Traditionally, marriage is a near universality in China. However, in the coming decades, owing to the growing sex imbalance, millions of men will be unable to marry. As a consequence, bachelorhood is becoming a new demographic concern, particularly affecting men from the most disadvantaged socio-economic groups. In China's cultural context today, heterosexual marriage remains a prerequisite for family formation and, in rural society particularly, the legitimate setting for sexual activity. Under such circumstances, bachelorhood is likely to produce privations on various fronts, the consequences of which for both the individual and the community are still largely unknown. This article focuses on the opinions and sexual behaviour of bachelors, and highlights significant variations from those of married men. It is based on the findings of an exploratory survey conducted in 2008 in selected villages in a rural county in Anhui province, referred to here as JC county. The survey provides insights into the more general situation of rural men unable to marry in a context of female shortage, and indicates the conditions a growing number of Chinese men will face in the near future.

Galvanized steel pipes with screw thread connections are widely used in indoor gas transportation. In contrast with the failure of pipe tubes, leakage in this system is prone to occur in the screw thread connections. Aiming at this specific engineering application, a method based on acoustic emission (AE) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) is proposed to detect small gas leaks. Experiments are conducted on a specifically designed galvanized steel pipe system with the manipulated leak occurring in the screw thread connection to acquire the raw AE data. The features in the time and frequency domains are extracted and selected to establish an ANN model for leak detection. It has been validated that the developed ANN-based leak detector can achieve an identification accuracy of over 98%. It is also verified that the proposed model is effective even when the AE signals due to a small leak pass over two screw thread connections or an elbow connection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper reports the application of plasma chemical vapour deposition (PCVD) of TiN to high speed steel precision bearings. The surface metallurgical characteristics of the coatings were determined by employing surface and structural analytical techniques, i.e. scanning electron microscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The layer adhesion of the coatings was evaluated by means of the scratch test. Experiments on oxidation and thermal shock resistance were also carried out. The results demonstrated good adhesion between TiN coating and high speed steel substrate. Test results showed that using PCVD, uniform coatings can be achieved having good oxidation resistance in air and good thermal shock resistance between 580°C and room temperature. The tests showed that bearings coated with PCVD TiN worked normally and satisfied the working conditions.

From e(+)e(-) collision data acquired with the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we observe the non-D (D) over bar decay psi(3770)->gamma chi(c1) with a statistical significance of 6.6 standard deviations, using the two-photon cascades to J/psi and J/psi ->center dot(+)center dot(-). We determine sigma(e(+)e(-)->psi(3770))xB(psi(3770)->gamma chi(c1))=(18.0 +/- 3.3 +/- 2.5) pb and branching fraction B(psi(3770)->gamma chi(c1))=(2.8 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.4)x10(-3). We set 90% C.L. upper limits for the transition to chi(c2) (chi(c0)): sigma xB < 5.7 pb (< 282 pb) and B < 0.9x10(-3) (< 44x10(-3)). We also determine Gamma(psi(3770)->gamma chi(c1))/Gamma(psi(3770)->pi(+)pi(-)J/psi)=1.5 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.3 (> 1.0 at 90% C.L.), which bears upon the interpretation of X(3872).

We describe a search for psi(3770) decay to two-body non-D (D) over bar final states in e(+)e(-) data produced by the CESR collider and analyzed with the CLEO-c detector. Vector-pseudoscalar production rho(0)pi(0), rho(+)pi(-), omega pi(0), phi pi(0), rho eta, omega eta, phi eta, rho eta', omega eta', phi eta', K-*0(K-0) over bar, and K*K-+(-) is studied along with that of b(1)pi (b(1)(0)pi(0) and b(1)(+)pi(-)) and pi(+)pi(-)pi(0). The largest amount of disagreement between the expected rate for e(+)e(-)->gamma*-> X and that for e(+)e(-)-> X at root s = 3.773 GeV is found for X = phi eta, at an excess cross section of (2.4 +/- 0.6) pb [Gamma(phi eta)(psi(3770))=(7.4 +/- 1.6) keV], and a suggestive suppression is seen for pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and rho pi. We conclude with form factor determinations for omega pi(0), rho eta, and rho eta(').

Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have observed the B-s meson in e(+)e(-) annihilation at the Upsilon(5S) resonance. We find 14 candidates consistent with B-s decays into final states with a J/psi or a D-s(()*()-). The probability that we have observed a background fluctuation is less than 8x10(-10). We have established that at the energy of the Upsilon(5S) resonance B-s production proceeds predominantly through the creation of B-s*($) over bar (s)* pairs. We find sigma(e(+)e(-)-> B-s* (B) over bar (s)*)=[0.11(-0.03)(+0.04)(stat)+/- 0.02(syst)] nb, and set the following limits: sigma(e(+)e(-)-> B-s (B) over bar (s))/sigma(e(+)e(-)-> B-s*(B) over bar (s)*)< 0.16 and [sigma(e(+)e(-)-> B-s(B) over bar (s)*)+sigma(e(+)e(-)-> B-s*(B) over bar (s))]/sigma(e(+)e(-)-> B-s*(B) over bar (s)*)< 0.16 (90% C.L.). The mass of the B-s(*) meson is measured to be M-Bs*=[5.414 +/- 0.001(stat)+/- 0.003(syst)] GeV/c(2).

We have searched for the di-pion transition chi(b)(2P) -> pi pi chi(b)(1P) in the CLEO III sample of Upsilon(3S) decays in the exclusive decay chain: Upsilon(3S) -> gamma chi(b)(2P), chi(b)(2P) -> pi pi chi(b)(1P), chi(b)(1P) -> gamma Upsilon(1S), Upsilon(1S) -> l(+)l(-). Our studies include both pi(+)pi(-) and pi(0)pi(0), each analyzed both in fully-reconstructed events and in events with one pion undetected. We show that the null hypothesis is not substantiated. Under reasonable assumptions, we find the partial decay width to be Gamma(chi(b)(2P) -> pi pi chi(b)(1P)) = (0.83 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.19) keV, with the uncertainties being statistical, internal CLEO systematics, and common systematics from outside sources.

Using data taken with the CLEO III detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have investigated the direct photon spectrum in the decays Upsilon(1S)->gamma gg, Upsilon(2S)->gamma gg, Upsilon(3S)->gamma gg. The latter two of these are first measurements. Our analysis procedures differ from previous ones in the following ways: (a) background estimates (primarily from pi(0) decays) are based on isospin symmetry rather than a determination of the pi(0) spectrum, which permits measurement of the Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S) direct photon spectra without explicit corrections for pi(0) backgrounds from, e.g., chi(bJ) states, (b) we estimate the branching fractions with a parametrized functional form (exponential) used for the background, and c) we use the high-statistics sample of Upsilon(2S)->pi pi Upsilon(1S) to obtain a tagged sample of Upsilon(1S)->gamma+X events, for which there are no QED backgrounds. We determine values for the ratio of the inclusive direct photon decay rate to that of the dominant three-gluon decay Upsilon -> ggg (R-gamma=B(gg gamma)/B(ggg)) to be R-gamma(1S)=(2.70 +/- 0.01 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.24)%, R-gamma(2S)=(3.18 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.41)%, and R-gamma(3S)=(2.72 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.32 +/- 0.37)%, where the errors shown are statistical, systematic, and theoretical model dependent, respectively. Given a value of Q(2), one can estimate a value for the strong coupling constant alpha(s)(Q(2)) from R-gamma.

We observe signals for the decays psi(3770)-> XJ/psi from data acquired with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e(+)e(-) collider with root s=3773 MeV. We measure the following branching fractions B(psi(3770)-> XJ/psi) and significances: (189 +/- 20 +/- 20)x10(-5) (11.6 sigma) for X=pi(+)pi(-), (80 +/- 25 +/- 16)x10(-5) (3.4 sigma) for X=pi(0)pi(0), and (87 +/- 33 +/- 22)x10(-5) (3.5 sigma) for X=eta, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The radiative return process e(+)e(-)->gamma psi(2S) populates the same event sample and is used to measure Gamma(ee)[psi(2S)]=(2.54 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.11) keV.

