interviews via video-conference, phone call, or SMS. Reflexive thematic analysis was inductively applied to participants’ verbatim accounts. Satisfaction was tied to participants’ sense of control over their healthcare-system experiences, shaped by four themes: person-centered support during the service-access process, resources to guide the search for services, confidence in therapists, and healthcare-system organization. Practices and policies supporting SGD-Y’s self-determination during their service access may allow for empowering and personally meaningful therapeutic experiences. Supporting materials for electrocatalysts must exhibit relative chemical inertness to facilitate unimpeded movement of gas, and demonstrate electrical conductivity to promote efficient electron transfer to the catalyst. Conventional catalyst electrodes, such as glassy carbon, carbon cloths, or Ni foam, are commonly employed. However, the challenge lies in the limited stability observed during testing due to the relatively weak adhesion between the catalyst and the electrode. Addressing this limitation is crucial for advancing the stability and performance of catalyst-electrode systems in various applications. Here, we suggest a novel fabrication method for a freestanding conducting film, accomplished through gelation, incorporating 1T-MoS2 and graphene oxide. 1T-MoS2 nanosheets play a crucial role in promoting the reduction of graphene oxide (GO) on the Zn foil. This contribution leads to accelerated film formation and enhanced electrical conductivity in the film. The synergistic effect also enhances the film's stability as catalyst supports. In liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants, a significant amount of heat and cold energy is consumed to capture and store carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted during the combustion of fossil fuels. The proposed system addresses this problem by utilizing the temperature difference between waste heat and cold energy as a power source to generate electricity. In this study, a novel waste heat and cold energy recovery system for a postcombustion LNG power plant was developed using an organic Rankine cycle (ORC). To design the proposed system, a process model was developed with the following five parts: (i) LNG vaporization, (ii) natural gas combined cycle (NGCC), (iii) amine scrubbing, (iv) CO2 liquefaction, and (v) CO2 injection. In the proposed system, waste LNG cold energy is used for lean amine cooling and CO2 liquefaction. The liquefied CO2 was pressurized to meet the injection pressure requirements. The ORC uses high-temperature exhaust gas from the NGCC as the heat source and high-pressure liquefied CO2 as the heat sink. The economic feasibility of the proposed system was demonstrated by an economic assessment, with the net profit evaluated by a sensitivity analysis considering variations in water, electricity, and equipment costs. Consequently, the proposed system exhibited an 18.6% increase in net power production compared to the conventional system. More real‐world data are needed to evaluate its efficacy and safety in treating locally advanced and metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following prior EGFR TKI treatment.This multicenter retrospective study was conducted at seven university hospitals affiliated to the Catholic Medical Center (CMC) in Korea. A clinical data warehouse (CDW) platform was used to access and extract information.A total of 48 patients were assessed. The majority were female (75%) and diagnosed with adenocarcinoma (95.8%). All patients had the EGFR mutation at diagnosis, 27 (56.3%) had the exon 19 deletion, 20 (41.7%) had the L858R mutation, and one (2.0%) had the exon 18 mutation. The median progression‐free survival (PFS) was 15.4 months. At 6, 12, and 18 months, PFS rates were 79.1%, 53.6%, and 27.3%, respectively. When PFS was analyzed by prior TKI duration (<18 months vs. >18 months), significant differences were noted at the 6 and 9‐month mark (p = 0.013 and p = 0.010, respectively). In multivariate analysis for PFS, only prior TKI duration and ECOG score showed statistical significance (p = 0.026 and p = 0.049, respectively). In the multivariate analysis for OS, ECOG score showed statistical significance (p = 0.006). Among 48 patients, 34 (70.8%) experienced adverse events (AEs) related to lazertinib. The most frequent AEs were skin reaction (29.8%), diarrhea (21.3%), and peripheral neuropathy (20.8%).The results suggest that lazertinib is effective in second or more line settings, with tolerable safety profile. Background: To describe the methodology for conducting the CalScope study, a remote, population-based survey launched by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to estimate SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence and understand COVID-19 disease burden in California. Methods: Between April 2021 and August 2022, 666,857 randomly selected households were invited by mail to complete an online survey and at-home test kit for up to one adult and one