Methylammonium chloride (MACl) additive is almost irreplaceable in high‐performance formamidine perovskite photovoltaics. Nevertheless, Some of the problems that can arise from adding MACl are rarely mentioned. Herein, it is proposed for the first time that the addition of MACl would cause the non‐stoichiometric ratio in the perovskite film, resulting in the halogen vacancy. It is demonstrated that the non‐synchronous volatilization of methylamine cations and chloride ions leads to the formation of halogen vacancy defects. To solve this problem, the NH4HCOO is introduced into the perovskite precursor solution to passivate the halogen vacancy. The HCOO− ions have a strong force with lead ions and can fill the halogen vacancy defects. Consequently, the champion devices' power conversion efficiency (PCE) can be improved from 21.23% to 23.72% with negligible hysteresis. And the unencapsulated device can still retain >90% of the initial PCE even operating in N2 atmosphere for over 1200 h. This work illustrates another halogen defect source in the MACl‐assisted formamidine perovskite photovoltaics and provides a new route to obtain high‐performance perovskite solar cells. BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that fungicides have insecticidal activity that can potentially be used as an insecticide resistance management strategy in the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens (Stål). However, the mechanism that induces mortality of N. lugens remains elusive. RESULTS: In the present study, the insecticidal activities of 14 fungicides against N. lugens were determined, of which tebuconazole had the highest insecticidal activity compared with the other fungicides. Furthermore, tebuconazole significantly inhibited the expression of the chitin synthase gene NlCHS1; the chitinase genes NlCht1, NlCht5, NlCht7, NlCht9, and NlCht10; and the β‐N‐acetylhexosaminidase genes NlHex3, NlHex4, NlHex5 and NlHex6; it significantly suppressed the expression of ecdysteroid biosynthetic genes as well, including SDR, CYP307A2, CYP307B1, CYP306A2, CYP302A1, CYP315A1 and CYP314A1 of N. lugens. Additionally, tebuconazole affected the diversity, structure, composition, and function of the symbiotic fungi of N. lugens, as well as the relative abundance of saprophytes and pathogens, suggesting that tebuconazole reshapes the diversity and function of symbiotic fungi of N. lugens. CONCLUSION: Our findings illustrate the insecticidal mechanism of tebuconazole, possibly by inhibiting normal molting or disrupting microbial homeostasis in N. lugens, and provide an important rationale for developing novel insect management strategies to delay escalating insecticide resistance. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry. The references about pulsed 1.6‐μm single‐longitudinal‐mode laser, continuous wave 1.6‐μm Er: YAG single‐longitudinal‐mode seed laser, and pulsed 1.6‐μm Er: YAG Q‐switched amplifier are collected and analyzed. Green macroalgae bloom (GMB), with the dominant species of Ulva prolifera, has regularly occurred since 2007 along the China coast. Although disaster prevention and control achieved favorable results in 2020, the satellite-observed GMB annual maximum coverage (AMC) rebounded sharply in 2021 to an unprecedented level. The reasons for this rebound and the significant interannual variability over past 15 years are still open questions. Here, by using long-term time-series (2007–2022) optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite observations (1000+ scenes), meteorological data and water quality statistics, the mechanism analysis was performed by exploring effects from natural factors and human activities. Two key determinants for AMC are successfully identified from numerous potential factors which are the macroalgae distribution in a key area (the Subei Shoal) during a critical period (from April to May 20) and the nutrient availability. Furthermore, by using these two parameters, a novel model for AMC prediction (R2 = 0.87, p < 0.01) is proposed and independently validated, which can reasonably explain the significant interannual variability (2014–2021) and agree well with the latest observation in 2022 (percentage difference 12%). Maleic acid (MA) has been studied to replace formaldehyde-based crosslinking agents for antiwrinkle treatment of cotton fabrics for many years. However, the resilience of cotton fabrics treated by MA is not acceptable. In this study, a novel poly-carboxylic acid of ethyldimercaptan disuccinic acid (EDMDSA) was synthesized by MA and 1,2-Dimercaptoethane (DME) via click reaction and then applied on antiwrinkle finishing of cotton fabrics. The chemical structure of EDMDSA