The two-photon width of chi(c2)(P-3(2)) state of charmonium has been measured using 14.4 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) data taken at root s=9.46-11.30 GeV with the CLEO III detector. The gamma gamma-fusion reaction studied is e(+)e(-)-> e(+)e(-)gamma gamma, gamma gamma ->chi(c2)->gamma J/psi ->gamma e(+)e(-)(mu(+)mu(-)). We measure Gamma(gamma gamma)(chi(c2))B(chi(c2)->gamma J/psi)B(J/psi -> e(+)e(-)+mu(+)mu(-))=13.2 +/- 1.4(stat)+/- 1.1(syst) eV, and obtain Gamma(gamma gamma)(chi(c2))=559 +/- 57(stat)+/- 48(syst)+/- 36(br) eV. This result is in excellent agreement with the result of gamma gamma-fusion measurement by Belle and is consistent with that of the (p) over barp ->chi(c2)->gamma gamma measurement, when they are both reevaluated using the recent CLEO result for the radiative decay chi(c2)->gamma J/psi.

We use data collected by the CLEO III detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring to measure the inclusive yields of D-s mesons as B(Upsilon(5S)-> DsX)=(44.7 +/- 4.2 +/- 9.9)% and B(Upsilon(4S)-> DsX)=(18.1 +/- 0.5 +/- 2.8)%. From these measurements, we make a model dependent estimate of the ratio of B-s((*)) (B) over bar ((*))(s) to the total b (b) over bar quark pair production of (16.0 +/- 2.6 +/- 5.8)% at the Upsilon(5S) energy.

The h(c)(P-1(1)) state of charmonium has been observed in the reaction psi(2S)->pi(0)h(c)->(gamma gamma)(gamma eta(c)) using 3.08x10(6) psi(2S) decays recorded in the CLEO detector. Data have been analyzed both for the inclusive reaction, where the decay products of the eta(c) are not identified, and for exclusive reactions, in which eta(c) decays are reconstructed in seven hadronic decay channels. We find M(h(c))=3524.4 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.4 MeV which corresponds to a hyperfine splitting Delta M-hf(1P)equivalent to < M(P-3(J))>-M(P-1(1))=+1.0 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.4 MeV, and B(psi(2S)->pi(0)h(c))xB(h(c)->gamma eta(c))=(4.0 +/- 0.8 +/- 0.7)x10(-4).

cleo-ii detector - Abstract
Using 55.8 pb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collisions recorded at the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at CESR, we determine absolute hadronic branching fractions of charged and neutral D mesons using a double tag technique. Among measurements for three D-0 and six D+ modes, we obtain reference branching fractions B(D-0-> K(-)pi(+))=(3.91 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.09)% and B(D+-> K(-)pi(+)pi(+))=(9.5 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.3)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Final state radiation is included in these branching fractions by allowing for additional, unobserved, photons in the final state. Using a determination of the integrated luminosity, we also extract the cross sections sigma(e(+)e(-)-> D-0(D) over bar (0))=(3.60 +/- 0.07(-0.05)(+0.07)) nb and sigma(e(+)e(-) -> D+D-)=(2.79 +/- 0.07(-0.04)(+0.10)) nb.

The spin-singlet P-wave state of charmonium, h(c)(P-1(1)), has been observed in the decay psi(2S)->pi(0)h(c) followed by h(c)->gamma eta(c). Inclusive and exclusive analyses of the M(h(c)) spectrum have been performed. Two complementary inclusive analyses select either a range of energies for the photon emitted in h(c)->gamma eta(c) or a range of values of M(eta(c)). These analyses, consistent with one another within statistics, yield M(h(c))=[3524.9 +/- 0.7 (stat)+/- 0.4 (sys)] MeV/c(2) and a product of the branching ratios B-psi(psi(2S)->pi(0)h(c))xB(h)(h(c)->gamma eta(c))=[3.5 +/- 1.0 (stat)+/- 0.7 (sys)]x10(-4). When the eta(c) is reconstructed in seven exclusive decay modes, 17.5 +/- 4.5 h(c) events are seen with an average mass M(h(c))=[3523.6 +/- 0.9 (stat)+/- 0.5 (sys)] MeV/c(2), and BpsiBh=[5.3 +/- 1.5 (stat)+/- 1.0 (sys)]x10(-4). If combined, the inclusive and exclusive data samples yield an overall mass M(h(c))=[3524.4 +/- 0.6 (stat)+/- 0.4 (sys)] MeV/c(2) and product of branching ratios BpsiBh=[4.0 +/- 0.8 (stat)+/- 0.7 (sys)]x10(-4). The h(c) mass implies a P-wave hyperfine splitting Delta M-HF(1P)equivalent to < M(1(3)P)>-M(1(1)P(1))=[1.0 +/- 0.6 (stat)+/- 0.4 (sys)] MeV/c(2).

Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have studied the distribution of kinematic variables in the decay Lambda(c)(+)->Lambda e(+)nu(e). By performing a four-dimensional maximum likelihood fit, we determine the form factor ratio, R=f(2)/f(1)=-0.31 +/- 0.05(stat)+/- 0.04(syst), the pole mass, M-pole=[2.21 +/- 0.08(stat)+/- 0.14(syst)] GeV/c(2), and the decay asymmetry parameter of the Lambda(c)(+), alpha(Lambda c)=-0.86 +/- 0.03(stat)+/- 0.02(syst), for < q(2)>=0.67 (GeV/c(2))(2). We compare the angular distributions of the Lambda(c)(+) and (Lambda) over bar (-)(c) and find no evidence for CP violation: A(Lambda c)=(alpha(Lambda c)+alpha((Lambda) over barc))/(alpha(Lambda c)-alpha((Lambda) over barc))=0.00 +/- 0.03(stat)+/- 0.01(syst)+/- 0.02, where the third error is from the uncertainty in the world average of the CP-violating parameter, A(Lambda), for Lambda -> p pi(-).

We analyze 13.8 fb(-1) of the integrated e(+)e(-) luminosity collected at 10.6 GeV center-of-mass energy with the CLEO II and CLEO II.V detectors to study exclusive two-photon production of hadrons with masses below 1.7 GeV/c(2) decaying into the K(S)(0)K(+/-)pi(-/+) final state. We observe two statistically significant enhancements in the eta(1475) mass region. These enhancements have large transverse momentum which rules them out as being due to pseudoscalar resonances but is consistent with the production of axial-vector mesons. We use tagged two-photon events to study the properties of the observed enhancements and associate them with the production of f(1)(1285) and f(1)(1420). Our nonobservation of eta(1475) is inconsistent by more than 2 standard deviations with the first observation of this resonance in two-photon collisions by the L3 experiment. We present our estimates for 90% confidence level upper limits on the products of two-photon partial widths of light pseudoscalar hadrons and their branching fractions into K-S(0)(pi(+)pi(-))K(+/-)pi(-/+).

Using the CLEO-III detector at CESR we study e(+)e(-) collisions in the center-of-mass energy close to, or above, Lambda(b)(0)(&ULambda;) over bar (0)(b) production threshold. We search for evidence of Lambda(b)(0)(&ULambda;) over bar (0)(b) resonance production and set upper limits based on inclusive hadron production as a barometer of Lambda(b)(0)(&ULambda;) over bar (0)(b) production.

The rare tau lepton decays to four explicitly identified hadrons have been studied with the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring using (7.56 +/- 0.15) fb(-1) of data collected near root s=10.58 GeV. The first statistically significant measurements of B(tau(-)-> K(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)nu(tau),excludingK(0))=(7.4 +/- 0.8 +/- 1.1)x10(-4) and B(tau(-)-> K(-)K(+)pi(-)pi(0)nu(tau))=(5.5 +/- 1.4 +/- 1.2)x10(-5) are presented, including the first observation of the decay tau(-)-> K(-)omega nu(tau) with branching fraction, (4.1 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.7)x10(-4). We publish the first upper limit for B(tau(-)-> K(-)K(+)K(-)pi(0)nu(tau))< 4.8(6.1)x10(-6) at 90% (95%) confidence level. We measure for the first time the invariant mass distributions, which together with the branching fraction measurements are important ingredients that can be used to extract the standard model parameters, the strange quark mass, and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa element V-us.

