Abstract

A locus specifying polyphosphate kinase (ppk) and a nonpredicted antisense RNA (iiv8) in Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf0-1 is required for optimal competitive fitness in LB broth culture and sterile loam soil. The results have shown a new role for polyphosphate in competitive fitness of Pseudomonas fluorescens in laboratory and soil environments.

The role of gene pairs, iiv19 and leuA2, in soil is examined. Findings reveal that the absence of the leuA2 gene resulted in a fitness advantage in the soil environment when leucine was supplied exogenously.