was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectra. The results indicated that the recommended antiwrinkle finishing conditions were 0.3 mol L−1 EDMDSA with equal molar ratio of sodium hypophosphite, curing temperature of 170 °C and curing time of 90 s. After treating, the wrinkle recovery angle of cotton fabrics finished by EDMDSA increased from 137.2° of untreated fabrics to 251.3°, which was significantly higher than 216° of those treated by MA. Besides, due to more flexible structure of EDMDSA, the finished cotton fabrics have slightly weaker antiwrinkle performance but higher strength retention than those treated by 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid. Facile synthesis and purification of EDMDSA as well as their excellent crosslinking and durability performance indicate they have a potential industrial-scale application in the field of non-formaldehyde anti-wrinkle treatment. The perovskite photovoltaic field has developed rapidly within a decade. In particular, formamidinium (FA)‐rich perovskite allows a broad absorption spectrum, and is considered to be one of the most promising perovskite materials. Great progress has been achieved, and most recorded high‐efficient perovskite solar cells (PSCs) used the FA‐rich perovskite light absorption layer. However, the black α‐phase formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskite easily transforms into an undesirable δ‐phase at a low temperature. Thus, researchers have put a lot of effort into deeply understanding the phase transformation and stabilization mechanism of FA‐rich perovskite. Herein, the fundamental physical properties of FAPbI3 materials, including crystal structure, phase‐transition temperature, charge‐carrier dynamics, etc. are summarized, and establish a complete phase evolution with temperature by reviewing previous reports. The intrinsic and external factors are subsequently discussed for influencing the stability of FAPbI3 perovskite and the remarkable breakthroughs of FA‐rich PSCs in recent years are reviewed. Moreover, a series of strategies to stabilize FA‐rich perovskite is summarized, including but not limited to compositional engineering, passivating engineering, processing engineering, and strain engineering. Finally, several new viewpoints are provided for improving the efficiency and stability of PSCs. Summary: Identifying genic male‐sterility (GMS) genes and elucidating their roles are important to unveil plant male reproduction and promote their application in crop breeding. However, compared with Arabidopsis and rice, relatively fewer maize GMS genes have been discovered and little is known about their regulatory pathways underlying anther and pollen development. Here, by sequencing and analysing anther transcriptomes at 11 developmental stages in maize B73, Zheng58 and M6007 inbred lines, 1100 transcription factor (TF) genes were identified to be stably differentially expressed among different developmental stages. Among them, 14 maize TF genes (9 types belonging to five TF families) were selected and performed CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated gene mutagenesis, and then, 12 genes in eight types, including ZmbHLH51, ZmbHLH122, ZmTGA9‐1/‐2/‐3, ZmTGA10, ZmMYB84, ZmMYB33‐1/‐2, ZmPHD11 and ZmLBD10/27, were identified as maize new GMS genes by using DNA sequencing, phenotypic and cytological analyses. Notably, ZmTGA9‐1/‐2/‐3 triple‐gene mutants and ZmMYB33‐1/‐2 double‐gene mutants displayed complete male sterility, but their double‐ or single‐gene mutants showed male fertility. Similarly, ZmLBD10/27 double‐gene mutant displayed partial male sterility with 32.18% of aborted pollen grains. In addition, ZmbHLH51 was transcriptionally activated by ZmbHLH122 and their proteins were physically interacted. Molecular markers co‐segregating with these GMS mutations were developed to facilitate their application in maize breeding. Finally, all 14‐type maize GMS TF genes identified here and reported previously were compared on functional conservation and diversification among maize, rice and Arabidopsis. The aberrant expression of SPANXA1/A2 (sperm protein associated with the nucleus on the X-chromosome, family members A1/A2) has been observed in multi types of cancers. However, the roles of SPANXA1/A2 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remain largely unknown. The expression of SPANXA1/A2 was evaluated via analyzing UCSC XENA and GEO databases. To dissect the underlying cause of silencing SPANXA1/A2-mediated suppression, cell migration and invasion were detected in SPANXA1/A2 manipulated cell lines. Western blot was performed to evaluate EMT-related factors. The methylation microarray data of SPANXA1/A2 in HNSCC