A Smart Information and Communication Technology (S-ICT) is an ICT enabling a synchronized interplay of different key factors, aligning infrastructures, consumers, and governmental policymaking needs. In the harbor's logistics context, S-ICT has been driving a multi-year wave of growth. Although there is a standalone value in the technological innovation of a task, what is ultimately important is to measure the overall value of a new S-ICT over a combined coordination of tasks and resources, for a number of representative consumer-driven cases. Not surprisingly, a local improvement could even result in an increased global inefficiency along the entire flow of activities. Hence, the impact of a new smart technology is unknown without quantitative analysis methods on the end-to-end process. In this paper, we propose an approach based on the modeling and simulation of harbor's organizational process in terms of a workflow model. The proposed approach is founded on the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) standard, and it is particularly useful to perform what-if analysis or to support an efficient integration design. In this study, we also show a practical application of the approach through a real-world analysis on a marine container terminal of the Port of Leghorn (Italy).

The presented work aimed at the design, building and preliminary results of a solar cooling plant for air conditioning of a small office located at the CNR ITAE in Messina. The layout chosen for the solar cooling system consists of a solar thermal collectors field connected in parallel with a backup gas boiler, which are connected to a hot water storage that works as a thermal buffer between the heat generation devices and the adsorption chiller. The design of the system was carried out by means of a numerical model implemented in TRNSYS. Starting from the outcomes of the simulations, the plant was installed for the air conditioning of a small office. In order to enhance the adsorption chiller performance high temperature, radiant terminals have been selected and installed into the office. Several sensors have been installed in order to measure the parameters (e.g. temperature, humidity, solar radiation) needed for the evaluation of the performance of the whole system. The preliminary results show that the built up system is able to maintain the indoor comfort conditions even during the hottest Sicilian summer days. Future activity will be devoted to the identification of the main parameters that affect the performance of the plant.

This document reports on the final integrated system at M36, which has been deployed in the testsites. It includes a brief description of the fifteen testsites, covering the particularities and technological issues experienced. The final set of hardware and software components are described, remarking the main improvements with respect to previous versions, while in-deep details are given in the correspondent deliverables from WP2, WP3, and WP4. The final prototype is the last evolution along this three years project and has been iteratively adapted to the users' feedbacks. The last users' impressions gathered by an on-line bug tracker tool during the last year have raised the enhancements integrated in the final prototype and described in this document.

