In this study, a novel and systematic methodology for the design and optimization of conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (CB-CPW) based low pass filter (LPF) is proposed. The width of the signal trace is continuously varied using a truncated Fourier series, and the adjacent gaps are designed in several types established on a specific optimization setup to obtain predefined electrical characteristics with maximum compactness taking into account physical constraints. Trust-region-reflective algorithm (TRRA), genetic algorithm (GA), and particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) are taken into account to minimize the developed bound-constrained non-linear objective function respectively.All types are programmed and analytically verified in MATLAB. Solutions include design parameters such as the physical length and width of the structure, which will be drawn in AutoCAD later on. Also, the optimized layouts are exported to Ansys High Frequency Structure Simulation (HFSS) software for simulation and validation. Non-uniform CB-CPW LPFs are optimized and simulated over a frequency range of 0-6 GHz with a cutoff frequency of 2 GHz. Simulation results show a good agreement with the analytical ones.

The aquifuge stability is the key to study the impacts of coal mining on the aquifer. Based on the geological conditions of a mine in Yili of Xinjiang, China, this paper has studied the stability evolution laws of clay aquifuge during extremely thick coal seam mining by similar material simulation experiment in the laboratory. For the water-swelling and expansion property of clay aquifuge, the reasonable proportion of the similar material is firstly determined by taking the uniaxial compressive strength and the permeability coefficient as core indexes. Then, the overlying strata movement coupled solid–liquid physical model is established. In addition, the aquifuge deformation, the water level changes of the aquifer, and the height of fracture zone in overburden are analyzed during the slice mining. The research results indicate that the clay aquifuge will gradually occur instability failure during the mining of the working face, and the aquifuge stability has the threshold effects. When the ratio of the vertical displacement of the aquifuge to the thickness is Dv/T ≤ 58.0%, the ratio of the horizontal displacement to the thickness is Dh/T ≤ 17.0%, and the height of fractured zone in overburden is below the aquifuge, the mining-induced fractures may be closed and the aquifuge stability could be maintained. If Dv/T ≥ 75.0%, Dh/T ≥ 23.9%, and the height of fractured zone in overburden is within the aquifuge, the fractures will develop and connect the aquifuge and the stability failure of the aquifuge will occur, which has a direct correlation with the mining height.

Mudstone and shaly coarse sandstone samples of Jurassic units in northwestern China were collected to study the seepage mechanism of weakly cemented rock affected by underground mining operations. Samples were studied using seepage experiments under triaxial compression considering two processes: complete stress-strain and postpeak loading and unloading. The results show that permeability variations closely correspond to deviatoric stress-axial strain during the process of complete stress-strain. The initial permeability is 7 times its minimum, contrasting with lesser differentials of initial, peak, and residual permeability. The magnitude of permeability ranges from 10−17 to 10−19 m2, representing a stable water-resisting property, and is 1 to 2 orders lower in mudstone than that in shaly coarse sandstone, indicating that the water-resisting property of the mudstone is much better than that of the shaly coarse sandstone. Permeability is negatively correlated with the confining pressure. In response to this pressure, the permeability change in mudstone is faster than that in shaly coarse sandstone during the process of postpeak loading and unloading. Weakly cemented rock has lower permeability according to the comparison with congeneric ordinary rocks. This distinction is more remarkable in terms of the initial permeability. Analyses based on scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations and mineral composition indicate that the samples are rich in clay minerals such as montmorillonite and kaolin, whose inherent properties of hydroexpansiveness and hydrosliming can be considered the dominant factors contributing to the seepage properties of weakly cemented rock with low permeability.

Aquiclude plays a critical role in the occurrence of mining-induced roof water inrush in underground coal mines. This paper proposes an assessment index for the evaluation of aquiclude stability and a threshold value of water inrush from the roof, based on a case study of roof water inrush accidents in Cuimu coal mine, China. The relation between roof water inrush and water level variation in the aquifer, and the characteristics of aquiclude deformation, were studied in this assessment. Using the developed assessment criteria, the likelihood of roof water inrush was categorized into different risk levels, which were followed by a proposal for roof water inrush control measures. The main findings of this study are: a) in Cuimu coal mine, the waterbody in the bed separation between the upper aquifer and the aquiclude directly causes the inrush, and inrush occurs after the water level declines in the aquifer, b) tension-induced horizontal strains of aquiclude can be regarded as the index to evaluate the stability of aquiclude affected by underground coal mining&mdash, roof water inrush occurs when the maximum horizontal strain reaches a threshold of 10mm/m&mdash, c) based on the critical mining height for aquiclude instability, and the different thicknesses of barrier layers, high-risk zones are identified and inrush controls are proposed.

The efficiency of solving two-dimensional shallow-water equations (SWEs) is vital for simulation of large-scale flood inundation. For flood flows over real topography, local high-resolution method, which uses adaptable grids, is required in order to prevent the loss of accuracy of the flow pattern while saving computational cost. This paper introduces an adaptive grid model, which uses an adaptive criterion calculated on the basis of the water lever. The grid adaption is performed by manipulating subdivision levels of the computation grids. As the flow feature varies during the shallow wave propagation, the local grid density changes adaptively and the stored information of neighbor relationship updates correspondingly, achieving a balance between the model accuracy and running efficiency. In this work, a well-balanced (WB) scheme for solving SWEs is introduced. In reconstructions of Riemann state, the definition of the unique bottom elevation on grid interfaces is modified, and the numerical scheme is pre-balanced automatically. By the validation against two idealist test cases, the proposed model is applied to simulate flood inundation due to a dam-break of Zhanghe Reservoir, Hubei province, China. The results show that the presented model is robust and well-balanced, has nice computational efficiency and numerical stability, and thus has bright application prospects.