from the UCSC XENA database were used to identify whether aberrant overexpressed SPANXA1/A2 is induced by aberrant DNA methylation. SPANXA1/A2 was highly expressed in tumor tissues and associated with poor survival of patients with HNSCC. Knockdown of SPANXA1/A2 inhibited migration and invasion abilities in both Cal-27 and SCC-9 cells through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) suppression. The SPANXA1/A2 expression negatively related to its DNA methylation level. SPANXA1/A2 DNA hypomethylation was associated with metastatic stage and poor survival of patients with HNSCC. A dose-dependent increase of SPANXA1/A2 mRNA was observed in both cal-27 and SCC-9 cells after treatment with 5-AZA-2'-deoxycytidine (5-AZA-CdR). We demonstrated that knockdown of SPANXA1/A2 obviously inhibited tumor cell migration and invasion through EMT suppression. DNA hypomethylation might be responsible for the aberrant SPANXA1/A2 overexpressing. SPANXA1/A2 may be used as a diagnosed and independent prognosis indicator of HNSCC, and knockdown of SPANXA1/A2 may present a new gene-based therapy for HNSCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reconstruction of neuronal morphology from images involves mainly the extraction of neuronal skeleton points. It is an indispensable step in the quantitative analysis of neurons. Due to the complex morphology of neurons, many widely used tracing methods have difficulties in accurately acquiring skeleton points near branch points or in structures with tortuosity. Here, we propose two models to solve these problems. One is based on an L1-norm minimization model, which can better identify tortuous structure, namely, a local structure with large curvature skeleton points; the other detects an optimized branch point by considering the combination patterns of all neurites that link to this point. We combined these two models to achieve optimized skeleton detection for a neuron. We validate our models in various datasets including MOST and BigNeuron. In addition, we demonstrate that our method can optimize the traced skeletons from large-scale images. These characteristics of our approach indicate that it can reduce manual editing of traced skeletons and help to accelerate the accurate reconstruction of neuronal morphology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A carbonaceous solid acid catalyst with high strong-acid density was synthesized by facile functionalization of a biomass-derived mesoporous carbon with benzenesulfonic acid. The catalyst was characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and N2 adsorption-desorption. The carbonaceous solid catalyst containing Brønsted acid sites was used for the production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from hexoses such as fructose, glucose, and cellulose in γ-valerolactone (GVL)-H2O mixture. By reaction at 130 °C for 20 min using fructose as a feedstock, an HMF yield 78.1% was achieved. The catalytic performance of the catalyst in conversion of fructose into HMF hardly changed over seven cycles, demonstrating that the catalyst had excellent recyclability. The yields of HMF derived from glucose and cellulose reached 33.2 and 22.5%, respectively, whereas those of total furans were 42.1 and 33.7%, respectively. The proposed reaction system was promising in transforming biomass-based carbohydrates into fine chemicals, given the use of green functionalization methods, the utilization of sustainable biomass-derived carbon precursor and solvents, catalyst with high acid density, and the availability of high HMF yield. Abstract: The Khorat Plateau on the Indochina Terrane is known to have formed during the closure of the Tethys Ocean, although the origin of its potash mineral deposits is a topic of current debate. Data from a borehole on Savannakhet Basin is used in this study to re‐define the evaporation processes of the study area. Geochemical analyses of halite from various borehole‐derived evaporite strata have elucidated the fluid sources from which these ores formed. Measured δ11B indicated that ore deposits formed primarily due to evaporation of seawater, although non‐marine fluids affected the later stages of the evaporation process. Fluctuations in B and Br concentrations in carnallite‐ and sylvite‐rich strata indicate the influence of fresh water. Boron concentration in carnallite unit indicated the influence of hydrothermal fluids. From the relative timings of these various fluid influxes, the evolution of these evaporates can be divided into four stages: (1) an initial marine evaporation at the beginning of the deposit's formation, where seawater (and minor fresh water) trapped on the uplifted Khorat Plateau produced sediments