Nel 2007, il settore del trasporto delle merci e delle persone in Italia rappresentava circa il 20% del prodotto interno lordo, e cresceva con un tasso medio annuo del 2,5%. I dati di Confedra pubblicati a Febbraio 2013 e relativi all'andamento del traffico merci del primo semestre 2012 (rispetto al primo semestre 2011), indicano che il traffico merci su strada ha registrato una diminuzione del 4% per i trasporti nazionali e dello 0,5% per i trasporti internazionali; il traffico ferroviario ha subito un calo del 4,8%; il traffico aereo è diminuito del 5,8%; quello via mare ha registrato una diminuzione del 5,1% nella movimentazione di TEU e del 3% per quanto riguarda la movimentazione delle rinfuse ; mentre il trasporto RO-RO registra un lieve aumento dello 0,8%, grazie al ripristino dei traffici commerciali con il Nord Africa. I Corrieri Nazionali registrano un calo del 2%, mentre gli Express Courier hanno aumentato il traffico del 2%. Andamento negativo anche per gli spedizionieri internazionali, con un calo dello 0,2% nel trasporto su strada e ferro, dell'1,2% nel trasporto aereo e del 4% nel trasporto via mare. Secondo Confetra, la differenziazione tra traffico internazionale e traffico nazionale è particolarmente evidente nel settore del Courier, con un andamento in crescita nei traffici internazionali ed un calo di quelli nazionali. Tali rilevazioni confermano i dati Istat sul commercio internazionale italiano, con un calo delle importazioni e un aumento positivo per le esportazioni. L'analisi dell'andamento delle varie modalità a partire dal luglio 2007 evidenzia la caduta del trasporto ferroviario che, dopo un leggero aumento nel primo semestre del 2008, è in costante discesa. Il traffico su strada ha avuto un andamento variabile, con un aumento nel primo semestre del 2008, poi una diminuzione che si è accentuata nel secondo semestre del 2010, una successiva risalita nel 2011 e poi di nuovo una diminuzione nel primo semestre 2012. Il traffico via mare ha segnato una diminuzione nel primo e secondo semestre 2008, per poi riprendere quota, con un aumento nel secondo semestre 2011, seguito da una diminuzione nel primo semestre 2012. Analizzando nello specifico il traffico marittimo nazionale e internazionale, nel trasporto di TEU Genova registra tra gennaio e maggio del 2012, rispetto al 2011, un aumento del 12,8%; Napoli un aumento del 9% e Trieste un aumento del 18,5%. In calo invece Livorno, con una diminuzione del 17,7%; Ravenna, con meno 9,2% e Venezia con una diminuzione dello 0,9%. Nel trasporto RO-RO spicca Napoli, con un aumento del 77,1%, mentre Genova e Livorno diminuiscono del 5,5%, Ravenna del 20%, Trieste del 6% e Venezia del 3,3%. Il Ministero delle Infrastrutture ha pubblicato in G.U. il 26/3/13 un decreto che detta le nuove regole in materia di mezzi per il trasporto delle merci: i veicoli per il trasporto merci, specialmente di quelle pericolose, dovranno essere tracciati in modo telematico, così da poterne rilevare la posizione e il carico. Il nuovo sistema entrerà in vigore entro metà 2014. Ciò rientra nel decreto per lo sviluppo degli ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), sistemi di trasporto intelligenti che consentono di creare piattaforme telematiche in grado di dialogare con UIRNet, la piattaforma logistica nazionale, e permettono lo scambio di dati e informazioni tra operatori. UIRNet è entrata nella fase realizzativa del progetto per lo sviluppo della piattaforma nazionale per la logistica integrata e l'intermodalità. L'iniziativa mira alla messa in rete dei servizi per i settori del trasporto e della logistica. Il sistema punta a un diretto coinvolgimento di tutti gli attori del settore dell' autotrasporto, dei poli logistici integrati e delle associazioni Due gli obiettivi prioritari: miglioramento dell'efficienza dei servizi interportuali e incremento degli standard di sicurezza nell'intero processo della filiera. La premessa da cui si deve partire è che i sistemi logistici e il trasporto delle merci rappresentano fattori chiave di vantaggio competitivo per le imprese. E oggi sono in fase di forte trasformazione dovuta all'innovazione nelle tecnologie per l'informazione e la comunicazione (ICT). Questi sviluppi hanno reso possibile l'affermazione di un nuovo modello di sistemi logistici basato sul concetto di integrazione di sistema. In sostanza con l'applicazione su vasta scala dei sistemi informatici sono stati elaborati nuovi modelli organizzativi, di pianificazione e gestione, integrando le varie fasi del ciclo approvvigionamento-produzione-distribuzione. In questo modo, il trasporto merci è entrato a far parte - come sottosistema - del sistema più ampio della logistica.

Background Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) is associated with an increased mortality. Few studies have constructed predictive models of all-cause mortality with a high discriminating power for patients with this disease that would enable us to determine which patients are more likely to die. Objective To construct a predictive model of all-cause mortality at 5, 10, 15 and 20 years for patients diagnosed with and treated surgically for DTC for use as a mobile application. Design We undertook a retrospective cohort study using data from 1984 to 2013. Setting All patients diagnosed with and treated surgically for DTC at a general university hospital covering a population of around 200,000 inhabitants in Spain. Participants The study involved 201 patients diagnosed with and treated surgically for DTC (174, papillary; 27, follicular). Exposures Age, gender, town, family history, type of surgery, type of cancer, histological subtype, micro-carcinoma, multicentricity, TNM staging system, diagnostic stage, permanent post-operative complications, local and regional tumor persistence, distant metastasis, and radioiodine therapy. Main outcome measure All-cause mortality. Methods A Cox multivariate regression model was constructed to determine which variables at diagnosis were associated with mortality. Using the model a risk table was constructed based on the sum of all points to estimate the likelihood of death. This was then incorporated into a mobile application. Results The mean follow-up was 8.8 +/- 6.7 years. All-cause mortality was 12.9%(95% confidence interval [CI]: 8.3- 17.6%). Predictive variables: older age, local tumor persistence and distant metastasis. The area under the ROC curve was 0.81 (95% CI: 0.72- 0.91, p< 0.001). Conclusion This study provides a practical clinical tool giving a simple and rapid indication (via a mobile application) of which patients with DTC are at risk of dying in 5, 10, 15 or 20 years. Nonetheless, caution should be exercised until validation studies have corroborated our results.