child. A gift card was given for each completed survey and test kit. Multiple customized REDCap databases were used to create a data system which provided task automation and scalable data management through API integrations. Support infrastructure was developed to manage follow-up for participant questions and a communications plan was used for outreach through local partners. Results: Across 3 waves, 32,671 out of 666,857 (4.9%) households registered, 6.3% by phone using an interactive voice response (IVR) system and 95.7% in English. Overall, 25,488 (78.0%) households completed surveys, while 23,396 (71.6%) households returned blood samples for testing. Support requests (n = 5,807) received through the web-based form (36.3%), by email (34.1%), and voicemail (29.7%) were mostly concerned with the test kit (31.6%), test result (26.8%), and gift card (21.3%). Conclusions: Ensuring a well-integrated and scalable data system, responsive support infrastructure for participant follow-up, and appropriate academic and local health department partnerships for study management and communication allowed for successful rollout of a large population-based survey. Australia prohibits the sale of nicotine-vaping products unless prescribed by medical practitioners. Significant policy reforms were announced on the 28th of November 2023 including a ban on single-use disposable vapes with and without nicotine, and the removal of the personal importation scheme. Despite stringent regulations, loopholes exist such that e-cigarette vendors are getting around it, and online markets provide a route to do so. We discuss strategies used by vendors to covertly market e-cigarettes online through social media. In this perspective, we highlight three proposed policies to strengthen social media regulations that may be feasible to implement. Our proposed strategies to regulate e-cigarette product listings on social media involve implementing robust age verification measures, enhancing the system for flagging and reporting prohibited content, and developing a more effective system to identify and flag content related to e-cigarettes. Tardigrades, microscopic animals that survive a broad range of environmental stresses, express a unique set of proteins termed tardigrade-specific intrinsically disordered proteins (TDPs). TDPs are often expressed at high levels in tardigrades upon desiccation, and appear to mediate stress adaptation. Here, we focus on the proteins belonging to the secreted family of tardigrade proteins termed secretory-abundant heat soluble ("SAHS") proteins, and investigate their ability to protect diverse biological structures. Recombinantly expressed SAHS proteins prevent desiccated liposomes from fusion, and enhance desiccation tolerance of E. coli and Rhizobium tropici upon extracellular application. Molecular dynamics simulation and comparative structural analysis suggest a model by which SAHS proteins may undergo a structural transition upon desiccation, in which removal of water and solutes from a large internal cavity in SAHS proteins destabilizes the beta-sheet structure. These results highlight the potential application of SAHS proteins as stabilizing molecules for preservation of cells. De novo molecular design is the process of searching chemical space for drug-like molecules with desired properties, and deep learning has been recognized as a promising solution. In this study, I developed an effective computational method called Scoring-Assisted Generative Exploration (SAGE) to enhance chemical diversity and property optimization through virtual synthesis simulation, the generation of bridged bicyclic rings, and multiple scoring models for drug-likeness. In six protein targets, SAGE generated molecules with high scores within reasonable numbers of steps by optimizing target specificity without a constraint and even with multiple constraints such as synthetic accessibility, solubility, and metabolic stability. Furthermore, I suggested a top-ranked molecule with SAGE as dual inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase and monoamine oxidase B through multiple desired property optimization. Therefore, SAGE can generate molecules with desired properties by optimizing multiple properties simultaneously, indicating the importance of de novo design strategies in the future of drug discovery and development. Scientific contribution: The scientific contribution of this study lies in the development of the Scoring-Assisted Generative Exploration (SAGE) method, a novel computational approach that significantly enhances de novo molecular design. Background: Emotion is a complex phenomenon that greatly affects human behavior and thinking in daily life. Electroencephalography (EEG), one of the human physiological signals, has been emphasized by most researchers in emotion recognition as its specific properties are closely associated with human emotion. However, the number of human emotion recognition studies using computer games as stimuli is still insufficient as there were no relevant publicly available