and salts with Br contents lower than those of normal marine‐derived evaporites; (2) a transgression stage, where seawater recharged the basin; (3) a hydrothermal infiltration stage, which was coeval with the late Yanshan movement; and (4) a stage of fresh water supply, as recorded by fluctuations in B and Br contents, inferring intermittent fresh water influx into the basin. Thus, although evaporites on the Savannakhet Basin primarily formed via marine evaporation, they were also influenced to a significant degree by the addition of non–marine fresh water and hydrothermal fluids. Due to the extremely arid climate in the western Qaidam Basin, the groundwater almost becomes the single water source for local residents and industrial production. It is necessary to know the reliable information on the groundwater cycle in this region for reasonable and sustainable exploitation of the groundwater resources with the further execution of recycling economy policies. This study focused on the recharge, the flow rate and the discharge of groundwater in the western Qaidam Basin through investigations on water chemistry and isotopes. Hydrological, chemical and isotopic characteristics show that the groundwater in the western Qaidam Basin was recharged by meltwater from new surface snow and old bottom glaciers on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains. In addition, the results also prove that the source water is enough and stable, and the rates of the circulation and renewal of the groundwater are relatively quick. Therefore, it can be concluded that the groundwater resources would guarantee the regional requirement if the meltwater volume of the mountains has not a great changes in future, moreover, water exploitation should be limited to the renewable amount of the groundwater reservoir in the western Qaidam Basin. The ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily is one of the largest groups of proteins and plays a non-negligible role in phase III of the detoxification process, which is highly involved in the response of insects to environmental stress (plant secondary metabolites and insecticides). In the present study, in Nilaparvata lugens, we identified 32 ABC transporters, which are grouped into eight subfamilies (ABCA–H) based on phylogenetic analysis. The temporal and spatial expression profiles suggested that the nymphal stages (1st–5th) and adult males showed similarity, which was different from eggs and adult females, and NlABCA1, NlABCA2, NlABCB6, NlABCD2, NlABCG4, NlABCG12, NlABCG15, and NlABCH1 were highly expressed in the midgut and Malpighian tubules. In addition, ABCG12, which belongs to the ABC transporter G subfamily, was significantly upregulated after exposure to sulfoxaflor, nitenpyram, clothianidin, etofenprox, chlorpyrifos, and isoprocarb. Moreover, verapamil significantly increased the sensitivity of N. lugens to nitenpyram, clothianidin, etofenprox, chlorpyrifos, and isoprocarb. These results provide a basis for further research on ABC transporters involved in detoxification in N. lugens, and for a more comprehensive understanding of the response of N. lugens to environmental stress. Background: Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) is a protozoan parasite that causes trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted disease, worldwide. In this study, we investigated the prevalence and genetic characterization of T. vaginalis and contrasted the most prevalent strains of T. vaginalis isolated from Xinxiang City, Henan Province, China. Results: In Xinxiang from September 2015 to September 2017, a total of 267 (1.64%, 95% confidence interval, CI: 1.45–1.85) clinical T. vaginalis-positive samples from vaginal secretions were observed by wet mount microscopy from 16,294 women with some clinical symptoms of trichomoniasis. We found that trichomoniasis frequently occurred in the 21- to 40-year-old age group and in winter. After the 267 clinical T. vaginalis positive samples were cultured, 68 isolates of T. vaginalis were harvested and identified as genotype E (58.82%), H (17.65%), mixed 1 (17.65%) and mixed 2 (5.88%) using a sensitive and reliable polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) typing method on the actin gene. The phylogenetic diversity analysis showed that the genotype E samples fell within a separate clade compared to the other T. vaginalis isolates, while the samples of the genotype H separated into two clades. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate a notable gene polymorphism of clinical isolates from the targeted population and provide insight into the performance of these genetic markers in the molecular epidemiology of trichomoniasis.