We present measurements of the branching fractions for J/psi -> e(+)e(-) and mu(+)mu(-) using 3M psi(2S) decays collected with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain B(J/psi -> e(+)e(-))=(5.945 +/- 0.067 +/- 0.042)% and B(J/psi ->mu(+)mu(-))=(5.960 +/- 0.065 +/- 0.050)%, leading to an average of B(J/psi -> l(+)l(-))=(5.953 +/- 0.056 +/- 0.042)% and a ratio of B(J/psi -> e(+)e(-))/B(J/psi ->mu(+)mu(-))=(99.7 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.6)%, all consistent with, but more precise than, previous measurements.

Using the CLEO II.V detector observing e(+)e(-) collisions at around 10.6 GeV we search for neutral D mixing in semileptonic D-0 decays tagged in charged D* decays. Combining the results from the Ke nu and K*e nu channels we find that the rate for D mixing is less than 0.0078 at 90% C.L.

The resonant substructure in D-0-> K(S)(0)pi(+)pi(-) decays is described by a combination of ten quasi two-body intermediate states which include both CP-even and CP-odd eigenstates and one doubly Cabibbo suppressed channel. We present a formalism that connects the variation in D-0 decay time over the Dalitz plot with the mixing parameters, x and y, that describe off-shell and on-shell D-0-(D) over bar (0) mixing. We analyze the CLEO II.V data sample and find the parameters x and y are consistent with zero. We limit (-4.5 < x < 9.3)% and (-6.4 < y < 3.6)% at the 95% confidence level.

We have studied the inclusive photon spectra in Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S) decays using a large statistics data sample obtained with the CLEO III detector. We present the most precise measurements of electric dipole (E1) photon transition rates and photon energies for Upsilon(2S) --gammachi(bJ)(1P) and Upsilon(3S) --gammachi(bJ)(2P) (J = 0, 1, 2). We measure the rate for a rare E1 transition Upsilon(3S) --gammachi(b0)(1P) for the first time. We also set upper limits on the rates for the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transitions to the eta(b)(1S) and eta(b)(2S) states.

We have searched a sample of 9.6x10(6) B (B) over bar events for the lepton-flavor-violating leptonic B decays, B-0-->mu(+/-)tau(-/+) and B-0-->e(+/-)tau(-/+). The tau lepton was detected through the decay modes tau-->lnu(ν) over bar, where l=e,mu. There is no indication of a signal, and we obtain the 90% confidence level upper limits B(B-0-->mu(+/-)tau(-/+))e(+/-)tau(-/+))

We report on the observation of the eta(c)'(2(1)S(0)), the radial excitation of the eta(c)(1(1)S(0)) ground state of charmonium, in the two-photon fusion reaction gammagamma --> eta(c)' --> (KsK+/-)-K-0 pi(-/+) in 13.6 fb(-1) of CLEO II/ILV data and 13.1 fb(-1) of CLEO III data. We obtain M(eta(c)') = 3642.9 +/- 3.1 (stat) +/- 1.5(syst) MeV and M(eta(c)) = 2981.8 +/- 1.3(stat) +/- 1.5(syst) MeV. The corresponding values of hyperfine splittings between S-1(0) and S-3(1) states are DeltaM(hf)(1S) = 115.1 +/- 2.0 MeV and DeltaM(hf)(2S) = 43.1 +/- 3.4 MeV. Assuming that the eta(c) and eta(c)' have equal branching fractions to K(s)Kpi, we obtain Gamma(gammagamma)(eta(c)') = 1.3 +/- 0.6 keV.

We report a new measurement of the B-meson semileptonic decay momentum spectrum that has been made with a sample of 9.4 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Y(4S) resonance. Electrons from primary semileptonic decays and secondary charm decays were separated by using charge and angular correlations in Y(4S) events with a high-momentum lepton and an additional electron. We determined the semileptonic branching fraction to be B(B-->Xe(+)nu(e))=(10.91+/-0.09+/-0.24)% from the normalization of the electron-energy spectrum. We also measured the moments of the electron-energy spectrum with minimum energies from 0.6 to 1.5 GeV.

We have studied the inclusive photon spectrum in psi(2S) decays using the CLEO III detector. We present the most precise measurements of electric dipole (E1) photon transition rates for psi(2S)-->gammachi(cJ)(1P) (J=0,1,2). We also confirm the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transition, psi(2S)-->gammaeta(c)(1S). However, the direct M1 transition psi(2S)-->gammaeta(c)(2S) observed by the Crystal Ball as a narrow peak at a photon energy of 91 MeV is not found in our data.

