In this paper we extend the classical Bohr's inequality to the setting of the non-commutative Hardy space H1 associated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra. As a consequence, we obtain Bohr's inequality for operators in the von Neumann-Schatten class C1 and square matrices of any finite order. Interestingly, we establish that the optimal bound for r in the above mentioned Bohr's inequality concerning von Neumann-Schatten class is 1/3 whereas it is 1/2 in the case of 2 × 2 matrices and reduces to √2−1 for the case of 3 × 3 matrices. We also obtain a generalization of our above-mentioned Bohr's inequality for finite matrices where we show that the optimal bound for r, unlike above, remains 1/3 for every fixed order n × n, n ≥ 2. Abstract Background Many databases housing the information about MHC binders and non-binders have been developed in the past to help the scientific community working in the field of immunology, immune-informatics or vaccine design. As the information about these MHC binding and non-binding peptides continues to grow with the time and there is a need to keep the databases updated. So, in order to provide the immunological fraternity with the most recent information we need to maintain and update our database regularly. In this paper, we describe the updated version of 4.0 of the database MHCBN. Findings MHCBN is a comprehensive database comprising over 25,857 peptide sequences (1053 TAP binding peptides), whose binding affinity with either MHC or TAP molecules has been assayed experimentally. It is a manually curated database where entries are collected & compiled from published literature and existing immunological public databases. MHCBN has a number of web-based tools for the analysis and retrieval of information like mapping of antigenic regions, creation of allele specific dataset, BLAST search, various diseases associated with MHC alleles etc. Further, all entries are hyper linked to major databases like SWISS-PROT, PDB etc. to provide the information beyond the scope of MHCBN. The latest version 4.0 of MHCBN has 6080 more entries than previously published version 1.1. Conclusion MHCBN database updating is meant to facilitate immunologist in understanding the immune system and provide them the latest information. We feel that our database will complement the existing databases in serving scientific community.

Abstract Background Recently in a number of studies, it has been demonstrated that the innate immune system doesn't merely acts as the first line of defense but provides critical signals for the development of specific adaptive immune response. Innate immune system employs a set of receptors called pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that recognize evolutionarily conserved patterns from pathogens called pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). In order to assist scientific community, a database PRRDB has been developed that provides extensive information about pattern recognition receptors and their ligands. Results The current version of database contains around 500 patterns recognizing receptors from 77 distinct organisms ranging from insects to human. This includes 177 Toll-like receptors, 124 are Scavenger receptors and 67 are Nucleotide Binding Site-Leucine repeats rich receptors. The database also provides information about 266 ligands that includes carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, glycolipids, glycoproteins, lipopeptides. A number of web tools have been integrated in PRRDB in order to provide following services: i) searching on any field; ii) database browsing; and iii) BLAST search against the pattern-recognition receptors. PRRDB also provides external links to standard databases like Swiss-Prot and Pubmed. Conclusion PRRDB is a unique database of its kind, which provides comprehensive information about innate immunity. This database will be very useful in designing effective adjuvant for subunit vaccine and in understanding role of innate immunity. Abstract Background Antibacterial peptides are important components of the innate immune system, used by the host to protect itself from different types of pathogenic bacteria. Over the last few decades, the search for new drugs and drug targets has prompted an interest in these antibacterial peptides. We analyzed 486 antibacterial peptides, obtained from antimicrobial peptide database APD, in order to understand the preference of amino acid residues at specific positions in these peptides. Results It was observed that certain types of residues are preferred over others in antibacterial peptides, particularly at the N and C terminus. These observations encouraged us to develop a method for predicting antibacterial peptides in proteins from their amino acid sequence. First, the N-terminal residues were used for predicting antibacterial peptides using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Quantitative Matrices (QM) and Support Vector Machine (SVM), which resulted in an accuracy of 83.63%, 84.78% and 87.85%, respectively. Then, the C-terminal residues were used for developing prediction methods, which resulted in an accuracy of 77.34%, 82.03% and 85.16% using ANN, QM and SVM, respectively. Finally, ANN, QM and SVM models were developed using N and C terminal residues, which achieved an accuracy of 88.17%, 90.37% and 92.11%, respectively. All the models developed in this study were evaluated using five-fold cross validation technique. These models were also tested on an independent or blind dataset. Conclusion Among antibacterial peptides, there is preference for certain residues at N and C termini, which helps to demarcate them from non-antibacterial peptides. Both the termini play a crucial role in imparting the antibacterial property to these peptides. Among the methods developed, SVM shows the best performance in predicting antibacterial peptides followed by QM and ANN, in that order. AntiBP (Antibacterial peptides) will help in discovering efficacious antibacterial peptides, which we hope will prove to be a boon to combat the dreadful antibiotic resistant bacteria. Backround: Serious infections due to methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have become a major clinical challenge. Globally Macrolide-lincosamide streptogramin B family of antibiotics are commonly used to treat such infections as an alternative to vancomycin. The study was to conducted to find out the presence of inducible clindamycin resistance among Staphylococcus aureus and their association with methicillin resistance. Method: The study conducted over one year (Jan 2016 - Dec 2016) in microbiology department of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot . Two hundred fifteen S.aureus isolates were included in the study. Methicillin resistance was detected by cefoxitin (30μg) disc diffusion method and inducible clindamycin resistance by erythromycin and clindamycin disc approximation test (D-Test). Results: Of the 215 clinical isolates of S.aureus, 140 (65.11%) were MRSA. Erythromycin and clindamycin resistance was seen in 79.06%(170/215) and 49.30% ( 106/215) respectively. Resistance to erythromycin and clindamycin were higher in MRSA than MSSA (erythromycin resistance:100%v s 22.5% and Clindamycin resistance:70.1% vs 10.6%). Both iMLSB and cMLSBphenotypes are predominant in MRSA. Conclusion: Detection of MRSA in our study shows the need to improve health care practices and to formulate new infection control policies to control MRSA infections. Inducible and constitutive resistance is comparatively higher in our study in MRSA .So It is necessary to perform D-test for detection of inducible clindamycin resistance among MRSA in routine antibiotic sensitivity testing so that therapeutic failures can be avoided.
