107. The effect of heel height on the Achilles tendon and muscle activity in Latin dancers during a special-landing task

Abstract

Latin shoes are considered an essential part of Latin dance, but wearing the shoes may contribute to dance injuries. The primary purpose of this article was to compare the biomechanics and muscle activity differences between 7.5 cm heel-height Latin shoes and 5.5 cm Latin shoes based on the bounce step during Jive performance. One-dimensional statistical parametric mapping (SPM1D) was used to analyse the data. 7.5 cm Latin shoes showed significantly greater peak dorsiflexion during the 4.56%-7.65%, as well as the VALR and peak vertical force significantly increased compared to 5.5 cm Latin shoes. These results suggest that a higher heel leads to a greater lower limb muscle activation in dancers and enhanced medial and lateral ankle muscle control. The lower extremity strength of dancers and the ability to control their limbs should be considered an essential element when reasonably raising Latin heels.

Abstract

Monoclinic BiVO4 photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method under appropriate temperature. The photocatalytic performance of BiVO4 was improved by calcining at appropriate temperature. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesized BiVO4 photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. It is confirmed that the photocatalytic activity of the prepared catalysts was evaluated by the photodegradation of RhB under visible-light irradiation. BiVO4 calcined under appropriate temperature exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than uncalcined BiVO4 under visible light irradiation because calcination might effectively increases the purity of monoclinic bismuth vanadate.

Abstract

The red long-lasting phosphors (LLPs) ZnxCa1–xTiO3:yPr3+ (ZCTP) were successfully prepared via the sol–gel method. The effects of Zn2+ content and Pr3+ molar concentration on the luminescent properties of ZCTP LLPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction, excitation and emission spectra, long-lasting decay curves and thermoluminescence (TL) curves. In this study, the results indicated that luminescent properties of Zn0.2Ca0.8TiO3:0.2 %Pr3+ phosphor was the best. In addition, when Pr3+ molar concentration reached 0.8 mol %, concentration quenching effect was obvious.

Abstract

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Gentiana delavayi Franch. (Gentianaceae) as an ethnomedicinal plant contains a variety of effective active ingredients and exhibits diverse pharmacological actions, such as hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory and central nervous system effects. In this study we investigated the influence of G. delavayi flower extract on amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing at molecular and cellular levels. APP/PS1 Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells were treated with chloroform extract of G. delavayi flower in different concentrations for 24 h. Concentrations of amyloid β (Aβ) 40 and Aβ42 in the cell supernatant and activity of β-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1), BACE2, and cathepsin D were determined. The expression of APP and neprilysin (NEP) within the cell were further determined. Compared with the control group, the levels of Aβ40 and Aβ42 declined notably and the activity of BACE1 was inhibited significantly in the APP/PS1 CHO cells after treatment with the chloroform extract of G. delavayi flower. Although the activities of BACE2 and cathepsin D were not changed, the expression of Aβ degrading enzyme NEP increased remarkably. Our experiments have clearly showed that the chloroform extract of G. delavayi flower inhibits the generation of β-amyloid by specifically inhibiting β-secretase and increases the expression of NEP which fastens the degradation of Aβ, exhibiting the effect of decreasing Aβ accumulation in APP/PS1 CHO cells. These results suggest that the active components from the chloroform extract of G. delavayi flower have a further prospect to be developed as potential anti-Aβ drug.

Abstract

In the search for a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the epoxidation of styrene, it is still a challenge to develop a system that simultaneously possesses superior catalytic activity and selectivity under aerobic conditions. Herein, we report the use of perovskite LaSrCoFeO6 (LSCF) as a heterogeneous and visible‐light catalyst, and determine that LSCF acts as a highly efficient catalyst for the epoxidation of styrene under aerobic conditions. The formation of 1O2 species transformed from O2⋅− species were proposed as reactive oxygen species for the epoxidation of styrene over the LSCF catalyst, where the directional generation of O2⋅− species on the LSCF catalyst is the key step to yield highly selective epoxidation of styrene. The experimental results of styrene epoxidation show that when the molar ratio of styrene and LSCF catalyst is 150 : 1 and the reaction is under the conditions of visible light (440 nm) and 100 °C for 6 h, the conversion of styrene and selectivity of styrene oxide reached 99.9 % and 80.3 %, respectively. The reaction rate over LSCF catalyst is as high as 50 mmol ⋅ gcat−1 ⋅ h−1. In addition, the reaction kinetics of the epoxidation of styrene over LSCF catalyst was systematically studied.