We report on a search for CP violation in the decay of D-0 and D-0 to K(S)(0)pi(+)pi(-). The data come from an integrated luminosity of 9.0 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collisions at rootsapproximate to10 GeV recorded with the CLEO II.V detector. The resonance substructure of this decay is well described by ten quasi-two-body decay channels plus a small nonresonant component. We observe no evidence for CP violation in the amplitudes that describe the decay D-0-->K(S)(0)pi(+)pi(-).

Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron-positron Storage Ring, we have measured the scaled momentum spectra, dsigma/dx(p), and the inclusive production cross sections of the charm mesons D+, D-0, Dstar+, and D-star0 in e(+)e(-) annihilation at about 10.5 GeV center of mass energy, excluding the decay products of B mesons. The statistical accuracy and momentum resolution are superior to previous measurements at this energy.

We present the first study of the vector (Wess-Zumino) current in tau(-)-->K(-)pi(-)K(+)nu(tau) decay using data collected with the CLEO III detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We determine the quantitative contributions to the decay width from the vector and axial vector currents. Within the framework of a model by Kuhn and Mirkes, we identify the quantitative contributions to the total decay rate from the intermediate states omegapi, rho(('))pi, and (KK)-K-*.

Using data collected by the CLEO III detector at CESR, we report on measurements of Y(1S) decays to charmonium final states. The data sample used for this analysis consists of 21.2x10(6) Y(1S) decays, representing about 35 times more data than previous CLEO Y(1S) data samples. We present substantially improved measurements of the branching fraction B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+X) using J/psi-->mu(+)mu(-) and J/psi-->e(+)e(-) decays. The branching fractions for these two modes are averaged, thereby obtaining: B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+X)=(6.4+/-0.4(stat)+/-0.6(syst))x10(-4). A greatly improved measurement of the J/psi momentum distribution is presented and indicates a spectrum which is much softer than predicted by the color-octet model and somewhat softer than the color-singlet model. First measurements of the J/psi polarization and production angle are also presented. In addition, we report on the first observation of Y(1S)-->psi(2S)+X and evidence for Y(1S)-->chi(cJ)+X. Their branching fractions are measured relative to B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+X) and are found to be {[B(Y(1S)-->psi(2S)+X)]/[B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+ X)]}=0.41+/-0.11(stat)+/-0.08(syst), {[B(Y(1S)-->chi(c1)+X)]/[B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+X)]}=0.35+/- 0.08(stat)+/-0.06(syst), {[B(Y(1S)-->chi(c2)+X)]/[B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+X)]}=0.52+/-0.12(stat)+/-0.09(syst), and {[B(Y(1S)-->chi(c0)+X)]/[B(Y(1S)-->J/psi+X)]}

detector - Abstract
Using the CLEO III detector at CESR, we have measured the branching ratio of the decay Xi(c)(0)-->pK(-)K(-)pi(+) relative to Xi(c)(0)-->Xi(-)pi(+). We find B(Xi(c)(0)-->pK(-)K(-)pi(+))B(Xi(c)(0)-->Xi(-)pi(+))=0.35+/-0.06(stat)+/-0.03(syst). In the resonant substructure of this mode, we find evidence for Xi(c)(0) decays to pK(*)(892)K-0(-), and measure B(Xi(c)(0)-->pK(*)(892)K-0(-))xB(K-*(892)(0)-->K(-)pi(+))/B(Xi(c)(0)-->Xi(-)pi(+))=0.14+/-0.03(stat)+/-0.01(syst) and B(Xi(c)(0)-->pK(-)K(-)pi(+))/B(Xi(c)(0)-->Xi(-)pi(+))=0.21+/-0.04(stat)+/-0.02(syst) for the non-K-*(892)(0)Xi(c)(0)-->pK(-)K(-)pi(+) decays.