datasets provided in the past decades. Most of the recent studies using the Gameemo public dataset have not clarified the relationship between the EEG signal's changes and the emotion elicited using computer games. Thus, this paper is proposed to introduce the use of data mining techniques in investigating the relationships between the frequency changes of EEG signals and the human emotion elicited when playing different kinds of computer games. The data acquisition stage, data pre-processing, data annotation and feature extraction stage were designed and conducted in this paper to obtain and extract the EEG features from the Gameemo dataset. The cross-subject and subject-based experiments were conducted to evaluate the classifiers' performance. The top 10 association rules generated by the RCAR classifier will be examined to determine the possible relationship between the EEG signal's frequency changes and game-induced emotions. Results: The RCAR classifier constructed for cross-subject experiment achieved highest accuracy, precision, recall and F1-score evaluated with over 90% in classifying the HAPV, HANV and LANV game-induced emotions. The 20 experiment cases' results from subject-based experiments supported that the SVM classifier could accurately classify the 4 emotion states with a kappa value over 0.62, demonstrating the SVM-based algorithm's capabilities in precisely determining the emotion label for each participant's EEG features' instance. Conclusion: The findings in this study fill the existing gap of game-induced emotion recognition field by providing an in-depth evaluation on the ruleset algorithm's performance and feasibility of applying the generated rules on the game-induced EEG data for justifying the emotional state prediction result. AbstractThe utilization of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is employed for the purpose of stabilizing fractured vertebral bodies. The existence of a mechanical imbalance in hard polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement has the potential to increase the likelihood of a fracture occurring in the neighbouring vertebral body. In order to reduce potential difficulties, the primary goal of this study is to investigate the potential benefits of increasing PMMA bone cement’s bioactivity and lowering its elastic modulus. The incorporation of a 10% volume fraction of hyaluronic acid (HyA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) into the bone cement led to an improvement in the bioactivity and decreasing of elastic modulus of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The integration of HyPE gel phase presents several advantages over pure PMMA bone cement, including enhanced setting parameters, improved degradability, and increased biocompatibility. The gel phase is additionally accountable for a reduction in the elastic modulus of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement. In addition, the existence of a porous structure that arises from the degradation of the HyPE gel phase delivers a significant amount of room, thereby enhancing the process of bone regeneration when implanted in the femur of rabbits. The utilization of HyPE in PMMA has been shown through comprehensive µ-CT analysis to enhance bone formation, thereby promoting osteointegration at the implantation site. A ‘Black Out Rage Gallon’ (borg) is a customised, individual alcoholic beverage popularised on TikTok, whereby half the water in a gallon jug is replaced with alcohol (usually spirits), flavourings, electrolytes and caffeine. We investigated the characteristics and portrayal of the emerging alcohol trend associated with the hashtag descriptor #borg on TikTok.We identified highly viewed TikTok videos with the #borg hashtag (n = 103) and conducted a content analysis, capturing viewer engagement (‘likes’, shares, comments), techniques used, characteristics of featured individuals, and the portrayal of alcohol and risky drinking behaviours.Alcohol was visible in three quarters of the videos analysed (n = 78, average amount of alcohol present 865 mL per borg) and consumed in one third of the videos (n = 34). One quarter of videos (n = 25) promoted alleged benefits of borg consumption compared to other alcohol products or approaches to drinking, yet only nine videos included a warning about potential harms.The borg trend on TikTok may encourage risky drinking, by portraying it in a style that younger viewers are likely to see as fun and entertaining.We were able to gain a better understanding of how this potentially health harming activity is represented on a social media platform that is popular with young people. The speedy dissemination of this trend highlights the need to monitor, investigate and counter emerging trends. The study investigated the feasibility of robotic bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) thyroidectomy for patients with thyroid tumors larger than 4 cm. BABA thyroidectomy has previously shown safety and effectiveness for thyroid surgeries but lacked extensive data on its application