In the last decade, integrated logistics has become an important challenge in the development of wireless communication, identification and sensing technology, due to the growing complexity of logistics processes and the increasing demand for adapting systems to new requirements. The advancement of wireless technology provides a wide range of options for the maritime container terminals. Electronic devices employed in container terminals reduce the manual effort, facilitating timely information flow and enhancing control and quality of service and decision made. In this paper, we examine the technology that can be used to support integration in harbor's logistics. In the literature, most systems have been developed to address specific needs of particular harbors, but a systematic study is missing. The purpose is to provide an overview to the reader about which technology of integrated logistics can be implemented and what remains to be addressed in the future.

This document reports on the final version of the sensor network and the GiraffPlus integrated system.The final version delivered at month 36incorporates the input from the last evaluation phase leading to a refined system.The final version of the middleware infrastructure integrates a more complete set of sensors and functionalities. Indeed, the control bus functionality has been implemented and tested with new sensors and actuators, a new wearable technology capable of continuous heart rate monitoring has been analyzed, and a new web monitoring tool for checking the status of the test sites has been deployed. The final version of the Giraff platform is also described,addressing safety issues and general improvements requests coming from the last evaluation phase.In addition, final considerations on the assessment of security and safety in the GiraffPlus system are also presented as an appendix.

This document reports on the third prototype of the system that is currently deployed in all test sites. The third prototype at month 30 provides the final version of the network system and the second and final version of the Giraff platform. A middleware solution helps to integrate the software components developed by the WP3 and WP4 and enhanced Giraff platform with safer and semi-autonomous mobility features. The prototype includes the Giraff robot, the Look4Myhealth kit, the monitoring sensors from Tunstall, additional environmental sensors, a physiological sensor for pulse oximetry measurements based on Android, the context recognition and configuration planning modules, and the remote storage and repository to collect user data. Additionally a new wearable sensor containing an inertial system is also introduced. It can be carried out by the primary user and used to give additional information regarding the user activities. The final version of the middleware is presented and the semi-autonomy features for the Giraff robot are described.

Regional impact studies of the future climate change effects are necessary because projected changes in meteorological variables differ from one region to another, and different climate systems can react in varied ways to the same changes. In this study, the effects of climate change on bioclimatic deficiency were compared in two cultivation methods (irrigated and rainfed) in a semi-arid region, Ahar (East Azarbaijan, IRAN). The agricultural land uses selected for evaluation were wheat (Triticum aestivum), alfalfa (Medicago sativa), sugar beet (Beta vulgaris), potato (Solanum tuberosum), and maize (Zea mays). In this way, Terraza model included in the land evaluation decision support system, called MicroLEIS DSS, was used. Terraza gives a quantitative prediction of a site bioclimatic deficiency. Soil morphological and analytical data were obtained from 44 sampling points based on a grid survey. Agro-climatic data, referred to temperature and precipitation, were collected from weather stations located in Ahar region, which benefits from more than 20 consecutive years of weather data. A future scenario of climate change was calculated according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on regions of Asia under scenario A1FI (highest future emission) for 2080s. Although, increasing of precipitation being available by climate change in the future scenario, humidity index will be reduced because of high temperature. The results showed that climate change is likely to cause severe water stress in irrigated cultivation of alfalfa, sugar beet, potato, and maize, the use of irrigation methods being essential to maintain agricultural productivity. Although irrigation is indicated as very important in this regime of semi-arid agriculture, cultivation of rainfed wheat can be possible instead of the irrigated one. Also, it is revealed that climate perturbation effects on rainfed conditions are more serious than those on the irrigated conditions in the area., The authors wish to thank Tabriz University for funding this research work, a dissertation of Ph. This paper presents preliminary results of measurements of chemical composition of pigments on the Middle Minoan pottery coming from Festos and Hagia Triada excavations. The measurements were carried out ‘in situ’ with the use of the PIXE-alpha spectrometer, with Po-210 radioisotope as a source of sample excitation, built at Laboratorio Nazionale del Sud. The method of measurements is described in detail and the limits are discussed. The preliminary results confirm the use of the reduced iron technique to obtain the black slips and of the talc to produce the white ones. Similarly, the presence of Manganese in some orange pigments can be associated with the use of red ochre mixed to talc, the latter being used as whitening material.