detector - Abstract
Using a 13.7 fb(-1) data sample collected with the CLEO II and II.V detectors, we report new branching fraction measurements for two Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes of the D+ meson: B(D+-->pi(+)pi(0))=(1.31+/-0.17+/-0.09+/-0.09)x10(-3) and B(D+-->K+(K) over bar (0))=(5.24+/-0.43+/-0.20+/-0.34)x10(-3) which are significant improvements over past measurements. The errors reflect statistical and systematical uncertainties as well as the uncertainty in the absolute D+ branching fraction scale. We also set the first 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode B(D+-->K(+)pi(0))

In 60 pb(-1) of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector, we find eight D+-->mu(+)nu decay candidates that are mostly signal, containing only one estimated background. Using this statistically compelling sample, we measure a value of B(D+-->mu(+)nu)=(3.5+/-1.4+/-0.6)x10(-4), and determine f(D)(+)=(202+/-41+/-17) MeV.

We present the first evidence for the production of Y(1D) states in the four-photon cascade, Y(3S)-->gammachi(b)(2P), chi(b)(2P)-->gammaY(1D), Y(1D)-->gammachi(b)(1P), chi(b)(1P)-->gammaY(1S), followed by the Y(1S) annihilation into e(+)e(-) or mu(+)mu(-). The signal has a significance of 10.2 standard deviations. The measured product branching ratio for these five decays, (2.5+/-0.5+/-0.5)x10(-5), is consistent with the theoretical estimates. The data are dominated by the production of one Y(1D) state consistent with the J=2 assignment. Its mass is determined to be (10161.1+/-0.6+/-1.6) MeV, which is consistent with the predictions from potential models and lattice QCD calculations. We also searched for Y(3S)-->gammachi(b)(2P), chi(b)(2P)-->gammaY(1D), followed by either Y(1D)-->etaY(1S) or Y(1D)-->pi(+)pi(-)Y(1S). We find no evidence for such decays and set upper limits on the product branching ratios.

We present a measurement of the composition of B meson inclusive semileptonic decays using 9.4 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) data taken with the CLEO detector at the Y(4S) resonance. In addition to measuring the charged lepton kinematics, the neutrino four-vector is inferred using the hermiticity of the detector. We perform a maximum likelihood fit over the full three-dimensional differential decay distribution for the fractional contributions from the B-->X(c)lnu processes with X-c=D, D-*, D-**, and nonresonant X-c, and the process B-->X(u)lnu. From the fit results we extract the first and second moments of the M-X(2) and q(2) distributions with minimum lepton-energy requirements of 1.0 GeV and 1.5 GeV. We find =(0.456+/-0.014+/-0.045+/-0.109) GeV2/c(4) with a minimum lepton energy of 1.0 GeV and =(0.293+/-0.012+/-0.033+/-0.048) GeV2/c(4) with minimum lepton energy of 1.5 GeV. The uncertainties are from statistics, detector systematic effects, and model dependence, respectively. As a test of the HQET and OPE calculations, the results for the M-X(2) moment as a function of the minimum lepton energy requirement are compared to the predictions.

We report on a search for a CP-violating asymmetry in the charmless hadronic decay B-->K*(892)(+/-)pi(-/+), using 9.1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced at roots = 10.58 GeV and collected with the CLEO detector. We find A(CP)(B-->K*(892)(+/-)pi(-/+)) = 0.26(-0.34)(+0.33)(stat)(-0.08)(+0.10)(syst), giving an allowed interval of [-0.31,0.78] at the 90% confidence level.

We report on determinations of \V-ub\ resulting from studies of the branching fraction and q(2) distributions in exclusive semileptonic B decays that proceed via the b-->u transition. Our data set consists of the 9.7x106B (B) over bar meson pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the CLEO II detector. We measure B(B-0-->pi(-)l(+)nu)=(1.33+/-0.18+/-0.11+/-0.01+/-0.07)x10(-4) and B(B-0-->rho(-)l(+)nu)=(2.17+/-0.34(-0.54)(+0.47)+/-0.41+/-0.01)x10(-4), where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, systematic due to residual form-factor uncertainties in the signal, and systematic due to residual form-factor uncertainties in the cross-feed modes, respectively. We also find B(B+-->etal(+)nu)=(0.84+/-0.31+/-0.16+/-0.09)x10(-4), consistent with what is expected from the B-->pilnu mode and quark model symmetries. We extract \V-ub\ using light-cone sum rules for 0less than or equal toq(2)