to larger tumors. Between October 2008 and August 2022, there were 74 patients underwent robotic BABA thyroidectomy due to thyroid nodules exceeding 4 cm in size. The mean patient age was 40.3 years. Fine needle aspiration results classified the tumors as benign (50.0%), atypia of undetermined significance (27.0%), follicular neoplasm (16.2%), suspicious for malignancy/malignancy (5.4%), or lymphoma (1.4%). The average tumor size was 4.9 cm, with the majority (85.1%) undergoing thyroid lobectomy, and the rest (14.9%) receiving total thyroidectomy. The mean total operation time was 178.4 min for lobectomy and 207.3 min for total thyroidectomy. Transient vocal cord palsy (VCP) was found in 3 patients (4.1%), and there was no permanent VCP. Among patients who underwent total thyroidectomy, transient hypoparathyroidism was observed in three (27.2%), and permanent hypoparathyroidism was observed in one (9.1%). There were no cases of open conversion, tumor spillage, bleeding, flap injury, or tumor recurrence. There are few studies comparing proportion, frequency, mortality and mortality rate following antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) infections between tertiary-care hospitals (TCHs) and secondary-care hospitals (SCHs) in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) to inform intervention strategies. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the utility of an offline tool to generate AMR reports and data for a secondary data analysis. We conducted a secondary-data analysis on a retrospective, multicentre data of hospitalised patients in Thailand. Routinely collected microbiology and hospital admission data of 2012 to 2015, from 15 TCHs and 34 SCHs were analysed using the AMASS v2.0 (www.amass.website). We then compared the burden of AMR bloodstream infections (BSI) between those TCHs and SCHs. Of 19,665 patients with AMR BSI caused by pathogens under evaluation, 10,858 (55.2%) and 8,807 (44.8%) were classified as community-origin and hospital-origin BSI, respectively. The burden of AMR BSI was considerably different between TCHs and SCHs, particularly of hospital-origin AMR BSI. The frequencies of hospital-origin AMR BSI per 100,000 patient-days at risk in TCHs were about twice that in SCHs for most pathogens under evaluation (for carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii [CRAB]: 18.6 vs. 7.0, incidence rate ratio 2.77; 95%CI 1.72–4.43, p<0.001; for carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa [CRPA]: 3.8 vs. 2.0, p = 0.0073; third-generation cephalosporin resistant Escherichia coli [3GCREC]: 12.1 vs. 7.0, p<0.001; third-generation cephalosporin resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae [3GCRKP]: 12.2 vs. 5.4, p<0.001; carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae [CRKP]: 1.6 vs. 0.7, p = 0.045; and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus [MRSA]: 5.1 vs. 2.5, p = 0.0091). All-cause in-hospital mortality (%) following hospital-origin AMR BSI was not significantly different between TCHs and SCHs (all p>0.20). Due to the higher frequencies, all-cause in-hospital mortality rates following hospital-origin AMR BSI per 100,000 patient-days at risk were considerably higher in TCHs for most pathogens (for CRAB: 10.2 vs. 3.6,mortality rate ratio 2.77; 95%CI 1.71 to 4.48, p<0.001; CRPA: 1.6 vs. 0.8; p = 0.020; 3GCREC: 4.0 vs. 2.4, p = 0.009; 3GCRKP, 4.0 vs. 1.8, p<0.001; CRKP: 0.8 vs. 0.3, p = 0.042; and MRSA: 2.3 vs. 1.1, p = 0.023). In conclusion, the burden of AMR infections in some LMICs might differ by hospital type and size. In those countries, activities and resources for antimicrobial stewardship and infection control programs might need to be tailored based on hospital setting. The frequency and in-hospital mortality rate of hospital-origin AMR BSI are important indicators and should be routinely measured to monitor the burden of AMR in every hospital with microbiology laboratories in LMICs. Certain bacteria demonstrate the ability to target and colonize the tumor microenvironment, a characteristic that positions them as innovative carriers for delivering various therapeutic agents in cancer therapy. Nevertheless, our understanding of how bacteria adapt their physiological condition to the tumor microenvironment remains elusive. In this work, we employed liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to examine the proteome of E. coli colonized in murine tumors. Compared to E. coli cultivated in the rich medium, we found that E. coli colonized in tumors notably upregulated the processes related to ferric ions, including the enterobactin biosynthesis and iron homeostasis. This finding indicated that the tumor is an iron-deficient environment to E. coli. We also found that the colonization of E. coli in the tumor led to an increased expression of lipocalin 2 (LCN2), a host protein that can sequester the enterobactin. We therefore engineered E. coli in order to evade the nutritional immunity provided by LCN2. By introducing the IroA cluster, the E. coli synthesizes the glycosylated