Abstract

The high-throughput experimental data from the new gene microarray technology has spurred numerous efforts to find effective ways of processing microarray data for revealing real biological relationships among genes. This work proposes an innovative data pre-processing approach to identify noise data in the data sets and eliminate or reduce the impact of the noise data on gene clustering, With the proposed algorithm, the pre-processed data sets make the clustering results stable across clustering algorithms with different similarity metrics, the important information of genes and features is kept, and the clustering quality is improved. The primary evaluation on real microarray data sets has shown the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract

Here we consider a single vehicle routing problem (of unlimited capacity) that visits different dealers. As it visits the first dealer, it offloads the demand of first dealer and moves on to second dealer 'lighter'. In this context we seek to minimize weight-distance of the entire tour. We give two formulations of the above. It results in a 'cubic' and 'quadratic' terms in the objective function with negative cost coefficients in one formulation and positive cost coefficients (of 'cubic' and 'quadratic' terms) in other formulation. We give a novel linearization scheme for the resulting two formulations. It will be interesting to see computational performance of the two formulations given in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we give a procedure to allow aggregate shortages in the context of LP approach to APP. We give two approaches to handle this. It will be worthwhile to explore which approach is better (equation (12) for handling shortages or equation (15)?). An experimental investigation is underway to establish the same. In the next part of the paper we give how to handle shortages in the LDR (Linear Decision Rule) model of APP. The concept of aggregate shortage also; and give two ways to handle the same in the context of LP approach to APP. Abstract

This study presents a neural network & web-based decision support system (DSS) for foreign exchange (forex) forecasting and trading decision, which is adaptable to the needs of financial organizations and individual investors. In this study, we integrate the back-propagation neural network (BPNN)- based forex rolling forecasting system to accurately predict the change in direction of daily exchange rates, and the Web-based forex trading decision support system to obtain forecasting data and provide some investment decision suggestions for financial practitioners. This research reveals the structure of the DSS by the description of an integrated framework, and meantime we find that the DSS is integrated, user-oriented by its implementation, and practical applications reveal that this DSS demonstrates very high forecasting accuracy and its trading recommendations are reliable. Abstract

Hydrazoic acid was shown to be an extremely reactive molecule and an effective precursor species for 'active nitrogen'. At room temperature, hydrazoic acid dissociatively chemisorbed on GaAs(110) surfaces to form the NH radical and N2. At 673 K, an anionic exchange mechanism commenced; the surface became completely depleted in As and a thin film of GaN formed. When the surface was dosed at 773 K, a 20 A thick GaN film was grown. This evidence demonstrates that hydrazoic acid is highly reactive at comparatively low surface temperatures and offers a viable alternative to ammonia as a nitrogen precursor. Experiments which involved growing GaN on sapphire and silicon using a supersonic beam of ammonia and an effusive triethylgallium beam, showed distinct trends in film morphology as a function of the ammonia nozzle and substrate temperature. Stoichiometric GaN films were deposited on Al2O3(0001), Si(001) and Si(111) substrates. Very uniform films were achieved at low substrate temperatures. An improvement in the degree of preferred orientation in the GaN films deposited on Al2O3(0001) substrates with increasing nozzle temperature was observed., Prepared in cooperation with North Carolina State Univ., Raleigh, Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering.
