Conventional endovascular embolization of intracranial (or brain) aneurysms using helical detachable platinum coils can be time-consuming and occasionally requires retreatment due to incomplete coil packing. These shortcomings create a need for new biomedical devices and methods of achieving brain aneurysm occlusion. This paper presents a biocompatible and highly porous shape memory polymer (SMP) material with potential applications in the development of novel endovascular devices for treating complex intracranial aneurysms. The novel highly porous polyurethane SMP is synthesized as an open cell foam material with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 39 °C using a sugar particle leaching method. Once heated above the Tg, the compressed SMP foam is able to quickly return to its original shape. An electrical resistance heating method is also employed to demonstrate a potential triggering design for the shape recovery process in future medical applications. The mechanical properties of the developed SMP foam are characterized at temperatures up to 10 °C above the respective Tg. The results from this work demonstrate that the porous SMP material developed in this study and the electrical resistance heating trigger mechanism provide a solid foundation for future design of biomedical devices to enhance the long-term therapeutic outcomes of endovascular intracranial aneurysm treatments.

The existence of dead broilers in flat broiler houses poses significant challenges to large-scale and welfare-oriented broiler breeding. To ensure the timely identification and removal of dead broilers, a mobile device based on visual technology for grasping them was meticulously designed in this study. Among the multiple recognition models explored, the YOLOv6 model was selected due to its exceptional performance, attaining an impressive 86.1% accuracy in identification. This model, when integrated with a specially designed robotic arm, forms a potent combination for effectively handling the task of grasping dead broilers. Extensive experiments were conducted to validate the efficacy of the device. The results reveal that the device achieved an average grasping rate of dead broilers of 81.3%. These findings indicate that the proposed device holds great potential for practical field deployment, offering a reliable solution for the prompt identification and grasping of dead broilers, thereby enhancing the overall management and welfare of broiler populations. Human activities have resulted in the eutrophication of rivers, leading to heightened concerns regarding the occurrence of filamentous algal blooms. With the increasing utilization of rivers by humans, the occurrence of these nuisance filamentous algae is expected to increase in frequency in the future. Blooms primarily occur due to energy congestion at the trophic level of primary producers, resulting from inefficient energy flow in both the bottom-up and top-down pathways. To investigate the mechanism underlying the outbreak of filamentous algae, two streams in the southern Taihang catchment with different nutrient conditions were selected for this study. The objective of this study was to understand the effects of nutrient levels and other potential factors on the distribution and succession of filamentous algae. Our findings revealed a positive correlation between nutrient conditions and the biomass of filamentous algae. Cladophora and Spirogyra were identified as the dominant species among filamentous algae, each exhibiting unique distribution patterns in the two streams. Spirogyra thrived predominantly in the Baligou stream, where lower nutrient levels and warmer temperatures prevailed. In contrast, Cladophora flourished in the nutrient-rich Nanping stream at colder temperatures. Results from the generalized linear model indicated that the biomass of Cladophora was influenced by nutrient concentration, water depth, water temperature, and macrobenthic biomass. The biomass of Spirogyra, on the other hand, was primarily determined by water temperature, nutrient concentrations, water depth, and velocity. The positive correlation between Cladophora and macrobenthos revealed a possible mutually beneficial relationship, suggesting that macrobenthos may promote the growth of Cladophora by inhibiting periphytic diatoms. In return, the macrobenthos benefit from a secure refuge and an environment conducive to foraging and reproduction. This study suggested that to alleviate energy flow congestion in the benthic food chain, it is advisable to address this issue by either reducing nutrient loadings in rivers or enhancing the presence of benthivorous fishes in streams. The inconsistency between mismatch repair (MMR) protein immunohistochemistry (IHC) and microsatellite instability PCR (MSI‐PCR) methods has been widely reported. We aim to investigate the prognosis and the effect of immunotherapy in dMMR by IHC but MSS by MSI‐PCR (dMMR&MSS) colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. A microsatellite instability (MSI) predicting model was established to help find dMMR&MSS patients. MMR and MSI states were detected by the IHC and MSI‐PCR in 1622 CRC patients (ZS6Y‐1 cohort). Logistic regression analysis was used to screen clinical features to construct an MSI‐predicting nomogram. We propose a new nomogram‐based assay to find patients with dMMR&MSS, in which the MSI‐PCR assay only detects dMMR patients with MSS predictive results. We applied the new strategy to a random cohort of 248 CRC patients (ZS6Y‐2 cohort). The consistency of MMR IHC and MSI‐PCR in the ZS6Y‐1 cohort was 95.7% (1553/1622). Both pMMR&MSS and dMMR&MSS groups experienced significantly shorter overall survival (OS) than those in dMMR by IHC and MSI‐H by MSI‐PCR (dMMR&MSI‐H) group (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.429, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.89–3.116, p <.01; HR = 21.96, 95% CI: 7.24–66.61, p <.01). The dMMR&MSS group experienced shorter OS than the pMMR&MSS group, but the difference did not reach significance (log rank test, p =.0686). In the immunotherapy group, the progression‐free survival of dMMR&MSS patients was significantly shorter than that of dMMR&MSI‐H patients (HR = 13.83, 95% CI: 1.508–126.8, p <.05). The ZS6Y‐MSI‐Pre nomogram (C‐index = 0.816, 95% CI: 0.792–0.841, already online) found 66% (2/3) dMMR&MSS patients in the ZS6Y‐2 cohort. There are significant differences in OS and immunotherapy effect between dMMR&MSI‐H and dMMR&MSS patients. Our prediction model provides an economical way to screen dMMR&MSS patients. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification has recently emerged as an essential regulator of normal and malignant hematopoiesis. As a reversible epigenetic modification found in messenger RNAs and non-coding RNAs, m6A affects the fate of the modified RNA molecules. It is essential in most vital bioprocesses, contributing to cancer development. Here, we review the up-to-date knowledge of the pathological functions and underlying molecular mechanism of m6A modifications in normal hematopoiesis, leukemia pathogenesis, and drug response/resistance. At last, we discuss the critical role of m6A in immune response, the therapeutic potential of targeting m6A regulators, and the possible combination therapy for AML. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urban squares are the main place for older adults' daily activities. The spatial layout of the urban square is not only related to the construction of a healthy city and the equitable distribution of public resources, but also of great significance in enhancing the sense of gain, security, and happiness of older adults. This essay takes "health needs of older adults" as the perspective, and constructs a multi-dimensional evaluation index system of urban square space for elderly suitability in terms of physiological, psychological, and social health. It also takes six urban squares in Yiyang city center as an example and analyzes and evaluates them using GIS network analysis and the entropy weight method. The results of the study show that (1) Yiyang city center squares show the distribution characteristics of "dense in the middle and scattered around", and the spatial distribution is not balanced, which leads to a small service area. (2) The overall intervention value of urban square space is mainly distributed between 0.291 and 0.710, with an average value of 0.481, and the overall intervention effect of the square is good. The reasons for differences in health interventions for older adults in urban square spaces centered on six aspects: the quality of the square space, the variety and convenience of travel lines, the tidiness of the environment, physical activities, safety, and social interaction. Based on this, this essay proposes three optimization strategies for the renewal of urban squares, the construction of characteristic squares, and the reconstruction of the urban square space system. The aim is to provide a reference for the future design and renewal of the elderly suitability of urban squares, so as to promote the construction of a healthy city. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