enterobactin, which creates steric hindrance to avoid the LCN2 sequestration. The IroA-E. coli showed enhanced resistance to LCN2 and significantly improved the anti-tumor activity in mice. Moreover, the mice cured by the IroA-E. coli treatment became resistant to the tumor re-challenge, indicating the establishment of immunological memory. Objective Animals Studied Procedures Results Conclusions To evaluate the effects of alfaxalone, medetomidine, and xylazine on intraocular pressure (IOP) in domestic pigeons (Columba livia domestica).Eight 12‐month‐old pigeons (16 eyes).The pigeons were randomly assigned to three treatment groups (10 mg/kg of alfaxalone, 0.2 mg/kg of medetomidine, or 10 mg/kg of xylazine) with a 7‐day washout period. The IOP was measured using a rebound tonometer and calibrated using the formula y = 0.439x + 2.059, where y is the tonometric IOP and x is the actual IOP.All three drugs significantly reduced IOP. Alfaxalone led to the least reduction at 5.2 mm Hg, medetomidine reduced IOP to 12.5 mm Hg, whereas xylazine resulted in the greatest reduction at 15.3 mm Hg. Alfaxalone achieved its maximum IOP reduction in 6 min, whereas medetomidine and xylazine required 95 and 115 min, respectively. Both alpha‐2 agonists, medetomidine, and xylazine, showed a prolonged duration of effect and a greater reduction in IOP than those of alfaxalone. Urethane acrylate (UA) was synthesized from various di-polyols, such as poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTMG, Mn = 1000), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG, Mn = 1000), and poly(propylene glycol) (PPG, Mn = 1000), for use as a polymer binder for paint. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and UA were blended to form an acrylic resin with high transmittance and stress-strain curve. When PMMA was blended with UA, a network structure was formed due to physical entanglement between the two polymers, increasing the mechanical properties. UA was synthesized by forming a prepolymer using di-polyol and hexamethylene diisocyanate, which were chain structure monomers, and capping them with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate to provide an acryl group. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to observe the changes in functional groups, and gel permeation chromatography was used to confirm that the three series showed similar molecular weight and PDI values. The yellowing phenomenon that appears mainly in the curing reaction of the polymer binder was solved, and the mechanical properties according to the effects of the polyol used in the main chain were compared. The content of the blended UA was quantified using ultravioletvisible spectroscopy at a wavelength of 370 nm based on 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%, and the shear strength and tensile strength were evaluated using specimens in a suitable mode. Background: Biomarkers that predict the treatment response in patients with knee osteoarthritis are scarce. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of synovial fluid cell counts and their ratios as biomarkers of primary knee osteoarthritis. Methods: This retrospective study investigated 96 consecutive knee osteoarthritis patients with knee effusion who underwent joint fluid aspiration analysis and received concomitant intra-articular corticosteroid injections and blood tests. The monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were calculated. After 6 months of treatment, patients were divided into two groups: the responder group showing symptom resolution, defined by a visual analog scale (VAS) score of ≤ 3, without additional treatment, and the non-responder group showing residual symptoms, defined by a VAS score of > 3 and requiring further intervention, such as additional medication, repeated injections, or surgical treatment. Unpaired t-tests and univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted between the two groups to predict treatment response after conservative treatment. The predictive value was calculated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, and the optimal cutoff value was determined. Results: Synovial fluid MLR was significantly higher in the non-responder group compared to the responder group (1.86 ± 1.64 vs. 1.11 ± 1.37, respectively; p = 0.02). After accounting for confounding variables, odds ratio of non-responder due to increased MLR were 1.63 (95% confidence interval: 1.11–2.39). The optimal MLR cutoff value for predicting patient response to conservative treatment was 0.941. Materials offering high energy density are currently desired to meet the increasing demand for energy storage applications, such as pulsed power devices, electric vehicles, high-frequency inverters, and so on. Particularly, ceramic-based dielectric materials have received significant attention for energy storage capacitor applications due to their outstanding properties of high power density, fast charge–discharge capabilities, and excellent temperature stability relative to batteries, electrochemical capacitors, and