BackgroundIn cave disposal environment, surrounding rock is the last barrier to prevent radionuclides from entering the environment, and the colloid of surrounding rock produced in the long-term disposal process increases the risk of radionuclides migration.PurposeThis study aims to explore the adsorption performance of surrounding rock colloid for Sr2+ disposed the repository, and the stability of surrounding rock colloid.MethodsFirst of all, the surrounding rock colloid sample was prepared with approximate mass concentration of 0.03 g·L-1, zeta potential of 21.53 mV and particle size of 205.7 nm. Then, the effects of time, pH value, various ions under different concentrations, and other factors on the adsorption properties, such as the zeta potential and average particle size of the surrounding rock colloids were investigated by experimental measurements. Finally, the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isothermal model were analyzed.ResultsExperimental results show that the colloid adsorption Sr2+ reaches equilibrium at 12 h, and the equilibrium adsorption capacity is 41.79 mg·g-1. In alkaline environment, the adsorption capacity increases with the increase of pH. The adsorption of Sr2+ by colloid of surrounding rock is inhibited by different ions, and the inhibitory effect of cations is greater than that of anions.ConclusionsResults of this study indicate that pH value, temperature and partial ions in the groundwater of the cave disposal facility all have influence on the stability of surrounding rock, and the surrounding rock colloid has good stability in the groundwater environment of the repository. The adsorption of Sr2+ by surrounding rock colloid conforms to the quasi-second-order kinetic model and the Freundlich adsorption isothermal model.

A liquid crystalline polymer (LCP), Vectra B950, reinforced polycarbonate (PC) 60 wt%/polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) 40 wt% blend was studied using the injection molding process. Morphology and mechanical properties of ternary in situ LCP composites were investigated and compared with binary polycarbonate/Veetra B950 LCP composites. Good in situ fibrillation of LCP was observed in the direct injection-molded LCP composites. Preliminary results of this work indicate that addition of PBT improves skin-core distribution of LCP microfibrils in the matrix and also enhances adhesion between the matrix and Vectra B950, which contains terephthalic acid. The PC/PBT/LCP ternary system also exhibits lower viscosity than the PC/PBT blend and pure LCP. In a ternary system with 30 wt% of Vectra B950, tensile modulus and strength increase approximately threefold and twofold, respectively. The rule of mixtures (ROM) for continuous reinforcement can accurately represent the strengthening effects for the ternary LCP in situ composites. Fire safety and thermal dissipation performance of epoxy resins thermosets were critical for its application in key fields such as electronic devices. The simultaneous improvement of flame retardant and thermal conductivity properties were still a challenge. Herein, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) was firstly encapsulated with 5‐wt% epoxy resins based on APP and then surface grafted with polyurethane polymer chain, and the resulting APP with core‐shell‐brush structure was constructed. Finally, the multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was assembled in the intervals of polymer brush on APP surface, and the prepared filler was defined as MF‐APP. Its chemical structure and morphologies were characterized and confirmed. The wettability of MF‐APP was evaluated by water contact angles tests (WCA) and MF‐APP exhibited hydrophobic property with the WCA of 138°. When 9‐wt% MF‐APP was incorporated into EP thermosets, the thermal conductive value of EP/MF‐APP achieved 1.02 Wm−1 K−1, and the MWCNTs concentration was only 1.8 wt% in thermosets. Compared with the previous work, the prepared EP/MF‐APP thermosets exhibited outstanding thermal conductive efficiency because of the homogeneously distribution of MWCNTs. Moreover, the samples fulfilled UL‐94 V‐0 grade during vertical burning tests with the limiting oxygen index of 30.8%. As a result, the thermal conductivity and flame retardancy of EP thermosets were simultaneously enhanced with a relatively low addition amount of MF‐APP, which would bring more chance for wider application of EP thermosets in key fields.
