Simple Summary: In our study, we aimed to understand the role of non-coding RNA in egg production by analyzing the transcriptome of chickens. We collected tissues from both low-yielding and high-yielding Bian chickens, focusing on the hypothalamus, pituitary, and ovaries, which are key to reproduction. Using advanced sequencing technology, we identified circular RNAs that differed between high and low egg producers. Our results revealed that these circRNAs are involved in crucial processes like cell development, nervous system function, and protein regulation. We also discovered networks of RNA interactions that may influence egg production. These findings enhance our understanding of the genetic factors that control egg production, potentially leading to improved breeding strategies for better poultry production and health, benefiting farmers and consumers alike. The hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian (HPO) axis plays a pivotal role in the regulation of egg production in chickens. In addition to the traditional understanding of the HPO axis, emerging research highlights the significant role of circRNAs in modulating the functions of this axis. In the study, we collected hypothalamus, pituitary, and ovarian tissues from low-yielding and high-yielding Bian chickens for transcriptome sequencing. We identified 339, 339, and 287 differentially expressed (DE) circRNAs with p_value < 0.05 and |log2 (fold change)| ≥ 1 in hypothalamus, pituitary, and ovarian tissues. The Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis for the source genes of DE circRNAs has yielded multiple biological process (BP) entries related to cell development, the nervous system, and proteins, including cellular component morphogenesis, cell morphogenesis, nervous system development, neurogenesis, protein modification process, and protein metabolic process. In the top 30 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways, we observed the enrichment of the GnRH signaling pathway in both the hypothalamus and the pituitary, solely identified the GnRH secretion pathway in the pituitary, and discovered the pathway of oocyte meiosis in the ovary. Furthermore, given that circRNA primarily functions through the ceRNA mechanism, we constructed ceRNA regulatory networks with DE circRNAs originating from the GnRH signaling pathway, GnRH secretion, ovarian steroidogenesis, steroid hormone biosynthesis, and the estrogen signaling pathway. Finally, several important ceRNA regulatory networks related to reproduction were discovered, such as novel_circ_003662-gga-let-7b/miR-148a-3p/miR-146a-5p/miR-146b-5p and novel_circ_003538-gga-miR-7464-3p-SLC19A1. This study will contribute to advancements in understanding the involvement of circRNAs in the HPO axis, potentially leading to innovations in improving egg production and poultry health. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) presents an escalating global challenge as conventional antibiotic treatments become less effective. In response, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) have emerged as promising alternatives. While rooted in ancient practices, these methods have evolved with modern innovations, particularly through the integration of lasers, refining their efficacy. PDT harnesses photosensitizers to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are detrimental to microbial cells, whereas PTT relies on heat to induce cellular damage. The key to their effectiveness lies in the utilization of photosensitizers, especially when integrated into nano- or micron-scale supports, which amplify ROS production and enhance antimicrobial activity. Over the last decade, carbon dots (CDs) have emerged as a highly promising nanomaterial, attracting increasing attention owing to their distinctive properties and versatile applications, including PDT and PTT. They can not only function as photosensitizers, but also synergistically combine with other photosensitizers to enhance overall efficacy. One of the severe limitations of chemotherapy is the development of drug resistance. However, the mechanisms underlying chemotherapy resistance remain to be elucidated. Mitochondrial mediated apoptosis is a form of cell death induced by chemotherapy. Several chemotherapeutic agents have been shown to induce mitochondrial fission, and finally activate the apoptosis cascade in various cancer cells. Here, we report that the mitochondrial membrane protein 18 (MTP18) induced mitochondrial fragmentation in gastric cancer cells under doxorubicin (DOX) exposure. Upon over-expression of MTP18, a sub-cytotoxic dose of DOX could sensitize a significant number of cells to undergo mitochondrial fission and subsequent apoptosis. These findings suggest that MTP18 can enhance the sensitivity of gastric cancer cells to DOX. Mechanistically, we found that MTP18 enriched dynamic-related protein 1 (DRP1) accumulation in mitochondria and it was responsible for mediating DOX-induced signaling required for mitochondrial fission. Intriguingly, MTP18 expression was downregulated during DOX treatment. Thus, down-regulation of MTP18 expression could be one of the resistance factors interfering with DOX-induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.

Crop diseases significantly impact crop yields, and promoting specialized control of crop diseases is crucial for ensuring agricultural production stability. Disease identification primarily relies on human visual inspection, which is inefficient, inaccurate, and subjective. This study focused on the plum red spot (Polystigma rubrum), proposing a two-stage detection algorithm based on deep learning and assessing the severity of the disease through lesion coverage rate. The specific contributions are as follows: We utilized the object detection model YOLOv8 to strip leaves to eliminate the influence of complex backgrounds. We used an improved U-Net network to segment leaves and lesions. We combined Dice Loss with Focal Loss to address the poor training performance due to the pixel ratio imbalance between leaves and disease spots. For inconsistencies in the size and shape of leaves and lesions, we utilized ODConv and MSCA so that the model could focus on features at different scales. After verification, the accuracy rate of leaf recognition is 95.3%, and the mIoU, mPA, mPrecision, and mRecall of the leaf disease segmentation model are 90.93%, 95.21%, 95.17%, and 95.21%, respectively. In many studies, the properties of BiFeO3–BaTiO3 (BF–BT) ceramics vary greatly using different raw reagents, which makes it challenging to obtain reliable and repeatable properties of BF–BT‐based devices. In this work, 0.7BiFeO3–0.3BaTiO3 (0.7BF–0.3BT) ceramics were fabricated by a conventional solid‐phase synthesis using TiO2 reagents with varied purities of 98%, 99%, 99.9%, and 99.99%, respectively. The phase structure, microstructure, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties were comprehensively studied. All compositions of the ceramics exhibit a pseudo‐cubic phase perovskite structure, and the fraction of the rhombohedral phase increases with increasing the TiO2 purity. Additionally, backscattered electron images and energy‐dispersive spectroscopy revealed an obvious core–shell structure within grains. In particular, the 0.7BF–0.3BT ceramics prepared with 98% purity TiO2 exhibited superior ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties, d33 ∼ 220 pC/N and d33∗$d_{{\mathrm{33}}}^{\;*}$ ∼ 230 pm/V. The ceramics prepared with higher purity TiO2 suffered from severe leakage conduction, which can be well addressed by adding excess TiO2. Our work reveals the importance of different grades of purity TiO2 on the electrical properties of BF–BT ceramics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
