Abstract

High-fat diet (HFD)-induced insulin resistance (IR) in skeletal muscle is often accompanied by mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. Boosting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) using nicotinamide riboside (NR) can effectively decrease oxidative stress and increase mitochondrial function. However, whether NR can ameliorate IR in skeletal muscle is still inconclusive. We fed male C57BL/6J mice with an HFD (60% fat) 400 mg/kgbw NR for 24 weeks. C2C12 myotube cells were treated with 0.25 mM palmitic acid (PA) 0.5 mM NR for 24 h. Indicators for IR and mitochondrial dysfunction were analyzed. NR treatment alleviated IR in HFD-fed mice with regard to improved glucose tolerance and a remarkable decrease in the levels of fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin and HOMA-IR index. NR-treated HFD-fed mice also showed improved metabolic status regarding a significant reduction in body weight and lipid contents in serum and the liver. NR activated AMPK in the skeletal muscle of HFD-fed mice and PA-treated C2C12 myotube cells and upregulated the expression of mitochondria-related transcriptional factors and coactivators, thereby improving mitochondrial function and alleviating oxidative stress. Upon inhibiting AMPK using Compound C, NR lost its ability in enhancing mitochondrial function and protection against IR induced by PA. As an adipokine, adipsin is closely related to metabolic-related diseases. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship among MAFLD, serum adipsin, and metabolic risk abnormalities.Methods: Our study was a cross-sectional study based on the first follow-up of the Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study (GNHS). A total of 908 patients with hepatic steatosis were involved in our study. Detailed data of patients were collected based upon questionnaire information, physical examination, and blood biochemical test.Results: Among the 908 patients, 789 patients were diagnosed with MAFLD. The levels of serum adipsin in the MAFLD group and non-MAFLD group were (3543.00 (3187.94– 3972.50) ng/mL) and (3095.33 (2778.71– 3354.77) ng/mL) (P < 0.001), respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, adipsin levels were found to be associated with MAFLD. The OR was 3.46 (95% CI: 1.57– 7.64) for adipsin when comparing subjects in the highest tertile with those in the lowest tertile. 141. Co3O4 Nanocubes for Degradation of Oxytetracycline in Wastewater via Peroxymonosulfate Activation.

Abstract

Despite significant progress being made in the development of cobaltosic oxide or modified cobaltosic oxide nanomaterials in the degradation of organic pollutants, to our knowledge, there are only very few available reports on the crystal facet effect of Co3O4 with different morphologies on peroxymonosulfate activation for oxytetracycline degradation. Herein, we first reported the synthesis of three kinds of Co3O4 nanocomposites with various morphologies, including nanocubes (Co3O4-c), octahedron (Co3O4-o), and truncated octahedron (Co3O4-t), for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in the degradation of oxytetracycline at 30 °C. The detailed physical characterizations illustrated that Co3O4-c, Co3O4-o, and Co3O4-t possessed a uniform morphology of nanocubes, octahedron, and truncated octahedron, with six {100} exposing facets, six {111} exposing facets, and a mixture of eight {111} and six {100} exposing facets, respectively. In particular, the optimal Co3O4 nanocubes (Co3O4-c) presented the highest catalytic reactivity in the activation of PMS for OTC degradation, with 82.8% degradation efficiency and 46.4% mineralization rate at 30 °C. The DFT results exhibited that the ΔEtotal of PMS on Co3O4 {100} exposing facets (−23.7 eV) was much lower than that of PMS on Co3O4 exposing {111} facets (−17.2 eV), indicating that PMS activation was more likely to occur at the Co3O4 {100} exposing facets, which was in good accordance with the above experimental conclusion. Overall, the explanation of the crystal facet effects on PMS activation proposes a research orientation for the synthesis of crystal engineering of heterogeneous catalysts on wastewater treatment. 146. 2.7 kV Low Leakage Vertical PtOx/β-Ga2O3 Schottky Barrier Diodes With Self-Aligned Mesa Termination

Abstract

In this study, we fabricated superb $\beta $ -Ga2O3 Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) with high breakdown voltage ( ${V}_{\text {br}}{)}$ and low leakage through combining platinum oxide (PtO $_{\text {x}}{)}$ and anodic self-aligned mesa termination (SAMT). The PtOx that forms a high barrier with $\beta $ -Ga2O3 enables the SAMT to function sufficiently. The in-situ annealing dry etch process repair the mesa sidewall and improve the Schottky contact well. SBDs with different mesa-etched depths ( ${D}_{\text {ee}}{)}$ were systematically studied, including 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, and $1.2~\mu \text{m}$ . The results showed that the ${V}_{\text {br}}$ of the PtOx/ $\beta $ -Ga2O3 SBD increased from 1120 V to 2738 V, yielding a high power figure of merit (PFOM) of 1.02 GW/cm2. Meanwhile, the device maintained a less than $10~\mu \text{A}$ /cm2 leakage current density until -2000 V. Devices with radii of 200, 100, and $50~\mu \text{m}$ obtained highest ${V}_{\text {br}}$ of 2508, 2772, and 2738 V at a ${D}_{\text {ee}}$ of $1.2~\mu \text{m}$ , respectively. The devices can be passivated by SU-8 without ${V}_{\text {br}}$ degradation. This work provides an effective method for further improving the performance of $\beta $ -Ga2O3 SBDs and promotes the application of $\beta $ -Ga2O3 power diodes.