dielectric polymers. In this paper, we present fundamental concepts for energy storage in dielectrics, key parameters, and influence factors to enhance the energy storage performance, and we also summarize the recent progress of dielectrics, such as bulk ceramics (linear dielectrics, ferroelectrics, relaxor ferroelectrics, and anti-ferroelectrics), ceramic films, and multilayer ceramic capacitors. In addition, various strategies, such as chemical modification, grain refinement/microstructure, defect engineering, phase, local structure, domain evolution, layer thickness, stability, and electrical homogeneity, are focused on the structure–property relationship on the multiscale, which has been thoroughly addressed. Moreover, this review addresses the challenges and opportunities for future dielectric materials in energy storage capacitor applications. Overall, this review provides readers with a deeper understanding of the chemical composition, physical properties, and energy storage performance in this field of energy storage ceramic materials. In order to reduce carbon emissions, which are currently a problem in the shipping and offshore plant sectors, the international community is strengthening regulations such as the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI). To cope with this, eco-friendly fuel propulsion technology is being developed, and the development of an ammonia fuel supply system is in progress. Among them, fuel valve train (FVT) technology was researched for the final supply and cutoff of fuel and purging through nitrogen for ammonia engines. In this paper, we analyzed the change in ammonia supply due to FVT opening and the change in nitrogen supply due to closure. In addition, a plan to minimize risk factors was presented by applying a control method to remove residual fuel in FVT. According to the presented FVT model, the difference in the flow rate of supplied fuel was as much as 17.8 kg/s. Additionally, by opening the gas bleed valve at intervals during the closing process and purging about 0.28 kg of nitrogen, the internal fuel could be completely discharged. Due to the disturbances and varying latency, a teleoperated robotic manipulator might not comply with the master control commands. Although prior studies on minimising the impact of network latency and disturbances on teleoperated robots were conducted, there has been very little research on the prediction of minimal operation regions of robotic arms, especially in the worst‐case scenarios when the disturbances and time delays still prevail even after impact minimisation. This study investigates the problem and proposes a novel solution to predicting minimal operation regions of networked control robotic manipulators. The proposed method can be used to forecast safe operation regions in which the manipulators will certainly enter and exclude regions that the robots will never penetrate. Leveraging on a Lyanonov Krasovskii criterion, the method performs region prediction by establishing minimal reachable bounding sets of the nonlinear, perturbed robotic arm's state vectors guided via a time‐varying delay‐dominant network. Though predominantly nonlinear, the entire prediction process is formulated as a tractable Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimisation problem, which can be solved efficiently and effectively. Background Methods Findings Interpretation As exposure to UV radiation is the primary modifiable environmental risk factor associated with skin cancer, it remains the principal focus of most prevention strategies. Numerous sun protection campaigns have been implemented worldwide; however, their impact on the actual incidence and mortality rates of skin cancer seems to be limited. To create successful skin cancer prevention campaigns, it is important to have a comprehensive understanding of individuals' attitudes and behaviours regarding sun protection. The aim of the current study was to determine and report on the prevalence of self‐reported attitudes, knowledge and behaviours regarding two of the major sun protection recommendations—avoidance of sun exposure and use of sunscreens—in an international representative sample across five continents.This cross‐sectional study was conducted in 20 countries using a web‐based online survey.A total of 50,552 individuals, comprising 25,388 men (50.22%) and 25,164 women (49.78%), participated in the survey. Among them, 83.2% reported having been voluntarily exposed to the sun (for sun‐basking reasons) at least once in the last 12 months, and 47.96% acknowledged being exposed to the sun between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM. The primary reason for non‐adherence was that these hours were the most convenient times (32.28%). Only 24.05% reported applying sunscreen every 2 h when outdoors. Forgetfulness was the primary reason as provided by 27.79% of participants. Males and older age groups were less likely to adopt sun‐protective behaviours around the world. Forgetfulness and the challenges posed by time constraints seem to be the biggest barriers to proper adherence.These findings should prompt the collaboration with health authorities and the manufacturers to enhance adherence by setting reasonable sunscreen prices and creating formulations that make their application less burdensome. Strongly correlated electron systems are a cornerstone of modern physics, being responsible for groundbreaking phenomena from superconducting magnets to quantum computing. In most cases, correlations in electrons arise exclusively because of Coulomb interactions. In this work, we reveal that free electrons interacting simultaneously with a light field can become highly correlated via mechanisms beyond Coulomb interactions. In the case of two electrons, the resulting Pearson correlation coefficient for the joint probability distribution of the output electron energies is enhanced by more than 13 orders of magnitude compared to that of electrons interacting with the light field in succession (one after another). These highly correlated electrons are the result of momentum and energy exchange between the participating electrons via the external quantum light field. Our findings pave the way to the creation and control of highly correlated free electrons for applications including quantum information and ultrafast imaging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We consider a global regulation problem for almost feedforward nonlinear systems with uncertain time‐varying parameters using an adaptive event‐triggered controller. The systems we consider are called "almost" feedforward systems because, in addition to the feedforward nonlinearity with the unknown linear growth rate, there is a non‐zero input‐matching term. Notably, this input‐matching term is a non‐feedforward term and it cannot be directly canceled due to the presence of input uncertainty and the use of event‐triggered control. To solve our considered problem, we propose an adaptive event‐triggered controller with multi‐triggering conditions and dynamic gain. We show that the closed‐loop system is globally regulated and the times between executions are positively lower bounded. Moreover, we show that the positive lower bounds of interexecution times can be enlarged by a control parameter. For a clear illustration, a practical example is given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exciton polaritons are hybrid light‐matter quasi‐particles that hold exceptional opportunities for future optoelectronic devices. Taking the synergic advantages of room‐temperature perovskite excitons and topological photonic structures, topological exciton‐polaritons are experimentally demonstrated in organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite thin films. Topological junction structures based on perovskite gratings are realized using a momentum‐space analog of the 1D Dirac system. Desired enhancement phenomena are observed including narrow‐beam polariton emission from a tightly localized junction region, polaritonic nonlinearity boost, and enhanced luminescence. These remarkable features are obtained from highly compact devices with footprint widths on the order of a few micrometers and are efficiently tailorable with simple unit‐cell geometry control. Therefore, the proposed approach can be a powerful platform for room‐temperature topological exciton‐polaritons and concomitant device applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the size and structure of globular cluster (GC) systems of 118 early-type galaxies from the NGVS, MATLAS, and ACSVCS surveys. Fitting Sérsic profiles, we investigate the relationship between effective radii of GC systems (R e,gc) and galaxy properties. GC systems are 2–4 times more extended than host galaxies across the entire stellar mass range of our sample (108.3 M ⊙ < M * < 1011.6 M ⊙). The relationship between R e,gc and galaxy stellar mass exhibits a characteristic "knee" at a stellar mass of M p ≃ 1010.8, similar to the galaxy R e –stellar mass relationship. We present a new characterization of the traditional blue and red GC color subpopulations, describing them with respect to host galaxy (g ′ − i ′) color (Δgi): GCs with similar colors to their hosts have a "red" Δgi, and those significantly bluer GCs have a "blue" Δgi. The GC populations with red Δgi, even in dwarf galaxies, are twice as extended as the stars, suggesting that formation or survival mechanisms favor the outer regions. We find a tight correlation between R e,gc and the total number of GCs, with intrinsic scatter ≲0.1 dex spanning two and three orders of magnitude in size and number, respectively. This holds for both red and blue subpopulations, albeit with different slopes. Assuming that N GC,Total correlates with M 200, we find that the red GC systems have effective radii of roughly 1%–5% R 200, while the blue GC systems in massive galaxies can have sizes as large as ∼10% R 200. Environmental dependence on R e,gc is also found, with lower-density environments exhibiting more extended GC systems at fixed mass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
